The Hare Krishna Movement: A Spiritual Revolution
The Hare Krishna Movement, formally known as the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), was founded in 1966 by A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. Rooted in ancient Vedic traditions, the movement promotes devotion to Lord Krishna through chanting the Hare Krishna mantra:
"Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare, Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare."
ISKCON emphasizes bhakti yoga (the path of devotion), vegetarianism, meditation, and a simple, ethical lifestyle. Prabhupada spread Krishna consciousness globally, establishing temples, publishing sacred texts like the Bhagavad Gita, and inspiring millions.
Today, ISKCON has centers worldwide, engaging in food relief (Annamrita), cultural festivals, and interfaith dialogue. The movement continues to attract seekers of spiritual fulfillment through its vibrant kirtans (devotional singing), philosophy, and community service.

âThe things I learned from the yogis and mystics of the East are still in me. And I think in the end, no matter what happens with this planet, the only answer really lies within each of us. Now doctors are saying Meditation should be introduced into the National Health. Why do you think we were saying this in 1967? They all said we were a bunch of lunatics, but itâs proven now that we werenât that dumb after all.â - George Harrison, Daily Express, July 29, 1989 âGeorge wanted to support anyone dedicating time or helping people to have better understanding of their purpose of life. And that included Transcendental Meditation, Self-Realization Fellowship, the Hare Krishna movement, you know, anyone who had a desire to find out something of the more spiritual nature, George was really ready to support. I mean, not everything, he didnât tolerate kooks much, you know? But he really â he thought that schools should teach yoga, should teach people how to live. He thought that an education â they werenât teaching children things that really would help them with their internal life.â - Olivia Harrison, NPR, 2004

Tulsi Gabbard, the director of national intelligence, used the same easily cracked password for different online accounts over a period of years, according to leaked records reviewed by WIRED. Following her participation in a Signal group chat in which sensitive details of a military operation were unwittingly shared with a journalist, the revelation raises further questions about the security practices of the US spy chief.
WIRED reviewed Gabbard's passwords using databases of material leaked online created by the open-source intelligence firms District 4 Labs and Constella Intelligence. Gabbard served in Congress from 2013 to 2021, during which time she sat on the Armed Services Committee, its Subcommittee on Intelligence and Special Operations, and the Foreign Affairs Committee, giving her access to sensitive information. Material from breaches shows that during a portion of this period, she used the same password across multiple email addresses and online accounts, in contravention of well-established best practices for online security. (There is no indication that she used the password on government accounts.)
Two collections of breached records published in 2017 (but breached at some previous unknown date), known as âcombolists,â reveal a password that was used for an email account associated with her personal website; that same password, according to a combolist published in 2019, was used with her Gmail account. That same password was used, according to records dating to 2012, for Dropbox and LinkedIn accounts associated with the email address tied to her personal website. According to records dating to 2018 breaches, she also used it on a MyFitnessPal account associated with a me.com email address and an account at HauteLook, a now-defunct ecommerce site then owned by Nordstrom.
Records of these breaches have been available online for years and are accessible in commercial databases.
The password associated with all of the accounts in question includes the word âshraddha,â which appears to have personal significance to Gabbard: Earlier this year, The Wall Street Journal reported that she had been initiated into the Science of Identity Foundation, an offshoot of the Hare Krishna movement into which she was reportedly born and which former members have accused of being a cult. Several former adherents told The Journal that they believe Gabbard received the name âShraddha Dasiâ when she was allegedly received into the group. Gabbardâs deputy chief of staff, Alexa Henning, responded to questions from The Journal at the time by posting them on X and accusing the news media of publicizing âHinduphobic smears and other lies.â
âThe data breaches youâre referring to occurred almost 10 years ago, and the passwords have changed multiple times since,â wrote Olivia Coleman, a Gabbard spokesperson, in response to questions from WIRED. âAs our deputy chief of staff has already made clear on a number of occasions, the DNI has never and doesnât have affiliation with that organization. Attempting to smear the DNI as being in a cult is bigoted behavior.â
âYour bigoted lies and smears of a cabinet member and your story fomenting hinduphobia is noted,â wrote Henning in response to a follow-up question about the probability of Gabbardâs password containing the same name she was reportedly received into Science of Identity Foundation with, given her denials that she has ever been affiliated with the group. âThis was well litigated during her confirmation hearing so congrats on being about 6 months late to this story. Great job.â
Science of Identity did not respond to a request for comment.
Security experts advise people to never use the same password on different accounts precisely because people often do so. If a password for one account is revealed in a breach, hackers will often attempt to use it to access other accounts controlled by the same person. Reusing passwords is especially dangerous with email, because a compromised email account can be used to reset credentials for other accounts or systems.
The Cybersecurity Infrastructure and Security Agency, the top US government authority on digital security, advises members of the public to use a password manager to generate a different password of at least 16 characters, consisting of random strings of mixed-case numbers, letters, and symbols or at least four unrelated words, for every account they use.
As director of national intelligence, Gabbard oversees the 18 organizations comprising the US intelligence community, including the Central Intelligence Agency and the National Security Agency, and their budget of roughly $100 billion. By statute, she is the principal adviser to the president and the National Security Council on intelligence matters relating to national security, and so is charged with maintaining the security of much of the most sensitive information in the government. The Democratic National Committee, citing a 2019 statement that Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad was ânot the enemy of the United States,â news reports on the support she has enjoyed from Russian state media, and her ties to âconspiracy theorists,â has characterized Gabbard as a âdirect threat to our national security.â
Gabbard addressed these criticisms during her Senate confirmation hearings in January.
âThose who oppose my nomination imply that I am loyal to something or someone other than God, my own conscience, and the constitution of the United States, accusing me of being Trumpâs puppet, Putinâs puppet, Assadâs puppet, a guruâs puppet, Modiâs puppet, not recognizing the absurdity of simultaneously being the puppet of five different puppet masters,â she said. âThe fact is, what truly unsettles my political opponents is I refuse to be their puppet.â

