Silly headcanon time: how the counselors like their eggs cooked (assuming all of them eat eggs).

Ryan: doesn't like runny yolk, so any hard-cooked egg will do (hard-boiled, over-hard fried, hard scrambled). Scrambled eggs was one of the first things he learned how to cook and he made them for Sarah a lot growing up, so they're a beloved favorite.

Emma: was obsessed with eggs benedict for a while and learned to poach eggs specifically to make that dish. Now enjoys avocado toast with poached eggs on top whenever she can. Her breakfast TikToks put the rest of the fyp to shame.

Nick: knows how to cook eggs all kinds of ways and is usually the one making them for breakfast in group sleepovers; has everyone's preferences down pat. Enjoys egg in all its forms but prefers the classic sunnyside up egg; enjoys dipping bread and any other foods into the yolk. Usually has them when he feels like having a fancy breakfast.

Laura: also grossed out by runny yolk. I see her as likely to be vegan or vegetarian so they're probably not even part of her diet. Before she quit animal products she would have hard boiled eggs as mid-day snacks because they don't need much attention to make.

Jacob: American breakfast enthusiast, enjoys them soft scrambled or fried. Has been known to pour maple syrup over scrambled eggs and dip pancakes into the yolk on fried ones. Kaitlyn shames him for it every single time.

Abi: doesn't have a preference but the really cooked-through, dried yolk grosses her out a little. Usually has hers the same way the person she's eating with has them (feels like a fancy lady when she has brunch with Emma)

Dylan: wants to cook eggs the proper way but 1) he sucks at cooking in general and 2) gets distracted and then realizes his eggs are burning because of the smell. Bought himself the little container things to cook them in the microwave. Nick and Ryan were disgusted and apalled, damn bitch you live like this?

Kaitlyn: soft boil queen. Enjoys adding them into any random meal because it reminds of how her grandma included them in noodles and soup. Has them fried with breakfast and will go to town on them with Jacob.

Max: got used to not eating eggs because of Laura, but absolutely adores devilled eggs. His parents made them all the time growing up for birthdays and gatherings. He has his great aunt's recipe and makes a big batch for dinner parties with friends.

What type of music would the counselors listen to?

I know some of my mutuals have answered this question before and I'm sure my headcanons will be influenced by theirs, AND I'm also significantly older than the counselors so they're probably listening to gen z stuff my late millennial ass doesn't even know about but here goes nothing!

Laura So much SIØBHAN! Just kidding. Laura feels like two completely different characters in the game so I have a hard time deciding what I think spunky but straight-laced, ‘this is my first cop,’ over-achieving pre-vet student Laura Kearney would listen to vs badass avenging murder spree Laura Kearney (but maybe she always had that inside her). Part of me wants to say, like, 80’s pop (Prince, Blondie, Tiffany, Michael Jackson, Pat Benetar, etc.) and part of me wants to put her in the hard rock/metal zone with Ryan. Maybe she’s a bit of both.

Max I believe it was Addie (@insertlovelyperson) who said Max would listen to country music where women murder their cheating or abusive husbands. That tracks to me. Maybe it's the use of Alma Cogan's version of 'Fly Me to the Moon' in the game, but I also tend to associate him with crooner type singers of the 40's and 50's (Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, Dean Martin, etc), which is what I said he'd choose for karaoke. And because of this fanart I have no choice but to HC him as a major Ariana Grande fan, he's probably the one who chose the music for the drive to camp. So. Max has range.

Abi is the K-Pop/J-Pop stan to me but I know so little about that music beyond the crossover bands like BTS that I can't speak to it a whole lot. I think she'd also like some emo, pop-punk and moodier alt/pop. Avril Lavigne, Paramore, Melanie Martinez, Florence and the Machine, Metric, Lorde, Halsey, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Billie Eilish, Phoebe Bridgers/boygenius, etc. I feel like she's really into female fronted bands for some reason.

Jacob likes pretty much whatever is on the radio. He's a top 40 guy and has no shame about his enjoyment of Ed Sheeran and Justin Beiber, or about ugly crying to Taylor Swift and Coldplay. He rarely listens closely to the actual lyrics (and often gets them humorously wrong), he just goes on vibes. He discovers half the music he listens to via TikTok (not that there's anything wrong with that).

