This is going to be long and probably somewhat inflammatory. Let's get the horny part out of the way—blonde Chaewon is hot, and also quite adorable.

Personally, I feel like with every comeback, the quality is dropping. I don't watch MVs for hot outfits, I watch them for the art that it is. The MV itself is quite artistic and I love it. However, I'm going to go into my thoughts on it + some of the opinions I agree with. It's probably going to get some mad, but like... I trust the lot of you to not make my ask box a Twitter timeline.

I like the song on it's own—if I don't think that it's the title of a comeback, I really like it. I'm a rnb type of guy, so rap beats like these are right there up my alley. The instrumental is really nice.

However, read it carefully: I like it if it's just a single, not the title of a comeback. The problem here is that it's a fucking title, and not the B-side to a great album. As a title, this is just underwhelming when I know the standard is Antfragile.

I haven't given the album a listen yet, and I'm not even sure I want to. I've heard it's been a miss for a lot of writers who actually care about the music, with criticisms about the (over)use of autotune. The mad part is, I'm at a point where I'm happier to listen to NMIXX than LSRFM. This was not the case a year ago—I used to think NMIXX was unlistenable with the absolute sleep paralysis demon that O.O was (I'm aware that it's two different songs. I haven't listened to them yet though, and I'm told they're amazing), and now I listen to Dash and the album that it's part of, as well as Party o'Clock when it comes on. With LSRFM, I wouldn't skip Antifragile and No Return, and (actually i grit my teeth because it wasnt that good but i still can tolerate it occasionally) Unforgiven. It's sad that I'm caring less about em musically and being happier that LSRFM looks like fap fuel. That's really not why I'm here as a fan.

At this point, I might as well be disappointed already every time they announce a LSRFM comeback. As other writers have said, it's feeling a lot like they're a stripper group and not a band anymore—choreo is horny, fits are horny, and the concepts really just horny packaged as music.

Now, on to happier stuff—my thoughts were doom and gloom. Yunjin put out an insane collab with MAX, and I recommend that everyone checks that out. It's a beautiful song.

i was excited when i saw Mike and Jeff (and Ten and Jackson) were going to be on Chuang Asia together but i did not EVER expect multiple shows and projects from them and i'm SO stoked.

i know not everyone in the BL fandom spheres know who Mike is yet but he was in one of my fave dumb Chinese dramas (My Little Princess, and listen it does a really great job of inverting a bunch of popular romance tropes and it's great and funny and cute actually) and i love himmmmmmmm

he's also in one of PP Krit's mvs and it's real pretty so go watch that if you haven't seen it!

Mike was primarily acting in China before the pandemic and until a couple years ago, but he has a young son and the rest of his family is in Thailand from what i know, and it seems like he's shifting into working in Thailand instead of working internationally. and we don't have any actual -confirmation- if either of these shows are going to be BLs or QLs or anything that i know of (tho Happy Ending seems the most likely because of Jeff's and Barcode's characters) but i'll take whatever he's ready to work on because he's great.

i'm so ready for the beautiful things that this beautiful friendship is already turning out like we are all just going to be BLESSED. i hope Mike and Jeff work well together and have a great time and everything they touch turns to gold (and that Jeff talks Mike out of making any more bad mvs) and we get two besties making shows together for a long time. i hope they get to work with all their friends whenever they want and keep pulling in ridiculous collections of actors and talented people to work with them because WHAT THE HECK EVEN ARE THE CASTS FOR THEIR SHOWS like it's actually insane?

i'm also super here for Jeff having been like “i'm out of BOC to focus on singing” and after doing a bunch of successful music stuff, concerts, dropping an album, now he's doing a bunch of acting on his own like yes, get it king, follow your heart and make your own shows since BOC didn't appreciate your talent or give you enough work to do! make all the shows you want, play whatever kinds of characters you want! we're all here for it.

Initial Thoughts on TXT's Minisode 3: Tomorrow

Overall I think this album sounded the most sonically cohesive from their entire discography so far! I haven't read the articles about the album yet but it seems like they've deviated a bit from their usual approach of exploring different genres in a single album and kinda stuck to more of a band sound this time around?

Sure, they experiment with layers and singing styles but I’ve really felt (and liked!) the band influence across the different tracks!

