watching the entirety of jrwi: riptide again. here's some important things from the first few episodes that I feel we forgot (<110 mentions too though)
Jay
Had night terrors similar to those of Kubakinta's curse in episode 5, and they eventually start returning even after Loffinlot's curse is lifted ○ All of them were about her family and/or the navy ○ I simply think people leave her out of the nightmare stuff and she deserves it. Hurt her more, please (he said, lovingly)
was actually very upset at having to use her medal to get a Loffinlot rebellion to shut up ○ This could be because she didn't want them to guess she was a spy, but I choose to believe it's because she felt guilty
"If you're gonna be sailing with someone, you should have a good relationship with them. [nervous chuckle]." She says, while asking him for information about the Black Rose Pirates (ep. 10)
Said "thank god they didn't find me" after a nightmare about the navy attacking. Even when she was supposedly a spy, who one day would have to return to the navy ○ Very unclear if she was scared of her dad, or if it's because she was a secret spy so the navy would've just killed her
Rewatching, she was suspiciously into the plundering and gold and stuff. Like that was real sus. It doesn't fit her current character much
The only one among them who's gambled before
Chip
The entire thing literally starts off with Bizly holding a lit match
Called Gillion "Gill" and Jay "Sureshot" from an early stage
Was SO much more of a bastard. Lied to Gill constantly, didn't care about anything but the money, etc.
Had aggressive hand tremors alongside Jay's night terrors ○ Gill cures it with lay on hands
When he gets drunk married, they talk extensively about how he'd be released when he's dead. Welp.
They did actually break up and it was fine and they were still friends. They parted on good terms
Is really fucking good at chess ○ Beat Earl twice and Jay once. Jay had a point of exhaustion after a nightmare but Earl had no excuse ○ Lost to Gillion though, but only cause of prophetic screwup ○ This kid is smarter than he lets on, y'all
Was the first one to have a backstory dump while Jay is asking him about the Black Rose Pirates, yet still we know jack shit about his life before them other than "orphan"
Gill
Charlie has referred to Gillion with 'they' many times. I can pull receipts.
When describing Gill, Charlie said: "He's more.. elven, if you had to make a comparison. 'Cause I don't wanna be a fish guy". Oh, honey.
Smote a bald person by using his hair as a whip (ep. 4)
Was given anxiety and self-doubt alongside jay's night terrors and chip's tremors ○ "What do you want?" "I want the feeling of satisfaction I've been chasing my whole life." ○ This was episode FIVE.
First mention of the prophecy and how Gillion wasn't their ideal student is ep. 7, after he divine smites + prophetic screwups and deals like 60 damage to some beetles ○ Chip spends the next 30 seconds in gay awe
He refers to the crescent moon Niklaus tattoo as "my zodiac" (probably a bit) ○ It's not a lil basic white girl moon this thing is the entire size of his forearm
Gill had never heard about the Black Sea - it's unclear if the Undersea just don't know, or if that's just how sheltered he was (ep. 10)
Biz: "What would Gillion do. If he just had no goal - was just sitting there." "Gillion always has a goal." "Would his goal ever be to just.. Sit there?" "Absolutely not." ○ Later, Chip expresses that he doesn't know what Gillion likes. What he would want out of winning a bet. Gillion doesn't have an answer
Other
Apple, in a couple of early battles, acted like Gill's familiar (see: ep. 7)
They also pecked at his Niklaus tramp stamp and looked all confused at the idea of eating seeds
The specific crescent of the moon in the Niklaus tattoo is known as a symbol of "corruption" (ep. 9) and its antonym is the sun, for "life", similar to the yin and yang ○ Interesting to consider after what the tree said in 110 <_<
Pretzel has a masters degree in couple's therapy (ep. 10)
The Albatross/Millennium Chipper was described as the colour of rosewood or mahogany
Captain Lizzie's first introduction was a wanted poster, and Chip wanted to turn her in for the prize, then decided to try learn from her instead
Chip/Bizly called Old Man Earl "Erol" for a loooong time ○ Maybe it's an accent thing but I have an uncle called Erol and so this stands out to me

Apparently AMC is marathoning Orphan Black because half of season 1 is now in my DVR with the rest scheduled this weekend. Haven’t rewatched this acting master class in a bit so I guess I’ll be binging
Tumblr media
The sad thing is I have the first 2 seasons on DVD but I always feel guilty watching them since I ghosted the guy who gifted them to me

TAG GAME: EIGHT SHOWS TO GET TO KNOW ME
Going in order of oldest to newest. And I'm only including shows that have a complete run, so there's that. (that's not a rule, I just did that for me)
MASH
I don't always love a sitcom, but watching MASH was a family activity. Growing up we had one TV, it was before the internet and home computers, so we watched what Dad chose usually (more on that later). MASH was a lot of things, but mostly it taught me about being yourself in a group, that it was okay to be whatever you were and that you could make a family anywhere.
The Rockford Files
Jim Rockford, being witty and sarcastic but also a loving son and good friend, driving fast and solving cases as an ex-con Korean War vet in 1970s LA. What's not to love about all that? Dad really had an iron grip on the TV guide back in those days and for a kid some of the plots didn't make sense, but I have rewatched the whole series multiple times and I'm here to tell you, a lot of it holds up. What does it say about me? I guess it says that I really like car chases and easily solved mysteries wrapped up in some wide lapels. But also I guess that James Garner as Rockford is a blueprint for the kind of hero I enjoy (flawed but ulitmately kind and very loyal).
Twin Peaks
This is becoming about my Dad here, but this is another show that we both loved. Turns out, my Dad likes the weird stuff, too. This is the last show that we watched together regularly before I moved out. Narratively who knows wtf happens in any David Lynch joint, but that's not really the point to me. I love the absurd, dark, haunting elements it makes me think about. Sometimes it's incomprehensible and that's okay. Just like life.
