Was looking at the hotel for a drawing and never realized the large degrade from the pilot design (on the left).
I think it was a good choice to simplify it down as the OG design was VERY complex compared to the new design (and some things like the carasoul up top didn't work well considering Alastor was moving his tower up to there). So while I like the pilot hotel more, 100% good move to change it to what we got.
HOWEVER, the pilot design gives that dingey, rundown feels SO MUCH better than the final design. I think background-wise the pilot is better in a lot of ways (like with colors, having them less saturated than the characters). But the hotel in the official series, especially the interior, didn't look as rundown and dingey as I think it was meant to.
You could argue "well Alastor could've spruced it up", but we see in the episode "Dad Beat Dad" a chandelier falling, cockroaches, and Lucifer clearly supposed to be unimpressed with the place. But the show had a very clean and nice looking hotel both interior and exterior. The pilot was good with it being dark and dirty feelings on both these ends. While the final design was super clean-looking but SUPPOSED to have a "roughness" to it, the pilot had a really nice exaggeration of its roughness that gave it a lot of character and made it more interesting. Between the two, I'm more interested in what's inside the pilot hotel than the final design. And it sorta sucks because season 1 ALREADY had the hotel rebuilt all nice and pretty (which like Lucifer showing up, SHOULD'VE been saved for a later season. I get why they did it, but I think the risk of not doing it in season 1 would've had a stronger payoff in the later seasons).
Again, I think it was obviously the right call not to make the hotel so complex for the show. However, there's a stronger mood and personality to the pilot hotel over the final one that feels like it wants to look super nice but it is supposed to be seen as rundown and needs to be fixed-up. And that sucks because I would've loved seeing the rundown place, but we really just got a nice-looking hotel that, in the universe, isn't supposed to be seen as "nice looking" or "clean" (and issues with the hotel concerning its structure and everything was ONLY brought up in "Dad Beat Dad". Little details like a character saying the plumbing was broken AGAIN or things breaking/falling in the background or something would've gone a long way).
It's just a bit of a bummer that the hotel really lost the mood and personality that it did have in the pilot when I really think they honestly could've kept those aspects without making it super complex. I don't dislike the final hotel design, but I don't like the lack of personality and mood it's SUPPOSED to have that the other design achieves.
#Celtrist#cel rambles#I'm by no means an environment expert. But a good environment should have as good of a personality as a character.#And it's not like the final hotel IS lacking a personality exactly. But it doesn't have the “fixer-upper” feel I think it's meant to have#The new hotel in the final episode honestly looks like just a slight upgrade from the before design#Imagine having that new hotel design when the previous was more akin to the pilot hotel design in terms of the mood and personality?#There would be such a stronger feel of “holy shit this is an improvement” and “look at how it's changed”#The old hotel and new hotel has pretty much the same vibes of being show business/clean/vegasy#Hazbin hotel#hellaverse#hazbin hotel critical#hazbin hotel criticism#hazbin hotel critique#hazbin critical#hazbin criticism#hazbin critique

Fixer Upper
ALASTOR x (F)READER Summary: Someone dared to break Alastor's precious radio and his wrath is inconsolable. But turns out you may have some small tricks up your sleeve. Warnings: NONE For the dearest @anon-of-the-void. My darling, it is a pleasure as always to write these for you.
In the bustling chaos of the Hazbin Hotel, where demons sought redemption amidst the fiery chaos of Hell, an unlikely friendship blossomed. Alastor, the infamous Radio Demon, found solace in the presence of Y/N, an inventive soul from the Victorian Era who had found herself amidst the peculiar denizens of the underworld.
Y/N was a tinkerer, always tinkering away in her workshop, concocting gadgets and gizmos that would make even the most adept engineers marvel. Alastor, with his vintage charm and macabre wit, found her creations fascinating, and the two formed an unusual bond over their shared love for innovation.
One fateful day, disaster struck when Alastor's beloved old-time radio, his prized possession from his living days, broke down. The demon was devastated, his usual jovial demeanor clouded by a rare display of anger. The residents of the hotel trembled in fear, knowing the havoc that could be unleashed if the Radio Demon's rage remained unchecked.
Alastor's crimson eyes blazed with fury as he prowled the halls of the Hazbin Hotel, his usual jovial smile replaced by a menacing snarl. The residents cowered in fear, whispering among themselves as they caught glimpses of the Radio Demon's wrathful form.
"You there!" Alastor's voice boomed, sending shivers down the spines of those unfortunate enough to cross his path. "Do you have any idea of the inconvenience of my beloved radio breaking? The nerve, the audacity!"
Niffty, the hyperactive cleaner demon, spoke with a frantic passion as she viewed the mangled radio."Alastor! I'll do it! Let me clean it please!"
Alastor's laughter rang out like a chilling melody, sending a chill through the air. "Oh, my dear Nifty, no thank you. This requires some…interrogation but feel free to clean up the aftermath."
Angel Dust, lounging lazily on a nearby couch, scoffed, "Oh, lighten up, Al, it's just a stupid radio. Besides, it's not like anyone listens to your old-timey tunes anyway."
The room fell silent as Alastor's gaze bore into Angel Dust, his smile twisting into a sinister grin. "Is that so, my dear Angel? Perhaps I should demonstrate the consequences of underestimating the power of music."