The way the music builds in each track is delightful albeit seems a wee predictable. I am a sucker for a good guitar and bassline though so this album suited my tastes

Currently (and surprisingly) my favorite track upon first listen would probably be Deja Vu (Anemoia Remix)! I honestly wished the remix ver would have been the title track instead 🥺

The original ver is probably more palatable for general population though and lends itself better to their type of choreography than the Anemoia remix would so I understand why the title track is so.

My favorite track off this album would likely change after I’ve read through the lyric translations and give the album a few more listens.

If I’m being honest, I think this album would be more of a slow burn type of in terms of how quickly it grows on me, compared to their earlier releases (particularly Temptation and Freefall).

I’ve genuinely enjoyed these tracks! But I can’t say that I loved the album and I think a factor in my tempered response to Minisode 3 is just how short they all are!! 😩

The entire (mini) album’s duration is just 17 minutes for 7 tracks!! It felt like just as I was getting into the groove and spirit of the track, it just… ends 🥲 IMO, these shorter track durations may end up hurting them in the long run as they sacrifice the listening experience for convenience of streaming 😔

That said, it makes Deja Vu an impressive feat that it has such a cinematic and immersive feel, and done in less than 3 minutes!

In any case, I will be listening to these tracks more and am looking forward to catch their performances throughout this comeback!

I've been avoiding Tumblr and Twitter since I haven't watched AYS yet... I have no excuse... it just never felt like the perfect moment, you know? But yesterday I bought my ticket to I Am Still! Should've done it sooner, the tickets were almost sold out, oops...

Anyway, this is a big day for kpop, with many songs dropping, but sadly not hitting for me.

Neva Play was a bit disappointing- Megan is an amazing rapper and she's a very clever lyricist, but her lyrics are always about the same thing and often sound misogynistic. She's very hit and miss, but her solo songs can be very good (I really love Hiss). I also think her voice doesn't go with RM's. It's bright and snappy whilst Joon's tone is smooth and has a bit of a drawl? I didn't really get RM's lyrics. The vocal production on his part was very weird too. The song would've been better if it was just Megan or RM's, but the both of them don't match? They give the same vibes but different frequencies lmao. The song is good, but underwhelming. I like it the more I listen to it. The weakest part is by far the chorus, which is annoying. The song ends a bit abruptly too and the structure is basic - Megan raps, then Joon raps. it. It was less of a collab and more of a copy and paste of vocals. Sadly, most collabs are like this. I just think they had an opportunity to gag everyone and delivered something pretty basic.

I also checked-out MEOVV's debut song, which was... not even bad enough to stand out. They looked like a cheap NJs and BP cross-over. The MV was crappy, the song was not age appropriate, and the lyrics sounded ridiculous coming from rookie idols...

Baekhyun and Chanyeol also came out with songs and both are unmemorable to me. If I didn't know any better, I wouldn't guess Baekhyun left SM. All these soloists leaving SM, but their music and concept stay the same. I hope everything else is worth it.

The year is almost over, so I believe this is the perfect time for a song recap!

The girlies have been pretty busy this year as we have songs in Korean, English, Japanese and Mandarin Chinese!

•Hur Young Ji's "L.O.V.E.", from her digital single album, "Toi Toi Toi"

I still haven't figured out why DSP thinks that's how her family name is spelled in English, but Youngji's (third) solo debut was by far my favourite re-release of TAEYEON's "Weekend" this year! I love the colours, I love her hair, the looks and I even like her Bora-esque talk-rap segment after the first chorus!

•SUNMI's "STRANGER", from her digital single album of the same name

Sunmi has mastered the art of delivering gorgeous MVs and visuals, that's for sure, but I'd be lying if I didn't admit I was a bit disappointed. I like the instrumental she used for the chorus, and since it was the segment playing in the teasers as well, I thought she was gonna give us "Tim Burton movie OST realness", and she did... But then she went and mixed in a completely different instrumental for her verses and bridge and another one for the pre-chorus. Girl why 😭

•TAEYEON's "To. X", from her mini-album of the same name

Taeyeon is continuing her reign as the queen of second gen with her moody breakup songs and I wouldn't expect anything less from her. Not her strongest effort yet, but still fun to listen to.