George Harrison's Spirituality & Music - Beatles and Eastern Influences: https://youtu.be/6jm3a_Gvc5g?si=3dERNsMUelZ8_qBY
"Dive deep into the life of George Harrison, the legendary Beatle, and discover the profound influence of spirituality on his music. In this video, we explore how George's quest for spiritual enlightenment shaped his songwriting and personal life. From his embrace of Indian culture and the sitar to his collaborations with spiritual figures and his devotion to the Hare Krishna movement, witness the harmonious blend of his spiritual journey with his musical genius."
I believe the host of the channel, Filip Holm, is a Sufi. His documentaries are always impressively thorough, with this one even mentioning Swami Vivekananda, Yogananda, and the Vaishnava tradition. A great exploration of the Beatles, Ravi Shankar, and the various eastern influences.

Do you think Hinduism should become an expansionist religion?
đđđ Sham Sharma ki Video dekhi na tu?
Anyways, my answer to the question is that it depends.
In our current geopolitical atmosphere and the anti Hindu forces working tenuously to shrink us further, it is somewhat required. We have seen how not using the expansionist stratergy has costed the Jews over millenia, as it has done to us because the radicals we are against (obviously, I do not mean an average Christian or Muslim but just the radical elements) are expansionists.
Because the truth is that the conversion situation is more dire than we like to think, more people leave Hinduism than the reverts who join, and although we talk about muslim radicals, the christian missionaries are the ones leading the penchant fr.
And, it is not like we cannot do it. On the contrary, I feel like we will do it quite splendidly given how we attracted the likes of George Harrison, Julia Roberts, Miley Cyrus, Will Smith, Stallone either partially or fully to our faith without trying, and organisations such as ISCKON who do not even consist of 1% of total Hindus have done a steady job in bringing people to Hinduism, becasue Hinduism has a pluralistic and flexible belief system that connects to both religion and spirituality.
And we have done it before. Adi Shankaracharya did that when India was becoming dangerously close to becoming a Budhhist nation, so it is totally fine as long as it is to save our identity/make people aware of the truth of Hinduism like jagatguru did when people were converting out due to not understanding it properly, and not dominate the world.
If even 20% of Hindu population starts spreading their faith to the curious minded induviduals, we can hold up on our own against the offenders.
And I do not mean aggressive tactics or freebie promises at all, but a simple sharing of faith to those interested. Please, keep your mouths shut to people who already are in love with their religions.
The Ghar Wapsi initiative has been popular but failed to attract enough people as expected, simply because of the aggression that surrounds it. Its beginnings and the intrusive hindu groups that exploit the word have made people (especially non Hindus) wary of it, and an average Hindu is still a person who is not a fan of unwarranted conflicts and does not care what faith other people practice. The truth is that initiatives like ghar wapsi can only work within India as long as it does not rid itself of the radical elements around it.
ISCKON has used nothing but song, dance and love of God and today Hare Krishna movement is spread worldwide. They have done the mere job of actually making people aware of God, whereas Ghar Wapsi is based more on an Individual being a Hindu than an actual affiliation to God (reason #956834 why I donât believe that extremists actually care about our Gods). Which is again why it cannot be popular outside India; you need to know about the Gods you are considering following, and while you can expect Indian Non-Hindus to know since this is a Hindu majority country, you cannot really expect that of people in Russia, Cambodia, El Salvador etc.
This is all I can say for now, the rest I will explain later.

