Day 7-8: Open square and twist

These are two simple variations on the square knot. Let's start with the open square:

To make this knot, first loop the outer cords around the base knot as if you were making one full square knot but without tightening the outer cords around the base. This should give you two loose half-knots.

Adjust the size of the loops above the first half knot. Hold the first half knot down in place when the loops form a gap at the desired size. Then tighten the second half knot to the first to create a tightened square knot. Adjust the knot as needed.

Base is 1 PL, outside cords 2 PL. Outside cords should be longer if you plan to have a sequence of square knots between open squares. The length of the cord can also be affected by the size and shape of the gap- larger gaps on an open square generally use less cord.

The open square good for showing off base cord colors or to have a project that uses less cord than a full square knot. The hardest part is making sure all the loops are the same size.

The twist is a fun variation that doesn't integrate well into larger projects. It's still very pretty and very easy to make.

When making a square knot you go back and forth, folding the left and right cords over the base strings. To make a twist you always fold over the base from one side, never making the second half of a square knot. It creates a twisting effect.

Whether you fold from the left or the right makes the project twist in different directions.

If the outer cords have two colors they form a sort of stripey pattern:

The square knot is a knot with a strong twisting effect. That's why you have to do the second half of the knot in the opposite direction, to balance out the twist and make the knot flat.

There's a couple of knots (although I won't get into them on this year's Macre-May) that have a weak twisting effect. They may not be as obvious as the above twist design, but can create a slow shift over the course of a project. I'll give a warning when we come to one.

April Showers Challenge 

[noun: in parts of the northern hemi, an april shower is rain during the month of april]

for this little challenge, we want it to rain! so, all you have to do is write a story (minimum word count 500), create a moodboard, gif or art where it is raining / rain is present (that is a must!). 

below, i've found some prompts if you want or need, but creativity is all up to you. the only condition for the story is that it must be raining and must include at least ONE pedro pascal character (no rpf pls). how you interpret that is up to you <winks>  

[I’ve wanted to do this for an impossibly long time (and we all know how much i love writing about the rain) but the most important thing here is to have fun. if it becomes stressful, please don't force yourself to post!]

SO, THE CHALLENGE? 

It must include raining in some capacity.

The challenge is open from 1st April to 30th April (ideally 👀, but i'm never going to stop people from posting late)

Your story must include ONE pedro pascal character (or more, if you so wish)

💥 PPCU Body Worship Writing Challenge! 💥

Hey there, amazing Tumblr community! I am beyond thrilled to announce that I have reached a milestone of 1.6k followers! Truly I am speechless to see you all here 🥹 I could never express my gratitude enough! To celebrate, I have put together a PPCU body worship writing challenge. With big thanks to @syd-djarin for all her help and having the greatest idea ever and letting me run with it! and @joelslegalwhre for listening to me scream about this and panic. And @saradika-graphics for the dividers. Here's how it will work:

1. In the comments or via DM, send a number from 1-16 and one of the following letters: a-i. (Example: 5b) a list of all possible characters and Body parts are listed below but their order is not as is on the list to make it more random and fun.

If you would like to pick a specific character just send an ask or dm saying something like "Can I pick <insert character> and letter d?"

2. I will then randomly assign you a Pedro Boy from the list below and a body part to write about. (Example: Joel Miller - Lips)

3. Use your creativity to describe the character's body part in any way you want! You can write a fic, a gif, a character study, art, or even create a moodboard - it's up to you! The goal is to have fun.

4. Share your masterpiece by posting it with the hashtag #PPCUBodyWorshipChallenge so we can all enjoy your work! Don't forget to tag me so I can see your entry too!

⚡ CREATIVE CHALLENGE! ⚡

I've officially hit 300 followers!! Which means it's time for a creative challenge! Thank you to everyone who has supported me and continues to support me, I hope you all will have fun with this one!

The theme of the challenge is: Flexibility of Lightning.

Basically, we all know that Jay's element is the most versatile of all the elements. It can be used in so many different ways that we are often robbed of in the show. I want you to show me your favourite headcanon about Jay's power, something unique about it.

It can be its effects on him, its effects on others, special abilities he can have with it, or even special attacks/uses. Anything is possible with electricity :).

Rules and Information:

It does NOT have to be an art piece! This is a creative challenge because I will be opening it to all forms of media. Comics, art, fanfictions, and drabbles will all be accepted! If you can find another way of doing it, then I am happy to see that as well.

Each person can only submit TWO maximum pieces. They can be of any medium, any combination. The amount you do will not put you higher than anyone else though, its just if you want to.

The deadline is TBA: I want to see how people go with this before I set a firm time limit, but expect somewhere between the next month or two.

The piece must be about Jay and his powers, or his relationship to them. (this one is self explanatory.)

Event Info & Rules

TBB APPRECIATION WEEK is a week-long, prompt-based creation challenge to celebrate our love for the Batchers and the show. There are 7 groups of prompts—one for each day of the week—, which can be used, skipped, or combined in any way you’d like. They are meant to be an inspiration without being taken literally (i.e., you don’t have to include the exact wording of prompts in your work). Feel free to interpret them at your convenience. For example, if the prompt is “anooba”, you can create either something about the animal, use it as a name/mascot of a sports team in your modern-day AU, or as an analogy for someone with a voracious appetite. It’s up to you.

