if any character in Diaries deserved to have a gun it was Hayden motherfucking Zvahl. That man was from medieval-fantasy florida in the middle of the bumfuck swamp with gators and hellrats and a psychotic perpetually-hammered chicken man and had to put up with more bullshit in however-many-months than a majority of the characters did throughout the entire series, including but not limited to his husband getting shot, a punk ass twink trying to take control of the town, his daughter disappearing, Castor in general, his son dying in the nether, his son getting revived in the nether as a fucked-up hell knight, his daughter moving away five minutes after she randomly showed up again, being betrayed by his guard who is also a shadow knight, getting kidnapped beat within an inch of his life, finding out his daughter had magicks and was attempted-sacrificed to open a nether portal like 200 feet away from his village, having said village later literally razed to the ground, fighting in a war, and having your son disappear off the face of the earth never to be seen again. All I'm saying is that he deserved to have a gun to shoot any and all things that slightly inconvenienced him after chugging whiskey and smoking 5 packs of cigarettes a day to keep himself from finally snapping and stabbing someone to death with a table leg. Plus it just fits his aesthetic.

topic: JOH ZVAHL.

ok. so. to begin: this man in my head most definitely screams jack sparrow. in the cuntiest way. jack sparrow if he was more tidy+a lord

speaking of him being the lord of meteli; i still think that despite the formality he still has that style—it fits my idea of meteli culture—esp old meteli. just everyone serving pirate realness throughout the village. lots of gold jewelry. leather. blouses. pearls. the works.

ALSO. this is where laurance gets most of his spunk from. this is why he has a lock of hair permanently braided w/ beads (forgive me on the terminology) by his ear. this is why he adores ships and the sea. because that ocean breeze and dry salty air is one of the few places where he can hear whispers of his father. (sobbing).

don’t forget about one of my favorite hcs too.. the necklace/pendant laur has from joh that he NEVER takes off. ever. perhaps i will draw it? stay tuned.

did joh give it to him as a final token of remembrance as he was dying before him? we may never know. mwhahahah angst

cadenza on top of being a expert seamstress is also a fantabulous beadworker. she'd definitely make absolutely gorgeous and unique designs. she made most of his jewelry + did the flower embroidery on his coat but his sash is something he inherited from Joh when he passed. I'll draw a full body chahta inspired laurance outfit(s) eventually but for now have my shoddy attempt at drawing beaded textures!

tbh to me it makes more sense if cadenza or literally even hayden (because im 90 percent sure hayden was still alive during this) were laurances ties to the overworld. familial love is just as powerful, if not more, than romantic love.

drifted apart or not, those two were the only people laurance had for stability at that point in the story. laurance is inherently protective and paranoid about losing people hes close and dear to; aphmau, to him, really should have been just another girl hes flirted with.

also.... he was a head guard. protector of the lord. after johs death im sure he was even MORE paranoid about losing the next lord on his watch, parental figure or not (though the fact that both joh AND hayden are his adoptive fathers certainly boosts this).

Joh is Laurence and Cadenza’s original adoptive father. In MCD, he dies and is replaced by Hayden. (All the way back when Laurence is ginger and doesn’t know aphmau if I’m remembering right)

my unhinged laurance zvahl headcanons 🫠

- Laurance has a BUNCH of ear piercings. Candenza made him swear not to get any facial piercings, and she's one of the only people he listens to. He did get a belly button piercing to spite her tho :)

- He has a lot of nervous ticks. He used to play with his hair when it was long, but when Cadenza cut it, he started cracking his knuckles and picking at his nailbeds. When Aphmau notices him doing this, she lets him play with her hair.

- GARRANCEMAU. POLYCULE. It was kind of unspoken for a while, and then Garroth got left behind in the Irene Dimension. So, Laurance and Aph got really close. However, nothing was official so she got with Aaron. Laurance and Garroth only ever realized after he had died. Garroth understood, he knew that the polycule wasn't too serious. However, Laurance on the other hand, didn't understand that. Plus, he was dealing with the calling and whatnot. There was a rift in the relationship for a while after that.

