Joined @symphony_sonata's DTIYS on Instagram for their Indie Game, Habromania. Based on an Alice in Wonderland thematic. They originally do it with their character Cordelia, their Queen of Hearts yet invite spins. So I did my original character Anastasia (my Queen of Hearts) instead :}

A fact that i think gets lost in a lot of Alice in Wonderland adaptations (ESPECIALLY ones where Alice is a teenager or young adult) is that the reason Alice is treated the way she is throughout the story is because she is a child.

In real life, children are almost never granted an explanation for anything. Any question they have is either given a nonanswer, brushed off and ignored, or met with anger. Children are often believed to be too young to understand things, and so people never try to explain anything to them. Children are also expected to follow any command given to them without complaint, and usually any questioning from a child about a task is seen as being insubordinate.

This is exactly how Alice is treated in Wonderland. No one ever explains anything to her even when she expresses confusion. She is expected to follow every order given even without an explanation as to how or why. This treatment isn't inherent to Wonderland; it's just the average experience of a child.

I personally feel like most adaptaions, in trying to make Wonderland seem stranger or creepier than it is in the original story, often miss this theme. But of course, I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing, as adaptations are their own stories and should be allowed to omit themes present in the original versions in favor of presenting new ideas. I just think it'd be fun to see more Alice in Wonderland adaptations that highlight the absurdity of our society's treatment and expectations of children.

Another amazingly game that references tarot card . . . I sense a pattern in my tastes haha. Jokes aside do check out this creator's work cause not only is their art style so charming, but the story has so many interesting details in it. If you like Alice madness returns you will definitely enjoy this game as well. (It's currently in development but the creator is posting sneakpeaks)

There are certainly no quality works about Alice and her adventures nowadays. What I found is an indie game that uses aesthetics to tell the story. (It's called "Habromania") and if we go back to previous years I also remember that comic that drew Alice's story PERFECTLY with dialogues straight from the books ("The Complete Alice in Wonderland", drawn by Erica Awano and published by Dinamite publishing)

I can’t believe my entire life I believe that lie that Alice in wonderland is a drug trip! Now I’m obsessed with it for being not that, it’s pure fun nonsense and I love that! I also hope to check out that comic you mentioned, I need more wonderland.

To say personally it’s helped me with taking life both seriously and less seriously, and I hope to balance it out like Alice does as she meets these strange situations. It kinda helped me better in my existential dread somewhat, though I’m still going through it, it’s helping me realize that yeah nothing needs to make sense in order to live and enjoy life.

Jes, if you could a new LoZ game be in any other game art style, what would it be? Personally, I would kill for a LoZ game to be in the Paper Mario style or something similar to it, like the game Bug Fables. Idk, just. Imagine an intricate Hyrule Castle diorama that your little paper Link would waddle around in, and think about all the paper based powers you could use. You could like, cut the environment in certain places with the Master Sword, or you know. The paper environment could just be for for the aesthetic☆ but that’s boring. Anyways uh. Idk how to continue or end this thought so I hope you have a great rest of your day!

hmmmmmm… this is such a hard question because my dyslexic ass completely missed “any other GAME art style” and my first thought was how badly I want OOT in a studio ghibli style

and then I realized i misread it and my SECOND thought was how much I’d like a hyper realistic looking one, with graphics like re4r or bg3, and now I’m thinking well are those really art styles?

So final answer thats ALSO not really an answer: Habromania. I’m obsessed with the art style and I know the game hasn’t come out yet and probably will not for a while but it’s been very cool watching it all come together and I very much fuck with the aesthetic. I really want a little more of a spooky LoZ game in a way, not like… dark (?), but one that has mystery and the energy of a cold foggy October morning if that makes any sense at all (i am exhausted and i can’t think straight to save my life rn lmao my bad)

Okay gang I’m in a pickle I fear.

Two things:

A. I’m trying to figure out what job to give the queen of hearts’ dad to justify him having an axe, or if I even have to justify it.

B. I’m really worried that by giving her an axe (I’m basing this part of the story off of Lizzie Borden’s case) it will seem like I’m copying off of Habromania, which I am trying VERY hard to make my game unique from.
