There's something about this scene of Will looking at Hannibal as a young man in hindsight.

will and abigail at the norman chapel talking about god:

and then, after discovering that will is in italy, hannibal leaves the heart pierced with three swords (the three of swords) at the norman chapel. it represents pain, sorrow, heartbreak (“he left us his broken heart”).

finally, will meets the italian investigator, who tells him that the priest of norman’s chapel have been seeing will visiting there;

“Investigator: The priest at the Cappella dei Normanni said you have been spending a lot of time there.

Will: I've been praying.

Investigator: There is some comfort in prayer. It leaves you with the distinct feeling you're not alone.”

after, again at the chapel, will says that he does, indeed, feels closer to hannibal there.

so… like…!!!!! they make this weird/twisted comparison between god and hannibal and how will feels about both of them…

it’s just so intense.

ohh, and I forgot to add the fact that abigail was in fact will’s hallucination… which means that actually will was questioning himself if *he* saw hannibal as god.
