Sweden: Patrik Kittel on Touchdown. [Quaterback] i like the look of the Quaterback babies. they’re solid and short backed and are just kinda cool to see in a discipline full of big long horses. james bond music, huh? okay. froth and gape. the thing about doing this by watching replays is i’ve already heard about the blue tongue scandal, so i’m paying extra close attention to Touchdown’s mouth. oh piaffe pirouettes are cool. nice gaits. very quiet feeling test so far - probably helps that the temperature is down into the 60s (17C ≈ 62F). tempi ones are some of my favorites to watch. tight tight frame. saddle looks like it has wither clearance at least. i caught maybe a glimpse of the blue tongue?

Poland: Sandra Sysojeva on Maxima Bella. [Millennium] mare! she’s so pretty. and so young. it’s a little ridiculous to have an 8yo competing in gp dressage (espec olympic gp dressage!). froth and gape. nice gaits and nice open frame. very flashy on the front end, less so behind. the neck on this mare is just astounding. massive flex doing the final centerline with only one hand on the reins. curb rein is abandoned asap. i actually like this mare a lot

France: Pauline Basquin on Sertorius de Rima Z. [Sandro Hit] his tiny little stripe is really fucking cute. some froth, no gape. reasonably open frame. changing the collection of the trot to the tempo changes in the music is brilliant actually. loooooooove the extended canter down the centerline. way to make a statement! lots of pats for the boy on their way back. 

Finland: Emma Kanerva on Greek Air. [I.P.S. Gribaldi] froth. the instrumental versions she put together for their track are pretty fantastic. tight frame at best. gorgeous walk. the way the canterwork is put together is really intricate and finishing it out with the extended canter is clever. very technically fun freestyle, i wish she’d have let him out the tiniest bit more. he gets lots of praise as they leave. 

Austria: Victoria Max-Theurer on Abegglen FH NRW. [Ampere] champing already. froth. frame is too tight, methinks. he’s a big mover - and not pleased about the first piaffe. whatever classical music arrangement this is great; i know i heard some of the Hallelujah chorus in there, and i keep catching Mozart-sounding snippets. (yes i am a bit of a classical music nerd). lovely extended canter. he’s gaping now :( hyperflexed. Lots of praise after the last halt-salute. 

Sweden: Therese Nilshagen on Dante Weltino OLD. [Danone 4] froth. nice open frame as they come in. he’s got such big pretty gaits. gaping now. some of the instrumental stuff sounded like it came from Wicked? oh he was so happy about the canterwork and especially the extended canter! super fun freestyle.

Thanksgiving with The Bad Kids(Plus The Seven)

Jawbone and Sandra Lyn try to have a normal thanksgiving dinner. They forgot, however, what children they are raising plus their friends so that’s not going to happen.

Fabian, Gorgug, Gorthalax, Ragh, and Antiope all watch The Bloodrush Game. Zelda sits next to Gorgug and Antiope but is mainly listening to screamo. She eventually just goes over to hang out with Sam since they are really intense about it. Gilear roots for the other team because Fabian promised him money if they won. Let’s just say some divination was involved and the five of them were pissed while Gilear was just like, “Oh crap , I won”

Penny is telling Riz about her “boyfriend” in the Baroness. Let’s just say he has his hand on his gun and eyeing out any mirrors they past by.

Katja has big sister energy(especially in episode 9) and it’s canonical that Adaine can ride horses. I think you all see where this is going.

Sam spends part of it talking with Fig about Lola and the other half comforting Zelda.

But enough about the fun nice stuff. Time for the chaos!

Tracker and Kristen attempt to do a wishbone. Kristen loses and Tracker teases her about it. Fig then casts prestidigitation and starts to scam everyone who aren’t super good at Arcana checks. Betting 10 gps that she can get the larger part of the bone. She makes a lot of money that day

Aewlyn sits away far away from The Seven and has counterspell ready if anything goes sideways.

Fig and Sam have a singing competition but can’t think of an impartial judge. So they set up the karaoke machine(mid Bloodrush game) and start their battle. Trying to see who can get the higher score. It last a minute before Antiope shoots the box with an arrow and turns the game back on. (She promises to buy a new one)

Adaine and Aewlyn attempt to help make food. Yea, that doesn’t well so Jawbone says they can just relax.

Ayda gets there in the middle of when Fig is saying what’s she’s thankful for..

Sandra Lyn attempts to have everyone take turns at the food. Guest first. Then host. No one listened to that, Gorthalax , Adaine, and Aewlyn(reluctantly) volunteered to be at the back of the line even after Sandra Lyn insisted that this would teach them how to be be good host.

There are a lot of playground insults at this large dinners so, kid’s table. So far Kristen, Fig, Fabian, Ostentia, and Sam are currently banned from the grownups table. Ayda, Zelda, and Tracker will sit with them

Fig and Danielle are trying to get everyone high and doing a somewhat good job at it.

hello hello hello!  and welcome to Season 12 of Supernatural. 

I admit that initially I STRUGGLED WITH SEASON 12.  I LOATHED the British Men of Letters (other than Lady Antonia Bevell; her hot working mom energy can get it); I have...mixed feelings about Mary; overall it was not a stellar season for me the first go-round.  HOWEVER I shall now give it a second chance,  and look for the subtext within the bad (and if my theory tracks, there will be much subtext as...there is much bad).  Maybe I’ll even develop Ketch appreciation.  **ONWARDS ONCE MORE INTO THE BREACH, MY FRIENDS:

When we last left Dean, I neglected to mention that Amara brought his mom back (this is how much I repressed Mary Winchester I guess?)  We cut to Mary, confused, in a nightgown (I get this is part of the character and that’s why she is wearing it sO wE kNOw iTS rEAlLy MaRY WinCHEstEr because of her nightgown and not Sam Smith’s exquisite face, but honestly WHY - LIKE DID SHE WEAR THE DAMN THING IN HEAVEN THE ENTIRE TIME TOO?).

***DEAN DESCRIBING EVERY DAMN DETAIL OF THIS HAS MURDERED ME.  Also, I know John Winchester “told him the story,” but something about this retelling - these are NOT John Winchester’s words (other than maybe “big Marine”).  The emotions, the feelings, the “you talked and he was cute” Dean is describing is Dean’s retelling, the version he created in his mind of this damn meet-cute, this little love story he played over and over in his head, and that makes me feel warm and tingly and also want to ingest sharp knives.

Nothing to see here other than Dean using a reference from this LOVE STORY on Cas.  I HATE it here in super hell.  Next rounds on you, Sam.

Anyway, Mary has caught on:

I paused here just now because I had a tHoUGHt.  This season is all about exploring Dean and Sam in their role as sons (this is discussed at the SDCC panel prior to the season; btw they are all free on Prime and I recommend watching before you start each new season for little “reveals” behind some of the plot lines).  We know Sam has no relationship to Mary really, he was a baby when she died, but Dean was a little boy - with a personality, character traits, identifying characteristics that his mother probably knew like the back of her hand.  That’s why my first run-in with Mary left a bad taste in mouth during this season - LIKE THIS IS YOUR KID, and there is NO inkling or recognition until THIS moment?  In a show that just spent an entire season exploring the “unexplained connection” between Dean and GODS SISTER, there no immediate “OH” from his own mother?!

