wonwoo had never in his life been so afraid. afraid of losing yn. yes. he had fallen for her. it only took weeks for her to break the hard shell he cast around his heart.
he couldn't bear to let her get hurt.
she was the first woman who had loved seollie with all her heart. she was the first woman her genuinely felt that he could confide in.
if comfort and security was a person, to him, it'd be yn.
and she was gone.

yn barricaded herself in her art room. her sculpting tools would be of great use in this situation.
her stalker was jaeho. jaeho and e/n to be precise.
jaeho and e/n were in cahoots the whole time. the plan was to monopolise the 2 daughters of a rich family so that they could get money to fund their careers.
however, after jaeho successfully married chaeyoung, he realised she was going to ruin his reputation so he asked e/n to brutally leave yn so he cld be there to pick up the pieces and seduce yn.
after that, jaeho began to stalk yn o figure out her new place of residence. e/n, began to separately stalk her, in an attempt to get her back.
"yn. i told you that you were next. don't be scared. i won't do anything."
"jaeho, my parents hate me. what does attacking me do for you? you won't get ransom!"
"not from them. i'll get ransom from your precious boyfriend wonwoo."
"you aren't making any sense! if you want money, i'll just give it to you. please just get out!"
jaeho wanted to hurt her. he blamed her for his misfortune with chaeyoung.
"if you were better, i wouldn't have married chaeyoung."
"how is that my problem! what is wrong with you? i'm confused and scared and you don't make sense. pl-"
she was cut off by the sounds of crashing and something being slammed into a wall. she heard clatters of metal and shouting before she heard the comfort of a voice she knew so well.
"i'm here, yn. you're okay."
wonwoo.

do you have any headcanons for the reincarnations/chapter 205? :D
First off, when I read that chapter I was like... "I can't believe it's over... what a ride... BUT WHAT DID I JUST READ????"
Also, since canon only describes them as "descendants" and "a person who..." and never says "reincarnation" I don't technically think of them that way... although that is hard to do after the Obamitsu promise. My main issue with this is looking backwards; it's simply a matter of preference that I don't like thinking of Tanjiro and Nezuko as reincarnations of Sumiyoshi and Suyako (and I especially prefer to keep Yoriichi and Tanjuro as separate people), because I like the straightforward interpretation of inherited memories as something unique to this world.
So that being said!!
The modern day kids have really grown on me. : D Touko is my favorite. I have written some headcanons for them which I have tucked into fanworks that I'll link below.
--The Kamado family house was given to the Hashibira family, so Aoba still has ties there (although he doesn't live there). This is also why the Kamado boys live in the city. Theory expanded on here.
--If they are indeed reincarnations, then Kotoha was reincarnated as Aoba's mom, but she's a divorcee. Aoba's canonical younger brother has a wilder personality. I had a really nice time playing with Aoba interacting with his mom in this short fic, which also refers to the above theory and has interactions with other characters in the fallout of the blue spider lily failure.
--The Kamado family is so removed from their old charcoal past that they just FORGOT to give the oldest son a charcoal related name
--Touko inherited Zenitsu's wide range of strong emotions and expression. Although the women in their family are known for being nice and sweet, there is always what is called the "Agatsuma Demon Gene." However, it's unclear which great-grandparent this came from. There is no mention of Nezuko as a demon in any of "The Legend of Zenitsu" so Yoshiteru is convinced she was a demure girl who needed to stay out of the sunlight for health reasons. These are referred to in this collection of fanart/doodles of the Chapter 205 cast, as well as in this comic that was drawn before Volume 23 came out, so we were still under the impression that Kanata considered Touko his girlfriend (canonically, he does not, that evil flirt).
--More fun doodles of Touko with Zenitsu's expressions and Yoshiteru with Nezuko's expressions here
--Yoshiteru has Marfan Syndrome.
--This isn't so much a headcanon as an observation, but I love what Iguro being a chef and having a good luck snake emblem says about how he's been freed some his past. So I said that all at the end of this post about snake analysis as it relates to Iguro.
--I just kind love that Kiriya and Yushiro are friends???
--I don't know how I feel about the "they get together every year to do Kagura in the Breath styles" thing that was added later. It just doesn't seem to fit well with everything. First, the need for Breath technique is gone, so if Tanjiro decided to simply not teach the next generation, that would have been a fine statement. After all, they just keep the earrings in a framed box now. Second, it would imply that they all might recognize each other from having met every year. Touko would happily anticipate meeting her favorite gymnast every year, and she and Yoshiteru would both already have met Aoba plenty of times, as would Sumiyoshi, who supposedly only meets him when they are both sulking about being in trouble. Maybe they wouldn't recognize each other out of the context of being in the shrine for Kagura once a year, but those kinds of events usually take all day to set up, conduct, and then have a party afterward with lots of interaction. Plus, who was even around to pass on some of those Breaths??? And what kind of move is Thunderclap and Flash for a full Kagura dance???????? So my headcanon is that Touko has stayed home from it for the last few years, Yoshiteru has mostly just hung out with his distant cousins, Aoba's little brother is the one who has been doing it lately while Aoba has been busy as a student and then career botanist, and the dances are staged throughout the day at different times, so Flower Breath and Insect Breath are never around the same time as Thunder Breath so Yoshiteru never even encountered the girls. Also, the Corp had other survivors!! Maybe they're the ones who have been retaining most of these traditions in place of characters who did not survive to leave descendants!
Well that one turned into a rant. Anywayyyy.
--Reincarnated!?Shinobu is Giichi's babysitter and she finds him overly talkative, because irony is fun. (Also in fanart)
--Reincarnated!?Makomo is Reincarnated!?Urokodaki's granddaughter (also in the same fanart collection)
--Toujurou's dad has trouble keeping students in the kendo dojo, because bringing in KimeGaku elements is fun
--The cops take their coffee really, really sweet; it's totally loaded with sugar
Enjoy the things I linked!! They have more of my thoughts and fun with them!! : D

Kissing Tanjiro Kyojuro and 2 more characters scars they've gotten from battle?the last 2 can be whoever.
This is so sweet
Tanjiro
Tumblr media
Tanjiro had quite a bit of scars all over his body from training and fighting and he always tried to cover them up because they made him upset seeing them. He never told you why his scars made him upset and you didn't mind. Everyone has there reasons for things and it's none of your business. But one night when you were sitting with Tanjiro in the middle of the woods looking at the stars. Tanjiro had his head in your lap and you would look down at him every once and a while to make sure he was still awake. One of his hands was holding yours and the other was on his katana encase a demon attacked the both of you. But one time when you looked down at him you noticed a new scar on his hand that hadn't been there before. You let go of Tanjiro's hand. This action shocked Tanjiro and he looked up at you. "Is something wrong?" He asked worried he upset you. You picked his hand up and gently kissed his hand where the scar was. He smiled at you holding your hand again and returning his gaze to the stars. He thought about it the whole night even when you both had gone back to headquarters he was smiling and talking about you to Zenitsu and Inosuke the whole time.
Kyojuro
Tumblr media
Kyojuro has many scars from previous fights but there all mostly healed. One night when you were cooking dinner Kyojuro was on a mission and should be back any time now. He opened the door and right away you could tell something was wrong. He wasn't smiling and he normally ran up to you and hugged and kissed you when he got home but today he opened the door and said "hi love please give me a moment" then went upstairs. You followed him and opened the door to the room he was in. He was fixing his wounds he got from the mission he had just gotten back from. They didn't look fatal but they looked really painful. You went up to him and gently kissed his arm where the wound was then got some supplies out of the closet and started to help him clean his wound. Once it was all bandaged up you gently kissed the bandages. Kyojuro pulled you into a hug and you both stayed in the embrace for a solid 5 minutes.
Yoriichi
Tumblr media
(I've never written for him before so I thought this would be a good opportunity)
Your husband Yoriichi was extremely strong and he almost never got injured in battle. But he still had some scars on his body from training and from playing with his brother when he was younger. You and your husband were out one night picking fruit from the garden you had next to your house. Yoriichi was wearing a kimono that showed part of his back and on his back he had 2 scars. came up behind him and hugged him first. He flinched at the action but once he realized it was just you he calmed down. You looked at the scars a bit more and gently kissed them. "I'm sorry darling these must've hurt" you said resting your head on his back away from where the scars were. "It's alright it's not your fault" he said as he gently grabbed your hand. "I think we've gotten enough. Let's go back inside it's getting late." He said smiling at you.
Sanemi
Tumblr media
You and Sanemi were having a quiet afternoon at home. You and Sanemi were in bed cuddling you were laying on his chest and he had his arms wrapped around you and was rubbing your back. You were so relaxed you started to doze off just as you were about to fall asleep you noticed something out of the corner of your eye. A new scar on Sanemi's chest. It had healed pretty quickly it looked like but it looked like it hurt. You lifted your head up slightly and kissed the scar that you noticed before laying back down on Sanemi's chest and going to sleep. Sanemi was kind of shocked but continued to rub your back even if you were already asleep. People were scared of Sanemi because of how many scars he had and you kissed them? Sanemi started to get kind of tired as well but even as he was dozing off he thought about what you did.