Justified
The show that teaches you that dialogue makes the character. Boyd Crowder will forever be one of my favorite characters solely because of his dialogue (and Walton Goggins's delivery). Every character on this show has a distinct way of speaking and behaving and it is really one of the most enjoyable shows ever just for that reason. I have never dug coal, but I feel like I have after spending time with these characters. I guess this one says that I like realism sometimes? Also, a flawed but ultimately kind and loyal hero (Raylan Givens, meet Jim Rockford).
Orphan Black
I could go on for days about what this show means, but others have already done that better than I could, so I'll just say this: we all contain multitudes. Also, Tatiana Maslany should have won every acting award ever during her time on this show. Another show that made me think about how being yourself is really complicated sometimes and we don't always figure it out alone (found family, etc, etc).
Parks and Rec
A workplace comedy? On my list? Yes, and it's this one. Always makes me laugh and I see a bit of how I act with coworkers in a lot of the characters (not Leslie usually, but Ron frequently).  Gently sending up living in the Midwest while not making fun of it, mostly. Lost count of how many times I've watched this one.
Ripper Street
A flawed yet ultimately kind and loyal hero, crime solving, my favorite era of history, some of the best dialogue on any TV show, interesting and twisty plots, one of my all-time favorite actors, incredible attention to detail, and a very satisfying ending not to mention one of the nicest, kindest, and welcoming fandoms. Did I mention found family and workplace comedy? That's there too. (Edmund Reid, Raylan Givens, and Jim Rockford walk into a bar...wait, I'm only one person, get in line boys) One of my desert island shows, my go-to in times of stress, the thing I always recommend to people looking for something good (so long as they can stomach blood, that is).
Did you get to know me? lol, well maybe you'll watch one of these if you haven't before and find a new favorite.
Tagging a few people (participation only by your choice ofc) or just do it if you feel moved! @lizardsarevcool @hickeywiththegoodhair @valoricky @watchfuldeer @jennykin @quinnfabreys @swankpalanquin

Yeah I love it! Look: https://pin.it/5cqQ7a729
Awh that’s cute haha. Love the commitment with an edit and all.
Haha same, I wanted to study forensics because of it for a while 😂. I was so invested. Yeah same the earlier seasons were the peak.
That’s awesome! I’ve been doing it for 20+ years 😂💪🏼 Ah that’s sad, but cool that you’ve found another style that you like! Oh wow the variety sounds really cool! Nicee or as Jake Peralta says: Noice! Ooh you should, definitely keep me posted! 🧗🏻‍♀️
Ah I get that! I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you as well, who knows!
It did, it’s almost finished so yay me! Haha it did, we had a lot of fun! ☺️ well fun is always good!
Aaah yess I do definitely have one of those tv shows that I’ve rewatched in its entirety for I don’t know how many times. Grey’s anatomy and How I met your mother are my comfort shows. Also love New Girl and B99
- 🫐
Omg those are really cool!! Not sure if I could make them look as good but it does make me want to try 😂 my sister is nothing if not committed to the bit
I thought about studying forensics too for that exact reason! I ended uo going a very different route but for a little while that was a possibility for young Val.
20 years???? Omg that's so cool, you have my most sincere admiration. It's a part of my life I don't think I'll ever go back to, but I loved ballet so much, dancing it for so long has to be really awesome :') it was really nice to find something else, yes. I've always loved dancing, even if I'm not very good at it, but I enjoy it so much, it's a lot of fun
I'll let you know how it goes <3 and thank you! I hope I'll get lucky one of these days, it hasn't happened yet but well. Just have to keep trying I guess
I haven't watched Grey's anatomy beyond one episode I randomly watched on TV and they were in a plane?? I thought it was Lost at first, I was very confused they weren't at the hospital 😂 I do have to start it at some point, but it's so long I never find the moment to do it. I have watched himym however, even if it was mostly when it was on TV so I never watched the whole thing from start to finish 😂 b99 is probably my top comfort show, but I also greatly enjoy Orphan black and fringe, two very different vibes 😂
I hope you had a nice weekend! And that the start of the week has been kind to you

My options on these couples, whats yours ,also feel free to add other couples
Callie and Arizona - favorite couple wish they never broke up so much or got divorced and the show actually showed them getting back together
Piper and Alex (orange is the new black) - but for each other but I loved them
Clarke and lexa (the 100)- one of my favorite wish lexa lived so we could see more
Cassie and izzie (atypical) I loved them, by the last season they were the only reason I continued to watch
Santana and Britney (glee) hated, could be because I didn't like Britney at all
Nyssa and Sara (arrow) honestly loved them the little that we did see never liked ava (sorry I know that was your old username) but it did make me like nyssa sara once she was introduced
Maggie and Alex (supergirl) best couple in the show but of course they had to have a baby fight
Cosima and delphine (orphan black) liked more than hated
Emily and Alison (pretty little liars) hated them Emily could do better
Lena and Stef (the fosters) loved one of the most stable lgbqt couple I've seen on tv
Maya and Carina (station 19) don't dislike
i'll do the ones i know!
Callie and Arizona: obvs my loves, they're so dumb and so in love and they do dumb shit all the time, it's great; i admittedly do like the separations purely for the content haha
Piper and Alex (orange is the new black): so like i've seen it, but i don't really have an opinion i guess
Clarke and lexa (the 100): the absolute death grip clexa had me in in 2015/16; i cried when lexa died; but i haven't read any clexa in a solid like 4+ years now i bet
Santana and Britney (glee): like i like them and think glee is jokes, but i don't know if i'd like seek out much content there; but they're pretty cute
Nyssa and Sara (arrow): they're fine, i don't have strong feelings really; but between nyssa and ava, i personally much prefer ava
Maggie and Alex (supergirl): i've only seen the first season and part of s2 supergirl before i hardcore lost interest and i don't remember being particularly invested in them? but maybe that's just my anti slexie/lexie bias
Cosima and delphine (orphan black): liked them well enough, but didn't think they were ever the most interesting part of the show
Maya and Carina (station 19): honestly they're really cute and it's a bummer they get a lot of calzona bitterness directed towards them bc i think they're fun
(and some of my own haha)
Catra and Adora (she-ra): adorable dumbasses who i'm exceedingly fond of
Villanelle and Eve (KE): obsessed, fantastic, wonderful; i refuse to watch the last season
Carmilla and Laura: once again, death grip on like 2015-16 me
Harley and Ivy (new animated show): genuinely one of my current faves; and everyone should watch the show
Korra/Asami: okay full confession 2014 me had some issues and was against them, but since rewatching it i'm very fond of them

So I've been rewatching 'Doctor Who' on my new big Blu-ray set and found a full disc of extras at the end of season 9. I'm not sure what I expected to find on it, but lo and behold, there's a delightful discussion with Jenna Coleman and Peter Capaldi being interviewed by none other than Wil Wheaton. I've never hit the Play button so fast. Nice to see you bring the same energy to Doctor Who that you always have for Star Trek, and you and Capaldi comparing notes on how you pilot your ships was simply amazing. I got real "Ready Room" vibes from the whole thing - just curious, did that interview happen before Ready Room or were you already doing that too?
