@instaingenieria #instaingenieria #bridge #puente #hardanger #hardangerbrua #suspensionbridge #construccion #ingenieria #ingenieriacivil #arquitectura #mecánica #ingenieriamecánica #ingenieriaambiental #ambiental #civil #engineering #architecture #civilengineering #earth #geotecnia #geotechnical #geología #obra #constructor #contratista #inmobiliaria #seguridad #safety #instamood #amazing (at Hardangerbrua) https://www.instagram.com/p/B_z635IFNe2/?igshid=1oi4mdo50cj00

Jon Heilbron—Puma Court (Another Timbre)
Tumblr media
Puma Court by Jon Heilbron
Berlin-based improviser and composer Jon Heilbron caught some attention earlier this year with the release of Pieces for Chord Organs on the Intonema label. Working with cheap, electric instruments, he maximized the variability of their fan-driven reed sonorities for two pieces of rich, quavering harmonics. For this new project, Heilbron again utilizes a strategy of pairing and layering, this time out employing two double basses and two hardanger fiddles. Across two parts, the quartet homes in on the fecund acoustic interactions of string overtones and harmonics played in a reverberant architectural space.
The gestation of the project was a duo performance that Heilbron performed with Norwegian bassist Håkon Thelin in a small church in Oslo. Wanting to build on that, he proposed a project for two basses to Thelin, who suggested the addition of two hardanger fiddle players, musicians who primarily focused on Norwegian folk music but were excited to jump in. In considering the project, Heilbron thought keenly about the space and instrumentation. He noted that the church where the project was recorded is “a small space with a very immediate and resonant acoustic and celebrating and utilizing that room in the most appropriate way was in my mind at all times while composing the piece.” He also thought about the specific timbres and sonorous qualities of fiddles. Hardanger fiddles are traditional Norwegian stringed instruments with two courses of strings, four which are bowed and five sympathetic strings which vibrate underneath. The bridge is also flatter than a traditional violin so multiple strings are often bowed simultaneously.
Low-end groaning bass arco permeates the space playing off of the coursing harmonies and overtones of the hardanger fiddles. There is a performative aspect that comes through as whistling and the clatter of wood sounds made with palette knives fastened to the feet of the performers and strings hitting small drums placed around the space permeate the sound field. Heilbron purposefully charts the density of the string parts which well and recede. The basses and fiddles are massed in shifting harmonic fields, slowly drift apart into transparent layers and then drop to inky silence broken by taps and ghostly whistles. When all four instruments intertwine, the pulsing sound of the strings amass into rich chords that sound almost like a pipe organ. The fiddle parts allude to ghost melodies without ever coalescing into clear lyrical threads. Heilbron notes that “I wanted to provide space for [the fiddle players] within the piece in which to craft their own formations of high pitched counterpoint, which I think they did to really beautiful effect.”
The piece unfolds over two parts, the first 29 minutes long and the second just over 21 minutes long. Both progress slowly and the recording does an admirable job of capturing a sense of the musicians navigating the space. The first has a more open feel to it, with longer expanses of gestural clatter and physical movement in the church. Low level traffic sounds and people walking in the church waft through as well. But the recurring passages of paired double basses provides a sonic ground throughout. “Puma Court Two” starts off with an oscillating buzz of beating string overtones which gradually gathers density. The groaning lower register of the basses are more dominant here, with shorter segments of open space. With less use of gestural sound, wisps of lightly bowed fiddle and hanging nuanced string multiphonics have more focus. Together, the two parts create an enveloping whole that continues to reveal subtlety of detail over repeated listens.

Transcript of the English half of the sign (weird punctuation and all): "This hiking is the only one of its kind to be honored with using Her Majesty, Queen Sonja's title. In the past 20 years, this trail around Hotell Ullensvang has become one of her favorites which she explores either by foot or on skis. The trail begins at Røte ("Velteplassen"), situated 6 km North of Hotel Ullensvang (between Lofthus and Kinsarvik), one is then urged to continue up the tractor road to the Hardangervidda situated 890 m.a.s.l. where the newly marked trail starts. The local Lion's Club has marked this summer route by instructions of HM Queen Sonja. The word Panoramic describes the view in all its glory, overlooking the South Fjord into Odda and the Folgefonna glacier and Eidfjord towards the Hardanger Bridge. The scenery continues to lead your eyes to the Hardangerfjord looking over into Kvanndal and Utne and the small arm of Kinsofjord into the village of Kinsarvik. The total time required is approximately 4 to 6 hours. The descending part of this trail to Lofthus / Hotell Ullensvang is through 616 steps made by local monks which began in the year 1210 and was finished in 1537, now known as The Monk Steps."

Höga Kusten Bridge, Sweden (No. 1)
The High Coast Bridge (Swedish: Högakustenbron), also known as the Veda Bridge (Swedish: Vedabron), is a suspension bridge crossing the mouth of the river Ångermanälven near Veda, on the border between the municipalities of Härnösand and Kramfors in the province of Ångermanland in northern Sweden. The area is often referred to as High Coast, hence its name. The older bridge across the same river is the Sandö Bridge, in a new extension of the European route E4. It is (as of 2016) the third longest suspension bridge in Scandinavia (after the Great Belt Fixed Link in Denmark and Hardanger Bridge in Norway), the fourth longest in Europe, and the 16th longest of the world.
The total length is 1,867 metres (6,125 ft), the span is 1,210 metres (3,970 ft), and the column pillars are 180 metres (591 ft) tall. The max height for ships is 40 metres (131 ft). The bridge was constructed between 1993 and 1997 and was officially opened on 1 December 1997 by king Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden.
The shorter name, the Veda Bridge, refers to the village Veda, which lies 1 km west of the south abutment of the bridge.
