When they ask if you want to stay in academia after your PhD...

Today I sent off my first PhD application to Oslo. Next are the Max Planck PhD positions in Germany, and then after that to Leiden, where there is a possible project which would be so in my lane it is insane.

also my supervisor in Copenhagen wants me to get to know someone in the observatory at Munich who also does similar things as me, and where I would have the possibility to still work with her on the next projects.

Reintroducing myself

Hi, fellow studyblrs--whether you’re in high school, college, grad school and post grad!

I’m Layla from the Philippines, a public servant  in my mid-thirties, and currently in grad school, studying Diploma in Industrial Relations in the University of the Philippines. It’s my first year in graduate school, and I’m enjoying it so far! :)

When I am not in school, I obsess over period drama--current favourites are The Crown and Anne with an E. Forever favourites are Downton Abbey and Poldark. Other favourite things to do are baking, dabbling in lettering--mainly brush pen calligraphy, cooking, and volunteer work. For volunteer work, i currently work with The Friday Book Club, a non-profit, fledgling organisation composed of five dynamic women. Part of our work includes organising book drives for young children who have no convenient access to books, reading, and learning. 

As an avid listener of music, I listen to everything. Anything from Taylor Swift’s new music to the most classic of choral music (my currently most-repeated song is Gregorio Allegri’s Miserere) is my kinda jam. 

Since this is a study tumblr blog, I will [shamelessly] plug my academic interests. And they international law, labour law, labour force, industrial relations, and human resource management.

last week i had no motivation at all and was heavily depressed. i managed to pull myself out over the weekend, had two meetings today, and spent most of my evening working and researching. hopefully it will go on like this, as i have a lot to do and want to be done with all the science of my thesis by november, to only have to write it all up

also on thursday im meeting one of my best friends to write phd applications together, which sounds fun :)

next time we talk about applications for phd and postdoc positions, and i am very much lookong forward to it