But then I realized why she only connected at this very moment.  This particular moment - and not the moment where he lists the factual details about her before the story of the night she met John.  That little story with all those cute details - that’s the part of Dean that Mary knew before she died - when that part was ALL of Dean.  Before hunting, before John’s quest for revenge turned him into the person he is today, before he saw himself as a blunt little instrument.  That’s why initially Mary has no recognition that this is her son - because the Dean she knew was sensitive, and kind, and OPEN, and liked love stories, and laughing, and warm hugs and maybe flowers. Because if you think about it WE DONT KNOW THAT DEAN.  We only know Dean AMD. (After Mary’s Death).

So maybe Mary represents Dean Before Mary’s Death, and whatever part of that Dean remains, no matter how deep he has been buried.  The part that connects with people; the part that doesn’t want to be alone.  The part that helped Amara.  The part that loves Cas.  And that’s why Amara brought her back.

Other than noting that this is yet another too oft- repeated Sam, the Victim, Always Gets Tortured scenario, I see no point in recapping these parts.

I already posted this sweet baby reunion in my final Season 11 analysis/recap, but lets see it again at another angle and from Mary’s perspective CAUSE CLEARLY she has...*thoughts*

Poor Cas had no idea he was about to MEET THE PARENT 

It melts my little heart that Dean uses Cas’s full name to introduce him to people.  Especially members of his family who are trying to kill him.

Anyway, then we get a much longed for gem of typical Cas deadpan:

WRITING SAMPLE

The line rang three times before someone picked up. “You’ve reached the Brian Goode tip-line,” a man said, voice crackling through the phone line like crumpled paper. The voice was monotone. Sandy had clearly not been the first person to call this morning. She hitched her shoulder up, using the bony part at the top to press the receiver against her ear so she could take a sip from her coffee mug. A Michigan Nip, of course. 

“Hi, good morning, I’ve been meaning to call you,” she said. One week had passed and Brian Goode was still a ghost. 

Sandy’s eyes were focused on the phone keypad. If she looked hard enough, she’d swear that some of the numbers had been worn down just a bit more than the rest. All those calls, back and forth, twelve years ago. She practically had the department’s number memorized at this point. “It’s just terrible, isn’t it?”

“Yes, but we’re doing the best we can right now, ma’am,” the man said, and Sandy couldn’t contain the snort of laughter that came flying out. She was standing in very spot where she’d learned that her son was alive, and that her husband was dead. She’d never felt that the Devil’s Knot Police Department had done their best at just about anything. “Do you have any information to report?” he asked.

“Oh, yes, certainly. I was just calling to ask about the case, though. Do you have any leads yet?” Sandy asked the question matter-of-factly, and took another sip. After how long it had taken Charlie Taylor to botch everything last time, she figured the department owed her some goddamned information. 

There was a pause. “Ma’am, this is a tip line,” he said. The pitch of his voice rose at the end like he wasn’t sure if he should be asking or telling.

“I know,” Sandy said. “I thought the main line would be busy, and maybe I could get some information from you instead.” She heard shuffling behind her and turned over her shoulder to make eye contact with her son. “Just tell the Sheriff that it’s Sandy, he’ll understand,” she said, eyebrows raised, and shooed Peter away with a quick wave of her hand. The last thing she needed was for him to get re-traumatized, or whatever Dr. Shah had called it. She’d written some psychology buzzwords down a few years ago in case Sandy ever wanted to go to the public library and check a book out. In all likelihood, the piece of paper had gone through the wash in one of her pants pockets and disappeared entirely. 

There was another pause. Longer this time. He gave a sigh that crackled in her ear. “Mrs. Silverman, I – “

“Officer, come on,” Sandy interrupted, “Don’t you know what happened to my family?” Of course he did. Everyone did. 

“Yes, and I’m very sorry, but it’s ongoing investigation. If you have any information that you think could be helpful, please let us know.”

Twelve years later and apparently the department hadn’t gotten any better since Charlie Taylor resigned in disgrace. Sandy tipped the mug back and took a large gulp. The splash of whisky burned in her throat. “Let’s just hope you’re doing a better job this time around.” She looked down at her empty mug. The spiral cord trailed behind her as she took a few steps toward the counter to put it in the sink. “It didn’t take you a week to find my son in ’84. Do your fucking job. Good day,” Sandy said, and hung up.

ANYTHING ELSE?

Sandy grew up in a very traditional family. Her father was a physician, her mother a homemaker. She watched from a young age how the men in her life took up space; how they showed cruelty in the way they spoke loudly, making rules that only they were allowed to break. Irene, Sandy’s mother, taught her how to make herself pretty and small, so boys would like her. Her older brother was the pride of the family; all chiseled jaw and boyish charm, just handsome enough to get away with anything. The pedestal he lived on was so high she could barely see the bottom of it. She was just a girl, raised in chains, her parent’s Little Darling, unobtrusive and accommodating. Never enough, because she was never allowed to be. This disconnect deepened as she grew older – but if her parents wanted her to be a young lady, Sandy would be the best young lady in all of Indiana. She’d perform perfectly.

She was always good at getting people to like her. In high school, all it took was becoming cheer captain and giving out blowjobs after school in the parking lot. She was a good girl. Sloppy Sandy, they called her. It didn’t matter. They all cheered when she became prom queen, anyway. She went on to study sculpture at Moore College of Art and Design, and told the other girls that her family had been the one to give the school its name. Just to see their faces light up. Sculpting gave her permission, for once in her life, to stick her hands in the mud. When her mother referred to sculpture as a fine hobby, Sandy knew it was code for a pit stop on your way to marriage.

Phillip and Sandy met on a blind date. Irene introduced the idea during one of their mother-daughter dates at the beauty parlor. She waited until Sandy’s fingers were in the manicurist’s hands to inform her that Phillip Silverman would be picking her up that evening. Seven o’clock, sharp. Good genes, she said. Handsome. His mother had been crowned Miss Indiana in ‘22, after all. Irene had just been runner-up. Sandy agreed, of course, because she had to.

The following year, they were married. Phillip was a kind man, and everyone loved him, so Sandy did too. The word wife felt funny in her mouth when she said it out loud, so she put on an apron and shopped at Macy’s and picked up pilates. If she shaped herself into Woman incarnate, it made it all better, somehow. When she gave birth at twenty-five, the post-partum depression swallowed her whole. It left the dishes unwashed, diapers unchanged, and to-do list unchecked. She spent more time in bed than her infant daughter did. Phillip learned to bring the baby to their bedroom to breastfeed. More often than not, when she cradled their daughter in her arms, Sandy would start to cry. Bad mother, bad bad bad, she thought. Phillip seemed to think so too. It didn’t take long for the GP to write her a prescription for Valium. It helped. She started drinking more, and that helped too.