Thank you for your request! This was really fun to write! have a nice day/night

the first light of day in three centuries
-
i haven't actually written much of anything for the road trip au, and i still have no idea if/when i'm gonna actually write a proper fic for it, but i got struck with an idea, so here's an unedited bit of writing with absolutely zero context or framing!
-
-
kokushibou looks down at the boy, barely old enough to be carrying a sword and fighting in a war, and there's a strange quiet in the back of his head. the boy looks so painfully like his brother, like yoriichi, that kokushibou almost sneers at it. the earrings, the black blade that kokushibou had thrown to the side, the mark curling over his forehead. the part of him that's muzan reels back at the sight of it, an instinctual fear down to his very dna.
if there’s one thing that separates the two, though, it would have to be the fear. had yoriichi ever even felt fear? surely not. the entire time kokushibou had known him, he'd been dead-eyed— cold and unfeeling as the monster he was.
(there was a moment, once or twice, a very long time ago, when yoriichi had looked at michikatsu and smiled. a soft sort of look that made him appear frighteningly human. but michikatsu had been just a boy the last time he'd seen his brother’s smiling face. and all those memories have long since faded over the centuries.)
kokushibou stalks forward, and the boy— already on the ground— starts pushing himself backwards, staring in wide-eyed horror at the demon before him. and in that moment, kokushibou has a strange thought.
this feels familiar. it's different shades, different contexts, and yet…
three centuries ago, on a night not unlike this one, kokushibou— who had still been michikatsu at the time— had found himself surrounded by the corpses of humans and demons alike. on his back, crawling backwards in horror, unable to do anything else.
was this how i looked, kokushibou thinks, when yoriichi found me?
and with that thought, everything shifts. the world stays the same, but kokushibou suddenly sees it all differently. he hesitates, and a pressure builds in the back of his mind, in the tether on his very soul that connects him to his master- to kibutsuji- to muzan.
a sense of impatience. a sense of urgency. muzan’s orders are clear— kill the boy, find the girl.
kokushibou looks down and sees the shadow of a boy long dead, an elder brother burdened with the weight of responsibility, a demon slayer who could never quite use sun breathing as good as the pillar of sun, whose demon slayer mark came and went on a whim, whose younger sibling was always stronger, always the one people wanted over him.
very clearly and deliberately, kokushibou thinks, no.
he expects violence. he expects for muzan’s curse to crawl up his throat and destroy him from the inside out. he expects his blood to turn sour and biting and boil out of his veins.
instead, there's an odd sensation, like a string has been snapped. and then there is silence. for the first time in three centuries, kokushibou is alone in his thoughts.
he leans down and reaches a hand out to tilt the boy’s face.
“i have been a fool.”

Hiya V! How’re you? Hope you’re well! 💛
Out of curiosity, who are your top ten favorite ‘Demon Slayer’ characters and why? I’m really curious!
Thanks! Xxx
Hi Anon! I'm doing well, thank you!
This is a really good question! I've never really thought about my top ten KnY characters before because I love all of them, but if I absolutely have to single out ten of them, with a few underrated ones:
Kokushibo: Need I say more? Or rather, in the immortal words of Jane Austen, if I loved him less, I might be able to talk about him more. His unearthly beauty, his appreciation for talent and skill no matter who he fought, his envy for Yoriichi's gifts, his fear of his legacy being forgotten — all at odds with what is ultimately his all-too human desire to be seen and appreciated for his own skills. Kokushibo has done many unforgivable things in his long, long life — things which not even I can excuse nor downplay — but he is also an immensely complex and compelling individual fraught with at once the ugliest and most beautiful parts of humanity.
Muzan: I have read many manga series over the years, but seldom have I seen an antagonist as single-minded as Kibutsuji Muzan. Certainly, there are better written villains out there, with greater depth and harsher backstories, but the simplicity of Muzan's aims — to conquer the sun and become a perfect being — stands out in a sea of moustache-twiddling foes with schemes to take over the world. That he was born to comfort at a time of Japan's culture epoch, who saw nothing wrong with dirtying his aristocratic hands to kill a lowly doctor; that he did not mind subsisting on humans, but could not tolerate the idea of sitting in the shade whilst other languished in the sun; that he created demons as a tool for his objectives but ultimately saw them more as a hindrance — he is truly a man for himself. As he said in the final battle, was it not enough for the rest of you lot to still be alive? He is not trying to rule over the world, mind you — and even if one were to be so unlucky as to cross paths with him, it was, well, because they were down on their luck. He does not wish to play God, for he does not even care about these lowly mortals; this is truly his world, and we are all just living in it.
Douma: Douma IS brat, y'all. I have always loved unsympathetic villains as much as sympathetic ones, and the second Upper Moon is no exception. Make no mistake, there is nothing redeemable about Douma — he is a cult leader who takes pride in objectifying women as nothing but sustenance. I adore the moment when the light in his dazzling eyes shut off after Kanao calls him out his act. Yet, unlike other delightful sociopathic villains (Tsukiyama Shū from Tokyo Ghoul comes to mind), Douma never fully crosses the line into camp, as in the case of Gyokki; in his mind, he is as sincere as he can be, and he comes across as someone who truly enjoys being a demon and the benefits that come with it. In that sense, he is delightful to watch and even more delightful to hate, and I wished we saw him riling up the other Upper Moons more.
Nakime: In a different world, Nakime would be the perfect protagonist of a psychological thriller/slasher film a la Black Swan. Killing her husband was one thing, but finding the trembling of her fingers post-murder so musically inspiring that she did it again and again — this was a level of artistry that not even Gyokko could fathom in his wildest imaginations.
Rengoku Shinjurō: Reader, I can fix him — was the first thing I thought of when we saw Shinjurō properly for the first time. He is an interesting comparison against Uzui — both of them are retired Hashira, yet the former did not so much as leave a trailing blaze as he fell from grace. How useless must he have felt by the time of Rengoku Gaiden — losing his wife, disgracing his family's name? Likewise, he was no doubt feeling like a mutton dressed as a lamb when Uzui and Himejima joined the ranks of the Hashira. Though his abusive treatment of his children are reprehensible, they also stem from a deeply seated place of mid-life crisis, insecurity, and self-hatred.
Urokodaki Sakonji: There is a wonderful art from Chapter 90 which depicts Urokodaki carving two wooden dolls of Tanjiro and Nesuko — it moves me in a strange way that I cannot put properly into words, only that it encapsulates Urokodaki's compassion, empathy, and kindness in a manner that sets him apart from the typical elder mentor that we see in other shōnen works.
Kanroji Mitsuri: If we are talking about relatable characters, then there is no one I see myself in more than Mitsuri. Though I may not have her generous heart and endless capacity for kindness and love, I understand her struggle of not feeling like a good enough young lady of marriageable age. Her dyeing her hair, eating less and suppressing her naturally bubbly self in a bid to be more likeable — haven't we all been there? Truly, if there was someone in the entirety of KnY to whom I aspire, it would be Mitsuri.
Uzui Tengen: Though he may resent the Shrek comparison (or own it; it's tough to determine Uzui's actual taste when he brushes so close to being trailer trash), Uzui has layers — his flamboyant exterior belies a true concern for his wives and young charges, and if I may repeat myself once more: it is only when he is the most quiet (sneaking up on the shop owner to demand the whereabouts of Zenitsu, feeding Hinatsuru the antidote, giving Suma and Makio head pats) that he is the most himself. His inclination for all things shiny and extravagant is not merely an expression of himself after escaping from his family, it is also a way for him to cloak his true feelings of care — just as a true shinobi would.
Ubuyashiki Amane: There is so little we know of her besides that she was a shrine maiden, but her actions speak volumes. Her arranged marriage to Ubuyashiki could have left her resentful for it was tantamount to an arranged widowhood, but she nonetheless loved and took care of her young husband, and stayed firmly by his side till the very end. The anime does a stunning depiction of this through the eyecatch of her holding his bandaged, disease hand; and that close-up of her impassive face as the explosives set off around the estate, engulfing her and her husband in flames — she has always known what she was signing up for. A lesser person might have left, or ended their life, but Amane stayed true till the very last moment.
The magistrate who sentenced Hantengu: A true underrated favourite, so hear me out on this one; I think this man is easily one of the most righteous of the entire KnY series. He reminds me so much of the real-life historical figure, Ōoka Echizen (played to perfection by Katō Gō in the 1971 series of the same name, but this is a rabbit hole I shan't force on anyone...), who not only exposed Hantengu's lies, but also saw through that pitiful blind man act and gave him a proper sentence. In a kinder world, he could have adopted Daki and Gyutaro; or delivered justice for Akaza — but that is an AU for another time.
xoxo, V ♥️

Orange Spider Lily pt.2 | {KokuZan}
(First part is here)
Tumblr media
Theme: Angst+Fluff
Tumblr media
Note: thanks to da genius who thought of this part (y'all should be thanking them for the fluff, I was going to make this angst and only angst)
Previously:
And it was all Kokushibo's fault. He had failed his master, his boyfriend, the person dearest to him. He had failed and Muzan had died and it was all. His. Fault.
