I figured something out. I have owned a few male BJDs, but I wind up selling them or passing them along to other collectors.

It's the clothes.

I'm easily bored when it comes to men's clothing. And instead of embracing my (considerable, professional, award-winning) sewing abilities and making more things, I wind up passing the guys along.

I've been struggling to find clothing to put on my new 12" Hint. He's Ken-sized, and I'm kind of 'meh' about the items I have for him to wear.

This won't do!

I am not easily excited about fucking suits. I don't want to find him the perfect tux. I'm so easily bored with shorts and T-shirts.

So I started him out in the really nice competition martial arts gi that I had. Did I get a pic? No.

Then I tried him in something wizardly. Need to find or make him a nice hat for that outfit.

So, help me choose! What costumes should I put together for my poor guy?

@bjdchallenge My first Ball Jointed Doll. This is a vinyl Goodreau "Rumor". I've always loved dolls, but it seemed like BJDs were prohibitively expensive. My mother got a couple of Goodreau dolls from a dealer, and I was combing eBay for accessories to get her a birthday present. I found this lovely girl and a vinyl Goodreau "Secret" being sold by the same seller separately, so I placed an opening bid on both to see which one I could win. I won them both uncontested. So I showed up at my mom's 60th birthday doll tea party with my new girls and knocked her socks off. She was so thrilled that I was getting into the hobby! I named them Trixie and Helen. I still have them both, but Trixie is my "Bridge Doll," as in "Even if I were himelrss and living under a bridge, I'd still keep her with me." Here she is, the mischievious little thing, stealing my drink.

This is a picture of the used 17in. Goodreau I recently purchased . I am currently looking for a head. I am new to this and have no idea what to do. With so many recasts out there I need help to get a proper head. Thank you!

Got a box from @dollsahoy's destash! I've got two candidates for the wheelchair, between the top gal's floppy legs and Barbie's chewed-off foot. Might just have to not photograph them together and they share

The other two got new clothes (and hey, like I said, put a shirt on Ara); someone ought to put those camo pants to use, since Action-Figure-That-Would-Be-Okareks-If-I-Actually-Worked-On-Him isn't using them.

And of course the purple hair pair, though very different with the warm versus cold tones! Ara is no longer the shortest, but hey he can be a short king in my heart 😌

So I recently came across a Goodreau Doll and know nothing about dolls so I’m coming to the doll community on tumblr to see if y’all can help (picture below of doll I found online)

The doll is named “The Magician” and is a limited edition 150 according to the certificate of authenticity that came in the box

He has never been dressed- all of the clothes are still sealed

And he came in the original box

So basically I’m wondering if this doll has any value and if it does how much. I’m also wondering if there’s like a doll appraiser that I should go to if it does have potential value

I’m not attached to the doll in any way so if someone on here wants it feel free to shoot me a dm so we can discuss

Went swimming again tonight. I brought a few friends.

Midori is eager to try out the pineapple pool float.

(For my fellow doll enthusiasts: this is a mini pool float that has a plastic bottom. It's designed to hold a drink or a pool speaker. So, no, my resin kids aren't getting wet in these pics.)

Long post incoming!

So I haven’t been posting any pics of my dolls as displayed because I decided a couple years back to start liquidating my collection so there’s less stuff to manage when I finally can move.

But the BJD generally aren’t on the chopping block, though I have let go of a couple of them that I didn’t really click with (Ji and Bach).

Most of these were bought with my own money, though some were gifts and some were won in drawings.

The majority of my dolls are hybrids.

I do include my vinyl/ABS dolls in the BJD category because of aesthetics.

Goodreau Make it Mine Hailey

Get ready for way too many photos.

I’d been eyeballing this Make it Mine doll on eBay for a while, since I’ve recently taken an interest in plastic bodied dolls at larger scales.

While the Dream Fairy dolls you can find here and there are lovely, turns out they’re recasts.

Make it Mine by Goodreau are 100% legit. I finally caved and bought one.

First impression was “Wow, this doesn’t weigh a thing...”.

eBay seller isn’t the best at packaging.

She came unzipped because the zipper is broken. Great.

There’s something I do not like about this face, and it took me a while to figure it out. It’s her eyes. The irises are too big and not enough white shows, like a dog’s eyes. And she’s wearing lipstick which is odd on a doll that looks like she’s maybe 8 years old.

When I picked her up, ZOOP! Yeah, I’d heard that would happen. There’s nothing holding the wig on.

At first I thought she couldn’t tilt her head up or down, but she can. Sort of. There’s a ball joint in the neck that’s surrounded by a sheath of rubber, making it nearly impossible to move. I’m afraid I’ll snap her neck peg if I try. It’s very stiff. So are her elbows and wrists.

The head holding mechanism is neat. I like it. I also like the eye mechanism, though it’s very limiting, and how easy it is to get the head cap off.

Whomever pulled off her feet to ship her snapped one of her ankles. Since these are long out of production, I don’t think I’ll be able to get a replacement. For now, her ankle is held in with some teflon friction tape. It works ok, but it’s wobbly and she can’t stand on her own.

Now about that eye problem... She has some nice, dark, brown eyes, but the irises are too big for her.

If you put the eye mechanism in upside down, she looks to the side a bit.

14mm eyes fit her head ok, but don’t work with the eye mechanism. I only have one pair of 14mm eyes that have the little posts on the back that the eye mech uses.

Oh... If you carefully wedge something between the eye mech and the little lever that holds it, you get this.

Let’s try upside down...

I am all out of eye putty so can’t try sticking them in properly at the moment. And I worry eye putty is going to dissolve her head.

I’m not used to hard plastic dolls that take eyes and haven’t done any experiments with eye putty or chemicals to remove her lipstick, yet.

I’ll see about making her some new eyes with smaller irises.

One thing I found interesting about her was her skin tone. She’s listed as “peach” but it’s rather yellow. Pretty close to my really, really old resin BJDs in color.

My girl's here! The Angel of Dream Hui Xiang I won on the goodwill site finally got here (it didn't take long at all, actually, but I'm impatient). She came with clothes, but I stripped her to take a look at her condition and clean her up a bit, so dressed photos will have to wait, I think.

(Although here are two of her auction photos, property of Goodwill, not my photos)

I've never had a full resin 1/3 bjd before, so this is pretty exciting! I do have a Mirodoll body (I know now they're kind of a sketchy company, so I'm not sure I would buy from them again, but this headless husk is still waiting for a head at some point), and the pants she came with fit him a bit better than the 28 inch barbie clothes he was wearing.

This isn't the most accurate to color, but my phone tries to color-correct what it thinks is a bad skin tone. Hui Xiang's pretty yellow, but it's not unpleasant, I don't think, and I've already found other clothes that fit her.

I've never had a head with removable teeth before, so I'm loving that, but she was so gritty I really needed to clean her up, and she'll need an updated faceup too. It's exciting!

Unfortunately she came with shoes that flake as badly as my Goodreau shoes, so I really need to do something about that, but for now I like her and I'll have to give her a character!