Gosh that was almost 15 years ago, I think, at the absolute peak of the Nerdist / Geek & Sundry golden age, before Legendary burned it all down.
I loved doing that. What a thrill it was! Capaldi was as excited as I was, so enthusiastic and generous with his time. Jenna Coleman was quiet and reserved, and I remember feeling like he and I splashed weird nerd all over her shoes.
When I did that, I'd done a little bit of aftershow stuff for Falling Skies, a premiere special for Orphan Black, and ... I think something else that I'm forgetting. I also had a really large and responsive Twitter following, before that whole website became the Nazi disinformation platform it is now, and I think BBC wanted to reach that audience via my interview.
I appreciate your kind observations regarding that and Ready Room. I grew up watching Mike Douglas, The Tonight Show, Dick Cavett, and I loved the way they talked with their guests. When I had the opportunity to do what they did, I just did my best to live up to their example.
I guess it worked, because I've been hosting interview shows ever since.

My Top Ten Overlooked Movies With Female Leads In No Particular Order
Note: When you see this emoji (⚠️) I will be talking about things people may find triggering, which are spoilery more often then not. I mention things that I think may count as triggers so that people with them will be aware before going in to watch any of these.
Edited: 3/16/21
Hanna (2011)
Tumblr media
So, before I get into why you should watch this movie, I just want to take a moment to say why it's near and dear to my heart. Growing up as a queer kid in the early 2000s, seeing portrayals of people like or similar to myself on anything was rare at best. It was mostly in more "adult" movies or shows that my parents would occasionally let me watch with them that I'd see any lgbtq+ rep at all. Often times they were either walking stereotypes, designed to be buried, evil, or all three.
Then here comes this PG-13 action thriller with a wonderfully written main female lead who, at the time, was close to my age, and who got to kiss another girl (her very first friend, Sophie) on screen in an extremely tender and heartwarming scene. To say the least, it was a life changing moment for me personally.
Now that I've gotten that out of the way, Hanna is a suspenseful movie about a child super-soldier named, you guessed it, Hanna (played by Saoirse Ronan) and her adoptive (?) father Erik Heller (played by Eric Bana) exiting the snowy and isolated wilderness of their home and taking on the shadowy CIA operative, Marissa Wiegler (played by Cate Blanchette) who wants Erik dead and Hanna for herself for mysterious reasons.
It also has an amazing soundtrack by the Chemical Brothers, great action scenes, and it has an over arching fairytale motif, which I'm always a sucker for.
⚠️ Mild blood effects, some painful looking strikes, various character deaths, and child endangerment all feature in this film. However, given its PG-13 rating, a majority of viewers are presumably able to handle this one. Still, be aware of these going in.
Sidenote: It's recently gotten a TV adaptation on Amazon TV, although I have not watched it, and do not know if Hanna and Sophie's romantic/semi-romantic relationship has transferred over.
A Simple Favor
Tumblr media
A Simple Favor is a "black-comedy mystery thriller" centered entirely around the relationship between two mothers, the reclusive, rich, mysterious, and regal Emily (played by Blake Lively), and the local recently widowed but plucky mommy blogger, Stephanie (played by Anna Kendrick). When Emily suddenly goes missing, Stephanie takes it upon herself to find out what happened to her new best friend.
It's a fantastic and entertaining movie throughout, with fun, flawed and interesting characters. The relationship between the two female leads is also implied to be at least somewhat romantic in nature, and they even share a kiss.
⚠️ The only major warnings I can think of is that the movie contains an instance of incest and one of the main plotlines revolves around child abuse, although both of these potentially triggering topics are not connected to each other, so there is thankfully no csa going on.
Edit: I legitimately forgot there was drug use in this movie until now. So, yeah, if that's a trigger, be careful of that.
I Am Mother
Tumblr media
I became mildly obsessed with this movie when it came out. I Am Mother is a sci-fi film that centers entirely around a cast of two woman, and a female-adjacent robot who is brought to life on screen with absolutely amazing practical effects.
The plot is such, after an extinction-level event, a lone robot known only as Mother tasks herself with replenishing the human race via artifical means. She begins with the film's main protagonist, Daughter. Years go by as Mother raises her human child and the two prepare for Daughter's first sibling (a brother) to be born. However, on Daughter's 16th birthday, the arrival of an outsider known only as Woman shakes Daughter's entire world view. She begins to question Mother's very nature, as well as what's really going on outside the bunker she and her caretaker call home.
⚠️ This movie features child endangerment and reference to child death.
Lilo and Stitch
Tumblr media
When I decided to add a single Disney film to this list I initially thought it was going to be hard but almost immediately my brain went to Lilo and Stitch, and specifically about the relationship between Lilo and Nani.
On the surface, this film is about a lonely little girl accidentally adopting a fugitive alien creature as a "dog," but underneath that the story is also about two orphaned sisters and the older sister's attempts to not let social services tear them apart by stepping up as the younger sister's primary guardian. Despite its seemingly goofy premise, Lilo and Stitch has a very emotional and thoughtful center. It's little wonder how this movie managed to spawn an entire franchise.