Kokushibo was enraged. With himself and with the world. So, deciding to keep his promise of taking of Muzan's job, he would take down the demon slayer corps.
He started by turning to the Uppermoons—which were only 5 now—and made them train until they couldn't anymore. He did similar to the Lowermoons, but rather making them go on mission after mission. If any of them died, he found another demon that might be close to the strength of a 12 kizuki and made them a Lowermoon.
He went from demon after demon, sending out on missions that exhausted them to the bone. He went on his own missions as well, telling Nakime to try and track the demon slayers while he, went off on search of the Ubuyashiki's.
He would go out at night and not waste a single second searching, and during the day time he'd train indoors or in dark places. He trained himself until he fell in a heap of sweat and blood and sharp breaths.
He needed to be like Yoriichi now. He needed to have his ability to fight. So he forced himself to look back, using Muzan's memories to see how Yoriichi fought. He would have to build a resistence to red katana blades, he realized, as he watched Muzan nearly die at the hands of his brother.
Nobody living was quite as powerful as Yoriichi had been who might threaten Kokushibo. He could easily kill the Hashira and Ubuyashiki's if he tried. He would just have to find them first.
Kokushibo summoned the 12 kizuki as a whole, a look of fury written on his face. "Tonight.. we'll take down the whole Demon Slayer corps," he said, voice low. "Nakime, continue searching. Douma, eat every last one of the people in your cult. You need strength. Akaza, I do not care if you hate eating women, eat them or find millions of others to eat. Hantengu, let your clones out and train. Gyokko, stop focusing on your useless pottery and start being the Uppermoon you should be. Gyutaro, Daki, do whatever you want at the Entertainment District, but it must involve the two of you strengthening yourselves. Understood?" he asked, glaring at the demons in front of him.
They all nodded obediently, knowing it was best not to contradict. Kokushibo had been a lot harsher than Muzan had—which was saying something. He seemed constantly furious and upset about something, but he never explained. All he'd told them was that Muzan had made him the leader of the demon's because Muzan apparently had had enough of them and ditched them to be by himself—though none of them believed this, they could say nothing.
Kokushibo nodded as well. "Good. Now go. I will call all of you here in 2 hours." Then he was gone, leaving the 12 kizuki in a state of urgency.
~~~ (Random switch to the demon slayer's POV 💀)
There was a crow. And there was Kagaya.
He called the Hashira to him, along with Shinobu's Tsugoku, Kanao, and a large group of selectively picked demon slayers—mostly people with higher ranks markings.
"Tonight, the demons will strike," he murmured to them, as they bowed down to him. "Be prepared. I do not wish for any of you to die, although that is a wish that is something I cannot do anything about."
All of the people before Kagaya gave each other looks of confusion. When have the demons not striked? But then Kagaya elaborated, and their hearts dropped cold.
"The most dangerous demons," he said quietly. "The 12 Kizuki. The demon progenitor. He will come."
Every demon slayer present gasped. Muzan? He was coming?
Kagaya nodded solemnly. "I can feel it."
It was silent in the garden and no one spoke for a long moment.
Mitsuri's voice cut out from the silence then, a quivering, high-pitched squeak. "Do you know where they will go for?"
"I have a hunch," Kagaya said.
"Where?" she asked.
"Here."
The Hashira's eyes widened and the voices rose in a protest.
"Then we have to protect you!" Sanemi said.
"No, that is not necessary. You must protect yourselves. Protect each other. I am not of an importance to the corps," Kagaya said. "Please do not make it your priority to protect me."
The Hashira protested, and Kagaya waited a moment before lifting his hand to silence them.
"I cannot physically do anything. If I do die tonight, Kiriya will take over. Do not worry." He paused. "I believe in all of you. I really do."
The air was silent again and nobody seemed to breathe. And then-
"Okay," Gyomei said, his expression twisted into a sort of sorrowful acceptance. "And I promise, Oyakata-Sama, we will defeat Muzan."
Kagaya simply gave him a ghost of a smile before calling the meeting over. Amane helped him get up and the demon slayers were left there in silence.
And then they burst into conversation, talking of different ways they could go about this. The Hashira proposed that some of them should stay around here and some should find another place to go, in case the demons decided to attack elsewhere.
Most of them quickly agreed on this given that the Hashira were superior to the rest and it really was the only option at this point. So they split up, half of the Hashira stayed here along with half of the groupd of demon slayers, then the other half of the people spread out along the lands around the house and in areas even further.
An hour or two later, they got their answer as to where the demons would attack; right where Kagaya had expected.
A demon who seemed terribly strong, but wasn't Muzan, made his way to the house. Every demon slayer there attacked then, leaving the demon distracted from the Ubuyashiki's momentarily.
But then one of the Hashira shouted, "Where is Muzan??" and the demon stopped, suddenly.
He turned to that Hashira, still managing to block the other people's attempts at wounding him, and he glared, all six of his eyes twitching in fury.
"Muzan? Do you want to kill him? Do you want him dead?" Kokushibo asked, his voice menacing, shaking.
The Hashira, Sanemi, tightened his grip on his katana and nodded. "I'll fucking send him to hell the second I lay my eyes on him," he said. His arms shook but he ignored this terrifying feeling and stood his ground. "Along with you."
Kokushibo barked a laugh, a cold sound that vibrated through the trees. "Well it's too late! He's already dead."
Everyone froze, even Kokushibo. The wind had settled—which was contrasted to what was going on.
"Dead? He's already dead? Then.. how.." Sanemi asked, faltering. "Are you the demon's leader now? Did you kill Kibutsuji?"
Kokushibo raged, then, throwing attack after attack at Sanemi and only Sanemi. "I DIDN'T ASK FOR THIS!!" he screamed, ducking as a katana tried slicing him from behind. "I DIDN'T FUCKING WANT HIM TO DIE." What appeared to be tears leaked from his eyes, surpising Sanemi so that he stumbled for a second.
The attacks came one after the other, not stopping for a second. It because harder to tell what was going on as the demon slayers attempted to shield themselves from Kokushibo's rage.
But soon all of them fell to their deaths, leaving Kokushibo there standing, panting more from fury than exhaustion, alone. He looked about and realized he'd near about torn every living thing around him to pieces. He could sense some Hashira scattered around him and glanced one last time at the broken ruins of the Ubuyashiki's house before making his way to the rest of the demon slayer corps.
He made sure his demons were also out searching the Hashira, stretching out his mind to track them.
And then time became a blur. (no, my lazy ass just wants to speed things up)
He vaguely was aware of what was happening—he fought, there was blood, deaths, his demons were dying too, all the Hashira gone, Ubuyashiki's all dead and then—.. And then silence.
A silence so eerie and deathly that Kokushibo suddenly was aware that he stood admist dead bodies. He was aware he'd won. He'd brought on Muzan's wish and killed the whole demon slayer corps. Slaughtered to the bone, villages, humans, lives.
But Kokushibo wasn't satisfied.
No, he was not.
He needed Muzan.
And Muzan was dead.
The only way to get to him was.....
death.
Death would be his escape.
Kokushibo turned, the horizen lightening from the sun.
He stood there, on the mound of bodies, and waited, resisting every urge to shield himself, run away, and he let himself burn.
The last he saw was the raging sun lifting towards the sky, bringing all the spirits of the people Kokushibo had killed with him.
He was dead.
But he wasn't over.
Many generations later, when technology ruled the world.
(the fuck did I phrase it like that for ;-; Basically, modern now!!)
Michikatsu awoke to the sound of his alarm ringing. He groaned, covering his head with his pillow but his brother, Yoriichi, pulled it off.
"We have school today," Yoriichi said. "You can't sleep in again."
Michikatsu rolled his eyes. "You go, I'm skipping!"
"I heard there's going to be a new student arriving today," Yoriichi continued. His brother stayed under the comfort of his blanket, not wanting to wake.
"Middle of the school year?" Michikatsu asked.
"Yes, he just moved to our city. I heard someone say his name, but I can't quite recall. Something of Muzan?" (Jackson /j)
He sat up then, the name sounding familiar in his mind. "Muzan?"
"Yes. Supposedly he has very distinctive red eyes. He is said to be one you shouldn't mess with. Why?" Yoriichi asked, turning to his elder brother.
"No reason," Michikatsu murmured. "I'll go to school today."
Yoriichi smiled. "Good. I'll get breakfast and wait for you at the door."
Michikatsu nodded absently, his mind on Muzan. Where was that name from? Had he met him before?
As he turned it over in his mind, he vaguely recalled the dream he'd had last night. He'd been having strange, violent dreams like this recently. He'd been killing people—and for some reason he had had six eyes. And he'd uttered a name.
