it’s been a hot while! I’m busy with uni and maintaining my grades, med school studies, and life in general, but in the midst of it all…..

BRUHSTATION HAS REACHED 1000+ FOLLOWERS!!! WOAH!!!!!!!!!

truth to be told, this blog reached exactly 1000 followers back in early december 2023. I was planning on making a one shot comic, but ran out of time and energy and my follower count kept going up and up! so I decided to come forward about it now.

thank you all for your support for the one and a half year bruhstation has been operating! it’s still a bit shocking to me how much people take interest in this unofficial spinoff of mine through your asks, submissions, reblogs, and comments and how so many of you has made fan content like fanart, fanfic, and playlists while casa tidmouth develops. I can’t thank you all enough for your love and interest, and despite me getting busier everyday, you all still stuck around. I cannot express my gratitude enough for you all.

I’ve met a lot of amazing people in this community who kept supporting me and my friends even before I joined the ttteblr community also shared many joys as well! what I initially thought to be a quaint blog that’s not gonna last long has now garnered so much support and love!!! it’s been really fun!!!!

but here’s the thing! this little drawing of the 156 trio isn’t just what I have in mind! think of it as a starter for this 1k followers celebration because I want to give the followers of bruhstation something special.

so here’s my plan! I’m planning on holding a casa tidmouth popularity poll in commemoration of this four digit milestone.

the poll will be held through google form. it’s more of a questionaire if anything — the questions will be divided into categories like which character you like design wise, personality wise, etc… and you can vote for the character(s) present! not only characters — you can also vote for stuff related to the story (related to the questions given, of course!) there’ll also be other questions related to the blog itself (outside of the cstm universe) as well. yannow, blog improvisation and stuff. I won’t spoil much of my idea here, but I just want to see the public’s reception.

but before I go through with my plan, I’m holding an interest check to see how many people are interested in this popularity poll idea! so —

Yes, We're Doing It Again!

It's time for another round of steamy stories, art, and podfic celebrating the passion between our beloved Seeker and Shuttle. This year, we're switching things up by using a Discord server for the exchange. When assignments are given out, participants will also receive an invitation to join the server.

This year's schedule:

Sign-ups: February 3-10 (close at 11:59 PM PST)

Assignments go out: February 12

Check-Ins: This year we will be checking in with each participant individually to make sure assignments are on track.

First Check-In: March 1st. At this point, participants are expected to have chosen their prompt(s) and have a plan for how they're going to fill them. This could mean a sketch, an outline for a story, or (if you're a pantser) a general sense of where your piece is going. If you're a podficcer, you need to have chosen the story you plan to record.

Second Check-In: March 15. At this point, assignments are expected to be well underway (30% to 60% finished). This will be the final drop-out deadline, and assignments that have not yet been started will be reassigned to a pinch-hitter. We're being strict about this, because we want everyone to receive a gift.

Gift completion deadline: March 31. We will touch base with you once more to confirm that your assignment is complete and ready to be posted. The moderators can give feedback on request, but our primary focus is ensuring that each submission meets the prompt requirements and is fully finished.

Posting: April 8-12. You can post SFW promos of art to Tumblr, and according to Tumblr’s guidelines you can post NSFW text, so fic should be fine. You can post your completed art on Twitter without having to censor it, and you can post uncensored fic and art on AO3. The AO3 collection is HERE. It will open for posting when gifts are due. If you tag the Tumblr/Twitter account, we’ll reblog/retweet your posted gift.

All gifts MUST be posted by April 12.

Tell your friends, your family, your coworkers: Hockey is coming back (soon-ish), and so is the greatest of fandom traditions. Whether you're old or new here, welcome to You Could Make a Life Holiday Fanwork Exchange.

Once again, Ana and Pyry are working together to organise the event. We hope to see you all participate!

The format will be the same as years prior:

❄️What is this?

Just a pretty normal and chill fandom exchange to celebrate the holidays. In short, you create something for another fan and get something in return!