Emma is a theater kid through and through and loves broadway musicals. She goes through phases with each popular one. She's had a Waitress phase, a Mamma Mia phase, a Wicked phase, and a Hamilton phase, of course, and now she's into Mean Girls, Heathers, and Hadestown. Beyond that, I think she'd be a dedicated Swiftie, big Adele fan, and a lover of Britney Spears's entire body of work from the 90's through today.

Nick probably listens to stoner bro music. Like jam bands and psychedelic rock and stuff. He probably likes Dave Matthews Band and the Grateful Dead/Dark Star Orchestra, Sublime, Widespread Panic, Tame Impala, and O.A.R. Googling jam bands to remind myself which ones exist led me to the knowledge that there's an Australian psychedelic rock band called King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard and that name is so bonkers that I've decided without listening to more than a few bars that it has to be Nick's favorite band.

Ryan is a little bit emo and a little bit goth and a little bit old school punk. He needs music that's loud and moody to help sort out his feelings about life and drown out all the excess noise inside his head. He's into metal, the harder side of emo/screamo, goth rock, hard rock, punk, and post-punk. He definitely listens to Nightwish, GOJIRA, Mastodon, Lacuna Coil, Linkin Park, Rage Against the Machine, Bauhaus, Joy Division, Nine Inch Nails, Deftones, Thursday, Alkaline Trio, My Chemical Romance, AFI, Bad Religion, Black Flag, Minor Threat, The Misfits, Ramones, etc. He doesn't hate more accessible pop and rock music, but the closest he gets to choosing it for himself is probably something like The Cure or The Smashing Pumpkins or Depeche Mode, maybe some of the creepier Weeknd songs and Muse tracks too heavy to go on the Twilight soundtracks. He and Abi listen to Babymetal together.

Kaitlyn classic rock and 90's alternative. This girl likes the Stones more than the Beatles, though she'll listen to both. Led Zeppelin, Joan Jett, Pink Floyd, The Doors, Black Sabbath, the occasional hair band. She especially loves the 90's girl rockers like Alanis Morisette, Garbage, Hole, Veruca Salt, and No Doubt (Kaitlyn can't believe Gwen Stefani is married to pop-country dork Blake Shelton who sings that song about being your honey bee, because Gwen used to be so cool [I'm definitely not projecting]). I feel like she'd also love Bikini Kill and Sleater Kinney, Le Tigre, and The Donnas.

Dylan is the Music Guy ™ (and my personal bias/url namesake), so I've admittedly thought about his musical tastes more than most of the others'. The official Quarry website mentions his 'deep musical knowledge' and I imagine he has pretty broad views on what constitutes good music. He's got kind of a vintage vibe to him, maybe it's the reproduction band shirt from 1988, or the fact that he's into analog technology, or both, but I've noticed he's often depicted playing Queen or Bowie or something of that era in fics, which I think is realistic. This kid goes to the used record store and just buys whatever looks cool.

Fun Fact: According to the datamine, the chapters originally had literary or musical quotes at the beginning of each, and Chapter 5: White Noise (the radio hut chapter) was originally headed by the opening lyrics from Queen's 'Radio Ga Ga':

He's also the only character we see play music in canon, so we know he likes... songs from random compilation albums with inexpensive royalties. XD Just kidding, but these are the diegetic (in-universe) songs we get to hear from Dylan's playlist at the bonfire party:

All pop music of varying subtypes, so we know he appreciates a well-crafted pop song. I honestly am a fan of all of these. I think Dylan genuinely listens to everything but he seems like the type to especially like alt and indie pop, classic rock, garage rock, a bit of the more melodic side of punk, emo, and pop-punk, new wave, synth pop, electronic, and a little bit of hip hop that’s sufficiently nerdy white boy friendly (probably Beastie Boys, Run the Jewels, Post Malone, emo rap like Blackbear, etc). I also tend to gravitate towards early-mid aughts indie for him, like MGMT, Arctic Monkeys, The Strokes, OK Go, LCD Soundsystem, etc. Just seems to match his vibe. I think he'd really like BØRNS, Hozier, COIN, Mitski, and K.Flay and probably have a fair amount of overlap with Ryan's more melodic picks (MCR, Muse, The Cure, etc). Dylan probably hates Morrissey but begrudgingly loves The Smiths and definitely cranks up The Killers in his car. He’s also listening to bands right now that you’ve never heard of but will be huge in a couple years. He can probably tell you the difference between subgenres like chillwave, dream pop, and shoegaze but don’t ask me about it because I have no fucking clue.