Muzan.
Was that where he'd heard it? Probably a coincidence, it so.
Michikatsu changed and rushed downstairs with his bag in his hand. He ignored the breakfast Yoriichi offered him and set off to school—which was conveniently only a couple blocks away from their house.
When they got to the school, there was a crowd of people surrounding someone in the middle of the halls which prevented the two Tsugikuni's from going through.
Michikatsu, who was well known mostly because of Yoriichi—who excelled at literally anything—shouted at them to shut the fuck up and let them through.
The crowd parted and the Tsugikuni's walked through, curious as to what they'd been so excited about. In the middle of all of the people stood a boy, looking about the same age as Michikatsu, with striking red eyes and raven-black hair. He was shorter, but he looked stern, menacing, and irritated.
Michikatsu's eyes met Muzan's and they gazed at each other, taking the other in as if trying to remember where they'd met.
And then the realization, the relief, and shock. It came all at once and hit Michikatsu like a stone to his back.
He stumbled forward, dropping his bag. Muzan moved forwards as well, and they collided in an embrace in the middle, tears running down Michikatsu's usually cold eyes. Muzan buried his face in the taller one's shoulder and mumbled, so only he could hear, "Kokushibo.. I've missed you."
Michikatsu sobbed in happiness, taking in the sweet, familiar scent of his lover. "I've been waiting for you, I still love you," he murmured back.
Around them, everyone's excitement of the new student had ceased into whispers of confusion in shock. Did Michikatsu know this person somehow? Why were they crying?
Yoriichi watched the two was disdain he knew not where it came from. He sighed and left the hall, deciding he'd not ruin his brother's moment. And though his eyes no longer saw Muzan, he had some burning hatred for the man which he was barely able to stop from boiling over. He wanted to crush the man's head into his skull and burn him in the light of the sun.
Why? he did not know. But Michikatsu seemed happy, so he'd leave him be. For now.
Michikatsu pulled back and, ignoring the way they were surrounded, kissed Muzan passionately like it would be the last time they ever were.
Jeering and cat-calls followed this action and the people around them shouted in surprise and wonder but neither of the two bothered with that.
Kokushibo smiled down at Muzan who was in his arms once more. "Looks like I'll be skipping school after all today," he said.
Muzan's mouth tilted to a smile. "Fuck education, let's go, Kokushibo.."
all of the planning , yet i still feel unprepared .
Those peaceful days where his brother would find the younger lingering within the living realm. Gazing awe at just what this world had become. With nary a single demon in sight. Every single time Michikatsu found him. Sweeping him into his arms. His brother always looked upon those already reincarnated with poorly hidden longing dancing within those soft hues.
Just how many times before had he asked Yoriichi to cross the gate before him?
Yet, Yoriichi was stubborn. He did not desire to leave his older brother alone for countless centuries stuck within the depths of purgatory while he repaid every single one of his sins.
Tumblr media
And that painfully kind expressions painted upon Michikatsu's features for the last few centuries. This deep seated desire to truly help people. Was so strikingly similar to the elder brother written back within those nostalgic days. Whom had always protected him. cared for him.
Loved Yoriichi in place of their father. Who could hardly stand to be in the same room as his youngest son..
Just when exactly did Michikatsu first bear this heartache? Clamoring so deeply within his chest. Of feeling 'unworthy.' Of only merely walking within the steps of Yoriichi's endless silhouette.
Just when exactly, did Michikatsu stop believing that he himself was the sun?
Had he known, would Yoriichi had be able to change anything at all? Might he have been able to save his brother? Preventing from making that final and fatal misstep. Casting aside his humanity among so many other valuable things.
Even just once, Yoriichi wanted to save his reverent brother just as he had down so many times before..
Tumblr media
And yet why, at the same time, Michikatsu always flippantly spoke of him never be able to recover his soul and reincarnate? It was true, Michikatsu had turned into a demon, had wrought suffering upon the innocent. Which was why, all those years ago, Yoriichi had turned his blade upon him and cut him down...
And now. After hundreds upon hundreds of years of guiding the lost. Gazing upon so many be reincarnated. Slowly chipping away upon the massive debt cast upon Michikatsu's soul.
Finally, finally, they stood before the gate of reincarnation.
The older's words were light, half-hearted even, but Yoriichi could still hear notes of fear lingering just beneath that iron gilded mask. Even though he often spoke of the day they would, at long last, be reunited within the living world, he probably still bore heavy doubts that this day would actually come to fruition...
That his soul, his heart, his mind would be free...
Truly and utterly free.
Free from pointless, ceaseless, suffering. From his aching desperations, desiring like nothing else to be 'worthy' of standing by Yoriichi's side.
Free from Muzan's wretched bonds....
❝ It is all right, Aniue. Let's go through the gate together. ❞
Tumblr media
Pulling away from that steady frame just long enough to quietly dig through his pocket. Bringing out his worn wooden flute before holding it towards Michikatsu.
❝ After all, you told me as long as I have this you will always find me again. No matter what. ❞
This is a gift to kingkyojuro I hope you enjoy!
This is my first time ever writing a Yoriichi fanfic ;-;
You paused in your chores and turned as you thought you saw a dark crimson and black ponytail bob past in your peripheral. Your heart leapt and you quickly ran from your task into the street.
“Yoriichi-kun, welcome back!” You called to his back, you felt relief seeing he was unhurt. He stopped and turned to you, and you felt that relief instantly twist into worry. Yoriichi had always been melancholy, but the expression in his eyes now was the same as looking into the glassed over eyes of a corpse.
“Thank you, Y/N.” He gave you his usual gentle smile, closing his eyes. “I hope you’ve been well. I can’t visit right now. I told Lord Ubuyashiki I would speak to him as soon as I got back.”
You nodded, “I’ve been fine, before you go see Master Ubuyashiki, are you okay?” You searched his eyes, hoping he would tell you what was wrong, at least admit to you that he wasn’t actually okay.
“Thank you for worrying about me, but I’m alright. Have a good evening.” He gave you a polite nod then turned and walked away, so you didn’t see his smile fall. You bit your bottom lip and returned to your house to get the rest of your laundry down. What could have happened? Had he maybe found the demon that had killed his wife and their baby? He didn’t talk about it much, and it was such a painful and sensitive subject you didn’t feel comfortable asking him about something so private. You took care of your laundry and started on dinner, deciding you would make Yoriichi something as well, if you were going to keep fretting you might as well go try and see what you could do to help. And at the very least you could make sure he had a meal.
You made a couple of bento boxes so he would have something for the next two days at least. Tying them up in a cloth you left your house and went up to Yoriichi’s house. He didn’t live very far from the village, but he did live on the outskirts. Rengoku had tried convincing him to move into the village, but he refused. Saying he didn’t want to disturb the villagers by his comings and goings even though a lot of the villagers were now also demon slayers. You and Rengoku both believed it was for a different reason.
“Yoriichi-kun? It’s Y/N, I brought you some dinner.” You called from the doorway, there was no answer. “I’m coming in.” You took off your shoes and stepped up into the house. Still only silence. Deciding he may have gone for a walk in the woods you went into the kamado, that way he would be able to find them easily. Going into said room you saw that the shoji was open. You set the food beside the stove and ventured out onto the porch. Out of sight of the open shoji Yoriichi was sitting on the edge of the porch, slumped against the post with his head bowed. Thinking he might have fallen asleep you walked over to him to wake him up so he could avoid a sore neck. It was probably a silly thing to fret about, but if he was going to sleep he should be comfortable and not have to sleep in the position he managed to somehow doze off in.
You kneeled next to him, putting your hands on your lap and turned to look at his face. Your stomach dropped and your throat tightened. Yoriichi wasn’t asleep, his eyes were blank, and not in the usual far off way. Blank as if someone had ripped his soul right out. His body sagged like a limp doll’s. You weren’t sure what to do, as much as you wanted to ask what was wrong, prodding him for an answer would be rude, no matter how kindly you asked. You reached over and lightly put your hand on his arm, if he was going to ask you to leave you would, but you wanted him to know you were here for him.
His eyes fell to your hand, “I found the one responsible for turning people into demons but I failed to kill him or the demon woman with him. And while I was gone….my brother turned into a demon. I’ve been banished from demon slaying. Some even said I should commit suicide. Master, who is a mere six years of age and is now our leader, would not allow that. I am sorry to further burden a suffering child…who has just lost his father.”
“But that’s not your fault Yoriichi…”
“I think…I was born with special strength for the purpose of defeating Muzan Kibustuji. But I was lacking. In the end, I failed. Because of that, many more people will die. And that pains me.”
Your eyes burned with tears, what were you supposed to say to comfort that kind of pain? Your heart wasn’t worried about thinking though, and you threw your arms around Yoriichi’s neck, cradling the back of his head. You felt Yoriichi press his forehead against your shoulder, felt the fabric become wet with his tears. You stroked his head right above his ponytail. Finally you found the words.
