I wish that people could take time to make the art they planned. I truly truly do. Specifically I'm thinking of video games here; the rushed version of DA4; DaTV is the one my followers will be familiar with but even award winning well loved games like BG3 were extensively scaled back so that act 3 became a smaller, one map with less time for two of our central villains (Gortash and Orin respectively). But this happens all over the place, not just in video games. How many books these days are not editted in the way they should have been because they just want to get the next booktok romantasy on the shelf so they're not willing to afford the authors that luxury? How many artists are expected to churn out content so that money can be made NOW? so we can get engagement NOW? How many industries are killing their artists but also the art that could have been because they want it NOW? Because they want to put as little effort in as they can - as long as there's profit and engagement who cares if it's not what the artist wanted? This culture even creeps into fan spaces, particularly those ruled by algorithms. Just. I wish people could slow down. I wish they could get the time they need to make what they want. Because we'd get better art that way. We truly would.

As someone who grew up on a farm type of thing, feeling more connected to the animals and masculine things with everyone telling me i’d grow up to care about more feminine things and that i was “pretty” - i’ve never felt so connected to applejack before. This depiction of AJ made me feel seen in an odd way. I’ve never truly realized and processed my view of my gender. i always joked of feeling more monster than man, more creature than human. but i thought that was just aesthetics. I never truly realized I wanted to be an actual monster. I know how there’s that trans shapeshifter joke but I really have always been serious about it. I want to transform into something unrecognizable, so far from my current body that i’m no longer that “pretty girl”. like turn me into viscera because i’ll feel more at home as a flesh pile than a human. I want to be masculine but not a man. I want to have claws and sharp teeth, black eyes and long ears, i want a snout and tail. I should’ve been a monster, dear lord. because even as I child I made the noises of an animal before i thought to use my words. I belonged in the animal pen with the rest of my kind back on that farm.