•HYOLYN's digital single, "This Love" (feat. Random Guy No. 8)

Hyolyn is the queen of cunt, but it's still a nice change of pace when she releases cutesier / less sexy songs. The guy being a dog in the MV was a hilarious twist too!

•Sandara Park's "Festival", from her self-titled digital mini album

Dara finally released the mini she has been teasing for a while now and had her solo comeback after FOURTEEN years! I hope this isn't a one time thing and she actually releases more music. She may not be the strongest vocalist, but Dara was always an idol's idol like, she would do the 2NE1 choreos while looking gorgeous and serving face and smiles so solo projects like this re-release of TAEYEON's "Weekend" are the perfect chance to showcase more "stereotypical", if you will, K-pop visuals and concepts that we wouldn't really get out of 2NE1. And she even got Uhm Jung-hwa, one of her own idols, to cameo on the MV, sampled her song for this comeback, and got to guest at her concert! Way to go Dara!

•HYO's digital single, "Picture"

A solid release from our resident DJ, although I still think her early works and the unhinged "DESSERT" haven't been topped yet. At least it wasn't "Second", I HATED Second.

•SoYou's "ALOHA" (feat. Bora), from her mini-album, "Summer Recipe"

Soyou giving us "Queen of summer"! YES! This is definitely among my favourite releases this year. It's catchy, it's summery, it's dancey and she's SANGING as usual. The fact that she even got Bora to do the most unhinged 3 second rap of her career for this is iconic! A bit disappointed she's not in the video but I guess maybe appearing for just 3scs wasn't worth it... Still curious how Hyolyn convinced her to do just that for the upcoming SISTAR19 comeback. Maybe she promised her she'll sing as much as Dasom did for "Summer or Summer"?

Also, you know what I was thinking?

This is probably delusions of a senile homosexual, but having a SISTAR19 comeback in the middle of winter is weird. I know Hyolyn did previously release a summer-themed Christmas song but... What if this is a prelude for a SISTAR full group comeback..? Think about it!

•Park Bom's digital single, "I" (feat. A Victorian Era Ghost)

Yes Bommie! This was BEAUTIFUL 😍❤️! I love that she seems to have regained control of her voice in her recent releases? In the years after her comeback with Dara her singing sounded a little... Off? But since last year she seems to be back on track! She even actually got to appear in her own MV this time, I'm so happy!

•Jessica's "BEEP BEEP", from her mini-album of the same name

Okay, this is definitely my favourite song of hers so far like... Yeah, this was the third version of "Weekend" for the year but I don't even care, she nailed it. It's fun, it's cute and she SINGS her ass off. Yass cunt!

Now PLEASE release something more dancey and edgy, bitch..! I'm still not over that one performance of "How Deep Is Your Love" where she was serving c word all those years ago but then NEVER released anything remotely close to that like... what gives girl??

•SoYou's "Digital Single That Doesn't feature Bora"

Soyou had another release this year before her summer comeback that didn't get as much publicity. It's a much more mellow song and not cunty but she gets to showcase her voice and it's a nice song to listen to.

•Nicole's digital single, "Mysterious"

Okay, this I think might be my favourite song overall this year! Nicole picked up on the "YOU.F.O." and, of course, "MOVE AGAIN" momentum from last year and she definitely delivered! She is so mother in this it's insane. Gotta love that bass!

•Nicole's physical single, "Selfish"

And she continued with a Japanese comeback this time! It even charted decently in Japan, like top 20, I think? So girl SLAYED! Glad to see they still got it with Japan. Amazing.

•Amber Liu's digital single, "No More Sad Songs"

A good song from miss Amber. I think her Chinese fans must have liked it too because she also released a Mandarin version. Definitely her best out of the ones she released this year although, if I'm 100% honest, Amber's music is kind of middle of the road for me? It's not bad, it's not amazing, it's just okay. Good for her that she's still at it and doing her thing though.

•Raina's digital single, "The Way We Were"

Raina is back girlies! Glad to see she's still representing the After School girlies in the music scene as she's the only one still releasing music here and then. Luckily, this time she didn't have to resort to collabing with Trash E for this song!

