Thankful

I was a little sick over the last two days. I feel better now and am listening to music. The music reminds me of the hospital. When I was in the hospital, beautiful gospel music filled the air for a time.

One of the songs was 'Goodness of God' by CeCe Winans. Just as CeCe sings, God has been good to me throughout my life and I should be thankful. I am thankful for feeling better, I am thankful for family and friends, I am thankful for a lot more….

"Touch the Hem of His Garment" re-tells the amazing story of the chronically ill and socially outcast woman who touches the hem of Jesus's garment (His prayer shawl) to be healed (Matthew 9:20-21)--the more you learn about this story the more fascinating it becomes.

"Jesus Gave Me Water" is the story about the Samaritan woman who meets Jesus at Jacob’s Well, a public watering place near Mount Gerizim (a place of spiritual significance). Jesus was en route to Galilee, having just finished a lot of work in “respectable Judaea” and taking a break in “unrespectable Samaria,” home of racial half-breeds looked down upon by Pharisees and Romans. Jesus sat down by the well while the disciples went to buy bread. When a solitary gentile woman came to draw water, he broke at least two social and religious rules when he asked her to give him a drink. TROUBLE THE WATER is a Jazz-based music, movement and spoken word performance literally diving into the social, political, personal and spiritual implications of gospel classics, "Wade in the Water" and "Deep River." Een restje blues en een vleugje Elvis

We zijn in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Binnenkort meer hierover, maar over de dag van vandaag kunnen we nog wel wat melden natuurlijk.

Vanochtend hebben we onze laatste uren in Clarksdale doorgebracht in het Delta Blues Museum. Ook hier viel weer meer te leren over dit muziekgenre, met aandacht voor de grondleggers van de blues, waaronder uiteraard Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters en Howlin' Wolf, maar ook Son House en Charley Patton. We zijn nog steeds niet uitgeleerd, maar het blijft super interessant.

Toen werd het tijd voor de volgende roadtrip naar Muscle Shoals, via Tupelo. In Tupelo werd Elvis Presley geboren, reden voor een museum. En voor een bezoekje natuurlijk. Over Elvis leerden we zes jaar geleden al veel tijdens ons bezoek aan Sun Studios, RCA Studio B en natuurlijk Graceland. In Tupelo leerden we vooral over zijn jeugd en de muzikale inspiratie vanuit de kerk via de gospels. Elvis won in zijn carriere drie GRAMMY's, allemaal voor gospelsongs. Het bezoek aan Tupelo was onmisbaar voor het totaalbeeld van deze rock 'n roll ster!