Since we’re on the subject, here’s my absurdly long and ever-growing Rylan/Radioheads playlist because I have a problem.

And my Sweet Summer Jams playlist, that’s just a bunch of random songs I think would be clean enough to play at a summer camp as long as the kids/your boss don’t ask too many questions.

Ok I see "Vet Laura" and raise you "Unhinged wildlife rehab centre" Laura.

She's obviously very well educated and knows what she's talking about, but also looking after 40+ animals primarily by herself has driven her a just a little crazy.

Every animal has a name ranging from "Susan" to "Huckleberry Finn" to "Queen Elizabeth the third" and "Markiplier".

She runs a rescue so she's used to animals not liking her at first but it doesn't stop her from naming them something ridiculous and loving them unconditionally.

She owns a giant bird like an ostrich or a rhea that has a personal vendetta against her, but she loves it and also needs to warn any of her guests about it because it will spontaneously attack.

She makes videos that vary between being genuinely informative and her squaring up with this giant, aggressive bird.

She walks around with animals just chilling on her shoulder while she does chores.

Laura: My wife has given birth

Max: That's a pig

Laura: Her name is Delilah and those are our children

Max loves it. There's a goose that has a crush on him that Laura side-eyes in her videos, muttering that it's trying to steal her man

Max will come home and she'll be sitting on the couch with a goat and it is a normal occurrence

may i talk a bit about how i like to interpret Travis as a gay man

I just think it would sorta make sense. He was raised in a redneck southern family, where his younger brother who's a father and who had a wife is definitely the favorite child. So this already shows the values of the Hacketts pretty well, they are traditional as hell and this whole "family is the most important" thing.

And Travis is the black sheep of the family. From the scene with Constance, particularly Travis' reaction I believe it was *not* the first time she has gone off at him like that, seeing how he just basically stands there and takes it, like he's used to this. We don't know much about their life before the curse etc, but assuming she has treated him like this for a longer while, him being gay and therefore 'against the traditional family archetype' could be a possible reason for this treatment.

I don't wanna just say "he's single" as an argument because there are many reasons for people to be single, but I just wanna say that looking through this lense at it would also make sense. Once again, given his family background, it would make sense if he just gave up on romance altogether because he'd know his family would never accept it. And family is the most important.

And I also think he absolutely would not come out to them, especially Constance, but she *could* catch on at some point, which would build the distance we see between Travis and the rest of the Hacketts during the game. He still loves them, he covers for them and tries his best to fix their problems - but at the same time it looks like he's not as close with his family as in the past.

(I'd like to think Chris could actually be accepting of Travis if he ever did come out, seeing how he spends the most time with the youth where being LGBTQ+ is more normalized, so he definitely witnessed some non-heteronormative romance among the youngsters. Maybe even Ryan could be the one to come out to him, or at least talk about his sexuality as he's trying to figure himself out, given that Chris is a father figure to him. And from the small amount of knowledge we have, a pretty good one at that. But at the same time I do think Travis would be the type to keep this to himself, and just bottle it up alone rather than vocalizing the internal struggle about being different.)

Another thing. How many southern redneck cishet 56y/o men have the term "bestie" in their vocabulary.

I am in no way saying he's implied to be gay in the game, nothing of this sort, all I mean is that it's a perspective I kinda enjoy. For the additional angst or something, as if he doesn't have enough problems in his life.

I also enjoy calling Laura and Max lesbians so, I do enjoy joking about Laura and Travis forming a wlw+mlm solidarity. 💪

Can I get your werewolf!Travis headcanons? 👀

That's a good question. I honestly don't have too many headcanons for werewolf!Travis, only because he's not really my cup of tea. I think having Travis in werewolf form...well, it depends on how he's written (in fics). Very rarely does he appeal to me.

However, I will say these are the headcanons I do have for him:

When he turns, he's furry rather than hairless like the wolves in the game. I imagine Travis to be a dark brown wolf, or even all black, with streaks of gray in his fur

He's a lean, muscular wolf. He has a strength to him, even if he doesn't look it

I feel like he'd have alpha male tendencies in that he's the oldest Hackett (not counting his parents), and so if the Hacketts were all wolves and a pack, he'd be the leader/in charge

However, I also feel like Travis is more of a lone wolf. He doesn't want to be around others and prefers to keep to the shadows, avoiding everyone and everything

And, if he were with Laura (whether she was a wolf or not), I'd imagine him to be ultra-protective of her, doing everything in his power to keep her safe, even if it meant being more aggressive towards others while in his wolf form (growling/baring teeth, possibly attacking if things escalated)

Stoner Nick agenda!!