Despite the franchise it spawned (or possibly because of it), I often find that Lilo and Stitch is overlooked and many people only remember it for the "little girl adopts an alien as a pet" portion of its plot, and I very rarely see it on people's top 10 Disney lists.
⚠️ This movie could be potentially triggering to people who were separated from their siblings or other family members due to social service intervention. There's also a bit of child endangerment, including a scene where Lilo and Stitch both almost drown.
Nausicaä and the Valley of the Wind
Tumblr media
Unlike the above entry, I did struggle a little bit with picking a single Studio Ghibli film. Most media of the Ghibli catalogue have strong, well-written, unique, and interesting female leads so selecting just one seemed like quite the task.
However, I eventually settled on this particular film. In recent months, Princess Nausicaä has become my absolute favorite Ghibli protagonist and I'm absolutely enchanted by the world she lives in.
Set in a post-apocalyptic world overun by giant insects and under threat of a toxic forest and its poisoness spores, Nausicaä must try to protect the Valley of the Wind from invaders as she also tries to understand the science behind the toxic forest and attempts to bridge the gap between the insects and the humans.
For those who have never seen the film, I think Nausicaä's personality can best be described as being similar to OT Luke Skywalker. Both are caring, compassionate, and gentle souls who are able to see the best in nearly anyone or anything. She's an absolutely enthralling protagonist and after rewatching the film again for the first time in well over a decade she has easily become one of my all time favorite protagonists.
Whenever I see people talk about Ghibli films, they rarely mention this one, and when they do mention it, it's often in passing. In my opinion it's a must watch.
⚠️ This movie contains some blood, and the folks who either don't like insects or who have entomophobia may not appreciate the giant bugs running about throughout the movie. (Although most insects do not directly relate to real life bugs, and are fantasy creatures).
A Silent Voice
Tumblr media
A Silent Voice is an animated movie adaptation of a manga of the same name. While I've never had the pleasure to read the manga, the movie is phenomenal. It covers topics such a bullying, living in the world with a disability, the desire for atonement, social anxiety, and depression in a well thought out manner that ties itself together through the progression of the relationship between its two leads, Shoya and Shouko. It's also beautifully animated. Although very popular among anime viewers, I've noticed that it's often overlooked by people who watch little to no anime. So I suppose this is me urging non-anime viewers to give this film a chance.
⚠️ As mentioned above, the movie deals with bullying, anxiety, and depression (with this last one including suicidal thoughts and behaviour). If discussion of those topics are triggering to you, than you may want to proceed with caution or skip this movie all together.
In This Corner of The World
Tumblr media
Another manga adaptation, this one taking place during WWII-era Japan. In This Corner of The World follows the life of a civilian Japanese woman, Suzu Urano, as she navigates simply living and her new marriage as the wartime invades nearly all aspects of everyday life. I think this movie is a good representation of what it must be like to be living as civilian in a country at war where the fight is sometimes fought on one's own soil. It was also an interesting look into pre-50s Japanese culture in my opinion. It's also beautifully animated featuring an art style I don't see often.
Despite it being well known among anime fans, I never really see it be brought up, even among said anime fans themselves.
Side note: I've seen many WWII dramas centering around civilians but they've almost always been about American or UK civilians. This was the first movie I'd seen that features the perspective of a Japanese civilain.
⚠️ Features the death of a child and limb loss. There's also a disturbing scene featuring a victim of one of the atomic bombs near the end.
Wolf Children: Ame and Yuki
Tumblr media
This film follows Hana, a Japan-native woman who fell in love with a magical shape-shifting wolf-man, and her trials with raising their children, who can also magically shape-shift into wolves, on her own. It's a very heartfelt movie about a mother's love and the struggles of doing right by your children when you have limited resources to actively guide and care for them. All the characters feel unique and alive in my opinion. Also, the animation is so good that my sister and I initially mistook it for a Ghibli film.
Again, like the previous two anime entries, I don't see it ever brought up outside of anime circles.
⚠️ There's some child endangerment present in the film, although none of it is the fault of Hana as far as I can remember.
Roman Holiday
Tumblr media
Roman Holiday is about the fictional Princess Ann (played by Audrey Hepburn), who while on a whirlwind tour of Europe, finally reaches her breaking point over having her entire life be one big schedule and all her words and actions being rehearsed. In the spur of the moment, she runs away in hopes of experiencing what life is like for other women. Unfortunately, she was previously given a sedative, meaning she doesn't get too far before it takes effect. Fortunately, she is found by the kind reporter Joe Bradley (played by Gregory Peck). Believing her to be drunk and unable to get an address from her (because she has none) he ends up taking her home for safety's sake and allows her to sleep off her suppose drunken stupor. The next day, he realizes who she is, and decides to take her on a fun sight seeing trip across Rome in hopes of getting the big scoop. Along the way, they begin to fall for each other.
This is my favorite black and white, old romance film. I think the relationship between the main characters is absolutely beautiful and I have a lot of fun watching it.
⚠️ I'm not entirely sure what kind of warning this film would need. However, it was released in 1953, so values dissonance will probably be at play for many viewers to at least some extent. For example, early in the film Ann is given sedation drugs by her doctor for her behavior, something that is very unlikely to happen today. Also, Mr Bradley deciding to take Ann home to keep her safe rather than call the police or an ambulance is a very pre-90s decision in my opinion.

AWAE 3x3 rewatch: thoughts and reactions
So I made a ginormous pause in between these again. I just wasn’t feeling up to the task, I guess. But it’s the anniversary of the premiere of AWAE, so what better day to do the penultimate one of these... Let’s just dive in because it’s been literal years since I first saw this episode and I remember literally nothing from it.
Oh my, Bash is just the best. And those baby chicks... well, I know what is most likely to happen to chickens on a farm when they grow older but... can we just maybe not think of that yet? Plus, seeing Mary keeps reminding me that soon I won’t be seeing her anymore. It’s safe to say I have mixed feelings about this cold open. Let’s move on.