“You haven’t failed, one day Muzan will be defeated, and you’re the one who started that path for us. It wouldn’t be possible at all without you Yoriichi.” You blinked and listened, Yoriichi was no longer crying, but breathing softly. Tilting your head carefully you looked down. Yoriichi was fast asleep. You heard footsteps and looked over to see Rengoku approaching, his fire ringed eyes wide seeing how you were positioned. You put a finger to your lips and glanced down at Yoriichi as Rengoku walked over. You were relieved to see Yoriichi’s friend though, it meant that he was willing to help, and worried about Yoriichi so he wasn’t completely alone. He had you and Rengoku, and if you needed to leave with him, you would.
there will not be a continuation of this, just fyi
my thoughts about canon Tsugikunis
(will have manga spoilers!)
The Tsugikunis as a relationship are actually pretty nicely handled. I don’t really have many complaints with the writing between the two, well there are some things I would personally tweak to make their conflict stronger, but that would spoil a bunch of stuff for my Rewrite and also I really want to stay focused on the canon versions. However, as individual characters, my opinions vary.
I’ll start with Kokushibou since he’s, in my humble opinion, the more well-written of the twins.
I can totally see why many people would consider Kokushibou one of the top villains in this series (usually losing the top spot to Akaza). He’s so powerful and Gotouge did an excellent job of showing that by having four Pillar-level Slayers struggle against him in combat, as well as causing some of the most hard-hitting deaths in the series. And then you get his backstory threaded throughout the fight, and its like damn, okay.
I love that Michikatsu’s motivations and train of thought makes so much sense, why he blames and hates Yoriichi for being so much better and so beloved by all, why he grew so envious and coveted divine strength, and why he ended up defecting to the sides of Demons. We as the readers clearly see his internal drive committing him to act in the way he did, and I especially love how the narrative didn’t try to sugarcoat the things he did. He abandoned his family. He abandoned his moral code. He abandoned his own humanity (quite literally). He understood how much strife he has caused to the world in his pursuit for power, and he dies knowing he completely deserves such a fate. There is no undoing what he’s done.
So yeah, Kokushibou is a 10/10 character (Would have been 11/10 if he was a woman).
Then there’s Yoriichi, which I really should put a disclaimer for.
I love this character. He’s my top favorite in this series actually. If you all actually knew about the stuff I’ve come up for him for the Rewrite, you would also get the feeling that I’ve spent many a day rotating him in my brain for hours and hours.
But canon Yoriichi...
Okay, before I begin, I want to really establish what I believe one of Gotouge’s main themes of the series was. Teamwork makes the dream work. I’m bolding this because it’s relevant to Yoriichi and why he seemed to have failed killing Muzan, while the main KNY cast succeeded. That despite all the gifts, all the blessings, Yoriichi was never going to be able to defeat him because he didn’t have the power of friendship. There’s also the thing about how future generations will always surpass the previous ones, but it’s not as important as the teamwork theme.
And, like... yeah. That’s it. There is some intrapersonal conflict he’s dealing with, about how he could never protect people when it mattered most, but it’s very rushed and written as exposition, without any seemingly lasting consequences on his psyche. Like sure, he’s got a dead wife. A lot of Slayers have dead family. Did the event of her death change him completely or was it only to serve as a way to get him in the Corps? If so, that’s kind of a tame motivation, especially when compared to some other characters we know that do in fact change a lot bc of familial death (Shinobu). He doesn’t have any significant flaws that weigh him down, or make him screw things up. He isn’t written as human, save for the one scene where he cries holding the baby Sumire.
(... That’s it?)
If he was written less as a bodhisattva with a bit of human traits, and more like a human thrust into the position of a savior and was forced to fill the role despite being woefully unprepared, it would have certainly made his character feel less flat.
@keniaku bc you also asked for this lol
before sending a request, please check first if my requests are open or closed atm. you can find the current status it in the pinned post or on the very top of my blog in the header description.
sending a request doesn't guarantee that i'll write it. i'm very picky with them due past experiences and will only keep those in my inbox that i feel inspired by, it's never anything personal. keep in mind that i'm an adult with a full-time job and write very slowly. when requesting, i expect you to show some kindness and not treat me (or any other writer) like a machine - a simple hello and thank you go a long way. don‘t send me requests that you have sent other writers before. it‘s super rude („• ᴗ •„)
i take both sfw and ns.fw requests. however, i won't write ns.fw requests for anons, ageless blogs and minors. please respect this boundary of mine. smut will always be written with consent given from everyone participating.
character limit is 5 for headcanons and 3 for drabbles (fics under 500 words). for one shots (fics over 500 words) i'll only take 1 character per request. you can always give me more chars to pick from, but i gotta set a limit somewhere.
i'm open to write for any gender. unless requested otherwise reader is always gender-neutral (for sfw), the default for smut is afab. i usually write without using any pronouns and without being overly descriptive in looks for reader.
in general requests off anon will always be preferred! i just like to know who i'm writing for. the lack of feedback can often be disheartening and writing for a faceless person only fuels into this.
Hi! I keep seeing people commenting again and again that Rengoku's "Umai" comes from "ancient samurai did it to enjoy every meal as if it were their last one", but I can't find a reliable source on that. Do you happen to know if that's true or it's just one of those fandom rumors that spread around and everyone believes them? Did the Rengokus used to be samurai?
Tumblr media
I have... never heard this????? Granted, I don't stray from under my Tumblr rock when it comes to interacting with the wider KnY fandom, so that might be part of it. But I also have been a nerd for samurai since long before KnY might have been a twinkle in a gator's eye, and... I still have not heard this??????? Granted, I am but one nerd on the internet, so there's of course plenty I don't know. So I went looking into this on the Japanese interwebs, found a good handful of articles on the epistemology of the "umai" Rengoku uses and how the usage meaning can vary depending on the kanji it's written in, and...
Tumblr media
Again, that's not to say there's not something out there, but I couldn't find anything that implied that this started as a samurai-specific phrase with a highly specific meaning behind praising a potential last meal's tastiness. Setting aside the question of the word "umai," though, there is a lot of meat to this interpretation, though. There is a lot of samurai and Zen influence at work in Kyojuro's character, the Rengoku clan, and in Kimetsu no Yaiba as a whole.
Let's start with the question of whether or not Kyojuro (and everyone else in the Rengoku clan) is a samurai. I don't think this is an appropriate phrase for a number of historical reasons as well as reasons in canon. First, to my knowledge, the use of 侍 "samurai" in KnY is limited to context of swordsmen from warrior families (武家 "buke") who would have acted under the title of someone who is a career warrior under the service of a warlord. Child Yoriichi uses this phrase when addressing Michikatsu, saying he wants to be the "second strongest samurai." This is appropriate for them, for as warrior family, they have the social expectations of samurai to live up to. This was back in the Warring States period, but the definition of samurai was a building block of the whole social structure in the Edo period, and being tied in with politics would be problematic for a family committed to an unrecognized/secret organization. The Rengoku clan had their own illustrious family legacies to maintain, their own master they already served separate from whatever warlord is in power, and their own dire mission unrecognized by the political world. Rather than samurai, most of the time the demon slayers (or demon hunters, as they were more commonly called in Yoriichi's day before "Corp" existed as a military phrase) were referred to as swordsmen: 剣士 "kenshi." This is how Yoriichi referred to the Rengoku ancestor who found him after Uta was slain. That all being said, the Rengoku family clearly would had been influenced by samurai culture, so much so that acquaintances might assume they are of the samurai class. Besides the general attitudes, there are many subtle details that make the Rengoku household seem like a buke. You know how excited I was when watching the movie and I saw the garden in Rengoku-san's flashbacks and was like, "ahhhh, look at that, only evergreens, no fading flowers, that is totally a garden appropriate for a samurai abode." "But wait!" you might say. "Cherry blossoms represent the evanescent nature of the samurai, scattering in youthful warrior glory!" Pssh, yeah, that makes it a real inauspicious thing to have in your garden. Sometimes you want a symbol of a samurai's undying loyalty and stuff instead. But the constant awareness of death? Yeah, totally a samurai thing. And that's part of why Zen was so popular with samurai/swordsmen. The more you dig into the samurai psyche about death and constant preparation for it (as well as the struggle to be stoic about it, as opposed to fearing it or being too eager for a glorious death), the more fascinating things you find. Even proper hygiene for making sure your head is a fitting trophy from the battlefield! One method of stoicism found in Zen is mindfulness, and it's actually been on my mind lately how so much of Breath users' abilities does stem from mindfulness (emphasis on the five senses, embracing mundane chores like Tanjiro tending rice as it cooks, heck, even the tree-like state), which would lend itself very well to the interpretation that each meal should be appreciated like your last.