I think Dylan indulges in the occasional edible but isn’t a big smoker. He tried to smoke up with Nick a time or two but weed makes him cough like crazy. Nick for sure has a pipe/bong with him at camp and has dabbled in psychedelics. He really wants to do peyote because he thinks the visions will help him figure his life plan out.

(I think people assume Dylan is a stoner because he’s got that laid back goofball vibe—but that’s at least partially his mask/persona—and Miles clearly is one lol)

Do you have any headcanons for how the hacketteers would deal with being sick? Maybe how often they get sick, what type of illnesses they are prone to, etc….

Way behind on Quarry asks but I am home sick with some kind of crud right now so what better time to answer this one?!

Emma - Emma is a people person and always on the go, so she's exposed to a lot of germs. I feel like she'd be the one to get into juicing and making smoothies for immune health and the 'sexy' supplements like Moon Juice or whatever Gwyneth Paltrow is selling (but nobody’s sure if she really buys into them or if she’s just trying to get a sponsorship). Emma has a system for any kind of normal illness that doesn't completely knock her on her ass and that is to take a very hot bath with peppermint and eucalyptus bath salts and drink a hot toddy while she's in there. (Just the one, she doesn't want to drown!)

Jacob - This guy gets the dreaded Man Cold and is the sickest person who has ever lived. He doesn't get sick often because he's fairly health conscious, but he's absolutely pathetic and mopey about it when he does. He wants to be babied because his perfect male specimen of a body and extensive supplement regimen have betrayed him. He hates going to the doctor and puts it off until someone makes him go. Kaitlyn brings him soup and yells at him (affectionately) to stop being pathetic. He drinks a ton of Gatorade when he's sick (always Cool Blue flavor).

Kaitlyn - Look, Kaitlyn's Asian and her family was wearing masks during cold and flu season long before it was cool. She doesn't totally buy into the traditional Chinese medicine stuff but she does believe in the healing power of food that's spicy as fuck, especially if she's having sinus issues. She's also a fan of long, hot baths or showers, chicken soup with a ton of garlic, drinking a bunch of tea with lemon and ginger, the sauna at the gym, exercising even if she doesn't feel like it, hot yoga, and acupuncture. If that doesn't knock it out, she's not too stubborn to go to the doctor, people like that (who have insurance but don’t use it) drive her crazy (Jacob!).

Abi - If something is going around, Abi just knows she's going to get it. She’s a worrier and a bit of a catastrophizer when she does get sick. She's a hand sanitizer addict, she's got those cute sparkly holders from Bath & Body Works (but she uses the Halloween ones all year). She's good about letting herself take time to rest and get her strength back after an illness though. She likes to catch up on trash TV while she's recuperating. She also gets allergy shots because her environmental allergies are insane. She uses a neti pot or saline spray often to ward off sinus infections.

Ryan - Our stoic boy is stoic. Ryan takes all the necessary precautions to not get sick, he's kind of an obsessive hand-washer for sensory reasons anyway, but when he does, he follows doctors' recommendations to the letter and rarely complains. He will typically muddle through like normal if he's not got something contagious, but if he has to take time off work or school, he doesn't really talk about it or look to be cared for, just holes up in his room alone trying to not spread it around--he is very conscientious. Ryan gets the occasional migraine and that's one thing he can't really muddle through. He has to be in a quiet, dark room to recover, with an ice pack on his head, a caffeinated beverage, and a guided meditation podcast.

Dylan - People love to make our boy a damsel in distress because he's a cute gay string bean that bad things happen to, but Dylan is pretty tough in the game (like, unrealistically tough at times). I tend to consider his amputee arc as main canon, so given the assumption that he doesn't die of sepsis after surviving werewolves, he's got to have a pretty robust immune system and probably doesn't get sick that often. He does have that whole under-react/overreact thing going on though (the air freshener lol), so I imagine that when he does get sick, he either just carries on until he physically can't anymore (he'd wear a mask and get vaccinated and all that good stuff, he's a scientist after all, but he’s bad about making sure he gets rest) OR he starts Googling his symptoms and getting paranoid, convinced he has some rare incurable disease (he doesn't). He also doesn't really like to slow down and let people take care of him but when they really insist, he not-so-secretly loves the attention, from his mom, his boyfriend, his roommate/bestie, whoever.

