Knock knock

Mihawk raised his head at the tiny knock, knowing who was on the other side. He sat up from where he was reclined in his bed, nursing a sore head after a long day in brutally hot sun. "Yes?"

A little head peeked inside. Mihawk motioned to the door. "Talon, you know you don't have to knock at my door?"

"I know," the Seraphim child responded as he walked over to Mihawk's bedside. He stood by the nightstand, staring at Mihawk with soft, but concentrating eyes.

Mihawk waited. Talon remained silent, staring. Mihawk just wanted to rest. His voice may have sounded a bit exasperated when he asked, "Do you need something, Talon?"

More silence.

"Talon?"

"I want to tell you something, Dad."

"Yes?"

Talon kept his stare. "I love you."

Mihawk had to blink as the air in his chest felt like it had been knocked out of him. Did he hear correctly? Never had Talon said that phrase before. Mihawk always said a quick "I love you" before bedtime and the cyborg child's response was usually something along the lines of "Okay. Goodnight." Mihawk attested it to Talon's unusual origin and the fact that the child may still be forming complete trust with him.

"Okay. Goodnight," Talon said just the same here as he turned to go.

Mihawk was shaken out of his daze at the movement and he almost jumped out of bed. "Talon! Wait!"

He messily untangled himself from the sheets and scrambled across the mattress to the foot of the bed, his hand reaching out and fingers barely scraping a feather.

Talon turned at the slight tug on his wing. He peered curiously at the man he now called a father who was staring desperately at him.

"Come here!" Mihawk choked, holding his arms out.

Talon obeyed the command and climbed onto the bed with him. Mihawk immediately took him in his grasp and held the child tight to his chest. "I love you too!"

Talon shifted in his hold, sitting comfortably in his lap. He raised a brow at Mihawk. "Is that what you are supposed to say after? The same thing?"

Mihawk leaned his head on the child's. "Only if you want to."

"Oh. Okay then."

Talon smiled and quietly considered this new information. Mihawk's head sunk to Talon's shoulder, and the soft heat from Talon's flame began to soothe his headache.

ueueue with chapter 33 out, I think about how buggy felt like he had to work his ass off in order to prove himself with the Rogers Pirates, and years (YEARS!!!) of him being in this ship, he's only gotten the Love of his Captain, Master Rayleigh, and Shanks. All 14/15 years of living with the crew, and only three people love him for who he is.

And yet, in merely 3 years, Buggy's got the love and respect of a little town off the East Blue, and these people love him for who he is. He's Buggy, a friend, protector, leader, and hero, but they also know him for who he is. Snark and nasty attitude and all, and they still regard him as a part of their town.

I'm happy for Buggy that he's finally getting that love from his community as he deserves, but something about how he finally understood how he's needed makes me sad. Buggy knows that he's about to get another son, and his future son NEEDS him to love him, as he doesn't want another child to grow up chasing for scraps of the love that he needs. Buggy still relates his self-worth to his son. Buggy's still not getting that people love him for who he is, and not because he can do things or because he's supposed to do what is expected of him.

This will be a learning experience for him, but when the author says it's a slow burn angst, oh they totally mean it.

Getting one last Shuggy Valentine’s Day thing in before it’s over over here.

Apprentice era Buggy always loudly proclaiming how Valentines is stupid and useless and Shanks being the kind of person to think it’s sweet. Buggy doesn’t care, it’s not like they actually know anyone they could give chocolates to either. Or so he thought. Because now he’s staring at the heart shaped package in Shanks drawer in confusion. Where did Shanks get this? For WHO did Shanks get this? Is this sinking feeling in his stomach his guilt for constantly snooping around in Shanks belongings finally catching up to him? No. No that can’t be it. In all honesty he’s just annoyed. Yes! Annoyed and DISGUSTED. The idea of Shanks wanting to court anyone makes his skin crawl. What is he THINKING? He’s just doing this to make him mad. That’s JUST what Shanks is like. All, “Oh Buggy look at me giving away random Valentines because I’m so smart and funny and cute.” Blergh! Always one upping him.

He grabs the box in irritation and unwraps it swiftly. Well two can play this game. Couldn’t even come up with a better gift that UNFLASHY son of a bitch. That chocolate is good stuff he has to admit though. Fancy, high class stuff, three whole layers of it and that thing is already as big the brim of Shanks hat. So decadent. Whoever this was for must be really lucky. Really lucky… His stomach turns at the thought. Or maybe it’s just because he just got done eating the pralines from the first layer of the gift that his definitely, very much not a crush got for his mystery valentine. He continues eating out of pure spite. He’ll show him…

And that’s the story of how on the day Shanks finally confessed to Buggy, one day before Valentine’s Day, the latter was sick to his gills because he ate all of the sweets, that Shanks had planned to give to him anyways, in the span of 30 minutes. “Pray tell.” Shanks asks, trying not to laugh at his stupid, horrible friend (his stupid, horrible BOYFRIEND, he’s still so giddy about it) still clutching his stomach and cooped up in bed even after he got done spewing over the railing. “For who did you THINK those where if not you?” Buggy just groans and detaches a hand so he can rub his middlefinger all over Shanks laughing face.

They're so stupid 😭 Don't you love how all of their issues would be solved if they TALKED and COMMUNICATED????????????? But they don't because they're dumbasses. I love tiny Shuggy,, They're so in love and so happy and silly to be together,, Buggy being jealous as if he wasn't the only guy their age in that ship lmao. Idiots. Both of them. They're adorable. Every time they eat chocolate Shanks can't help but remind Buggy what he did-- They'll never forget it but it's kind of sweet.