Each group contains a Theme (which is in and on itself a prompt), an AU/Trope, Dialogue, an extra character, NSFW, and a color palette). You can use them in combination or just pick one. The Narcos Fandom Forever discord server is introducing a month-long challenge, the Narcos October Prompts, which is open to fan creators for both the OG Narcos and Narcos MX TV shows.

October 6 — Day of International Relations

Write non-English language fic.

Use a random country picker and utilize that country in your work in some way: a character is from that country, a food from that country shows up, there’s international politics, etc. You get two rerolls if you don’t like the first or second country you get. If you get the United States, reroll automatically.

October 7 — Day of Darkness

Make something centered around non-death dark topics (we have a specific death day already). Morally or emotionally dark topics/themes.

One-word prompt: Blackout.

October 8 — Day of Light

A day of pure fluff: anything insanely, unambiguously, self-indulgently, luxuriously enjoyable.

One-word prompt: Sunrise.

October 9 — Day of Gay

Create anything devoted to an LGBTQ+ character. This can be your headcanon, but if you want a canon gay character, Pacho and his boyfriends are canonically gay. Also, one of Pacho’s biker lady criminals is played by a trans actress.

Create anything with a queer and/or trans original character or reader insert.

October 10 — Day of Tough Shit

Write a fic whose exact wordcount is divisible by 500 (500, 1000, 1500, etc).

Make a fanwork in a medium you’ve never used before. If you make GIFs, write something. If you write, draw. Etc. As long as it’s uncharted territory for you!

October 11 — Day of Fun

Create a non-visual, non-fic fanwork: quiz, game, playlist, incorrect quotes.

Create a fanwork with at least one joke in it (that YOU think is funny, fuck everyone else if they don’t think it’s funny lmao).

October 12 — Day of Death

Kill a character who lives in canon.

Create something with a character who is mourning a dying thing rather than a person (their dying relationship, their dying career, their dying city, their dying memories, their dying friendship, their dying dreams, etc etc etc)

October 13 — Day of Life

Create a fanwork in which a character avoids their canonical death.

Create a fanwork about characters having kids (sex to have kids, pregnancy, the birth itself, the kids growing up) or choosing not to have kids. It's a free country (it’s sorta a free country) (it’s sorta kinda a free country) (depends on which country we’re talking about i suppose)

October 14 — Day of Support

Create a review, response, or analysis of a Narcos or Narcos Mexico fic, in the style of an Amazon review or a NYT book review or something like that. Please keep it constructive and positive, no roasts.

October 15 — Day of Absolute Filth

Create a smut fanwork that includes three different kinks and/or sex acts (basically you could tag it with at least three tags that are Pure Filth).

Create a fanwork about a character’s moral corruption.

Create a fanwork inspired by your #1 narcos comfort episode (not necessarily “the best” but rather the episode you rewatch the most often because you love it so much).

Create a fanwork focused on the character development of a woman from the show.

October 22 — Day of Cross-Fandom Pollination

The video below explains the process better than I could probably in text (I suck at conveying thing through text). My video also has a tl;dr that I would appreciate everyone read before submitting.

Also, you may know me for my "Raspberry Pis are for paypigs" video where I try to advocate for the upcycling for ewasted Chromebooks.

I've been into the idea of leaving around Zines for a while. Every time I walk into a coffee shop or local business, I think "wow, I really would wish there was something cool to read." So I started making things to put there: 8 small 2.5 inch panels, folded into one 2.5 inch square for those interested to unravel. I put them inside of these origami boxes that a learned how to make, ones with a logo printed on them.

So far I've made: a zine template (I call it a dog ear zine for some reason), a template for the box to put them in, a zine about using yt-dlp, a zine about a reindeer working IT (along with a collaborator) and (coming soon) a zine about a monster in a cave doing stuff. All of the odg LibreOffice Draw template files to make your own zines or print out mine are on my archive.org page (linked at top of my Tumblr). I'd really like other people to try this 8 panel 2.5 inch zine format, and I'm willing to bribe people with sweet, sweet Gabe Newell bucks to do it. You can submit as many zines in this format as you want. Just make sure they're printed out and have pictures of both the front and back (plus other pictures if you want) . In the video I mentioned you can use my submit page, which is probably the easiest for me to keep track of. You can also use the #dogearzine hashtag to enter. Please read the video description before entering, though (which includes Youtube's and Tumblr's terms of service, though this is more of a youtube thing).

Also, and this is completely unrelated, there's a lot more to me than just the faux-clickbait Wojak thumbnails. I like doing tech, wrestling, japanese, vidya and other videos, but I love to throw art in whenever I can shoehorn it in. Like, the video where I go over inchworm, butterfly, colors 3D and flipnote sudomemo - colors 3D on a hacked 3DS was my sister's first experience with digital at (she's moved up to an iPad and Procreate). So, it hold a special place in might heart, as a lot of the things I talk about do. I made a Whomp video because I miss Ronnie. I made a Rockbox video because I wished more people used dedicated MP3 players and knew where and how to download music. I want to help people do interesting things. And I also want to thank anyone who read all of this. You are cool. I hope everyone who's able to can compete in this contest and challenge themselves to get out of their comfort zone, to try something new! Also, also, thanks for liking these posts, people on Tumblr.