Like, that's one reason the tea ceremony was so popular a practice among samurai too. It draws you attention to the moment. And it's pretty realistic that you'll never encounter a moment like that again with the people you're gathered with. It's the same sort of the approach, and it can absolutely be applied to eating. There is a lot of more general focus throughout KnY on meditation being a source of strength, be it training under waterfalls, Genya repeating the Nembutsu prayer or Ruka practicing Kankagari (meditation done by expectant mothers in the Rengoku clan, staring at a hanging lantern). Breath itself is so, so, so, so closely linked to meditation. It's as though Gotouge is trying to extol the virtues of mastery of the self, and how running away with our passions (perhaps well-meaning, but misguided) is what will make demons out of us. And Kyojuro, who sees good reason for being sad over his father's state, stoically chose mastery over his own emotions. He does not let his potential inadequacies become a passion that rules his heart, and this gives his mind the freedom to adjust quickly to new situations. Kyojuro does tend to live in a state of being in the present, and that means being mindful of an grateful for the details of everything and everyone around him. He accepts not only that he may die protecting his juniors, but that he might also grow old and weak. He neither seeks or flees from either course.
To become a demon would be to let oneself be consumed by passions, ultimately losing that appreciation for our delicate existence. Maybe I wouldn't call him a samurai, but I would feel comfortable calling Kyojuro a 武士 "bushi" (warrior) (albeit the over-idealized bushi mindset took through writings of people who could only look back and admire samurai of the past, and project themselves onto them a bit, but I digress, that's an interesting but irrelevant topic). Not every samurai was a good one, especially as we trickled through the peaceful Edo period, being a samurai was just a happy accident of birth that landed you a civil service position. But for someone who accepted a bushi lifestyle, they accepted that death might always be near. While it's very easy for bushi idealism to be taken to a fanatical level (and for politics, it always has been), KnY lifts up the best of it, with mindful attitudes to strive for even without death constantly down our necks.
જ — rumor has it!
# 06 ༉‧ eye on selener
જ — a/n : a written segment has been added! i think this will end act one, we shall see what goes from there >:)
smau masterlist
✧ 。 synopsis : though hajime has reassured you time and time again that you two attending different schools would be plenty manageable in your guys’ relationship, your imagination is left to wander when he slowly begins to ghost you.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
⠀your stomach twisted at the sight of hajime's latest twitter post, feeling sick as you shook your head in both disbelief and self denial, shutting your phone off hastily and sinking into your bed with a bad feeling punching your gut. there was no way he was doing anything to hurt you. he'd never hurt you. why would he dare hurt you? after all the things you two have gone through as a couple, he wouldn't just... throw it all away, would he?
a foreboding atmosphere filled your room, suffocating your lungs as you shook your head to the empty audience, thinking about what the guys said. would it really be okay for you to ghost him, just like that? you trusted your boyfriend like no one else in this world, and for you to simply throw that away was complete nonsense.
but was it really nonsense?
aoba johsai and karasuno were in the same prefecture, so there should be no worries, it wasn't like you were moving all the way to tokyo or something. the distance between you two was plenty manageable, hajime made sure to reiterate that as much as possible on your first day of school. you were sad you could no longer attend school with the friends you grew up with, but meetings with them were never impossible.
something as simple as boba tea shouldn't make you worry so much like this, but there was nothing you could do about it, because kageyama was right - iwa never liked going to that place himself. whether it was just you two going or it was a whole group, he'd much rather prefer going with other people than stopping by himself. who else would he have gone with? tooru didn't seem to know, and though iwaizumi doesn't treat him the nicest, he still looks out for the captain as much as possible.
ignoring the nervous abyss in your stomach, you pulled up the simple twitter post and studied it. there was only one cup of it - his usual order - on display. while it was peculiar to look at, there was nothing else to be seen that could show off as a red flag. all you had to go off of, was your experience with your boyfriend, your intuition, and gut feeling. you hated, despised how your brain thought of the worst case scenarios as soon as possible.
playing into how distant he'd been the past few days and couple of weeks, was what feared you the most. if not the twitter post cementing your worries, the irregular texting patterns were playing with your head. you weren't the type to read too much into it - you trusted your boyfriend and he trusted you - but you couldn't deny that there was something fishy there.
turning your phone once more and placing it on your side table, you rolled to your side and took a deep, shaky breath. whatever was happening, you were hoping that it would stop, as soon as possible. just wake up from this nightmare, and continue being happy with hajime iwaizumi as your loving, thoughtful boyfriend.
until you could get your thoughts sorted out together, ghosting him was the only thing left for you to do. not the most ideal, and you prayed he'd never notice before tossing and turning, falling into a deep slumber for the rest of the night, hoping that a miracle would happen and this would be over soon.
Demon Slayer Renaming Continued
Thanks again to @cringeyvanillamilk for assisting me with this renaming project! I'd also like to give a shout out to @cryo-visionary, @spindaonateaspoon, and @loafingdragon for letting me bounce my thoughts off them while I was coming up with the last few names! These guys are good friends and wonderful creators! Please, check out their blogs!
Now it’s time to reveal the new names for the other Demon Slayer character for their migration into the world of Black Clover. Like with the Pillars, it was hard breaking down these Japanese names and finding names with similar meanings/feelings to them.
Thankfully, some of these characters are related to character already given their surnames so that takes care of explaining a few of them. Still, there was quite a bit of work to do.
As always, names written in Japanese are written with the surname first. Names written in English have the given name first.
Tanjirou Kamado (竈門 炭治郎): Tanjirou’s given name contains three kanji. The first means “coal,” “charcoal,” or “cinder.” Second is the character for “govern/regulate” or “cure/heal.” The final kanji means “son,” as we’ve seen in several other characters’ names. His surname is written with the kanji for “hearth” and “gate.” As a young mage a dual affinity for Water and Sun Magic, he would be... Conleth Coaler: The name Conleth is Irish in origin, meaning “chaste fire.” I like the alliteration of the name, it works with the “hearth” character in his surname, and it’s a reference to the Breath of the Sun being called the Dance of the Fire God. As for the family name, way back when, a lot of surnames came from people being named after their jobs. Since the Kamado family were charcoal sellers and Tanjirou’s name includes the kanji for “coal,” I decided to make his surname Coaler.
Nezuko Kamado (竈門 禰豆子): Although some people might think that the “nezu” part of Nezuko’s name is meant to mean “mouse,” the kanji written actually mean “sacred” and “bean.” The final kanji in her name is the one for “child.” Nezuko’s name as an elf host with dual Fire and Light Magic user would be... Lucasta Coaler: The name Lucasta comes from a poem of the same name by Richard Lovelace to the woman he loved. It’s a nickname for her coming from the Latin phrase lux casta which literally translates into “pure light.” It is fitting as Nezuko’s blood demon art is fire, creating light, and the idea of purity relating to the “sacred” kanji in her name.
Zenitsu Agatsuma (我妻 善逸): Zenitsu’s given name is written with the kanji 善 that means “virtue/goodness” and 逸 which means “flee/hide/lost/outstanding” (one of these things is not like the others). As for his surname, it roughly translates into “my wife” as the kanji (in order) mean “I/me” and “wife.” A lot of this is very straight forward and easy to work with. So, the name he has as a Lightning Magic user in the Amber Songbird squad is... Egil McBride: The name Egil seems to come from Old Norse, derived from the term “agi” which means “awe” or “terror.” It’s fitting as “awe” has positive connotations like the first kanji in his name while “terror” has negative connotations like the second kanji. As for that surname, you all are going to have to trust me when I say that I literally had a classmate with this family name. It’s legitimate. There is no way I’m not giving the name to Zenitsu.
Inosuke Hashibira (嘴平 伊之助): To start, the first syllables of Inosuke’s name are the same as the beginning of the Japanese word for boar (inoshishi). As for the meaning of the kanji, they are as follows: “this,” a possessive particle (think of it like an ‘s), and “assistance.” Hashibira is written with characters that mean “beak” and “peace/flat.” The name I came up with for Inosuke as a Beast Magic user wandering Clover Kingdom is... Boris Fritz: The first syllable of the given name sounds like “boar” just like how “Ino” is homophonous with the beginning of the Japanese word for “boar.” It’s also a shortened version of the Slavic name Borislav, containing “borti” meaning “battle” and “slava” meaning “glory” (how very appropriate for him). As for his surname, it comes from the Germanic element of "frid," meaning "peace."
Genya Shinazugawa (不死川 玄弥): The first kanji in Genya’s name means “mysteriousness” or “occultness,” which makes sense considering his, uh, unorthodox abilities in canon. He shares the second character in his name with Sanemi, which means “increasing” or “universally.” As before with Sanemi, the name Shinazugawa means “immortal river.” As the younger brother of the Jade Raptor’s captain, Genya’s name becomes... Runard Ambrose: This name comes from combining the Old Norse word for “secret” (rún) and the Germanic word for “brave, hardy.” The first half relates to the first kanji in Genya’s name while the second is fitting of his character. The name also makes an interesting parallel to his brother’s name (Adivar) since it means “truth.” It’s ironic since Genya is a more open person while Sanemi is the one to bury his feelings deep within himself.