Gosh, now they’re leaving Matthew alone with Delly, who is two types of people he’s uncomfortable around - a baby and a girl. But it’s fine, it will be just ‘a couple of hours’...
It is such a shame to think that Mary might have been saved... if she were white. People can be so awful. A human being is a human being. At least there are people like Dr. Ward and our protagonists who know that and act accordingly.
Oh... there’s that cute scene of Matthew showing Delly around Green Gables that I’ve seen in so many gifs... I can’t comment much on it so I’ll just sit back and enjoy. But before I go - Matthew is the best, most gentle man I’ve ever seen. He might be awkward around women and children, but he knows how to treat them right better than most people who are not awkward around them.
Oh gosh, the nappy! That kind of made me laugh out of place but, well, I just wanted to say - thank gods for Jerry and his many siblings. My boy knows how to change nappies.
Oh, they’ve got the printing press! Now that’s exciting! I feel like excitement is a good word to describe this episode, at least so far. We’ll see how I feel by the end of it. All I know is this is making me smile and I’ve really been needing that.
My, my, Ruby... I keep forgetting when it was that she got over Gilbert. Apparently it was not before mid-season, since she’s still in it way too deep.
Oh wait... is this when things began happening between her and Moody? I mean, the way he gives her his handkerchief, you’d think ever since he stopped trying to make Diana and her ‘very blue’ dress notice him, he’s been sitting back and watching Ruby from afar, hoping he can, somehow, compare to Gilbert. The best part is, in just a bit, he won’t need to. Boy, do I need a fourth season even if just to see these two develop... and for Diana and Jerry to make up, and just in general to see the kids being all grown up... now I feel like crying because we’ll very probably never get it... ok, moving on.
Anne: Sometimes life finds gifts in the darkest of places./ Marilla: Indeed. Wait, was this Marilla’s way of telling Anne she loves her? This is just the best.
The contrast between scenes dealing with Mary and the rest of the episode is just so stark, it’s jarring. It’s like, you never know the darkness someone might be sinking into  while everybody else is bathing in the light. You know, everybody involved in making this episode, and the show in its entirety, made it so poetic, and yet it’s not. It’s absolutely devastating. And now Gilbert can’t even tell Mary that she’s got no more than two weeks left. This is the worst.
You know, Anne is right. Caring deeply will always be the right thing. I mean, it’s natural for Gilbert to doubt himself at this time, especially since the tragedy is happening to his own found family. You know, there’s something my mum taught me to do when I’m watching something and I can’t bear the subject matter of it - focus on the acting. And right now I’m just blown away by the superb performance by these incredible young people. But I really can’t bear to focus on the plot right now. And the acting being that good doesn’t particularly help me to detach myself from the story.
You know, tragic as what’s happening to Mary certainly is, it’s somehow lucky she has Anne in her life now that she’s about to leave her own daughter to grow up motherless. Because if only Anne’s parents had an orphan tell them what an orphaned child needs most, Anne’s own experience might have been very different. Mary is a very smart woman for realising that and talking to Anne about it. Because life is not about lamenting what we didn’t have. It’s about making sure we do what is in our power to make it easier for others if we can.
Ah, yes. Racism and ‘White Man’s Burden’ mentality are still very much a thing present here. I guess this here is the first mention of that horrible prison of a school that Ka’kwet would be sent to. This is. The. Worst.
I just can’t bear to listen to this guy. ‘Heathens’ - you mean people with a rich culture and belief system beyond your privileged straight white male comprehension? ‘Teach them all things civilised’ - you mean erase their own, I repeat, rich culture, and replace it with your white man’s ideas of civilisation? What deity fell from the heavens and made you God? And the way Rachel totally agrees with this guy, it just makes me sick. As if that guy would hesitate to discriminate against you on the basis of you being a woman! I just can’t with this. Let’s move on.
‘Be sure you marry for love. Only for love.’ Don’t worry, Mary, he will. Not before a huge, long period of confusion, mind you. But he’ll come to his senses eventually. People do stupid things when they’re young. That’s how they know they’ve lived it to the fullest.
Rachel just baffles me, you know. And Marilla, too, isn’t quite faultless here. How can you be so accepting of one kind of POC, yet so cruel to another? Then I remember their initial reactions to meeting Bash. They were not the most accepting at first. Yet they can see how they’ve now grown to accept and care deeply about Bash and Mary and Delphine. Why can’t they give Ka’kwet’s people a chance like this?
‘You may well have saved some Indians today’... Saved them? From what? Being free to practice their own culture? You know, white people can be so very ignorant... and I say that as a very white person. I’m just ashamed of everything my ethnicity has done to literally every other ethnicity.
‘I don’t wanna die’... You know, sometimes I do, and right now that makes me feel so ashamed. I should really think of Mary and also every real person who had an untimely death whenever I’m having those thoughts again. We should all learn to appreciate life so much more.
So this is the one with Mary’s Easter... this is beautiful. I might have to rescind my ‘excitement’ statement from earlier, but there is still a theme of beauty, love and family throughout this. Well, technically throughout the entire series, but especially here. I love this.
Delphine with a flower crown is the cutest thing ever...
Minnie May: She looks like a chocolate candy. I just... took notice of how the background music abruptly stopped. You know, coming from an older person, this would sound... not at all ok. But this 7-year-old didn’t mean any harm, and they realise it after a brief moment of panic in their eyes. Still... black people don’t call us, idk, butter or something. We should not compare their skin colour to chocolate.