As Amanda grew, Sandy drank. Post post-partum depression, maybe. She didn’t have an excuse then; she just gave up. Sandy tried to fashion her daughter into a reflection of herself – dressing her in pink, putting her in cheerleading, teaching her to smile – but the connection felt irreparable. Thankfully, Phillip took over the bulk of the parental duties. He never let her forget it. At least the resentment was mutual; at family dinner, Sandy put her cigarettes out in Phillip’s food to let him know he’d eaten enough. No one was going to be fat in her family. Another child was out of the question, but sometimes, when Sandy was drunk, she forgot to take her birth control. The post-partum depression knocked her on her feet so badly the second time around that she got her tubes tied. After the procedure, she drove down to the beauty parlor for a manicure.

Sandy remembers very little of the two days her husband and son were missing. The panic was paralyzing. She was drunk when she got the call that Peter had been found; she drove to the hospital and took out two bushes in the parking lot with Mandy in the passenger seat. Her boy was alive! Later, when they found Phillip, grief was quickly washed out by rage. Why had he done this to them – to her? Everyone who’d called her the bad parent could kiss her well-toned ass. And they did. For a while, at least, when the frenzy was still about the poor Silverman family. A small part of her liked the attention. Finally, someone in Devil’s Knot gave a shit about Sandy Silverman when she was sober.

The rumors were relentless. Soon enough, the town was going to swallow itself whole. One morning, their dog Bonnie turned up dead in the front yard, blood pooling on the overgrown grass. Sandy got in the car in her silk pajamas, went down to the police department, and told Charlie Taylor just how badly he was fucking the whole thing sideways. Three months was too long. Emotional Vulnerability

Few months back I covered the topic about emotions: I spoke about what emotions were and how to deal with them. But this is somewhat superficial compared to understanding the origination of those feelings. Last week I’ve encountered a topic that’s been on my mind  ever since, and thought covering another able would you ‘dissect’ why you feel/think the way you do. Doing this will definitely help you to consider how to deal with them.

Only we can know how we’re feeling, but having a clear understanding of what they are, why they’re there or even where it came from, can really empower your ability to take ahold of them. I also think being able to see the connection between your thoughts and emotions is crucial.

Often we would have a thought and a feeling would come as a result. In other occasions the feeling itself could initiate the though. These would be either primary and secondary emotions that you can experience. Primary emotions are the main feelings you experience and secondary emotions are what comes after. For example, say you missed one lecture and haven’t caught up by the next lecture. So, you make the decision to miss the next lecture because you may be anxious over the fact that you haven’t caught up. And then you fall into a vicious cycle. In this scenario, the anxiety is the primary emotion, whereas the secondary emotion could be ‘stress’.

One of the was in which you can specifically identify and name what you’re feeling is to say, out loud, and see if that matches. The link below is to a site that lists some emotions that you could take a look at.

Once you’ve identified the feeling, you’re in a better position to challenge the thought/feeling. For example, say the thought in your mind was “Oh I cant do xyz work because I’m not smart” and the feeling following this could be embarrassment, anxiety etc. To challenge this, you would say “I can do xyz work because I worked hard to get where I am”.you don’t necessarily have to justify it, but you need to believe it. It’s just like saying positive affirmations. it may be hard to do this when you’re down, but when you’re in a better frame of mind, have a go and get into the habit of doing it. It will be better.

Future Plot: Voyage of the Shinkirō - Chapter 3

Sandra took a taxi to a point that lays at the mouth of Apra Harbor, on the end of Orote Peninsula, opposite the Glass Breakwater of Cabras Island which forms the northern coast of the harbor.

This is Point Udall; it was one called the Orote Point but renamed to honor a human named Mo. This human came from a land called The Grand Canyon State which is in the United States.

Sandra picked this spot as a place for clear her mind, and to avoid what Nebula mentioned about talking with Agent 7 and Circe. She didn't have the heart to talk to them since she just ran away. Despite them not being her biological parents, she fears that Agent 7 and Circe would disapprove of her actions.  

Point Udall, Guam - 10:30 PM

Right now, she is sitting at the edge of the point's cliff, letting the sea breeze touch her skin.

The cold breeze with the summer feel reminded Sandra of home, and she can imagine a few drums beating. She can still feel like she wore the traditional Seychelles dancer attire. She then started to sing.

Sandra hopes that one day her reunited family would come back to those islands. She can smell a unique coconut-based cake her mother would always make. She can recall it being coated in chocolate and stuffed with coconut and macadamia nuts. It was the perfect family recipe, but it she can only remember half of how it was made.

She stopped singing when the music in her head faded. She sighed deeply, curled up, and hides her head between her legs.

Meanwhile, Camille and Nebula had to call Agent 7 and Circe for Sandra. They tried video chatting, using a laptop that Sandra has in her shoulder bag. On the video chat, he can be seen wearing a v-neck t-shirt and shorts. Circe was next to him, wearing a sweater and sweat shorts. The two were sitting together on a bed.

"I think Sandy doesn't want to talk with you or Aunt Circe, Uncle Sev," Camille stated.

"But go easy on her, Uncle Sev," Nebula added, "She really wanted to go and find her family."

"And she thinks they're in the United States?" Circe asked.

"She's sure of it." Nebula nods.

Agent 7 sighed and shook his head. Circe draws the camera attention to her.

"Girls, keep an eye on Sandra, please?" Circe looked serious. "I feared Sandra would do something like this, and it seems Jason and I aren't able to prevent that from happening." She then looked down. "And I guess you guys did your best as well."

Soon Vix entered the camera view.

"Who's this?" Vix asked.

"Not meaning to change the subject, but that kid is there too?" Agent 7 has been aware of Vix's wanderings.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's kind of under control, Uncle Sev," Camille explained.

"Anyway, just go easy on Sandra, please," Nebula requested, "Agent 7, you did confess that you have poor parenting skills."

"Ugh!" Agent 7 looks down. "Sadly, no. That's why I'm a bad father to Kitzeh and Telemachus, they're from two different mothers..."

Circe pats his back. "There there..." She looked at Camille and Nebula. "Alright... But Jason and I still want Sandra back."

"We'll keep in mind about that, anyway, we'll talk to you guys later," Nebula concluded.

"Alright, see ya." Circe ends the video chat.

Sandra came back to the hotel suite an hour later after heading into town to withdraw some money from an ATM for her friends and herself.

"Well, look who's back." Beaker Jr. welcomed.

Beaker, Camille, and Nebula were playing a board game they found under a bed. Vix also participated while practicing his echolocation, and he was the only player managing to win.

"Is that Monopoly?" Sandra asked.

"Yeah, Vix found it under a bed while practicing his echolocation," Camille explained.

