May 15th was my cousin's birthday and I made her this composition with the Madrigal sisters! :33 💙

It was very complicated, I had never done a drawing like this so I'm satisfied however it turned out! 😅 Plus I love Encanto so it was fun to draw the details.

I followed the references from the cartoon for all the sisters except Isabela, for whom I only looked at the face and then I improvised a bit for the dress, because otherwise it would have been too complicated to do! 😅

Isabela Madrigal was born on August 7, the day of the battle of Boyaca and the month during which the Festival of Flowers is celebrated. 

Dolores’ birthday is August 31, coinciding with the International Day for People of African descent as well as Saint Raymond Nonnatus’ Feast Day, said Saint also being the patron saint of confidentiality. 

Mirabel’s birthday is March 6, the same as Gabriel Garcia Marquez, as an homage to him due to his works being the Encanto staff’s inspiration for magical realism.

Isabela is at her most “chaos gremlin” on her birthday. She doesn’t get out of her pajamas all day, covers random houses in town with flowers, buries specific people in flowers (RIP Mariano), and just has an overall great time

Prompt for our birthday girl - Mira barely managing to leave her room before Isa jumps her and gives her a flower crown to wear on her day 🌻

"Birthday slap!" Isabela shouted and Mirabel ducked, shrieking.

Isabela didn't hit her. Instead, cackling at Mirabel's reaction, she waved her hand and a flower-crown appeared on Mirabel's head.

"Isa, you jerk!" Mirabel growled. Isabela was laughing so hard she was wheezing, leaning against the wall.

Huffing, Mirabel took off the flower crown to look at it, and her jaw dropped.

It was gorgeous. There were blue and purple roses, spiky leaves, little bundles of rosemary. Isabela had even managed to make a pink orchid to resemble a butterfly, in pride of place in the front of the crown.

"Whoa," Mirabel gasped. She was careful as she put the crown back on. "Isa, it's beautiful!"

"I've been experimenting with colours some more," Isabela said proudly. "And the shapes." Her smile softened. "Happy birthday, hermanita."

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ISABELA MADRIGAL

"So, what dress will you be wearing to your birthday party, Isabela?" Abuela asks at breakfast. 

"None." 

Camilo chokes on his coffee. "Whoa Isa! I'm all for your new rebellious phase and all, but you'll give the old folks a heart attack!" 

Isabela rolls her eyes while the others just snicker. "You are such a dork! What I meant is that I won't be wearing a dress. Papa and Mirabel made me a suit. I'll be wearing that." 

Mirabel preens and Agustin bounces in his seat after Julieta gives him a small kiss. 

Not even Alma's raised eyebrow can dampen their good mood. "A suit? You mean… with pants and everything?" 

Isabela shares a grin with her younger sister. "And everything. Yes." Seeing her grandmother's unhappy face, she takes the older woman's hand to give it a squeeze. "I have been wearing dresses every day my whole life. I wanna try something new."

Seeing how happy the birthday girl is, Alma can't help but smile. "Ah well. I'm sure you'll look fabulous. Like always." 

"Don't worry Abuela." Mirabel chimes in. "It's a very nice feminine cut. After tonight every woman of the Encanto will want one!" 

"Well, we'll see." After a second of thought Alma says "Every suit needs a tie. I still have an old one of Pedro's. It's white. Would that work? Would you… would you like to try it?" 

Her grandmother sounds so hesitant and unsure but Isabela feels like she is floating. She buries her head in the old woman's shoulder and she is not crying. Definitely not. 

"I'd love to."