Anyone in the You Could Make a Life fandom can participate. You can check the wrap-up posts for 2019, 2020, and 2022, or check this blog's latest posts in 2021 if you want to have an idea of what people have previously created.

❄️What can I make/get?

The idea is to:

write fic of at least 1000 words; or

make 1 piece of fanart; or

make 1 playlist of at least 11 songs with a cover; or

make 1 gifset; or

create a short video edit (minimum 30 seconds); or

one complete and edited podfic of a text that is originally at least 1000 words;

one complete and edited podfic of at least 10 minutes.

You can specify whether you prefer fic and/or art when you sign up!

❄️ Why did you add videos and podfic as fanworks?

We have noticed a resurgence of the fanvid as a form of fanwork in recent years (due to fandom's shift to platforms such as Twitter, Instagram or Tiktok). We want this event to be open to as many people as possible, so we thought maybe there are some ycmal fans who are also great video editors! We still haven't received any video submissions, but this may be the year!

Podfic was a request last year and we think it worked pretty well, so it's coming back.

❄️What am I allowed to create/request?

Any pairing, theme and rating are allowed. However, since this universe is huge, please be flexible and include as many things you like as possible in the request and the offer. If you are only willing to receive an Owen/Jake time-travelling farmers AU, we may not be able to find you a suitable match! We may contact you if, for any reason, it’s impossible for us to find a match for you and we need you to think of more options.

❄️I don't understand podfic, tell me more.

It means somebody will record an audio version of a fic. If you are interested in receiving a podfic, you will be able to add links to works you'd like to have in that format (please make sure the author allows for this type of transformative work), or you could request any of your own fics.

❄️Timeline

Sign-ups are open now and end on October 4th 3pm EST.

After that, we will start matching people and you will be notified as soon as possible of the person you have been assigned.

By November 30th, we will be emailing you to confirm that you are still participating. If for some reason you cannot participate any more, please notify us as soon as possible, so that we can make sure we find a pinch-hitter.

The works will be posted between December 15th and 31st, in whatever platform best suits your work. Please make sure you inform us (tagging this blog, for instance, or via ask box/email) and the recipient. Everything will be shared in this blog.

hey i submitted the form a few weeks ago and was wondering when the information about the big bang came out. it's my first time, so i was wondering what the deadlines for writing submissions were?

Hey, anon! We're still working on getting our informational posts for this year put together. The interest check that you filled out was just that - the mod team checking whether anyone was interested in another Big Bang before we do a ton of setup work (definitely yes), and whether the number of people interested in the Big Bang was high enough to make the current mod team lose their minds (possibly yes, hence the new mod applications). I'm hoping to get the full event schedule posted sometime this weekend!

But broadly speaking:

Official sign-ups will run from March 16–April 6

The first real writing you need to complete is a summary of the project you hope to write for the Big Bang - due on April 14 after you join the Big Bang discord server (more details to come in an informational post during signups)

Big Bang teams will be assigned as early as possible, but no later than April 28

Between April 28 and July 6th, you'll write the first draft of your fic. If you have some writing done in advance, great! If you don't, you can reach the minimum word count for a 6k oneshot in that time by writing 600 words per week or a 10k multichapter by writing 1000 words per week

Between July 7 and August 25, you'll work with your team to get any necessary revising, editing, and proofreading done on your fic in time for posting on August 29–31

There will be a number of points between April 28 and August 25 when the mods will check in on your team's progress, but those check-in dates aren't 100% nailed down yet. We should have those details figured out by the time that the event schedule goes up this weekend, though!

My Sicktember Statistics!

If you were unaware, over on my AO3, I partook in the 2023 Sicktember writing challenge for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor, and it was really fun! I had a blast and will almost certainly be doing it again next year.

But! Over on the Sicktember Tumblr page, there was a little retrospective created by @ethereousdelirious I figured I would do now that the event is over.

How many prompts did you fill?