Nick - Nick turns into a slimy wet sex pest whenever he gets sick. No, I’m kidding. I think it’d be funny/ironic/unfortunate if chef Nick had kind of a sensitive digestive system. He will eat anything, especially if Jacob is eating it. But, alas, Jacob has an iron stomach and our poor Nicholas does not. So he gets a lot of tummy troubles from doing things like eating 20 year old snacks or trying to go head to head with Jacob and Kaitlyn in a spicy ramen challenge. Nick gets sick a regular amount with stuff like head colds and is just kind of middle of the road as far as how he handles it. He does however have a habit of making up untrue facts about Australia that he tells his coworkers and campers when no one has the internet available to fact check him and one of them is that a steaming mug of hot pickle juice is a favorite folk remedy for colds there.

Max - he doesn’t get sick often but he is highly accident-prone. Like, so accident-prone that his family has started calling them ‘Maxidents’ when he has a major mishap. He routinely falls off ladders, gets attacked by migratory waterfowl, trips while trying to carry more groceries than he should into the apartment, etc. Max is luckily a very good patient because he has a lot of practice. He also has a lot of ice packs in the freezer at all times.

Laura - she gets onto Max about being careful, getting enough sleep, eating healthy, etc, but Laura is a do as I say, not as I do kinda gal. She does try to be healthy and active but she’s really busy (busier than ever post-canon because she thinks she can outrun trauma if she never slows down long enough to think about it). When Laura gets sick she gets Leslie Knope sick.

Max has to put her in bed and take care of her because she will not admit she needs it until she is practically on death’s door.

Kaylee Hackett headcanons

18 years old during game events. 12 years old at the time of the Harum Scarum fire (because the Hackett timeline makes no sense, so we make our own)

As the youngest and only girl in her family, as well as being raised in a tiny rural town, Kaylee is quite naive and sheltered.

She is extremely well-meaning and compassionate, but assumes that most people are the same way. So surely people would understand her, um, condition if she could just explain, right?

She shares that denseness with Ryan (our beloved emo himbo), who she considers her best friend. She befriended him through Caleb back when they were kids, but nowadays Kaylee is the one that keeps in touch the most, mostly through email, because it's the next best thing to mailing letters, but free.  

Her family has gone to great lengths to hide the literal skeletons in their closet (or bodies in the lake) from her. They don't realize that Kaylee has also learned to keep secrets.

Dreams of going to college in New York to study social work and is frantically applying to colleges. However, her grades suffered in highschool due to coping with being a werewolf and her family's precarious financial situation, so that gets in the way of her getting accepted into many places. The Hacketts also can't afford and don't want her to move too far away given her condition.

With the help of Travis, she's been allowed to attend community college at a nearby town.

Travis is her favorite relative besides Gammy Constance. Kaylee often tries to defend him when the rest of the family gives him shit and Travis vouches for Kaylee to be independent within reason. She has the spare key to his apartment and sometimes crashes there.

Constance always wanted a daughter, so to have a granddaughter was a blessing for her. Since Kaylee's mother Amelia died due to complications after her birth, Constance became both grandmother and mother to Kaylee. She is the only family member that can openly disagree with Constance and not get a verbal (or physical) smackdown.

Works at North Kill Library during the off season and spends her summers as an unpaid worker for her father’s summer camp. She's also the go-to for babysitting and other odd jobs around town.

She hates working at camp. She's that coworker who has been at the company for way too long and is one minor inconvenience away from having a mental breakdown. For her father and the kids, she puts on a happy face, but her brother and the counselors know her to be in a terrible mood all day every day.

At Hackett's Quarry, she and Caleb are an extra set of hands helping out whenever needed. Kaylee is also tasked with keeping the camp stocked and making supply runs. She often worked closely with Nick because of this, and would ask him a lot about what Australia is like.

Her crankiness at camp is also partly because she's going through nicotine withdrawals. Kaylee has been smoking since she was 16, when she found her brother's cigarettes, but avoids smoking at camp because if caught, she would never hear the end of it from her dad—especially because the only people that know about her smoking are Travis, Caleb and Ryan.