Their singing is absolutely beautiful. But let’s be real - in a real-life situation, most of the people would be way off-key and those harmonies would be impossible to arrange. Still, for this beauty, I am willing to suspend my disbelief for miles. Also, that prayer at the end... well, I’m not Christian, but I am religious, and I know the power of a prayer as poetic as this one. However hard it must have been for Mary to know she wouldn’t live, it must have been a great consolation to know she would go in such a way, surrounded by so much beauty and love, and light. Well, that ending was bittersweet! But I absolutely loved this episode. Except for the racist parts that made me absolutely livid. It’s so frustrating to know there is still so much hate in the world based just on minor superficial differences between people. Yet it would have been even more frustrating if we didn’t have people in the world like our protagonists (and especially the protagonist, Anne). It is such an absolute shame that this show, and others like it, got cancelled over some trivial issues and wasn’t given the proper chance to develop its positive messages even further. But still, even with just the 27 episodes it was given, it was able to cover so much ground. I don’t know what to say. AWAE is just supreme.
Let’s sum up: the final weeks of Mary’s life; racial prejudice might have just cost this lovely woman, a wife and a mother, her life; Matthew showing Delly around Green Gables is the sweetest thing; the first press-printed issue of The Avonlea Gazette, with a significant typo; and thus, a ship was born; subtle ways of saying those three little words; ‘Caring deeply will always be the right thing.’; the legacy of a mother; ‘White Man’s Burden’ mentality is alive and dangerous; double standards regarding the acceptance of POC; Mary’s Easter; going surrounded by a loving community.

I was tagged by @kylermalloy 🥰
Favorite color: I have a favorite shade of pretty much every color but I'm currently having a pink phase, so I'm going with that.
Last song: Willow *Taylor Swift
Last film: Flashback which was trippy and intense, a little confusing but also thought provoking. Dylan O'Brien's performance was top tier (obviously).
Last series: The Queen's Gambit. I know little to nothing about chess but it's surprisingly compelling to watch.
Currently reading: I have a bunch of books started. When I will get back to them is anyone's guess. Dedicating most of my free time to writing.
Currently watching: Orphan Black ♥ (rewatch inspired by Kyler)
Sweet, savory, or spicy? Sweet! I can handle spicy on occasion, but I like sugar. (How convenient! Kyler wrote my answer for me. ty😘)
Tea or coffee? Both, but I drink tea every day. (And apparently, she almost wrote this one too 😉)
Currently craving: Coffee (but it's too late for caffeine), dark chocolate (perpetually), Chinese food (still). Also hugs and kisses.
Currently working on: finishing Falling Slowly, a fic I've been writing for over 2 years, also several other Stydia WIPs including some AUs, which I've never tried before. Super excited about those!

ADD YOURSELF TO MY TAGLIST!
you are a famous child actor that eddie has had a crush on ever since he could remember. now that you are a young woman in your twenties filming for the movie 𝑠𝑖𝑛𝑔𝑙𝑒𝑠, maybe it was fate that brought you two together.
A/N - layout by @adoresobs!  i don’t know, this may suck.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
acting had been your passion. ever since you were five years old, you graced the screens of many tvs and movie theaters, going from playing an artist’s daughter on sesame street in 1973 to one of the older orphaned teenagers on the musical annie to a lifeguard on baywatch. your character on the show was taken off due to filming conflicts; they had written her so she got an opportunity to go to college with a full-ride scholarship. all throughout your nineteen-year acting career, young eddie had watched every movie and show you were in, his crush on the [y/r] woman that glorified every monitor you were on.
when he was nine years old, he began rewatching sesame street just because you were on it. his friends at school made fun of him, but they just didn’t understand. they didn’t understand his need to see you on his tv screen, to hear you speak. he began watching baywatch when it came out in 1989 just because he heard you were on it. and he was mesmerized by the way your body fit into that swimsuit, the way you looked so perfect when you ran despite them always putting it in slow motion, the way your hair bounced everytime your foot made contact with the sand. he was in love with every inch of you.
in 1991, when he heard that you were no longer going to be on baywatch, he was disheartened. his favorite actress saving people after they did something he loved to do was addicting to him. he longed to be in their spot. but then he heard that it was due to filming conflicts, and knew immediately that it was because you had other things coming out. when he and his band released their debut album, ten, he hoped it got big enough for them have their names be heard around the world. he hoped you listened to their music, hoped that you loved his voice and the lyrics he wrote, loved the music videos.
close to his birthday in 1991, he heard that you had an interview with david letterman, and he was going to watch it. he had to. he flipped to the channel it was on and waited for you to come onstage. when you were introduced by letterman, the audience cheered as you walked out onstage in a black loose minidress with spaghetti straps, your hair done in the latest style as you waved to the camera, smiling widely as you got nearer to letterman and gave him a hug. it was short, quick, and you say down immediately once the two of you pulled away. the interview went on as usual, david asking you if you had any upcoming projects, you answering them vaguely, and you recounting stories from the photos he showed, laughing at the funny bits, blushing when you got to an embarrassing detail that involved you, and nodding to show you understood the question you were being asked. “have you been eyeing anybody as of now?” letterman asked. “you’ve been single since you debuted in acting back in 1973, and now you are a twenty-three year old woman, and no sign of a lover!” the audience chuckles at him.
“um. . .” you laugh a little. “i haven’t been seeing anybody, i’m a busy person, so i don’t have much time even for myself, let alone somebody else. but god. . .” you rubbed your elbow, a telltale sign you were a bit nervous. “eddie vedder from the band pearl jam is really cute. i wouldn’t mind meeting him.”
“that’s who your eyeing?” letterman asks. you nod, and eddie feels his heart swell in his chest. you knew who he was. you knew his band, you listened to him, watched his interviews. “yeah,” you defend, “i like energetic guys with blue eyes and long brown hair. he’s cute.” someone in the audience whistles and cheers, causing you to laugh. “he is! i’d love to meet him someday.” eddie’s palms begin to sweat, his eyes widen and he begins breathing heavily. he was your type. you liked him.
“have you listened to their album?”
“i’m sorry?” You turn your attention back to letterman.
“have you listened to pearl jam’s album?”
“yes, i have!” you nod. “it’s amazing!”
“what’s your favorite song?” letterman organizes the pile of notes in his hand, the rhythmic sound of the pat, pat, pat sounding loudly through eddie’s tv speaker. you click your tongue, leaning back in your chair, hands holding on to the armrests.
