Episode 237 - Hot-Blooded Rainbow Girls! (revamped)

This post was released a few weeks ago in Patreon, as a reward for those that are supporting Paradise Hamsubs. This episode was originally subbed on June 14th 2011. This is the first of June's revamps, as Bo won the spotlight poll! This time, the changes are minor. We improved the raw a little, and fixed a bunch of timing and grammar mistakes, but from the most recent revamps this one has the less changes.Hopefully we'll chip down a few more revamps before year's end, but we can't make any promises as Xmas season is around the corner, stay tuned! I’m gonna put it out there because my brain cannot contain my excitement for this idea.

First, let me explain.

When I was around…what…6? I was gifted my first ever Gameboy Advance. I only had four games. Hamtaro Ham-Ham Heartbreak (never found all of the ham chats lol), Sonic Advanced (only ever beat the game as Tails because his flying allowed me to swim out of the water when I was drowning), Super Mario World Advanced, and a copy of Super Mario Bros 3 Advanced (gifted to me the day it came out. Never beat it because I kept dying to the sun on world 2 and then lost the copy)

Ok ok. This was my only source of Mario content at the time besides Mario 64, Sunshine, and Mario Party, so 6 year old me thought the “Bros” in the title meant like “friends”. You know? Like “This is my bro!” So little Jell-O here thought Mario and Luigi were friends, not brothers.

But Jell-O, you might ask. They look the same! Surely you weren’t that dumb? You underestimate my stupidity. But at the same time it made sense as to why I thought they weren’t brothers? Peach and Daisy also looked similar to me as a kid, and they weren’t related. So my confusion was justified!

So as a Hispanic child who was bilingual, when I first heard Mario say “Mama Mia,” I concluded that he was Mexican since that phrase also works in Spanish (fun fact, the direct translation of Mama Mia is “Mother of mine”). I should have taken the hint that they were blood related when I also heard Luigi say the same thing every time he died, but my dumb ass was so convinced that they weren’t related that I assume he was Irish because he was GREEN CNLKDWLKCWSNPKSDNKP. Somehow I knew what Ireland was, but not Italy 💀.

With all of this in mind, I wanna make a roommates AU where Mario and Luigi are NOT brothers. Mario is Mexican with a little bit of a potty mouth and Luigi is a superstitious Irishmen who is weary of mushrooms and ghosts (tbh, not that different from canon Luigi)

Just picture a scenario where they both try to gift each other flags of their respective countries, but they confuse both flags for the Italian Flag 😭

Did you know that the anime series Hamtaro has a set of hamsters that parody the Tokyo Mew Mew girls? With the exception of their leader, Prince Bo, all of them are based off of Ichigo and her friends. There’s Rosie, who’s based off of Ichigo herself, Ivy, who’s based off of Retasu, and Daisy, who’s based off of Bu-Ling. The Hamtaro anime was dubbed by the Vancouver-based Ocean Team, which included the actors from Canadian shows like Ed, Edd, n Eddy. They basically created my childhood.

I barely remember Hamtaro myself, mostly the seed-eating noise~

January 1st, Happy Birthday Daisy!

Daisy is a member of the Rainbow Girls and one of Prince Bo's closest friends, or bodyguards, or “fan club members”, whichever she prefers to title herself. She always tags along with two friends, Ivy and Rosy, and judging by her placement in the Rainbow Girls pyramid stack, she seems to be the leader.

She was first introduced on the video game Hamtaro: Ham-Ham Games, but was also introduced in the accompanying Ham-Ham Games OVA. 

Daisy always wears a yellow suit, complemented with gloves and cape, matching her yellow hair. This is one of the few hamsters in the whole series that has “human-like” hair instead of just fur marks. As her friends and Prince Bo, she also owns a pair of wings (they are pink butterfly wings, not like Bo's ladybug wings) and her cheeks are a huge pink circle, which implies they all are from the same “species”, like the Djungarians.

Daisy is a slightly feminine character whose full development circles around doing her best to be the number 1 aid of Prince Bo. This makes her very reliable and mature -to a certain point- and pinpoint her as the unofficial leader of the Rainbow Girls.

The very fact that her birthday is the 1st of January shows that much interest in being the number one. This is a running trend with the Rainbow Girls as they all have the number one exclusively as their birthdays with Ivy being January 11th and Rosy being November 1st.

Daisy's Japanese name is Pretty, which plays along with her friend's names, but we will show that on their respective birthdays. In the dub of Ham-Ham Games, she and the other Rainbow Girls drops colors like expletives. 

Relationships

Daisy is madly in love with Prince Bo. She aims to please him and bathe him with love and respect, perhaps aiming to be his Queen someday. She will take any order from him and fulfill it to her best effort, sometimes even going too far as to impress him.

She is also quite close to her friends, Ivy and Rosy, although sometimes they fight over their love for Bo. But they can show a high degree of cooperation with each other which is worth mentioning.

OVA 4 – Ham-Ham Games

Prince Bo says that after a long 8686 Ham-Ham years that it is time to start the new Ham-Ham Games at Hamcropolis and that someone has to carry the flame... and they think it is their duty! But Bo tell them that he has already give that task to someone else. Their real task is something else, but they think they're most fitting for that role and scamper off before Bo can tell them! After that, they try their best to take the flame from the Ham-Hams, causing a lot of trouble!

Episode 237 – Thick Rainbow Girls!

The Rainbow Girls are tasked with a very special mission by Bo. However, they lost the item they were supposed to deliver and start fighting and fooling around, so the Ham-Hams have to help! Will they be able to finish their mission?

Daisy also appears in the Ham-Ham Games video game as one of the members of the Rainbow Team, which is the hardest CPU setting. But that is all her appearances!

We wish her a Happy Birthday, and root for her to be number 1!