WHEN IS JANMASHTAMI IN 2023? | HISTORY, IMPORTANCE & PUJA VIDHI
Reading Time- 7 Mins
Janmashtami, one of the most celebrated Hindu festivals, marks the birth of Lord Krishna, the eighth avatar of Lord Vishnu. With its roots in ancient Indian mythology and rich cultural significance, Janmashtami is observed with great fervor and devotion across the country. Krishna devotees all over the world are confused as to when the actual celebration of the festival is. Is the auspicious day falling on the 6th or 7th of September? Donât worry, we are here to clear up your confusion:
Janmashtami falls on the eighth day of the Bhadrapada month and is also known as Gokulashtami. In 2023, this auspicious festival will be celebrated on September 7th (Thursday) and is anticipated to be a joyous occasion for millions of devotees.
Historical and Mythological Significance:
At the core of Krishna's devotion lies an admiration for his multifaceted persona. Lord Krishna is not just a deity but a reservoir of virtues that encompass the realms of love, wisdom, playfulness, courage, and compassion. It is this multi-dimensional nature that captures the hearts of his followers, drawing them into a world of unconditional love and unwavering faith.
The story of Janmashtami revolves around the divine life of Lord Krishna, born in Mathura to Devaki and Vasudeva. Due to a prophecy that he would be slain by his maternal uncle, the evil King Kansa, Krishna was secretly transported to Gokul and raised by his foster parents, Yashoda and Nanda. The festival not only celebrates his birth but also commemorates his heroic deeds, teachings, and divine love.

Relevance in Modern Times:
The teachings of Lord Krishna, as elucidated in the Bhagavad Gita, continue to resonate with people across generations. His philosophy of duty, righteousness, and detachment serves as a guiding light in navigating the complexities of life. Janmashtami serves as an annual reminder of these timeless teachings, encouraging devotees to strive for spiritual growth and self-realization.
The supreme God's devotion to dharma (righteousness) is another cherished aspect of his character. Through his own life experiences, Krishna showcases that upholding dharma requires courage, integrity, and a deep understanding of the bigger cosmic picture. His teachings emphasize the importance of fighting for justice and truth, even in the face of adversity.
Celebrations and Rituals:
Janmashtami is celebrated with immense enthusiasm and devotion. The festivities commence with elaborate preparations, including decorating homes and temples with flowers and colorful rangoli. Devotees fast throughout the day, breaking it only at midnight when Lord Krishna is believed to have been born. The main rituals include:
Krishna Jhula Decoration: A swing (jhula) is adorned with flowers and decorations, symbolizing the cradle in which the infant Krishna was rocked.
Singing Bhajans and Kirtans: Devotees gather in temples to sing devotional songs (bhajans) and engage in kirtans (spiritual chants) that recount the life and deeds of Lord Krishna.
Midnight Abhishek: The highlight of Janmashtami is the midnight Abhishek (ritual bath) performed with milk, curd, ghee, honey, and water. This is followed by the ceremonial placing of the idol in the cradle amidst the chanting of mantras.
Puja Procedure:
Performing the Janmashtami puja at home can be a deeply spiritual experience. Here's a simplified puja procedure:
Cleanse: Begin by purifying yourself through a bath and wearing clean clothes.
Idol Preparation: Set up an idol or picture of Lord Krishna on an altar, adorned with flowers and decorations.
Offerings: Offer fruits, sweets, and other vegetarian delicacies to Lord Krishna.
Aarti: Light a ghee lamp and perform an aarti (circular movement of the lamp) while singing devotional songs.
Chanting: Recite Krishna mantras or the Hare Krishna Mahamantra to invoke the divine energy.
Midnight Celebration: Stay awake until midnight, meditating or engaging in devotional activities. At midnight, perform the abhishek and offer prayers.
Distribution of Prasad: Share the blessed Prasad with family and friends.
Janmashtami, beyond being a celebration of Lord Krishna's birth, serves as a platform for spiritual growth, cultural unity, and devotion. It teaches us the importance of righteousness, love, and selfless action, making it more than just a religious event. As 2023's Janmashtami approaches, let us embrace the festival's teachings and celebrate with reverence and joy, connecting with the divine essence that resides within us all.
The essence of Janmashtami extends beyond mere ritualistic celebrations. It is a reminder to embrace Krishna's teachings in everyday life, to love unconditionally, to fulfill duties with dedication, and to rise above the challenges with unwavering faith. Krishna's life is a mirror reflecting the journey of every individual seeking truth, purpose, and a deeper understanding of existence.