- All of the kids in the village love Laurance. I mean, we know he was one of Malachai's biggest role models, and Laur had also grown attached to him. But, he also kinda becomes Naoki (Nekoette but less problematic) and Dmitri's babysitter. He's always been good with kids, but MY IRENE he cannot handle Naoki. Leona also likes to hang around him, as well.

- Laurance used to have a fascination with fire when he was little. (i mean the man has adhd and u know how we r with fire.) He would stare at it for hours. It was the only thing that really calmed his brain. But now, he can't stand it. He can stay near a fire for warmth of course, but he's never the one to start or feed it. He can't look at it anymore. Too many memories. The fire is literally a part of him now. His new body was forged from it. There's no need to stare into the flames. He just has to look in the mirror.

- He's still blind, somewhat. His eyesight wasn't miraculously healed. He has to wash his face in the fountain of Lady Irene every so often, or his vision will completely blur. Even then, there's still spots that never go away, mostly on the outer field of his vision. He has reading glasses, as well.

- He's very physically affectionate. He plays with Aphmau's hair. He grazes over Garroth's hands constantly, running his thumb on all the marks in his palm or his scarred knuckles. When he was younger, he would always find something to fiddle with on Cadenza's clothes.

- He would model for Cadenza a lot. Before becoming a Shadow Knight, he was very comfortable in his body and his masculinity, so playing dress up was honestly very fun.

- Laurance always has to do something with his hands, so he takes up a lot of different crafts. Tying knots, woodcarving (thank you @xerith-42 for that one lmao), making jewelry. (In my hc my OC taught him how to make jewelry, but we don't have to get into that now haha)

- Laurance has Brazilian heritage, and even though he was an orphan, there's a large Brazilian population in Meteli and he was raised around the culture. Hayden kept Laurance very informed on his roots, and in turn Cadenza got to experience all of this as well. (I wanna go into this further at some point but I want to do the proper research first.)

- Since SKs don't need as much sleep, most nights Laurance just wanders Phoenix Drop. That's why he's usually the first to know when something's wrong.

- Before Laurance became an official guard, he was sort of a... vigilante. Bringing justice in the dead of night type beat. When he was younger, in his early teens, there was a high crime rate in Meteli. So, if Laurance saw someone stealing, or trying to break in somewhere, he'd tie them up and leave them outside the guard station for the authorities to deal with them.

-Laurance sneezes like a kitten

-He can turn his eyes red without turning, but its usually accidental

-he and Cadenza speak fluent Spanish, so sometimes they’ll talk in Spanish like its their secret language (cuz Phoenix Drop doesn’t have a lot of Spanish speakers)

-Laurance has trouble reading, even though his vocabulary is pretty big, so Cadenza sometimes reads to him

-Laurance taught Cadenza how to fight “just in case”

whats like, the plot your going for

HELLO HI!!!

I’d like to preface this by saying I’m a super busy student in my A-Level year so I’m not actually making it. But I can make comics and explain the plot theoretically on tumblr :D

First of all it’s Katemau centric because I’m a useless bisexual.

Now more importantly, there’s two main schools in this, Phoenix Drop High and O’Kasis Academy. It’s also sort of following MCD in a more direct way? I’ll run down all the main cast

Aphmau Floraz - Age 16. She has been homeschooled her whole life and is super stoked to be attending high school. Attends PDH and gets up to general protag shenanigans.