•Amber Liu's digital single, "hatemyself"

Okay, this one is the darkest of her songs yet and, for real, I know everyone has been dragging Amber through filth ever since that stupid pro-cops comment she made, and she definitely deserved the backlash for that, but it did get pretty ridiculous after that like, I can't help but feel for her. She wasn't my favourite f(x) member, her solo music is not my favourite either but I do genuinely hope she is okay?

•NARSHA's digital single, "BLUSH"

Okay so, at first I was like "Is this bitch really making her first solo release in thirteen years a ballad?" But then she released "GAME" so the balance of nature was restored, but other than that this song genuinely did grow on me. It's a nice song and it really fits her voice and breathy singing style.

•Meng Jia's "KNOCKOUT", from her mini-album, "JIALAND"

So, Jia seemingly decided to release the most UNHINGED song of hers yet this year. The production is messy but in a "so messy it's good" type of way. The red hair was a serve and this was a very fun song. Except that weird change at the very end, what the fuck was that for? Someone deserves to get fired for that, she should change producers.

•NARSHA's digital single, "GAME"

I want to once again publicly apologize for ever doubting mother. This was a song for the ladies and the gays only and I know and love that she 100% knows it herself and owns this fact. BEG are among the cuntresses in the K-pop industry that actively and openly acknowledge their LGBT fanbase and regularly release songs about female empowerment and feminism in a non-performative and genuine way, so this was definitely a gift for us and I love her for that.

If you will indulge my delusions for a second time, I'd like to think that, like SISTAR, those OG hags are cooking up some new group music and Narsha's very unexpected comeback is a prelude to the group's.

•Nicole's "Gravity", from her single album of the same name

This is definitely not as strong as the other two releases this year but it doesn't matter because we shouldn't be greedy and it's still a fun song so it's all well. Bold move to release a summer song way out of season again too.

•Jea's digital single, "Congratulations to You"

This is a very sweet song honestly. JeA said she wrote this all the way back in 2010, I think, as a means to cheer up herself for all the things she had already accomplished and her future self if she was ever feeling like she wasn't doing enough. I think she also said she had been singing it live regularly whenever she was performing, she did have a solo concert either late last year or very early this year, if I'm not mistaken, and she decided it was time to release it properly.

My only minor complaint is that the "be happy day to you" part kind of takes me out of the sentimental moment 😅😭 I know nonsensical English is the bread and butter of K-pop, and I will forever be grateful for lyrics like "I'm so bad girl I'm so cool girl I'm so sexy sexy sexy girl" or "fire in the hole when you touch me down there I'm not feeling very well so hot in down there" or "kiss me baby I'll must be stay here day by day" but for such a personal and sentimental song she maybe should have had someone double check it, just this once 🤣

•Wang Fei-fei's digital single, "Distance"

Fei seemingly decided that she should give the others a chance and not serve cunt, not mother, but take it slower and chiller instead this year. A good effort, but I had come to expect a bit more from her if I'm being honest.

i'd forgotten to preorder it because i was convinced it came out in september-- there was to be no new music in the week between the simone solo and the new nick cave and the bad seeds album, i was sure it was divine law!-- but i took a lil walk this morning to listen to it and bought it the instant i got home lol. i knew i'd at least like it because i liked the singles a lot-- pendulum is good in its own right but the mv is just like, exactly why i stick around with sympho-- but omg what an ALBUM!!

one thing i've been thinking about a lot recently as the new epica album announcement looms closer is that a lot of major symphonic metal bands really need to dial the symphonic back. you may have once or twice or perhaps for a year of your life heard distant rumbles of me insisting they should all give industrial metal a spin. i'm saying this because opera seems to me to be a more committedly symphonic album than fleshgod usually turns out-- though i may just be biased by the instrumental intro and outro tracks-- and yet i don't think it really suffers for it. like matricide 8.21 is a bit limp but not bad. and oh my god at war with my soul rips so severely!!!! love the drumming. this is a very surface registration but i think it's always a good sign that a symphonic metal band can turn in a song that feels like you're getting your head kicked in-- increasingly rare these days.