Sandra raised an eyebrow. "That game was meant to teach kids the evils of capitalism. But some human company called Hasbro decided to change the meaning of the game to make it more fun."

"Nerd!" Beaker Jr joked.

"Oh, ha-ha-ha..." Sandra sits with her friends. "Mind if I join the next round?"

"Sure." Camille was rolling the dice.

Sandra and her friends spend the rest of the day exploring natural landmarks, military bases, villages, and beaches. The coral reefs were also another place they visited, but they since they aren't biologically capable to scuba dive, they had a cruise that provided windows to see the underwater.

The next day, Sandra woke up early to prepare the Shinkiro for another departure. The Coast Guard officials were kind enough to help her refill her supply storage for another trip.

Camille, Nebula, and Beaker Jr spent the whole morning searching for Vix. They got word from a tourist manager that they saw him in the northeast in the Puntan Dos Amantes, The Two Lovers Point; A Coast Guard officer said they saw Vix in The Leo Palace Resort; And a mailman note that he saw Vix at the Guam National Wildlife Refuge.

Sandra is notified by this and gave her friends some time to look for Vix all around Guam.

The three decided to split up to search. Nebula was offered a helicopter ride by the coast guard to get to the resort, Beaker Jr. took a jeep to the wildlife refuge, and Camille took a taxi to the Two Lovers Point. They all had their phones charged up so that they can be able to talk with each other.

Puntan Dos Amantes (Two Lovers Point), Guam - 8:05 AM

When Camille arrived at the point, she didn't bother to ask other tourists if they saw Vix. Besides, there weren't that many tourists visiting at this time. She looked everywhere from the two restaurants nearby to the several attractions, and still, none of the employees or the few tourist there saw Vix.

She then stopped at the lookout point, and Camille saw a beautiful view of the coast. The highest point had a plaque telling a story about the Two Lovers Point. She was the only one there along with a young inkling boy.

"Nice view isn't it?" The inkling asked.

"Huh?" Camille looked at him. "Oh...uh... yeah, I guess."

This inkling boy had fair skin, opal-colored ink hair with a red spot on the back of his head, and a familiar yellow eye. He wore a gray button shirt with short sleeves, brown camo cargo shorts with a belt, leather slip-on shoes, brass bracelets, and a blue eyepatch.

"You know, this place has a rich story," the inkling stated.

Camille looked at him.She doesn't know why this stranger is having a conversation with her, but she just let him talk with her.

"You don't say?" Camille raised an eyebrow.

The inkling boy sighs and tells her the story: "Centuries ago, there was once a beautiful woman. She was the daughter of a wealthy aristocrat father and a mother who's the daughter of a native chief. One day, the father arranged his daughter a marriage with a captain, but she refused, so she ran away. She found this secluded and peaceful moonlit shore where she fell in love with a warrior of a modest family."

Camille didn't care about that story, she needed to find Vix, but the voice made her stay. The boy's voice reminded her of someone.

The inkling boy continued the story:

"When the father found out about his daughter love towards the warrior, he tried to force her to marry the captain immediately. Again, she ran away to meet with the warrior on a high cliff along the same shore. The father, the captain, and some soldiers pursued them at the cliff. And once trapped, the lovers tied their hair into a single knot, looked deeply into each other's eyes, and kissed for the last time before taking their own lives. As they leaped over the cliff and into the waters below, and they became symbols of true love to the native here. That is why this place is called Puntan Dos Amantes which means Two Lovers Point."

"What a story," Camille commented. She got lost in the story.

The inkling boy then looked at her. "I'm sorry, were in the middle of something?"

"Huh? Oh yeah! Have you seen a kid?" Camille asked. "He looks like a mix between an octoling and an inkling, has yellowish green ink, he appears blind?"

"Huh... To be honest... I just got here, I don't know who you're talking about." The inkling boy looks down and shakes his head.

"Well, thanks, I guess." Camille walks off.

The Inkling boy continues watching the view of the ocean. He smiled.

Apra Harbor, Guam - 8:50 PM

Sandra finally called Nebula, Camille, and Beaker Jr back to the docks of Apra Harbor. She found Vix in the crow's nest. Nebula and Beaker Jr. got themselves bags of souvenirs on the way back to the docks, but Camille didn't even think about getting one.

"So all this time Vix was in the Shinkiro?" Camille looked annoyed.

"All this time you didn't even bother to get something for your family?" Sandra replied.

"Ohhh... burn....." Beaker Jr commented.

Camille rolls her eyes.

Sandra checks the time. "We're going to depart at 1:30 PM, you've got about 4 hours and 40 minutes to buy something for your family once this is all over."

Camille thought about it and sighed. "Fine... Vix, come with me."

"Can I get something for my family too?" Vix asked.

"Sure thing, Vixy." Camille patted his head as she brings him along. "I hope your echolocation is getting better."

"It's kind of improving," Vix replied.

Sandra sighs and leans back against one of the masts of the ship. She was exhausted with the work she had to do; she has yet to teach her friends more thing about being a sailor and such. She even calculated a chance the trip would be longer to the next destination.

"What's our next destination? Beaker Jr. asked.

Sandra looked at him and she fixes her hair and took a deep breath. She then showed the coordinates on her GPS: (-0.955766 -174.759521).

"I've been told stories of an island hidden in this specific location. They say a famous hunter and his granddaughter lived on the island, both were humans," Sandra explained, "When the grandfather died, the human girl lived all by herself with only her canine companion. And that was only centuries ago, so I want to figure out what have become of the human girl."

"Did she have a name?" Nebula wondered.

"No, but there were old documents saying she's a US citizen, related to a boy in another land in the United States called The Evergreen State, and the rest is unknown."  Sandra adjusted her glasses. "In fact, she's nothing but an enigma."

The Coast Guards were also kind enough to donate a cooler box for Sandra with some beverages, fruits, and desserts as gifts for her and the Neo Squid Sisters. Sandra opened it up and took out two sealed cups of a parfait.

"Here, one of the Coast Guard officers, wanted you and Camille to have this." She tosses one of them carefully to Nebula. She puts the other one away. "I'll save this one for Camille."

Nebula manages to catch it without spilling the parfait. "That's really nice of them."

"You said we still have time right?" Beaker Jr stretches his arms a bit. "I'm going to follow Camille to help Vix out with picking out some souvenirs." He turns into a squid and super jumps to catch up with them.

Nebula and Sandra were the only ones on the Shinkiro now.

"So I've been thinking about this idea while we were sailing to Guam." Sandra gets up, fixes her hair, and adjusts her glasses. "Do you think you guys can handle it?"

"I guess we can handle your idea, but for Camille..... we'll see, so what is it?" Nebula is in on the idea.

"I was thinking we should dress up in sailor attire. You know, like a pirate theme!" Sandra walks over to her quarters and comes back with a naval military coat.

"I don't know, Camille isn't comfortable with wearing outfits like this unless I convince her." Nebula thought about it. "Then again, you're our friend."