Aaron Lycan - Age 18. Aaron is not a love interest! He’s still FC but they meet online while she’s at PDH and not before. They’re nerdy gamer friends and I <3 them. Platonic nerd aarmau for the soul

Katelyn Adhikari - Age 16. APH’S LOVE INTEREST!!! Katelyn used to attend O’Kasis Academy where she was captain of the girl’s football (soccer) team and also on the student council, run by Zane. Some shit goes down and it all ends with Zane getting Jeffery expelled and triggering a series of events that makes Katelyn want to leave. She now attends PDH and is on the football team there. She’s also Ivy’s ex :0

Nana Ishida - Age 15. Nana is a member of the baking club!! She wants to go to a technical college to become a patisserie chef and she often struggles with not being as academic as some of her friends. Lucinda is always around to give her a pep talk if she’s really struggling :,). She’s also dating Danté. She likes anime but she goes by her own name not Kawaii-Chan. Liking anime is what she bonds with Aphmau over

Danté Captain - Age 15. Danté is not gross in my rewrite, and is much more like his MCD counterpart!! After a messy breakup with Nicole, he was a bit sceptical about dating someone. However, he bonded with Nana over failing a maths test and they really hit it off. He’s really good at boxing but so far he’s never beaten Gene

Lucinda Claire - Age 16. Lucinda is an icon. She’s still a witch and she’s part of like. The main girl four (Aphmau, Katelyn, Nana and Lucinda). She’s been friends with Nana for years and the two are a very chaotic team. Teachers are warned to sit them across the room from each other when they first start, and they turn everything into a competition. Lucinda also knows how to comfort someone after a breakup or smthn, but does not do well with her own.

Laurance Zvahl - Age 17. Laurance captains the guys football (again, soccer) team and he is super messy lol. Ask him about his middle school emo phase and you are DEAD (not really, he’ll just laugh it off, then ask that you don’t mention it). Not much has changed here, but again he’s not a love interest for Aphmau really? I don’t like love triangle stuff too much so I wanna make it more slow burn adjacent. He was adopted by Hayden when he was super young and if you hurt Cadenza he will hate you forever. He did also used to roll with Gene and co

Gene Captain (18), Sasha Smyth (17), and Zenix Martinez-Jones (15) are the shadow knights still!!! They’re sort of Gene’s weird loner group, not much has changed here. Gene wants to be a boxer, Sasha gets away with everything because of her 4.0 and Zenix wears trousers 5 sizes too big for him. They’re silly.

Ivy Vernon (16) and Janus Argan (17) are kinda background antagonists for a bit??? Ivy is Katelyn’s ex and the head of the OKA girls hockey team. She’s an absolute menace . Janus is Zane’s close friend and always wants the best for him. He ends up with Zane. Janus is on the American football team.

Travis Valkrum - Age 16. I almost forgot about Travis because I do not like him at all. No Travlyn here whatsoever lmao. I will lean into the sweetheart thing he had going on in pdh!! Basically a ray of sunshine, and things pickup lines are so suave and cool. He’s really interested in classical music.

THE ROMEAVE BROTHERS: here is where we get really messy and find some main conflict

Garroth Ro’Meave - Age 18. Also no longer a love interest. Garroth Ro’Meave has a heart of gold and is always trying his best. He absolutely loves sports and board games. He could not stand his father and ran away from home in the summer between Junior and Senior year. He enrolled himself at PDH and cannot legally be made to return home, and this sets up a lot of the conflict. Garté is a very famous businessman and politician and the tabloids are finding it hard to avoid discussing the family drama, especially with Vylad being public news. Garrance is also endgame

Zane Ro’Meave - Age 16. Debate team. Anyone who knows me knows I love Zane, and I am so normal about him in this. He’s the student council head (the SC is the Jury, idk if I made that clear) at O’Kasis academy until Garté gets really antsy to get Garroth back. Garté basically forcefully transfers Zane to PDH and says he can’t go back to O’Kasis Academy until Garroth comes home. Character development and chaos ensues, while he’s finally forced to face everyone he’s hurt and his feelings about his dad. Much less importantly, Zane gets a boyfriend by the end. It’s Janus (as in the silver death), who’s been his friend the whole time.