one thing i'm fascinated by is the broader concept here-- i haven't read much of the press for the album but while i get that opera is a reference more to form than concept (opera lirica which i gather is a descendent of opera comedie, hence the occasional spoken word and spoken-word-adjacent parts, and i think as well the more distinctly symphonic aspects. since symphonic metal rarely distinguishes between like, opera, neoclassical, and the lineage of movie scores, a distinct kind of neoclassicism.), i do NOT at all understand what italia turrita is doing on the cover. like the vibe is very sabaton carolus rex visually and then literally everything else about it is francesco paoli writing a really quite incredible metal opera about a near-death experience while mountaineering? i remember being baffled by this when they first dropped the absolutely nuts il tricolore vinyl variant and i thought the album would explain it. and somehow, not even a little bit.?

also mixed and mastered by jacob hansen who i was vaguely aware of for some of my favorite sympho albums-- diabulus in musica's argia, epica's tqe (unfortunately also the holographic principle!), all of the early good pythia stuff-- but who i am also discovering is like, maybe the only good part of a series of recent sympho releases i did not really vibe with (latest xandria album, most of kamelot's most recent stuff, post-ailyn sirenia). which i just thought was fun bc i do think, to the extent that i have any valid judgments to pass about music production, that making a sympho album that sounds good is genuinely quite a feat!

The Unforgiven era. That entire album has great songs, which gave us great performances and medleys at award shows as well. All the fashion was perfect, the choreographies were just easy enough to dance along to, and it really cemented them as a proper group in the industry.

Fan's entitlement and fan's expectations have brought a lot of negativity to the group. Fans had ideas and expectations of the group that they never suggested they'd meet or reach. And when they didn't, fans (and haters) got mad. It's just really silly to think a group is designed to cater to a fan's needs. The fan decided to listen and to commit to a group, so it's the fan's responsibility to manage their own emotions, not the other way around.

no I get you so much here especially. Being a fan(girl) is so so much fun, you get to watch content, listen to music, learn about the members, go to concerts, collect merch, and meet other fans. There's a whole culture and community around it that, when you first get into kpop, it's so exciting. It's unsurprising people would get obsessed at first.

But yeah, I personally get really excited watching their content or over an idol (ahem haechan) when on my own, but whenever I meet them in person it's like all that excitement disappears and I'm like, 'oh, they're just a guy/person...', and it's really chill. and this suits Tae, something about him just gives off not interested in the K-pop space. In fact, the only member I think who actually respects K-pop is probably Jimin. I judge this based on the artists they look up to. Jhope & RM like Jcole & Nas, American rappers. Forgot who Suga likes. Tae looks up to older jazz artists. JK likes American pop artists and Jimin likes Big Bang & independent artist. Idk about Jin honestly.

I’ve listened to Jimin’s playlist on AM: Springtime sounds and none of these songs are big title tracks/ singles. These are low key artists singing about their lives and loves. Jimin listens to Alec Benjamin, a guy with a great voice, small but loyal following and purposefully left the music industry behind after making a breakout hit so he could sing about his stories. My flex is that Jimin and I listen to the same type of music.

Went off on a tangent but my point is: These guys obviously have different views as to what a successful artist is. And they are all following that path. I think for Jimin a successful artist is producing good music for loyal fans rather than a general audience. I could be wrong of course. If so, Like Crazy’s success would be heartwarming as everyone and their mama knows that it’s carried by fans sharing & streaming.

The funny thing with Jimin though is that even if he tried to be a low key artist he couldn’t. Yes he does his own thing, sings about his story, doesn’t get major airplay and is listened mainly by a loyal fanbase who lives him and shares his music.

However his loyal fanbase is hugeee, so by virtue of that he’s left the lowkey artist category and also the K-pop category behind. What you mean you wanna release your long awaited album as an mp3?

Thinking about that sometimes makes me laugh. Jimin just wanna be lowkey, regular K-pop male artist singing his tunes then boom #1 on hot 100, Ryan Gosling giving him a guitar, song going platinum in the states(I’m calling it), fans demanding to buy his song. To be honest i kind of find Jimin fans funny. He said in Suchwita he wants to top billboard continuously. And everyone kinda knew he meant as BTS but his fans said “oh YOU want it? Ok, this is the only ask I will answer regarding Tae's music so don't come sending more, please!

I don't want to answer Tae music stuff, other anons!

But I'll answer this one because I appreciate that you took time to share all this.

First question. Our opinions vary greatly.