All 30 of the standard prompts. I didn't have the guts to write the alt prompts as well, although maybe next year.

Longest Fill:

Now I'll be honest, I don't know the exact word count of each chapter. Oops. If I had to guess I would say "But if you stay, you'll get sick too" and that's probably because I wrote that one first.

Shortest Fill:

I did try to hit just above 1000 words for each story. I really did. But a few came in around 950, and one of them came in at a whopping 736 words (yes I checked just for this post.) That would be Home Remedy/Old Wives Tale! Probably, because as I said above, I don't know the exact word count for all the chapters.

Favorite fill(s) and why:

My favorite prompt I did this entire event is probably "the only place we're going is a pharmacy." I adore writing Cal as a child and his relationship with Prauf, as messy as we all assume it was in the beginning. That and I just love the way I managed to portray Cal as closely to a drowned kitten as possible. If I had to pick two runners up, I would probably say Anxious Stomach (I loved writing that one because Cal vulnerable is my jam) and Side Effects/Adverse Reaction (Because droid dad. Need I say more?)

Least favorite fill(s) and why:

The reason for the first two, Consulting the Internet/Web MD and Cramping Pain are pretty similar. I just didn't like the way they came out. They're too short and messy and not my best work. Same goes for the third, "You're a jerk when you're sick" with the fun added bonus of it feeling painfully OOC. But they're up and I can't change them now, so they are my ugly duckling chapters.

Were there any prompts that challenged you in a fun way?

Pink Eye/Conjunctivitis was a tough but fun one because it was the only one with Kata, and I am not a parent in any regard. It was juts tough to start that one, but once I started, I finished it very fast, which was great because I didn't start it until the day before it was supposed to go up. The second one is definitely Curling up with a Pet, which I started, erased my half-finished submission, and then changed my chapter summary entirely because I had a better idea. Originally, BD was supposed to be the pet Cal curled up with, but then I remembered how much I wanted to pet a nekko, and thus the actual chapter was born literally three days away from posting it.

What, if anything, would you like to do differently next year?

I would love to do longer prompts! I was scrambling to start my senior year of college when the prompt list dropped and I was concerned because I had already planned a looooong and intense Whumptober story, so I would love to deep dive and write another thousand or two words for each prompt next year.

SUMMARY:  Story: Fifteen-year-old Taniya, the youngest of the Seven Stars, is planted at Duel Academia as a student by Kagemaru.  But with a relationship that’s perhaps not quite what she anticipated, a struggle with increasingly divided loyalties, and a cryptic prophecy, her hands are going to be full this year. 

Chapter: Asuka thinks that watching the entrance exams is just going to be depressing, only to get unexpected company.  Meanwhile, Taniya sees the guy of her dreams.

NOTES: This, like all of my submissions for this event, is a queued post since I will be on vacation during the actual Rarepair Week; I plan to post on Ao3 when I return home at the end of the month.  This is a canon-divergence AU, and it’s a pretty ambitious idea by my standards.  I’m not even sure I’ll be able to finish it, but I thought I’d at least post the first chapter.

If Tenjoin Asuka were to be completely honest with herself, she would admit that she wasn’t having fun watching the entrance exams.  Many second and third-year students, as well as first-year Obelisks who had gotten into Duel Academia via the prep school route or family connections, were in attendance.  It was kind of a tradition…this way, they could get re-acquainted with each other after the summer break and check out the incoming talent among those who had taken the exams.  This year, there was an added enticement: rumors of one young man who had scored an almost unheard-of 995 out of 1000 on the written exam.  Only one person in the history of the school had ever gotten a higher score than this, and he was the guy currently standing to her right: Marufuji Ryo. 

However, she simply couldn’t feel the anticipation like she knew she ought to.  All she could think was that Fubuki should have been standing here on the walkway with them.  He would have loved it had he been here, she was certain; cheering all applicants on regardless of rank.  But he wasn’t here, and things were awkward in his absence.  Ryo obviously felt it too: he hadn’t said a single word all morning, which was unusual even for him.  Therefore, all she had to listen to was the commentary from Manjoume Jun and his friends, who were sitting directly below her and Ryo. 