"Great! We'll just call the others to meet with us at a boutique and we can get ourselves some navy attires!" Sandra leaves the Shinkiro and takes out her phone. Nebula follows.

Four hours later, Sandra and her friends were back on the ship, wearing their navy outfits. The clothes they were wearing before were kept in backpacks offered by Guam's Coast Guard.

Camille is now wearing a light green blouse with large black harem pants and brown slip-on shoes. She had a pink racer scarf around her neck, the same one Callie gave her for good luck. In addition, she's given a watch and a pair of green glovelettes.

Nebula wore a magenta long-sleeves shirt with a gold collar, gold belt, a dark violet trouser, and pink slip-on shoes. In addition, she's given golden hoop earrings and black glovelettes.

Beaker Jr's navy attire consisted of a navy blue sleeveless vest with cyan linings and belt, blue jeans, black boots, and navy blue arm-guards.

Vix wore a blue sailor suit from the Forge brand with his black shorts and shoes with green linings and black bracelet.

All four of them, however, were given a signature coat: Camille's is light green, Nebula's is fuchsia, Beaker Jr's is blue, and Vix's is olive green. Sandra recommended they just wearing whenever they have to deal with enemies or with storms.

Sandra wore a rosy brown coat with silver ornaments, beige trousers and skirt, white gloves, and a brown tricorn cap and boots. The last thing that Guam's Coast Guard gave to her before she departs is a black belt with scabbard and holster along with a cutlass and a spattershot.

As the Shinkiro departs, Sandra sails it around Guam and directs it southeast. She lets Beaker Jr take the wheel while she makes her way to the hull of the ship.

"Alright, next stop, the unknown island! Just 2,941.44 miles--" Sandra points her cutlass towards the horizon. "-- That way!"

So its me, QuilLynn, Two-time winner, next first boot of atomic! I'm happy to be with Dana, but idk about the rest of tribe. I'm trying to be my catty self and form a pretty girls alliance with Dana and Sarah since we are all Iconic woman winners, but I know Sarah will be more loyal to dan, or I think it at least. I love creative writing, if we lose this because of my writing I might as well give up writing altogether.

THERES 3!! i cant deal im super excited that tim and heather are in the same game as me because they're great people Stephens also here which is awkward a little but i dont really feel like theres any bad blood between us, we've basically made up since IOS . ALSO IM ON A TRIBE BUILT MOSTLY FROM WINNERS. I really wanted to have some winners on my tribe that way i could have hopefully a built in alliance but all winners except one is on my tribe thats so much pressure. And unlike most games ive had a small convo with just about everyone on my tribe/ know them or i like them. this game is definitely going to be different experience and hopefully it will be a long and fulfilling im really looking forward to this season.

my game plan for right now is to get on the good side of all the people that haven't won a game yet and get the other winners out. target #1 QuilLynn SHE HAS WON TWICE. did they let sandra make it to merge?? NO do i want to go far with her in this game? NO is she probably a great person? MAYBE but i dont want to take chances and im gonna be pretty limited at the begging of this game so hopefully the will let me survive long enough to establish myself apart of this game.

"So I like a lot of my tribemates which is cool because if I didn’t I would have quit night one and thrown all the rice in the fire. There’s a ton of Lago representation, which I’m not surprised about, but am v concerned about. It’s like when you were in like 7th grade and you had those friends you talked to every day and then summer came and y’all didnt talk for a while and you come back for 8th grade and things are chill and you catch up, but they still know you’re better than them in every way.

This first challenge is....a choice. I love Cameron with all of my heart normally, but this makes me only love him with my right atrium, so there’s that. I havent taken an English class since 12th grade so y’all know I’m basiclally illiterate now.

I’m just hoping for a cute little jury placement and play a more UTR Sammy-esque game this time around. I know that eventually the wheels will fall off of that plan and I’ll go into full on neurotic, here, queer, and not going anywheer mode where I win like 6 consecutive immunities, but for the mean time I’m goung to try to be diverse, and show I’m not a one trick homosexual. "this is going to sound completely under believable but it’s all true and happened day while I was in the the Acadia Mountains on a afternoon hike. So I was walking having a very nice time enjoying a new trail I’d never taken before. It was longer than most and seemed to never end, I almost thought I was going around in circles. When I was finally about to give up my gps went off saying I was near a geocache! So like any normal person I went to go it. When i found the capsule it began to glow. Strongly and brightly it started to shine. I’d never seen a geocache this big so I decided I was going to take it the I noticed something weird on it it had names next to dates on it. QuilLynn- 1902 Samuel- 1913 Dana- 1940 Sammy- 1953 Dan- 1969 Sarah- 1982 Stephen- 1986 Heather- 2000 Duncan- 2012 Aundra- 2018

I had no idea what this list meant or who these people were, I’d so find out. I started my way back to my car but never made it back that day. Once I began to try and leave the geocache started heating up. It became so I dropped it. I would’ve ran off then and there but I started hearing a voice. “Give me what I want and I’ll give you what you want!” Said the dark and gargled voice. “What do you want?” I said quickly to scared to think of anything else to say. “Your soul!” Whisper little voices so close to my ear I could feel there lips nibbling on my earlobes. Wow first confessional after immunity, we stan a mess. So before anyone can get situated we get our challenge thrown at us and of course it is something I am actually terrible at: WRITING. Hun I cant write for shit. But I came up with a great idea that I thought would really sell the judges being the 7 deadly sins. However there are 10 people so 3 would be the ones who find the geocache and use the items in it to fend off the other 7 who are possessed by the sins. Everyone was like super excited for it, but Sarah didn't use it in the writing, which is upsetting since I really wanted to be sloth and be fended off with like Nyquil or something, but aye that's how shit is. Now I guess its time to get these bitches on my side and find out who to get rid of.

so we lost. Obviously i'm not thrilled about it but I'm not filled with rage or anything like that. If i go home first I'll be a little surprised but I don't think thats going to happen. What I'm kind of hoping to form is a foursome of me dan heather and sammy. I think that would be a very strong group at least for now. As for the longevity of the group? I don't know. I just know I told dan and sammy individually that i want to work with them and heather is someone who dan trusts. Sammy and Dan played lago together so hopefully they'll be on good terms. This way Dan can kind of be seen as the leader of the group and if anyone tries to take a shot at the grouping later down the road it will be his head on the line and not mine. As for who goes home at tribal? I don't think people will vote for Quil or Dana as not to stir the pot. We can't vote out Sarah. It would be mcfucked if we did that to her. So that leaves Stephen, Aundra and Samuel. Obviously I would like to keep Stephen around because he can be an asset to me moving forward. As for Aundra and Samuel?  think Aundra is a little enigmatic but i like him. I also like Samuel, he was the last person to add me but we've been talking the most out of all people that are brand new to me. Speaking of being brand new. I was aligned with him before them and I explained it was a one week kinda thing for me personally to make sure a winner didn’t go home first. ahh okay so I’m super tired and like I’m flying to California and I have been up for over 24 hours...ANYWAY I did what I could in the scavenger hunt and I think some people didn’t really try. I’m just in so many games but like the problem is I forget I apply for them and I’m like uh oh. I think aundra is going home tonight but at the same time it could be me because I haven’t talked to anyone. I’m trying to find a good balance between the way I played in Alcatraz and the way i played in Lago and hopefully make it far!!