“oh, god, that’s hard,” you thought for a moment. “it’s a tie between oceans, garden, and black.” your hands tap against the rests three times — left, right, left. “it’s hard to choose, he’s got such a dreamy voice!” you chuckle, trying to calm yourself down as the small weepings of your crush begin to come out of you. they’ve done some interviews for their album and a few live shows, which you’ve watched as much as you could in order to see the frontman, loving the way he was so energetic and full of happiness.
the rest of the interview went by in a blur for you and eddie, and he went to bed, your face imprinted on the backs of his eyelids as he fell asleep.
a few short months had passed before eddie and the rest of the band were asked to come on-set to act out their very few scenes, not knowing who else, other than matt dillon and chris cornell, were going to be there. you were off-camera, readjusting your jean jacket sleeves as matt and the others were getting ready for the restaurant scene. eddie was sitting across from matt, on the edge of the seat, sharpie in hand as he listened to what jeff was reading about the fictional band, citizen dick. you noticed him, hair tucked behind his right ear as he said one of his only lines, “a compliment for us, is a compliment for you.”
cliff, matt’s character, begins to object, when you were given the clue to get on-set and sit next to matt, as you were playing his childhood friend, ruby. eddie’s face showed momentary shock as you sat on matt’s left thigh — as was scripted — and took a sip of the coffee from his cup. “i’m guessing you all read the news article about you, huh?” you restated the line you read over and over in your home and in the dressing room, your arms crossing in front of you and you begin leaning on them, forearms pressed against the wood.
“yeah,” matt placed his hand on your hip, sensing that you had gotten a little wobbly and was making sure you didn’t fall. “this negative energy just makes me stronger.” you chortle into the cup, “sure.”  the watch your character wore began beeping, alerting you to act as if you were rushing. “i have to go, see you all later!” a chorus of deep, male, “bye!” follows you as you walked over to the diner’s door and walk out. the director yelled out, “cut!” and all of you knocked out of character.
Tumblr media
standing in line to grab a quick lunch, you eyed the crowd, in search of the frontman of the grunge band, quickly recognizing him by his bandmates, his blue eyes frantically looking around. once he spotted you looking at him, his cheeks flare up, heat rushing into them as he looked back to his friends. he wanted to come up to you and talk, but he was just too shy, too flustered to make any real conversation, let alone any small talk. if only he had the confidence one of his former classmates had, then he would make conversation, ask you out on a date and just overall be with you. noticing his hesitation, you planned to talk to him later when he was away from his bandmates just so he was at ease in some form and they weren’t around to make fun of him; you could at least do that much for him.
Tumblr media
“eddie!” you called out as he walked away from your direction, not noticing you sitting on one of the couches in the lounge area, standing up from the comfortable cushion to make your way over to him. he paused midstep, recognizing your voice instantly, heartrate picking up at the thought of you talking to him, hearing your footsteps coming closer to him. clenching his hands in his jacket pockets, he takes a deep breath before facing you, blue eyes wide as he eyes your figure coming closer to him, a reassuring smile sketched on your lips. “are you alright? you look a little nervous,” you stated, eyebrows furrowing as you noticed the somewhat deep breaths the frontman took.
“yeah,” he blushes deeper. “y-yeah, i’m fine.” he clears his throat. “what are you doing here?”
“i work here,” you chuckle lowly, crossing your arms across your chest. “but are you okay, really? remember, i’m an actress. i can tell when someone is acting or not.”
so you saw through his lie, he noted. “um. . . i’m just nervous to be around you, that’s all.”
“why?”
“’cause he has a crush on you, that’s why!” mike’s voice calls out through the studio, causing eddie’s blush to become deeper and to spread across his ears, his head bowing to hide his face.
“really?”
a nod. you took a step forward, reaching forward to take the cook county native’s face in your hands, moving it so it faced you, a small smile on your lips, reassuring and warm. “you want to take this somewhere your bandmates wouldn’t interfere?”
another nod.
“okay, come on,” you took his hand in yours, leading him through the many corridors and crew members to what was your dressing room, a private place that was rare nowadays. “sit anywhere you’d like.” there was the makeup chairs you sat in every single day, multiple times a day, a sofa in the corner of the room, and a director’s chair with your last name stamped onto the back. he took the sofa, hearing you lock the door behind you, giving you and him more privacy. “i’m sorry your friend did that,” you said as you made your way to the makeup chair, one foot still on the floor while the other was resting on the crosshatched wood pieces between the legs of the chair. you did it to give him the space he possibly needed, but to eddie, it seemed like you were avoiding him. his heart broke even more.
“i should’ve expected that, if i’m being honest,” he chuckled, trying to get rid of the embarassment that settled deep in his bones, but you still saw the blush that was slowly creeping away.
“they still had no right to do that,” with this, you stand up, make your way across the room, and sit down next to him, taking his hand in yours. they were warm; rough at the fingertips at the many years of playing guitar. you could feel the small calluses that were healing, the small imprints of the guitar strings, telling you that he had been playing recently, locked away in some small room. you sighed, “today is your last day here on set. i didn’t get to spend enough time to know you, but i got to talk to your bandmates.”
he nods, “yeah, i guess time works in mysterious ways.”
“but it doesn’t have to. how about i take you out to dinner?”
shocked, his head snaps up, peering into your [y/e/c] eyes, round and hopeful. “really?” you nod, laughing when you see his smile widen. “yes, really.”
“i’d love to!”

July 7: Orphan Black 1x04
I still have a lot of anxiety about this Work Issue. I have to go to a Meeting about it tomorrow. A meeting that will take up a lot of time I could actually spend working so... that’s good lol. Efficient and necessary.
I was slightly better at distracting myself today than yesterday, though.
Watched another episode of Orphan Black--1x04.
This was a really good ep! Full of excitement and humor. I guess it didn’t really have enough Felix, but other than that: the comfort of the police procedural; the deepening mystery of the killer clone; Helena bringing the humor, the drama, and the creepiness; Alison pretending to be Sarah...