Manjoume was somewhat odd, she thought: rude to virtually everyone except Asuka herself, for reasons known only to him.  He put on displays of bravado that were convincing enough to newcomers, although Asuka had known him long enough to suspect that these were intended to hide deeper insecurities.  Currently, he was not in the least bit impressed with the crop of applicants they had seen thus far, and vocally made his displeasure known.  He had placed all of them so far in one of two categories: “boring” or “terrible.”  She had heard Manjoume telling one of his lackeys that he actually preferred the terrible ones, since at least their mistakes were entertaining to watch. 

“When are we going to see Number One?” he griped.  “That’s why we’re all here.  Are they really going to save him for last?”

Asuka briefly considered how satisfying it would be to yell at Manjoume to shut up, but decided against it.  She had a reputation to uphold, and was also feeling too gloomy to want to take any action.  Instead, she leaned forward on the railing, staring into space and hoping beyond anything that this would be over soon…

“Excuse me.  Is this spot taken?”

It was a female voice, rather low-pitched and with a hint of a foreign accent.  Asuka looked up sharply to realize that another girl in an Obelisk uniform had approached her from her left, and she had been too despondent to notice.  She thought that she remembered seeing this girl at the Obelisk Dorm orientation a couple days ago, although they hadn’t spoken to each other.  And really, her appearance made it so that she was not easily forgotten.  The primary distinction was her height and build.  The girl was significantly taller than Asuka, who wasn’t exactly short herself.  In fact, this newcomer was very nearly as tall as Ryo, and Asuka suspected that it was mostly his hair that put him over the edge.  She was also a little gangling; evidently, she had done a lot of growing in a short time, and the rest of her proportions hadn’t quite caught up yet.  Nevertheless, the girl had some impressive arm muscles, which were shown off well by the sleeveless uniform jacket. 

“No.  No, it’s not taken,” Asuka replied.  In fact, she was glad that this girl had made her appearance when she did.  Perhaps she could serve as a distraction.  “My name is Tenjoin Asuka, and this is Marufuji Ryo.”

The new girl smiled brightly.  “Borjigin Taniya.  Great to meet you!”  Her grin was so infectious that Asuka, as dour as her mood was, couldn’t help but to smile back.

“So…Borjigin-san…” she began, carefully attempting to pronounce the surname properly.  However, the girl waved it off.

“Please, call me Taniya.  Use whatever suffix you want, or none at all if you prefer.  I’m not picky.”

“All right.  Taniya, then,” Asuka amended.  “You can call me by my given name as well.  Did you go to prep school?  I don’t recall ever seeing you there.”  The Obelisks all usually knew each other, especially the girls, since they were only admitted via the prep school and were not permitted to take the entrance exams.  (This fact had always rankled her, honestly.)    She wasn’t certain how Taniya could have gotten into the school otherwise.

Taniya shook her head.  “No.  I grew up in Mongolia and only moved to Japan two years ago.  But I happen to know one of the teachers at the school, and he made arrangements for me to get a place there.”

“I see.”  Well, that was a bit unusual, and Asuka was pretty sure that this wasn’t the entire story.  However, this was Duel Academia, and Fubuki had told her that very few things were normal or usual there. 

Obviously, this meant that Taniya would fit right in.  Everything about her, from her two long braids of red hair that had obviously been carefully styled by someone close to her, to her forest-green eyes, to her large, pointed ears and golden-brown skin, had a bit of an otherworldly look to it.  There was something almost magnetic about Taniya’s charisma, too, and Asuka found it difficult to tear her eyes away despite knowing that she was staring.  However, the taller girl was observing her and Ryo nearly as intently.  Then, in a heartbeat, she switched back to her previous bubbly self. 