I think with how competitive kpop is, you need that big trigger, especially if it's a debut album. Tae needed to risk it but didn't. For me, this all feels safe although it wasn't intended to come across that way.

I think that his visual album should have been released all at once. I know this way is done to create anticipation but I haven't been pulled into his story yet. Maybe that will change once the 3rd mv is released or his photos tie more stuff together?

It's interesting that you find the aesthetic fitting because I don't lol I do agree that Tae is not kpop at all but this album concept feels off to me. Like it's fabricated and doesn't show the real Tae. I feel like his fans would appreciate that. Perhaps the concepts worked for New Jeans since it's quirky cute. And I remember writing a few weeks ago how Tae had changed his style and if that was reflective of what he would show in his upcoming album. And we are seeing change but not in any sort of direction. I don't see the essence of Tae in this. Or his new style.

I like to see the essence of the artist even in their on-stage personas. I'm not seeing it here.

But maybe this is just me being intense as usual.

Second question. Jimin. I do agree that Jimin tries to tell stories through his songs and he does that beautifully. Even if his songs differ greatly, like Promise and Set Me Free pt.2, they both have that air of Jimin in it. But I'm not being biased, I'm not a fan of both.

I do think the pandemic caused the change in direction of Jimin's artistry. But I hope that he has seen the reception, BB charts and worldwide records, and sees that his music is meant for a wider audience even if the stories are personal to him. We can see that FACE was his struggle and rebirth so I'm looking forward to his next album, which he said was going to more upbeat.

With the right team and tools, his songs can achieve greater success. It is heartwarming that Jimin lovers are still carrying his song still. It's our token of love and appreciation but I hope that the his next project has the company support he deserves added to the fan support he has rightfully earned.

I guess you've already listened to h2ao acoustic and... OMG I LOVE IT. Madison is gorgeous and her voice? Hello? The voice of an angel. She sang with so much strength and feeling. i loved it. And how cute was Presley? Awww he even had his headphones on, what more could you ask for?

And OMG, YES I'm livin with the podcasts Mads is doing. Especially the Pretty Basic podcasts, I haven't finished listening to part two yet, but I love them. I'm finding them so enjoyable and fun...it's like a girlfriend conversation that I'm a part of too even though I'm just listening, you know? It's great. And I loved that they touched on the hate Madison has received with the publication of her memoir and how she's taken it

Wow yeah, The scene in h2ao where Mads is in the UFO in the white suit is superior. She looks so beautiful! I don't know about you, but to me that scene gives me vibes to her scene in the Baby music video, when she's wearing that little moons suit, you know? I don't know why, but I feel like there's a certain resemblance between the two

As for the ranking... my top for the song itself is: 1- Reckless, 2- Dangerous, 3- Home to Another One and 4- Showed me. Although I love them all obviously. And as for mv I'd say Reckless is still in first place (it's one of my favorite Madison songs, if not the most and I hold it close to my heart) 2- Home to Another One, 3- Showed me and 4- Dangerous

Initial Thoughts on TOMORROW X TOGETHER's The Name Chapter: Freefall

Ok so i just listened to TNC: Freefall in full and damn, okay. Really solid album, sonically. And i say sonically bc i haven't read up on the lyrics just yet (i don't think the eng trans are out yet ☹️)

Am loving how they're showcasing more of their vocals (txt lower register enthusiasts, we are being fed at last 😭) and the whole band/session feels of the music really emphasizes that.

can we take a minute to talk about beomkai's vocals?? bc i really think this might be their era 🥹 and seeing as all of the boys have at least 2 credits to their name in this album, it really feels like this is their sound, and their personal music preferences came through too

i'm on the fence about DILT's inclusion in the album though. we all know it was not a planned track at all but it was a really good opportunity for them to collaborate and have a fun summer track out before headlining lolla 2023.

that said, it just doesn't seem to fit in (at least sonically) in this album. i don't know if moving it higher up in the tracklist would have been better since i haven't read the lyrics yet but sonically, it might have worked more since the more powerful/complex sounding tracks are in the first half, imo

but overall, this album is full of surprises, and very good ones at that!! I'm sure i'll love it even more when i listen to it again but yeah, from the first listen alone, i would recommend this album!!!