Okay so a lot of shit happened. Firstly Samuel got med evacd from the game this canceling tribal council. Like that’s crazy, I really liked him and wanted to work with him but his dog passed so he might be in a funk and I just hope he’s not depressed and he’s doing okay at this point. Now at the same time this could’ve been a blessing or a curse. If everyone was lying to me and I was going out the door then this was a blessing and I’ve been given a second life. Umm so we tribe swapped and MY TRIBE SUCCS EGGS!! it’s me and Sarah with jay, ruthie, trixie, and Madison. Ironically despite how inactive our tribe is we have the most members at this point in time. Julia got med evacd after the reward challenge and after the last immunity challenge, which we did not even attempt to complete, we learned the other tribe had forfeited the challenge and decided to have their tribal that night. We’re blessed as fuck to be ahead of the game right now but luck can’t last forever. We have had three days to do this movie trailer challenge but no one is ever on. "So... is no one trying at these challenges? I'm really shocked that I'm actually dominating every single one of these. I normally do well in challenges, but I've performed better than i ever have before. Its definitely because i'm worried about my place on this tribe. Being that we havent gone to tribal yet, there aren't solidified alliances. I've also had no one start a conversation with me. The conversations I've started with people have never lead to any sort of alliance building either. It makes me believe that I could try to be blindsided because I'm the strongest in challenges and that the merge is on the horizon. I wouldn't put it past these people honestly. I know I have luke in my corner, but stoner is a huge wildcard to me, especially since he's both saved me and burned me in the past. We had a weird relationship in Alcatraz, and it makes me hesitant to trust him in this game.

God this round was kind of a hot mess for me. So my main concern going into the merge is not being a target. I knew coming into the merge people would see me as a threat based on my performance in challenges. So my first order of business was to throw the immunity challenge since I would still be among other challenge threats (luke and dan) if I don’t win. Next, I made sure I was still good with my alliance of quil, Dana, and Tim. Unfortunately, I don’t think it’s best for me to continue with that alliance. So I went ahead and made a side alliance with Duncan. I view him as a HUGE threat to win, but i feel better going to the end with him knowing I can beat him in immunity challenges. My old alliance is full of wildcards. So at this point, I’m pretty much aligned with everyone, which is both terrifying and exciting. I have been on tribes with Sammy and heather for the past few rounds. Luke and I are super close. I have a new alliance with Duncan that was formed to redeem ourselves from Alcatraz. Dan and Madison are allies of Luke and Duncan respectively, so I need to work on my social connection with them bc jury management. I’m starting to see a path to the finals, but more on that next round. I need to go run errands!!

Like yes I had been working with her, yes she was a big threat, but yes I would have gladly voted her ass out. She would have easily won if she got to the end just bc she’s a 2 time winner.

I did message Heather and Luke and said I would have gone along with the plan if I had known about it so hopefully they believe me bc that’s the honest truth. I really need to do some damage control with Sammy as well. The only reason I voted him was because no one gave me another alternative. I’m definitely not gonna win this game ugh. But again I’m happy that I made at least top 6 in an all stars game coming in as a winner. "

"Oh hey it’s me, Lago Dan, here to make an immunity run bc like I feel like I would have been next. I wouldn’t be surprised at all of Dana/Trixie/Luke team up against me and Sammy but also I really want to hope that Luke and Dana will go with the winners to the end mentality. I just realistically don’t see a winner winning if it’s not 3 winners at the end. The jury is fucking bitter bc it’s an all stars season and their entitled asses are just gonna have to get over it.

Realistically I don’t see me having many big moves on my resume besides the Heather vote last round. I think Heather needed to go because she really called the shots at the live Tribal with her vote and she’s someone that is likebale to the jury. This game I tried to get all the lago people out because none of them want me at the end again. The next to go in theory is sammy but I think I might try to give Trixie the boot tbh. Sammy is someone who could win final immunity, but let’s be real the kid lives at camp rn or some shit so maybe he won’t even show up again.

I really wanted to try to have a game with a bit more complexity than my first game but I think I ended up playing pretty similarly. This time I tried to hold off before winning comps and now look at me I’m slaying. But socially I think I faultered a few times in this game and I’m ready to face that bitter af jury"

This could very well be my last night in the game and it's super bittersweet. I hate that it's coming down to this fricken comp. I can't figure some things out because some things never got posted on the blog.... *EYES CAMERON AND OLIVIA FROM ACROSS THE ROOM* but anywho, Dana isn't giving me a straight answer about what's going on with everything and I just wanna die. Like Sammy told me he didn't do the comp, which is cool and will self vote to force the tie and then throw fire making, so like now that this confessional has taken a turn for the better I think I'm good (: hehehehehehheehhehehehee. I love being a two time winner (hopefully)