“Asuka-san.  Have you seen any cute guys here yet that I should know about?” Taniya turned to her, winked, and giggled.  Asuka felt her face warm a bit, and now even Ryo was gazing at Taniya curiously. 

“No.  Sorry,” she replied.  Yes, this Taniya was strange, and appeared to interpret the norms of polite conversation somewhat loosely.  But she could get away with it since she was so darn likable. 

“Hm.  That’s too bad.  I guess I’ll have to keep my eye out, then,” the taller girl said.  As they all turned their attention back to the testing arenas, a field was freed up and an announcement went out for the next applicant. 

“Number 119, Marufuji Sho, please report to Arena 3.  Number 119 to Arena 3.  Thank you.”

“Your brother’s up, Ryo,” Asuka commented.  She herself didn’t know Sho all that well; they’d grown up in the same neighborhood, had a couple of playdates when they were small, but had ended up going to different schools.  She’d only really gotten acquainted with the Marufuji brothers after Fubuki’s disappearance, and even then Sho had seemed almost intimidated by her. 

“So I heard,” Ryo confirmed.  Asuka thought he’d have been a bit more invested in his brother’s success.  Oh well.  She herself kept an eye on Sho’s duel off and on; although he’d gotten off to a slow start, he began holding his own after a couple of turns.  Then, they all heard the announcement they’d been waiting for. 

“Number 1, Misawa Daichi, please report to Arena 4.”

“Finally,” she heard Manjoume say.  He’d been right after all: Number 1 had been the last to get summoned to the arena.  Everyone craned their necks towards Arena 4 to get a better look.  Then, after a few minutes, they saw the platform on the floor below rise up to take its place on the arena floor. 

Misawa Daichi proved to be a boy of about average height, with a sturdy build.  His middle school uniform was either white or light gray; it was difficult to tell for sure from this height.  Neither could Asuka get a great look at his face, though he appeared to be pretty regular-looking from what she could see. 

Right then, she heard a very peculiar noise: a kind of elongated half-gasp, half-shriek that she thought sounded a bit like an amorous vacuum cleaner.  She looked over to her left, to see that Taniya had made the noise.  The redhead had fallen to her knees, and was staring at Number 1 so intently that a good portion of her face extended out from between the bars on the railing. 

She turned back briefly to gaze at Asuka, eyes huge and sparkling. 

“I found my cute guy!” she exclaimed.

Unbeknownst to Asuka, both Taniya’s vision and hearing were enhanced by her Duel Spirit energy.  She saw the fine details that others could not. 

This boy…this boy!  Those slate-gray eyes, and that square jawline, and his regal bearing…oh!  She thought that he went beyond cute…that in fact he may have been the most handsome guy she had ever seen in her entire fifteen years and six months of existence.

But it wasn’t his looks that drew her in the most.  Rather, it was the fact that he appeared to have no fear or test-taking nerves at all.  He had come here to win, not merely to try.  Truly, calling him a boy did not do him justice; no, he looked like a full-fledged man. 

She had never before met a male who made her feel this way.  The crush she’d had on Darkness’s host for a couple of months last year, which had seemed all-consuming to her at a time, now felt flimsy and juvenile compared to this. 

“I love him!” she said out loud as she removed her face from the railing and rose back to her feet.  Tenjoin Asuka and Marufuji Ryo both looked at her askance.  Oops…had she used too strong of a word?

“I like him,” she amended, although that word seemed woefully inadequate to express her sudden burning passion.  “Do either of you know anything else about him?”

“His name is Misawa Daichi,” Ryo informed her, in a deep voice that was almost monotone.  “He got the second-highest score in Duel Academia’s history on the written exam.  A prodigy in math and science, so I heard; good enough to possibly go straight to university, but he chose to come here instead.” 

Well, Taniya was beyond happy that he had.  Over in Arena 3, Ryo’s brother had managed to pull off a narrow win, although she scarcely noticed.  Not when she had this hunk to drool over.  Misawa had scored a good hit early on with his Vorse Raider, although the proctor now appeared to be setting up that most annoying of strategies: stalling. 