Kanao Tsuyuri (栗花落 カナヲ): The trouble with Kanao’s name is that it isn’t written with any kanji characters, so there’s no easily defined meaning to it. Fortunately, like, Shinobu’s name, there are words that sound similar from which her name could come from. The words I found were the volitional conjugations of the following words: “to rival” (敵おう), “to match” (適おう), or “to be fulfilled” (叶おう) in regards to dreams or wishes. Her surname does have kanji which are “chestnut,” “flower,” and “to fall or drop” respectively. As a mage in the Wisteria Butterfly squad, her name would be... Filomina Castaniva: The name combines φιλος (philos) meaning “friend” or “beloved” and μενος (menos) which means anything from “wish” to “courage” to “strength.” The “wish” meaning relates to the possible meaning of Kanao’s name and the name overall is a reference to how befriending and falling for Tanjirou opened Kanao to her own desires and a greater strength. The surname is derived from the scientific name for the Spanish chestnut, Castanea sativa. I chose this specific species since it is the species of chestnut that grows in Europe.
Kanae Kochou (胡蝶 カナエ): Same as Kanao, Kanae’s name is written without kanji but we can find words with similar sounds and go off that. Her name is homophonous with the word for “a three-legged kettle.” Not the coolest thing to be named after but her name could also come from the same words as Kanao, but as the stems of the potential conjugations - 敵える, 適える, or 叶える. Kanae definitely fits with the last definition best since she had a dream to see humans and demons co-exist peacefully, even though she never got to see it through herself. With all this in mind, the name I gave her as the retired Wisteria Butterfly captain is... Desirae Danain: One spelling of the name Désirée which is derived from the French word for “to desire,” like a want. It think it's a good complement to the “kanau” meaning “to be fulfilled.” For that and how it connects to Kanae’s dream, I went with this name. I think in the world of Black Clover, she would instead have a dream of seeing the four human kingdoms and other races learn to live in harmony. She shares her surname with Shinobu, or should I say Patience.
Sabito (錆兎): Since we don’t know Sabito’s family name, there’s not much to work with. What we do have are the kanji 錆 which means “rust” or “patina” (which is that layer of green that forms on bronze, brass, or copper due to oxidation). The second character, 兎, simply means “rabbit.” From these kanji, I give Sabito the following name as the vice captain of the Cobalt Ocean... Payton Harrison: I’m basing this given name both on the fact that it vaguely sounds similar to “patina” but also on its meaning. While the sources aren’t clear, I’ve found that the name Payton supposedly means “fighting man’s estate” which is fitting of Sabito’s character. The surname simply means “son of Harry” which doesn’t mean much but it contains the sound “hare,” an animal related to rabbits.
Tamayo (珠世): Tamayo also only has her given name and two kanji to work with. The first character in her name can be translated as “pearl,” “gem,” or “jewel.” The second kanji is commonly understood and translated at “world.” As a researcher of forbidden magic and curses, and someone working against the powers of devils, I give her the name... Margareta Verelden: The given name is used in several languages such as Romanian, German, and Croatian that comes from the Greek μαργαρίτης (margarites), meaning “pearl.” Her surname is a combination of "verden" and "wereld," the Danish and Dutch words for "world," with the Dutch word being in its plural form.
Yoriichi Tsugikuni (継国 縁壱): Yoriichi’s given name is written with the characters that mean “fate,” “relationship,” or “connection” and then “one” (it should be noted that this “one” isn’t commonly used in day-to-day life and is mostly seen in legal documents). The first character in his surname means “inherit” or “succeed” (like a line of succession, not victory) and the second means “country.” Dustyn: His given name is an alternative spelling of the name Dustin which sounds like the words “destiny” or “destined” in connection to the first kanji of Yoriichi’s name. As for the meaning, that would be “brave/valiant warrior,” coming from Old German and Old English roots. Since in canon we don't see any elves with family names, I've opted to keep to that trend.
Michikatsu Tsugikuni (継国 厳勝): Michikatsu’s given name is written using characters that mean “strict” or “stern” and “victory” respectively. The first kanji works in relation to his personality, especially during his time as a demon. The second one is probably related to the fact that he was the chosen heir of their family and wanted to be the greatest samurai. Anyways, his name as the leader of the elf resurrection cult is... Viktr: The name comes from me corrupting the spelling of Victor, which is literally just one letter shy of the word “victory” and generally means “winner” or “conquerer.” Same as with Yoriichi, Michikatsu doesn't get a family name as an elf.
Senjurou Rengoku (煉獄 千寿郎): There’s not much to explain here as most of the kanji that appear in Senjurou’s name are also in Kyoujurou’s name. The only unique kanji is the character 千 which means “thousand. So, as the younger brother of Captain Eric Enfernus, he would be named... Ezeren Enfernus: The “ezer” part of his name comes from the Hungarian word for “one thousand.” Also, there’s a mountain named Mount Ezeren in Bulgaria.
Muzan and Tanjiro: Which one of us is the real demon?
Tumblr media
Muzan and Tanjiro like most hero and villain foils are written to oppose each other as direct opposites. However, as a writer Gotouge intentionally wrote an insane amount of details to show how much these two deeply foil and reflect each other as opposites. Everything from their motivations, to the ideas the characters each represent all reflect opposite themes in the story. I’ll explore this idea in more detail under the cut.
1. Empathy
Tumblr media
Tanjiro’s central definiting trait is his empathy. Even though he’s fighting against literal demons, he sees every last demon he fights as a human in the end. While he does not forgive them and still condemns them for their actions, he still acknowledges that all of them were humans at one point and tries his best to respect their feelings.
Tumblr media
He makes men out of monsters in their final moments. In their final moment he tries to be respectful to their feelings and show them the empathy they were denied in life, saving them in what little way they can. This is exactly in reverse to the way Muzan appears in people’s lives.
Tumblr media
Muzan always shows up at the weakest moments of the people he takes advantage of. He shows up when Kaigaku fell into despair over his inability to surpass his brother, he showed up when Akaza fell into despair after losing everything. Muzan acts the opposite way of Tanjiro. While Tanrjio kills the demons but offers them humanity and empathy in their last fleeting moments of life, Muzan gives them another chance to live but completely strips them of their humanity.
Tanjiro offers empathy and understanding to everyone he meets, Muzan offers it to nobody. You can see it in their reverse reactions to Yoriichi.
Tumblr media
Tanjiro understands that ultimately, Yorichii is a very melancholy person who just wanted to have a family, and a small amount of happiness but was again and again called to fight even though he hated it. He saw the human side behind the genius swordsman that was Yoriichi.
Tumblr media
Even though Yorichii failed to protect everything he wanted to protect, his wife and child, his own brother, even though he was expelled from the order of demon slayers Tanjiro wanted to tell him that his life was not a waste. To Tanjiro, every single individual life has worth.
Tumblr media
Muzan however, is only able to see Yoriichi as a monster. He only sees Yoriichi for his talent with the sword, breathing techniques, and nothing else. This is how Muzan sees people. He strips them down to their use. He could not care less about Yoriichi’s life story, the person he is. He sees the sword in his hand and nothing more.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Muzan sees all of the upper moons as existing entirely for his sake. They are tools. He refuses to see them as individuals. He sees them as merely parts of his own body. He gets frustrated when they can’t perfectly carry out his orders. No matter what they do for him he’s never satisfied, because they can’t act truly like tools.
Tanjiro will always see others as individuals with their own feelings and stories, whereas Muzan’s consists entirely of himself. That’s the central difference between them and that leads to the way they perceive themselves.
2. A Man and a Monster
Tanjiro’s greatest priority will always be the lives of other people around him. Muzan’s greatest priority will always be his own life. This is why Tanjiro has to absolutely reject everything about how Muzan is. This confrontation at the beginning of their fight is very telling.
Tumblr media
Muzan sees nobody but himself as a person, and Muzan doesn’t even see himself as a person. He equates himself to a force of nature killing indiscrimminately.
Tumblr media
Muzan denies his own humanity and denies the humanity of his victim. It’s important to remember the position these two begin the story at. Muzan is the strongest being in existence. Stronger than even the one who invented all of the breathing techniques. So strong he can instantly regenerate no matter how much damage he takes. Muzan simply doesn’t need to see other people as people. He believes his strength puts him in a position fundamentally higher than him. He seems himself as a mindless force of nature, a being above others, basically a god. He’s the embodiment of might makes right. Fighting against him is pointless because he’s so strong he can trample on whoever he pleases. There’s no need for him to regard the feelings of whoever he’s trampled on.
Tumblr media
Tanjiro who sees the humanity in everybody has to reject someone who acts completely inhuman. It’s important to look at their arcs and where they both came from as well. Both Muzan and Tanjiro started from places of weakness. Tanjiro since the start of the story has been told that if he’s not strong he doesn’t get to decide anything. He has no rights. He has no choices. That his kindness will only ever be an obstacle to him, a weakness that gets in his way and makes him unnecessarily vulnerable.