well, for a shitty week, today was pretty damn good, even though I feel guilty for somewhat blowing off my bar prep (but I did get some of it done tonight so it’s not a total loss). I woke up at 8, earlier than my normal church wake up because I was gonna do the whole shower thing, which ended up taking me less time than I expected so I was like sitting at my kitchen table trying to kill time, and then continually getting frustrated because the bus only comes at 9:00 and 9:20 and I need it at like 9:10 to work properly, but I always end up getting on the 9:00 bus because I hate being late and then I’m just like awkwardly early, and I end up getting pulled into the 10:30 huddle when I’m not serving till the 12:30, but oh well. So all of that happened, and then I went up to the service. I’d been gone the last two weeks and I really miss my church when I’m gone so I was glad to be back, and during worship they played the song they played when it was my first time there that I really like so that made me happy. The sermon was mostly about spiritual gifts (which sounds like a super churchy thing but it’s legit just like the logistics of what you’re good at doing) and exploring that, they even made an online quiz they gave as “homework” where you can answer questions and it’ll tell you what you’re best suited for, or something like that anyway (I don’t think it’s meant to be taken 100% seriously). I pretty much know where I’m at in that regard being that I’m with the babies legit every Sunday, sometimes I don’t even make it to the service but I’ll still be with the babies 😂 but yeah, service was good and then I was with the babies, and boy was it a “when it rains, it pours” day. Most of the time we have super calm services, but every so often we’ll just get a shitton of babies and half of them will be screaming and everything’s on fire, it’s either one or the other, no in betweens lol. there were a LOT of babies so I’m not going to list them all, but I’ll talk about the few I mainly interacted with. This one girl, she’s gotta be like 18 months by now and we’ve had her since she was like 5 months but she just recently started crying when her parents leave (I hate when they regress like that) and she had been in the babies room for the last service, and her mom had come to pick her up, but then she ended up having a meeting so she gave her daughter back to us just for a little while while she was in her meeting. Well, this little girl was not having it. I felt bad because I knew she was probably confused, but she was crying a lot, she would get distracted and stop for a while then start again out of nowhere, so that was a little trying, but thankfully her mom was back before long. We then got an endless stream of babies coming in like, halfway through the service which never makes sense to me but always happens lol, at one point this mom came in with her son and she was just like “would it be okay if I just came in there with him for a little bit?” and I was like YES PLEASE, PLEASE DO because we did not need another unoccupied baby running around lol. For a while I did play with this little girl who was the cutest little thing, I know I say that a lot but seriously, this baby was so. cute. she had these bright blue eyes and the top of her ears stuck out just a little bit and she had this little smile and like....I just melted looking at her because she was so damn cute. She was like 7 months and her parents said she couldn’t quite crawl yet but was getting there, so we sat her on the floor and let her move as she wanted, a few times I’d hold her up so it was like she’s standing and she like, hasn’t fully grasped the concept yet because she keeps most of her feet off the ground and is just on her tip toes, which is also very cute, and she got really happy when I did that and she’d like, try to grab on to me to hold herself up but just ended up like, touching my face awkwardly but it was too damn cute. Okay, I think I ranted sufficiently about how much I wanted to kidnap this perfect little angel (but of course, I restrained myself). There was another little girl I held for a bit who was crying before giving her over to one of the other ladies who was holding her last week and they kinda bonded which does happen haha and she basically just held her the rest of the time. It was a lot of on and off crying, but by the end of the service it was fairly calm so that’s good enough for me lol. I had been texting Jess making plans to get food once I got out of church, and I suggested we go to the cheesecake factory because she loves that place, but the only one I knew of was downtown and you can’t drive downtown because there’s no place to park and it was way too hot to get there by any way other than driving, but she knew of one up in Evanston that was like 30 minutes from us since we’re pretty far north, so I ubered back to her place after church because I’m impatient, and got in the car, stopped at mcdonalds for ice cream cones because it’s never a bad time for ice cream, and from there we drove up to where it was in a mall complex. We had also been planning on seeing Oceans 8 at some point (we were gonna do it last weekend but ended up being too wiped out from our other activities) and there was a movie theatre in the mall complex, so we resolved to get food, look at some stores, and then go to the movies. We got seated right away at the cheesecake factory which I was kinda surprised at because I thought it would be busy with post-church traffic but I guess it was late enough at that point (it was like 3) that most of that crowd had passed through. Our food came out like wicked fast, it was actually there before we even got our bread, which I was very slightly sad about because I like their bread lol. I got the same pasta I always get but it was the lunch portion so I actually finished it for like, the first time I think lol. We were pretty full after that so we opted for no cheesecake (and I mean, we’d already had ice cream) so we paid and then went to wander the stores. Forever 21 was right there and they were having like, a super sale, so we wandered around there a while. I used to get like, most of my wardrobe from there, but more recently I guess I kinda outgrew their stuff and I don’t really own much from them anymore, guess that happens. From there we went into Garage quickly because like, about half of their clothing is actually wearable and cute but the other half is total garbage lol, and then we went into Charlotte Russe for a while. From there we decided to move the car around to the other side of the mall where the movie theatre was, so we did that and then went to assess the movie theatre situation, and dude, this was like a super fucking fancy movie theatre. Like I’ve been to nice ones before, but this was soooo over the top. It had like, waiter service for all these fancy things, and they’ll bring you blankets if you want (they were polyester of course, but I forgive them) and like, their menu was insane, it had like filet mignon for $39 like....who is actually so fucking extra that they would order a fucking steak at the movie theatre (I actually know the answer to that because the answer is my father, but still) so we got popcorn and Jess got a shake and I got a coke because I was still full from lunch. So we chilled there for a while until the movie started. Like all of my internet friends have been raving about this movie for weeks now, so I had pretty high expectations, and they did not disappoint. I’ve seen all 3 of the original Ocean movies and enjoyed them all, so if they were going in that direction I knew I’d like it. And oh, it was so genius, I loved it. Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett were fucking great together, and I have to agree with much of the speculation I’ve seen, they’re totally in love lol. I also really loved Anne Hathaway, she was great through the entire thing, but when she shows up (maybe spoiler?) at the end she just became such a boss and I loved every minute of it. At the last scene, right up until the screen was black, I fully expected George Clooney to walk up any moment because I mean, is anybody really dead if we didn’t see them killed on camera?? lol, but it’s good they at least left the door open for it. So yeah, I really liked it. When we got out most everything else was closed since it was getting late on a Sunday, so we headed back home and had some GPS adventures, but eventually made it home. Throughout the day we had also discussed going to New York next week because I have doctors appointments and shit and Jess legit wasn’t doing anything so I was like well you should just come with me and she was like okay cool so I got home and booked that flight, we’ll leave next Sunday and come back that Friday, should be a nice little break. We plan on making the most of our time in NY, so I already obtained tickets to see a matinee of Hello, Dolly! (only because of Victor Garber, I don��t really care about anything else in that show, at all) and then tickets to see Mean Girls that night because I’m rapidly becoming obsessed with this show and I need to see it in person. Once I got all of that done I turned back to the simulated bar thing I was supposed to be doing and got through 50 out of the 100 questions I had left to do, so not too bad. The site did save all the answers I put in before my computer got fried, so that was good, I could’ve just re-entered them if needed because I marked them on the pages, but it was helpful that I didn’t have to. And yeah, after that I did normal computer stuff and beta’d some fic for a bit until I decided to get ready for bed and now I’m here. Tomorrow I gotta get those questions finished, and then I have a “live webinar” with a bunch of bar students going over the answers and such, so that should be.....interesting (not sure I can think of another word to probably describe it really). We’ll see. Well, it’s past 1:30 am, which means it’s time for me to go to sleep, even if my apartment is still hot as fuck which makes it super annoying to do anything, but I am still gonna need sleep at some point, so I might as well do it now. The steroid adventures– September 2015

** PLEASE NOTE: All the adventures are pretty universal, but it is SO unlikely that you will react to coming off the steroids the way I did. My GP was surprised. Please don’t let this scare you **

I was immediately put on steroids because generally this is the first port of call for brain tumours. It’s an attempt to slow down the growth, and stop it getting any worse once they’ve caught it. Mine was a slow-growing one, so it may not have been entirely necessary for me to take them, but I totally understand why they prescribed them to me.

But oh god, the steroids. These were the worst bit of the whole pre-surgery ordeal. Ok, it actually wasn’t actually that much of an ordeal because I’m an idiot and just breezed through it thinking everything was a-ok. That turned out to be a good attitude to have.