“Aw, come on!” she protested when the proctor summoned Big Shield Gardna.  “That’s against the rules!”

Ryo looked down his nose at her.  “No, it’s not.”

“Well, it should be!” Taniya insisted. 

“Keep it down, will you?” yelled the boy with the nasally voice who was sitting below them.  “Some of us are trying to watch here!” Taniya obeyed, but only so she wouldn’t have to listen to him again.  His voice hurt her ears. 

Meanwhile, the proctor had also summoned Gear Golem the Moving Fortress, and paid 800 life points to do the same amount of direct damage to Misawa.  He obviously thought he had this in the bag, but he had forgotten about Misawa’s facedown card.  Which was Ring of Destruction.  It was glorious, and it won him the duel.  Taniya did a little happy dance. 

The mystery nasally voice guy, whom Taniya couldn’t see from this angle, was still not impressed, remarking, “We should’ve just stayed at the campus.”  However, she barely registered his words, as she was too busy trying to get Misawa’s attention.

“Hey!  Up here!” she shouted.  Unfortunately, Misawa either didn’t hear her or was ignoring her.  He calmly left the arena and sat down in the area reserved for the students who had completed their practical exams. 

“Nooooo!  Wait!  Come back!  I wanted to talk to you!” She leaned so far over the railing that she might have fallen over it if Asuka hadn’t reached out to pull her back in the nick of time.  Thus thwarted in her attempts, Taniya slumped down to the floor and sulked a bit.  However, she wasn’t about to give up that easily.  They were going to a school on an island, after all.  It was only a matter of time before she’d be able to finally meet the object of her affections. He wouldn’t know what hit him!  Yes, she knew she had her duties and all, but who said she couldn’t have a little fun on the side while waiting for that?  It wasn’t like anything was going to happen soon.  They didn’t even have their seventh Star yet.

She was so absorbed in her planning that she barely registered all the fuss about the boy who had come in late.

We do not accept stories that have been published, whether in paper or on the internet. Do not send us stories we have rejected in the past. We currently do not accept translations.

Hard Passes While we love dark stories with macabre elements, we will not accept stories with gratuitous and graphic violence or rape, this includes any type of child abuse including sexual abuse. We will not consider stories that have extreme, purposeless violence toward animals. We do not publish erotica or thinly-veiled fan fiction. Stories sent outside of the reading periods will be deleted unread. Stories or poems with attached/embedded images or graphics files will be deleted unread. Our Themes & Reading Periods – 2024: Apparition Lit is open for poetry and short story submissions four times a year. Our submission periods are extended by a week for BIPOC creators only. BLIGHT (Submission period: November 15-30, 2023  CLOSED – Publishing January 2024) MERCURIAL (Submission period: February 15-28 CLOSED – Publishing April 2024) ANACHRONISM (General submission period: May 15-31 is CLOSED – Publishing July 2024) HARBINGER (General submission period: August 15-31 is CLOSED – Publishing October 2024) Please note that we will not accept AI-generated content submissions. This includes stories or poetry that are written or co-written by AI. We will only accept previously unpublished, complete stories between 1000-5000 words. If the story is complete with an extra hundred words, then it will still be considered. Any stories over 5,100 words, excerpted from a larger work, or incorrectly formatted, will automatically be rejected. We are now accepting submissions through Moksha. Please follow the guidelines below when submitting your work: Format the story using theShunn manuscript  — you do not need to include your physical address or phone number. Please only use Times New Roman or Arial font in your document. Name the file using the story title and your last name, i.e. THE SWAMP EXCHANGE_Barker. This helps us find your story in the submissions list. Provide a brief cover letter that includes your full name, the title of the short story, word count, and any relevant publications. Please do not include a synopsis. All acceptances and rejections will be emailed by the 15th day of the following month after submissions close. We currently do not have the available time or staff to provide personalized feedback on rejected submissions.