Tumblr media
Tanjiro is a character who has to continually fight his own weakness and struggle against it, how useless he is, how he cannot help the people he wants to help. His arc has been finding strength without throwing away his kindness, or his humanity.
Tumblr media
Then we see Muzan who made the exact opposite choice of Tanjiro. They both come from similiar circumtsances. Tanjiro is the lone survivor of an attack that killed the rest of his family while he was away, and even if he was there he would have been completely powerless to help them. Muzan is someone who was so sickly he was going to die before he was twenty. They were both weak and had no control over their own fates.
Tumblr media
Tanjiro has always blamed himself for his own weakness, whereas Muzan from the start blamed others. His very first action is to kill the man who only tried to help him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They were both weak and powerless once. However, strength is something that Tanjiroearns slowly, while Muzan is given it on a silver platter. All Muzan had to do was drink a magic medicine and suddenly he was the strongest being on earth. Tanjiro is someone who had to continually struggle against himself in order to go stronger.
Tumblr media
Muzan, always, always, always, blames his problems on the other people around him. The key difference between the two characters is how they obtain their agency, that is how they accomplish what they want to do. How they make their choices have meaning. The unfair world states the weak have no choices and no rights, so how do they reclaim both of those for themselves. Muzan gains agency by stealing it away from others.
Muzan thinks he should have the freedom to do whatever, because he lived most of his life sickly and always chained to a bed. His goal is always to preserve his own life at the cost of everybody else’s. That’s why he has absolutely no qualms at all at taking from others.
Tumblr media
Tanjiro is someone fundamentally who struggles to give to others. What he wants is to be able to do something that will matter to the others around him. Even their central goals are opposite. Tanjiro wants to return humanity to his sister. He’s spent his entire quest toiling for the survival of someone else to give them their humanity back. Muzan only wants to obtain something for himself that will make his survival more likely. Muzan from the start has only ever been concerned about his own survival, and only cares about continuing his life forever.
That’s why Muzan can’t comprehend someone like Tanrjio, or Yoriichi. He thinks individual strength means that you protect yourself and your own life above everything else. Muzan’s actions are always about continuing his own fragile life, obtaining the perfect immortal body so no one can kill him, and nothing else. However, Yoriichi and Tanjiro are both people who give all of themselves to others. He cannot even begin to comprehend how they fight with no regards to their own lives.
Tumblr media
Muzan is someone who lives in constant fear of his own mortality. Despite being the most powerful being on earth, he’s always afraid, he’s always hiding himself, and he’s always alone. He’s a coward ultimately. The only way Muzan can feel safe is if he has the perfect immortal body that can never be hurt or harmed and therefore he will never have to die. Tanjiro however, is someone who keeps on fighting long after Muzan has declared him dead. Not for hismelf but for others. Therefore he is incomprehensible to the demon. It’s extreme selfishness vs extreme selflessness, it’s more about the ideas that each character represents as they clash rather than the characters themselves.
Tanjiro carries heavy themes of existentialism. What gives his existence meaning is what he gives to the other people around him. Because he is able to have connections, even though he’s an individually small and very weak person his life feels like it meant something. Not only that but Tanjiro tries to give meaning to the lives of everybody he meets, no matter how small. He sees even small and weak people as people who’s deaths matter. Even people just quietly living their heads down matter to somebody. Tanjiro also sees himself as a part of the cycle with everybody. He admits that his own life is also small as well but even if he dies, he thinks the people he’s met so far will be able to continue without him. Tanjiro utlimately sees himself as a very normal person but states that normal people just living their lives have worth.
Tumblr media
Muzan sees everything as worthless. The demons take a very moral nihilism point of view. This is most embodied in Doma, but Muzan has shades of it too. The people who dead are dead. It ends there. There’s no meaning. Anyone can die at any time so why fuss over it? Tanjiro is trying to give worth to every individual little life he encouters, whereas Muzan is someone who strips away worth from everyone. And once again these are existentialist ideas. What is it that creates meaning in our lives?
Muzan views himself as someone outside of the cycle. He’s a natural disaster. He’s a storm. He’s a special existence outside of everybody else. It’s exactly because he sees himself as special that he sees everything else as worthless in comparison to him.
They also have completely opposite thematic ideas of mortality. Muzan sees death as the opposite of life. The absolute worst thing possible. His entire motivation is to avoid death in any way possible. Whereas, Tanjiro is someone who accepts his own mortality as a part of living. He knows full well that he may die. While he finds death to be a sad thing, rather than be terrified of it and spend his entire life running away from those feelings like Muzan he struggles to find a way to live on carrying the deaths of his comrades, the deaths of his family, and the knowledge that one day he will die because death is a natural part of his life.
This is a theme that repeats itself in the series again and again. The demons extend their lives long past the time they were originally supposed to die, but depsite living for hundreds of lives they live mostly empty lives that amount to nothing more than prolonging their own lives.
Tumblr media
Whereas humans who are much weaker, much more fragile, who die much younger than the demons do end up living lives full of other people because they cared about something more than just trying to extend their own lives and live for themselves.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The humans live short tragic lives, but they find a little bit of happiness from that. The demon lives long lives but they ultimately gain nothing from it in the end. Both humans and demons leave meaningless lives, but humans create their own meaning while demons just flaunt the meaninglessness of their own lives. They’re prolonging empty, miserable lives, devoid of all the things that make human life worth living. Muzan isn’t even a person, he’s just a void, there’s nothing in his life but himself. He’s strong but that’s all he is
Tumblr media
Muzan is ultimately someone who’s strength does not matter because he only uses it for himself. Despite being the strongest person on earth, he’s undone by simple tricks. He’s defeated by people who are far weaker than him. He’s undone by his own power.
Tumblr media
Muzan’s last ditch move to save himself shows him for what he really is inside. He’s not a demon, he’s barely even a person. Because Muzan’s priority is always protecting himself and never letting others in he’s basically reduced to an infant. He’s egocentric like a child. His point of view is the only one that exists in the whole world.
Tumblr media
Which is why Muzan dies alone without a single ally in the world. It goes beyond the simple shonen idea of “the villain has no nakama power” Muzan literally doesn’t see other people as people. He’s so fundamentally unable to connect to other people in the way that Tanrjio does that he’s infantile and immature. He’s not a demon just a total failure of a person.
⤷ GETTING  TO  KNOW  THE  MUN
NAME :   ariel NICKNAME :   ari FACECLAIM :   last time i just grabbed an icon i had on hand of an oc but........tanji tho PRONOUNS :   they / them HEIGHT :   5′ 9″ BIRTHDAY :   december 18th ♐ AESTHETIC :   cute halloween. pumpkins and broomsticks. cluttered shelves and dust in sunlight. foggy evenings and chill air LAST  SONG  YOU  LISTENED  TO :   funeral bell by PHILDEL FAVOURITE  MUSE(S)  YOU’VE  WRITTEN :   the muse i wrote for the longest time by far is an oc and I’m still very fond of them, they just need some reworking before i actually make them more public again
Tumblr media
⤷ GETTING  TO  KNOW  THE  ACCOUNT
WHAT  INSPIRED  YOU  TO  TAKE  ON  THIS  MUSE :   i immediately fell in love with this chara when we actually got to see more about him, even when it was--what turned out to be--the highly biased view of his twin. back then, i talked a lot with someone who wrote as koku, so it seemed natural to kind of fall into step and pick up this muse, and then i ended up enjoying writing him so much i came back lol he’s just??? such a lonely at the top trope, in which everything he has gets taken away from him, if not merely given, and he’s left with nothing, and i suppose I’m a sucker for taking such a chara and wanting to see them being given a different path
FAVOURITE  ASPECTS  OF  YOUR  CURRENT  MUSE :   he’s recklessly kind; he’s the one that will take a hit for someone else just to keep them safe, who will pause long enough to talk to a demon when he sees they’re “harmless”, who would give the haori off his back to someone in need. and he does it all without a second thought and even the refusal of any sort of repayment. i also really like how the sun/moon symbolism was done, in which instead of being exuberant and extroverted, the sun is calm and serene if distant, more like a gentle and warming sun
BIGGEST  INSPIRATION(S)  TO  WRITING :   music helps a lot, if i can find songs that are suitable for the muse/their chara. i’ve finally put together a playlist that helps, but also just??? talking to ppl and plotting with them. i get excited to see how our charas will interact, how they can be pushed in diff directions, how they could end up developing. fanart is also a big thing, or fics--and anyone who talks to me ooc knows how many fanarts i can throw around lmao
FAVOURITE  TYPES  OF  THREADS :   with yoriichi, i actually end up loving wholesome threads??? those glimpses of what he’s always desired and yet was never able to have, and how it causes him to end up so emotional from a otherwise very stoic character. also threads where his preconceived notions are pushed or he’s made to question them--for example, believing he’s uncared for or unnoticed only for a muse to grapple him down to fix his hair. i’m also mean and enjoy hurt/comfort or angst, esp with his story having so much of it in canon already--he lends himself very easily to those--