I forgot that the clones were impersonating each other this early on. I remember that being a recurring event in the show, because it literally never gets old seeing Tatiana Maslany play one character pretending to be another character who she herself also plays. But for some reason I thought it was something they only did later.
I also enjoyed Helena a lot in this episode. I loved her pretending to be Sarah. I’m skeptical of her plotline as a whole, as I mentioned before, but I’ll eat my words about her in S1 specifically. She is a really interesting combination of genuinely creepy, weirdly funny, and just overall Dramatic. Like it’s not just the rearranging of the crime scene photos or the stick figures or whatever because most of that is classic Serial Killer Story fare. It’s the calling up Paul and then leaving in order to throw Sarah into interpersonal drama. It’s the posing herself as an angel in the apartment before Sarah comes in. Like some of it has two purposes--for example, calling in Paul is a threat, because it provides more opportunity for Sarah to be exposed, but it’s also just messy bitch drama. And some of it really is more for the Aesthetic--like the posing. I did think that recording herself giving a confession as Beth was very smart. A very creative threat.
I’m finding Cosima really annoying on this rewatch. I’ve always had a little bit of a thing about her because I never got the hype, but I didn’t actively dislike her but this time... Idk if I’ve kind of jinxed myself about her, if she aged badly as a character, or if she really is just that annoying. The verbal tics and the constant excitement really get to me. Also, it’s sort of irritating how she’s a scientist but also just the generic brain trust. All of the info she gave today was like...anthropological.
The scene with Paul and Art and Sarah reads way different when you realize Art and Beth were having an affair. “We’re having problems.” / “So I heard, but you don’t bring that here.”
I do like that Sarah already trusts Art enough to “trust him to figure this whole thing out.” Love that for them.
I don’t know if I find it surprising that Mrs. S believed Alison was Sarah (esp. given the obvious retcon that she knew about the clones), but I think it makes sense that Kira saw the truth. She’s a smart kid. But more importantly, that’s her mom.
Next ep is looking to be a Paul-heavy one and I hate Paul lol. So boring. But hopefully there’ll be some good stuff in there, too. I can’t believe the next ep marks the halfway point of the season.

9. 13. 25. 27. 35 for the tv/movie asks
9. Top 5 characters
right now it’s probably got to be noa kean (code black) - s2 rewatch no.3 is hitting different, emily if ur reading this i am free all the time hmu
michaela pratt (htgawm) - final season did her so dirty but she’s My Girl
tk strand (911: lonestar) - baby boy. just wnt to hug him and steal his hoodie collection
julie molina (jatp) - girlie has my whole heart, she can sing and has style? take all my money
and klara gold (the immortalists) - sobbing over her is the most cathartic experience for me, love my strong-willed, probably clinically insane, alcoholic magician
 13. Top 5 dead characters
robert willis (code black) – the man had maybe 2 minutes of screen time but like that’s my husband
root (person of interest) – it’s been 4 years since she died and i have not stopped crying over her?? truly insane. also one of the deciding factors for me realising i liked girls so thanks amy acker !!
wes gibbins (htgawm) – deserved SO much more???
laurel lance (arrow) – i feel like the fact that i had to skip school the day after her death episode aired says enough
klara gold (again) – really can’t put into words how much she means to me? i went into her section knowing she’d die but the tragic heroine Always gets me i guess
 25. Top 5 ships
luke/lorelai (gilmore girls) – they always remind me of soulmateism, their relationship also kind of reminds me of my parent’s one so yeah i love them a lot.
jeff/annie (community) – the pining, the denial, the long looks….. truly am a wh*re for them
buck/eddie (911) – non-canon canon husbands raising their kid together, what more does a girl want
rox/ethan (code black) – technically off-screen endgame but i’ll accept it given the glorious angst of their back and forth before she nearly dies and he drops everything and everyone for her? just say you’re in love and go honestly but like internally, v secret, maybe i prefer rox w the dead brother bc their angst potential is huge and i love pain
rosie/alex (love rosie) – made me believe in the childhood best friends to lovers trope, very sick and twisted of them but they’re the loves of my life and the book makes me sob bc it’s all worth it in the end and i just adore them
 27. Top 5 brotps
mario/malaya (code black) – got virtually no solo bro time (from what i vaguely remember from s1) but i just know they’re best friends and they hang out all the time and she totally gave him hell about being whipped on noa. i know all of this is true, i just know it
reese/shaw (person of interest) – snarky bi assassins living my dream life and just being buds, truly elite friendship
troy/abed (community) – platonic but slightly romantic soulmates, constantly searching for the troy to my abed if i’m being honest
tammy/sebastian (ncis:nola) – himbo/lesbian solidarity like they just make me Soft and for a pairing that are all abt the laughs i cry over them too often
paris/rory (gilmore girls) – just girls being friends and never losing contact with each other. genuinely upset that my paris is currently 4 hours away even tho we never went to the same school she’s my oldest and dearest friend and just a total nerd, words truly cannot convey how much they are us and we are them lol. also i attacked her 3 days after we met and she still has a scar from that encounter… good times
 35. Top 5 best moments
the ending of fallen angels (code black s2 finale) makes me sob like i was dehydrated by the end of the episode because i just lost it at the softness of ariel and leanne and the sense of found family that the whole finale had. very fun time for me !
the end scene for community s3 e4 because those idiots dancing around a room gives me so much serotonin it is unreal. i have lost track of the amount of times i’ve watched that scene this year, it’s just so good and wholesome
ummmm i can’t remember the episode because it is late and i am too lazy to google but the orphan black scene where they’re all dancing bc they just dodged a major bullet and i just love it so much bc it makes me Happy. also the song choice just slaps so hard i love it
the scene after beth wins the world championship and we see everyone who supported her lose their minds??? one aspect that wasn’t in the book that i loved so much like the abandoned orphan girl made something of herself and had people who loved and supported her and ugh the love i have for the queen’s gambit is something else
also jatp scene at the end when they realise they can touch each other….. luke and julie holding each other’s faces is something that just means a lot to my touch starved self