Uses reading as escapism and has read every fiction novel in North Kill Library. Go ahead, ask her for trashy romance recs. She'll hook you up with the good stuff.

Listens to female country artist and 90s female rock. It helps her channel the deep dissatisfaction and resentment she feels. Stans Courtney Love.

Dylan hating Scrappy-Doo is so canon to me. I feel like he’d be the one to tell everyone Shaggy and Scooby’s real names. I also think he’d be in these micro fandoms for some obscure bands where everyone knows each other. He also read Heartstopper as soon as it started and won’t admit that he’s a total sap about it.

Kaitlyn and Jacob watched ATLA together. They took quizzes to find out which characters they were. Kaitlyn obviously got Toph and was psyched. Jacob wanted to be Zuko but got Sokka because of course he did. (Imagine Jacob drinking the psychedelic cactus juice lololol)

I think Abi would play Animal Crossing, one of y’all said she’d be horrified when Emma committed hate crimes against the characters she didn’t like to make them move off her island and that’s 100% canon to me now!

right off the bat, Jacob dearest doesn't strike me as the fandom type, & Laura's prolly so busy that she wouldn't have time even if she wanted to. Jacob prolly has a reddit account tho, so take that as you will

Abi definitely has a tumblr, prolly post some of her art online & she definitely participates in fandoms - she's a bit more courageous behind a screen. 90% sure she reads fanfiction. i imagine she would be in fandoms like The Owl House & Stardew Valley & Legend of Zelda, but also stuff like Supernatural & old horror movies like the original Jeepers Creepers & The Exorcist. & also Scooby-Doo

Ryan obviously spends time in the fandom space of the Bizarre Yet Bonifide podcast & he prolly hangs out on the fanpages, swapping theories & answering questions. he's just vibing in the fandom with all his knowledge & special interest. he also like classic/old movies & he & Abi brainrot together sometimes about classic horror (& she makes him watch Scooby-Doo with her)

Emma lurks in her own fan spaces lmao. i believe wholeheartedly that she LOVES shows like Bridgerton & she posts about it as soon as anything new comes out. she also follows fashion week & the Emmys every year, & liveposts about it the entire time. her fans recommend her romance/romcom movies & sometimes she'll host a movie night on her stream to review it, other times she'll just post about it. most of the time, the fandom comes to her (when Abi visits & agrees to be on camera, they stream a movie night & watch scooby-do)

Nick is so bizarre he has a twitter account that he barely remembers & hasn't even finished fully setting it up yet & he doesn't check his notifications, but almost every time he posts something, ppl go crazy trying to figure out what the fuck he's talking about. so he kind of has his own little "fanbase", if you could call it that

Dylan's for sure a shitposter, but he also loves digging into the lore & secrets - especially of video games. he's a total Dr. Who nerd & he's prolly read the Sherlock Holmes novels. he cracks all that shit open like a cold one with all the other fans online & mentally red-strings everything he thinks about. Abi tells Ryan to make him watch Scooby-Doo, unaware that Dylan has seen all the cartoons & movies, & posts Scrappy-Doo hate

Kaitlyn & Max i feel like are both the type not to interact much online, also they do lurk from time to time. Kaitlyn's more likely to jump in if she sees someone being blatantly & snobbily wrong about something she knows intimately. Max tends to just reblog fanart he likes. i think Kaitlyn loves horror movies - Scream, Halloween, Final Destination, etc - & she throws popcorn at the screen when someone makes a dumb choice then goes to find complaints about the dumb logic online so she can agree with them. Emma forces her to watch Bridgerton, which she reluctantly loves

Max likes romcoms & has a soft spot for cartoons like Steven Universe, but he also gets into some crime dramas like Criminal Minds bc Laura likes them. a lot of art he reblogs online is pixel art, it's his favorite, but 80% of the time, anything with a nice color palette will get him. he also likes Scooby-Doo

These are correct. I was just thinking about shoe brand loyal Dylan and Ryan last night.

Dylan cannot stand to wear enclosed shoes without socks. So he has the little no show socks on under his Vans. The socks are Vans branded also.