Vylad Ro’Meave Fletcher - Age 15. Sick of her husband, Zianna had an affair with another guy. Garté didn’t like how dissimilar Vylad looked to him and forced her to get a DNA test. He basically forced Zianna to give Vylad up, and he’s currently staying in a foster home. It’s public knowledge that he is a Ro’Meave, but it’s just not really talked about in a serious context (kinda Boris Johnson’s kids). Suddenly he’s at the same school as his two older brothers and getting to reconnect with them, and it’s all a lot at once. He’s also the person who convinced Sylvanna that Aphmau should come to PDH on an open day.

It’d be kinda Sex Education vibes??? More than one main character and it focuses on all their conflicts, but the overarching story is Katemau and the conflict between Zane and Garroth, both of which would come to a peak on the night of the winter dance :)

in my rewrite a lot of different families knew each other for instance the Ro'meaves and shalashaska family have had ties since zianna and sylvanna were in high school.

in my rewrite sylvanna and zianna practically raised their kids together.

sylvanna and zianna never moved away from each other and garroth zane and vylad never forgot who Akemi was because they were neighbors their whole life

this also led to the Ro'meaves meeting Akemis cousins and aunt gene dante and maria oceans

Garroth met Laurence when he was in daycare and Zianna ended up befriending both of Laurence's fathers hayden and joh. so zianna would have the zvahls over which led to the meeting cadenza

this also led to the shalashaska family meeting the zvahls

Garte met Caelus Silverdeath when they met to discuss a business deal and they ended up working together and becoming friends. this led to zianna meeting Caelus's wife Terra Silverdeath. zianna and terra formed a frenemy relationship. eventually the Ro'meave brothers met the silverdeath children Janus, Saturn and Opis

(does anyone notice the silverdeath family name references also janus's siblings will get designs after i finish cadenzas one)

the shalashaska and zvahl family also ended meeting the silverdeaths

garte met Dereck Lycan while they were both in university and became friends (and maybe a bit more ;) ) and after they both got married their wives became friends and their children ended up being close (less so with Aaron)

The Lycans also met the silverdeath family the shalashaska family and the Zvahl family

all of the families are still in contact and have get togethers quite often

Oh Cadenza would absolutely LOVE being an aunt. She’d be as involved as possible, offering to help out or babysit whenever she’s actually available. You just KNOW she adores those little girls. She calls Garnet (I took Lilith out of her name bc it felt weird) anyway she calls Garnet “Netty” which eventually catches on, and she calls Lina “Cricket” or “Bug”, as well as calling the girls every other affectionate nickname under the sun. I see her finding time to make them dresses and doing their hair. I can also see the girls calling her Aunite Denza and Aunt Caddy.

As for the world building.. oh boy don’t even get me started. So in case you don’t know, I have a few OCs, the main one being Eseryt Yrva, Cadenza’s bio younger sister. The two are from the village of Zerimar, which was best known for being the third largest village in Ru’Aun, absolutely filled with magicks users, AND right next to O’khasis. Garte saw them as a major threat and ordered it to be completely destroyed. Cadenza and Eseryt lost eachother in the chaos. Cad was found and taken in by Hayden Zvahl and Eseryt was found and taken in by a werewolf named Björn Larson. Cadenza was 11 and Es was 5.

Björn had just been run out of Nahakra for being a werewolf and was on his way to the village of Barton when he came across a burning Zerimar.

Barton is a small village located in a valley completely surrounded by mountains. It’s a safe haven and welcomes people of all shape and size unbiasedly. Most people however, don’t even believe it exists. It’s nearly impossible to find without a map. It’s usually a very busy place, with travelers, adventurers, merchants, refugees, wanderers, etc etc.

As for what the cultures are like in these two villages: Zerimar is loosely inspired by Slovak cultures and Barton is inspired by Appalachian culture.

Other major ish things I’ve included world building wise is the fact that Gal’Ruk is composed mostly of a series of small islands and is inspired by Norse culture, while Tu’La is the largest region that we know of, and is inspired by many different Asian cultures. I also added a new region to the north of Ru’Aun called Conduit. It houses some very powerful magicks for an unknown reason and is the home to the Phoenix Alliance Island.

I could literally go on about the world of my rewrite and my OCs (of which there are many) for hours