1997 Dublin - Number 15 - Manjari - "Lys"
youtube
This is a little different. Perhaps Eurovision is changing after all. The whole thing is full of enigmas.
At the front and centre is Manjari, the stage name for 18-year-old Trude Trefall. This is her one and only song. After this she disappeared from the musical world. Apart from the fact she also got married in 1997, there's nothing else out there. Her story feels similar to that of Silje Vige, Norway's entry in 1993. A young girl coming from nowhere, put in front of a huge audience, enchanting everyone then vanishing. Silje did have a longer musical career, but not on such large stages.
Then there's the song, Lys (Lights). It's trance. Laid back beats, lyrics filled with a positive vibe of harmony an togetherness, repeated several times. Specifically it's uplifting trance, a subgenre that as peaking in popularity in 1997 with a number of big name DJs releasing tracks of a similar style. That makes this probably the bravest, most contemporary track in what was a largely lower quality MGP.
Behind Lys and Manjari is the song-writer, Rune Lindstrom. He had been the original drummer with deLillo's, one of the biggest rock groups in Norway throughout the 1980s and 1990s, and who continue to release music today. Rune also drummed for several other Norwegian bands and still contributes to deLillo's on occasion. The reason for his early departure from the band in the mid 1980s was that he joined the Hare Krishna movement - and that gives context to Lys.
Lys's lyric and vibe is Krishnacore, a microgenre that was undergoing a renaissance on the back of several UK bands incorporating into their aesthetic, combined with the mantra friendliness of trance (notably Goan trance music). How all of that managed to wash up in second place in MGP 1997 is one of those weird coincidences that makes the world so much more enjoyable. For it's uniqueness and genuine chill, this has to be celebrated.
At Eurovision, the song that beat Lys scored nul points. I'm confident that Lys would have done considerably better.

Finding Calm in the City: How Yoga and Meditation Eases Stress
Life in Melbourne moves fast. Between fast-paced work, social commitments and daily responsibilities, it can be hard to find a moment to pause. Stress and anxiety are often common companions, leaving you feeling disconnected and overwhelmed.
At Hare Krishna Melbourne, we get it. We understand the need for balance and inner peace. We also know with yoga and meditation you can reconnect with your self, restoring clarity and calm to daily life.
The power of bhakti-yoga
Often associated with physical postures, the essence of yoga extends beyond the body. The word yoga literally means âunionâ, a connection between the mind, body, and soul. And bhakti-yoga is the practice of nurturing this mind, body and soul connection through devotion and mindfulness. Cultivating love and compassion, this form of yoga invites a deeper, transcendental understanding of self. Encouraging self-reflection, bhakti-yoga re-establishes a meaningful relationship with the divine, separate from everyday stress. Learn more about Bhakti Yoga here.
Essentially, bhakti-yoga incorporates meditation, chanting and acts of kindness into daily life. Through these practices stress fades, and contentment takes its place. Unlike yoga classes focusing mainly on movement, bhakti-yoga places emphasis on the heart and mind, an accessible, enriching experience for people from all walks of life.
The role of mantra meditation in stress relief
Meditation is a powerful tool for calming the mind. When combined with mantra chanting, it becomes even more transformative. â Manâ means mind and â traâ means to free, so mantra means to free the mind. The mind is often restless, jumping from one thought to another. By focusing on sacred sounds through mantra meditation, you can shift away from stress and into a state of inner peace.