Adventures:

I got fat (see below). My face filled with water, and I looked like a) Jigglypuff, or b) a lady called Sandra with a bubbly personality who’s been doing Slimming World for five years and not lost any weight. 

Food was torturously delicious and I just never got full. Probably another reason I got fat. I ate curry every day, and became addicted to pork scratchings, and double stuff Oreos. It was truly horrific to behold. I put on almost 2 stone all in all.

I never got bored. I was incapable of experiencing boredom. I could sit and stare at a wall for hours and just…not feel bored.

One night I was hallucinating the poster from that terrible Tom Hardy film Legend (Want to see Tom Hardy really ACTING? Watch that.). 

I recognised everyone. Absolutely everyone. That was odd, because you associate recognising people with having seen them before. Turns out your brain can just make that happen.

I couldn’t sleep. Steroids are like having 40 cans of Red Bull right before you go to bed.

When the dose is lowering, you experience blissful euphoria, which is super handy for carrying out incredibly mundane every day tasks that I usually detest - making my bed was quite literally the best, and easiest thing I’ve ever done.

When I went to see Mr Kitchen, I was a bit of a zombie, so he cut them down with a view to weaning me off them.

This is the bit that is very specific to me, and my sensitivity to any and all medications. If it’s in the ‘Extremely Rare’ side effects on the leaflet, you betcha I’ve got ‘em.

Yeeeeah…so – I can handle a pretty significant amount of medical pain with ease, but it turns out I cannot handle traditional weaning off, and I experienced full withdrawal. I was in a pile on the floor sobbing because my knees hurt so much. It felt like they were in a vice. I rang my GP, and asked him what to do. He was quite shocked (probably because this kind of reaction is quite rare), and he gave me a more gradual cut down plan. It took me longer to get off them that I’d been on them.

This is where I taught myself some Zen master tricks. I managed to tell myself that there was, in fact, nothing wrong with my knees. That it wasn’t going to actually do me any damage to walk or stand, so with that I was able to withstand having a shower.

The pain would come in waves in the night, and I fashioned a technique by which I visualised it as a bullet train zipping through the mountains. I waited for the train to pass, and then there was a painless quiet in-between. But I really enjoyed seeing the pain train pass. I managed to get some sleep using this technique.

Luckily, my operation was pushed by a month, so once I was off the steroids, I pledged to have one month dedicated to the pursuit of Zen. So I got a month’s pass for Yogahome (they’re incredible, and I don’t usually dig yoga), and ate crazy healthily. I was free.

And that, my friends, is the story of the steroids. Honestly, if steroids are right for you, they could play a big part in saving your life, so 100% take them if you’re advised to. I can’t stress this enough

If a Young Child Wanders, Technology Can Follow

Most parents have experienced that feeling of fear when a young child wanders off at the playground or disappears during a trip to the supermarket. New technology, in the form of voice watches and miniature sensing devices, is aimed at thwarting such distress by keeping track of children who are too young to carry a smartphone.

The new devices use GPS, Wi-Fi and other location-tracking technology and can be linked to apps on a parent’s phone. One device, a watch coming from Filip Technologies later this year, tracks a child’s location and lets him or her get voice calls from up to five people authorized by their parents. (Children lift the watch to their ear or mouth when communicating.)

The watch also has a red panic button that children can push if, for example, they suddenly become separated from their parents in a crowd. Then the watch starts dialing each of the authorized people until one answers. AT&T will be the network provider for the watch; its price has not yet been announced.

Sandra L. Calvert, a professor of psychology and the director of the Children’s Digital Media Center at Georgetown University, views the watches and related products as extensions of the way parents now use smartphones to keep track of older children.

“From a child’s perspective, a parent is like an anchor,” she said. These devices allow the child to move farther and farther away, yet the parent knows where the child is. “If a child gets lost in a store and can push a little button, their parents can find them,” she said. “It helps them to know they are in a range that seems to be safe.”

But the technology offered by the watches and similar products could be a mixed blessing, said Lisa Damour, a psychologist who focuses on parenting and directs the Center for Research on Girls at Laurel School in Shaker Heights, Ohio, and contributes to Motherlode blog of The New York Times.

“I can understand how a parent might want to know if their child is having a problem, but I don’t think it’s necessarily helpful for children to always be able to turn to their parents when they are struggling,” she said. “We want children to develop problem-solving skills and the capacity to manage stress” as they practice drawing on their own resources, or those of teachers, friends and others around them.

The panic button might have an unintended effect that’s not in the best interest of the child, she said. “It may reduce the parents’ anxiety to give their child a panic button, but I can readily imagine that it increases the child’s anxiety,” she said. “It sends a strong message that the child is at real risk of danger. This goes against what we know statistically.”

In reality, children are now safer from abduction by strangers than they’ve been in decades, said Lisa M. Jones, a research associate professor of psychology at the University of New Hampshire’s Crimes Against Children Research Center. “Abductions in the traditional sense of someone taken by someone else they don’t know, with the intention of keeping or harming the child — that’s quite rare,” she said. “The vast majority of children are victimized by people close to them.”

But even though such abductions are rare, she said, “obviously we are terrified by them.”

Jonathan Peachey, chief executive of Filip Technologies, said the watch might well increase a child’s anxiety, “but I would question whether that’s a bad thing.” With the watch, children have a sense that they can always talk to their parents in threatening situations. “That’s a conversation, and a very positive one for parents to have with their child,” he said.

Another new tracking device, the tiny Trax, also pairs with a smartphone app to allow parents to find their children, particularly very young ones, said Tobias Stenberg, a co-founder of Wonder Technology Solutions, a company in Stockholm that makes the device.

The tracker is meant for those worrisome moments when parents trying to keep an eye on a child playing in the garden, for example, suddenly discover that he or she isn’t there. “Your first reaction is a bit of panic, but if you look at your phone, you can see, ‘Oh, she’s returned to her room,’ ” Mr. Stenberg said.

The Trax, to be available later this month, costs $249 and includes a subscription for two years’ use in more than 30 countries, including the United States. After that, the company will charge a small monthly fee. Parents can draw boundaries on the screens of their smartphones, creating an electronic fence within which their child can roam. But if the child crosses the digital fence, the tracker alerts the parents, Mr. Stenberg said. And if the satellite signal is lost inside a building, for example, the Trax uses motion and direction sensors to determine the child’s position. (The device can also keep track of dogs, he said.)

For parents who opt for smartphones even for young children, many wireless services, like AT&T’s FamilyMap, offer programs that track the phones of family members, sending a text or email to parents telling them, for example, when their child’s phone arrives home after school.

Lynn Schofield Clark, an associate professor at the University of Denver and author of “The Parent App,” said parents who equip their young children with tracking devices still have to try to balance the parental instinct to protect their offspring with the need to nurture their sense of independence and responsibility.

Children can’t be protected by gadgets alone, she said — they also have to learn the basics of being a responsible family member: “We still have to remind them again and again that they have to let us know where they are and not wander off.”
