Gwynlain - first "I love you"

Spoken so quietly it's barely a whisper, tumbling from Elain's swollen lips like an accident- or an admission, perhaps. Or a plea. A prayer. She doesn't know, but she's said it anyway.

Morning dew stains the hem of her linen nightgown. The sun is just barely peeking over the top of the ivy covering the crumbling garden wall, the first brush of its warmth a reminder. A warning.

The world will wake soon to witness everything they may want to keep between them for just a little while longer.

But Elain says it anyway, and it flutters there between them, a fragile, hopeful thing. Her hands are shaking, but it's too late to hide them.

Gwyneth's hands are steady when they find purchase at her waist. They're warm and sure as she presses Elain back against the cold, damp ivy. And when her lips brush against the shell of Elain's ear, repeating those three words for only her to hear, there's no tremor to be found.