Dylan constantly makes jokes about his absent limb, most commonly used towards Kait and Ryan but it will usually go something like this. “Hey, lend me a hand, would ya?” Whoever he says this to usually stares at him in horror as he bursts out laughing

Ryan and Dylan watch Bojack Horseman together, Ryan's favourite character is Todd and Dylan's favourite is Mr. Peanutbutter.

Kaitlyn is the only daughter and has at least 3 brothers.

Post-canon, Max and Dylan get along really well.

Anytime Nick says something that really brings out his accent, everyone will mock him by repeating it for at least 3 minutes.

Ryan is autistic, I don't think I need to explain myself.

Ryan always has either black or cherry red nail polish on.

At a sleepover with the whole gang, Jacob tried to wear eyeliner on his waterline but poked himself in the eye and looked like he was crying (he was a little bit) for the next hour.

Dylan wears glasses in his personal life, though he wore contacts for camp trying to stay in line with the whole ‘blasè’ Dylan thing.

Ryan is in a band, he plays guitar, and right before camp Dylan and Kait (i hc that they knew eachother from the year before) went to a gig that they opened for and they didn’t even notice until Ryan was talking about it months later.

random thoughts on shepard in his training days in the alliance, pre mass effect 1:

shepard is incredibly touch averse especially in his younger years... and i think the first and only time he ever got a haircut on base, it fucked him up. plus the px barber wasn't used to dealing with biotics either and to dealing with the static shock. so you ended up with one very freaked out barber and one very cut up and slightly shaken shepard

plus, going every week to get his hair cut and leaving nicked and a little mentally disturbed, and having to pay??? no thank u morons.... he modified his omni-tool fabricator so he can just shear it off on his own... it doesn't look Great but he's all right at it :)

and ofc he made credits off of that. he's pretty resourceful and i think decent at modifying omni-tools — by no means professional, and sometimes if he goes too crazy, the result can be dangerous (which was not necessarily a bad thing in days with the reds..... sometimes you Want something to catch on fire or to blow up). but he gets it done.

he's probably done all sorts of modifications for fellow recruits, for a few credits ofc, and has gotten in trouble for it ... probably a handful of times. i'm sure omni-tools are very standard and everyone's bound to have one, but they probably have standards on omni-tools that recruits are allowed to have. or limits on how Much said omni-tools can fabricate... im sure that shepard Will find a way to get fabricators into a regulated omni-tool ... and that one of his fucked up little creations probably sparked and caused a fire in the barracks at some point... maybe multiple points. (where there is yishai shepard. there is going to be a fire. or something that he's fucked up that Will cause a fire.)

in general, he got in a Lot of trouble during training and had to clean his act up big time. he's just got a penchant for causing shit (or rather. he sees an opportunity to make credits or to gain favours. he Will take said opportunity). it was very difficult fresh out of the reds to get clean. he went cold turkey from red sand/minagen, but basically just switched to heavy drinking, though there were times he nearly relapsed. nearly got kicked out for misconduct a few times, and he did not get along well with anyone — being very antisocial, extremely hard to read, coming in with a history like his, and having very powerful biotic abilities honed to destroy. and rumours of his gang affiliation and about what he was doing for the Reds spread around and made things even more difficult. the old tattoos (not things officially affiliated with the reds until years later, because the reds were still kinda small time/covert/regional) didn't help.

for these reasons and others, i think he has a really nasty history with higher ups, NCOs on power trips, people who were wary of him and sought to keep him under control. not all of them sucked, but the ones who did left lasting impressions, and shepard's attitude (aka just. the way he is) did not help. there were definitely people that didn't fuck with him and that wanted to see him fail.

i think that maybe anderson first came across him in these.. very Trying first couple of years in training. he saw a struggling young man (barely a young man tbh, shepard was in a difficult spot where he was forced to grow to survive and deal with Horrors, but that's!! still a kid!!!). someone who needed a little help and a chance to grow. he probably talked with some people and got future opportunities for shepard — so long as shepard got his shit together — and put him in contact with resources and programs for his personal shit. anderson didn't do a lot of this directly, but he did check in on shepard time to time, and of course higher ups giving him counsel would mention anderson's involvement. and when shepard was ready for it, got through advanced & biotic training, anderson recommended him personally for n7 training... cemented himself in shepard's life as a mentor when there were very few people who filled that role for shepard. shepard doesn't know anderson well, but he is deeply loyal to anderson and attributes his career to anderson seeing him and being willing to give a fucked up kid another chance.