With a snap of his fingers, Alastor summoned a spectral microphone, its ethereal glow casting eerie shadows across the room. "Now, let's see who's laughing when I unleash the full force of my wrath upon this wretched offender!"
The residents of the Hazbin Hotel trembled as Alastor's menacing laughter echoed through the halls, knowing all too well that when the Radio Demon was in a foul mood, no one was safe from his terrifying fury.
As fear spread throughout the hotel, Y/N knew she had to act swiftly to quell the storm brewing within Alastor's heart. Ignoring the warnings of her peers, she clandestinely snatched the broken radio and retreated to her workshop, determined to restore it to its former glory.Under the cover of night, she stealthily crept into Alastor's room, her pockets filled with tools and determination. With deft hands, she dismantled the broken radio, each cog and wire familiar to her skilled touch.
Hour after hour, Y/N toiled away, her nimble fingers dancing across the delicate machinery. With each adjustment and tweak, the radio gradually came back to life, its familiar crackle filling the air once more. But as the night wore on, fatigue gnawed at Y/N's bones, her eyelids growing heavy with exhaustion. But she pressed on, fueled by determination and a desire to see her friend smile once more.
Finally, with a soft click, the radio sprang to life, emitting a crackling sound before filling the room with the familiar strains of vintage jazz. Y/N let out a sigh of relief, a triumphant smile gracing her lips as she admired her handiwork.
But as she stood there basking in her success, fatigue finally caught up with her. With a yawn, she sank into a nearby chair, her eyes fluttering closed as sleep claimed her.
Unbeknownst to her, Alastor had been silently watching from the shadows, his expression unreadable as he observed Y/N's tireless efforts to fix his broken radio. When he saw her succumb to exhaustion, a pang of concern tugged at his heart, softening the edges of his usually stoic demeanor.
Quietly, he approached her slumbering form, his footsteps barely audible against the creaking floorboards. Gently, he brushed a stray lock of hair from her face, his touch light as a feather.
"My dear Y/N," he whispered, his voice barely above a murmur. "Such devotion, such selflessness. You truly are a marvel."
A warmth blossomed in Alastor's chest as he watched her sleep, a feeling he couldn't quite put into words. For the first time in centuries, he felt something akin to tenderness stirring within him—a feeling he realized with a start was nothing short of admiration.
With a soft sigh, Alastor leaned in closer, pressing a gentle kiss to Y/N's forehead before picking up her form and striding over to his bed; tucking her in with the utmost care. As he stood there in the dimly lit room, surrounded by the quiet hum of the fixed radio and the soft breathing of his friend, he knew at that moment that he was irrevocably touched by her kindness.
And as the first light of dawn painted the sky, Alastor silently vowed to cherish and protect Y/N, for she had not only fixed his broken radio but had also managed to mend something far more precious—his wounded heart.
The next morning dawned upon the Hazbin Hotel, the air tinged with a sense of relief as the residents basked in the knowledge that Alastor's beloved radio had been fixed. Alastor strode into the lobby with a confident swagger, his usual grin plastered on his face. With a flick of his wrist, he turned on the radio, the familiar crackle of static filling the air before giving way to the melodic strains of love songs from a bygone era.
The residents exchanged puzzled glances, their confusion evident as they listened to the unexpected playlist. Angel Dust raised an eyebrow, a mischievous smirk playing on his lips. "Well, well, looks like someone's feeling a bit sentimental today."
Alastor's grin widened, though there was a hint of something softer lurking beneath the surface. "Ah, my dear Angel, music has a way of stirring the soul, don't you think?"
As the love songs continued to play, the other residents couldn't help but feel a sense of warmth wash over them. Even the gruffest demons found themselves tapping their claws to the beat, caught up in the unexpected romance of it all.
But as Alastor's gaze lingered on Y/N, who stood among the crowd with a shy smile, a wave of realization washed over him. It wasn't just any love songs he was playing—it was a silent declaration of his growing affection for the inventive soul who had captured his heart.
And as the music filled the room with its sweet melody, Alastor couldn't help but feel a surge of hope coursing through him. Perhaps, in the midst of Hell's chaos, there was still room for love to blossom—a love that transcended time and defied all odds.
With a soft chuckle, Alastor stole a glance at Y/N, his heart swelling with newfound courage. For in that moment, amidst the gentle strains of love songs and the soft glow of morning light, he knew that he was falling—falling head over heels for the one who had fixed not only his broken radio but also the shattered pieces of his soul.

Tying into your headcannon of why Alastor hates what Vox had done to Hell's entertainment scene, imagine a scenario where due to a botched deal/bet in a Overlord Meeting the two swap places and duties temporarily and must act the part for a set amount of time.
Alastor would go ham and immediately diversify, he'd remove the brainwashing factor for a start, then hunt down and sponsor the up and coming talent using Vox's money to rope them in.
Velvette is starting to maybe understand Alastor's appeal, the raw charisma and workaholic competence that made him, also a coloured man, thrive in the great depression of all times.
Vox meanwhile is shaking the rust off of being a non visual entertainer again, without brainwashing and it's a very bumpy wakeup call. He's also the temporary Hotelier at Hazbin Hotel (Alastor told him the activities are mandatory to staff as well to mess with him, lol) and Vox is a man who is not used to getting his hands dirty, man's learning how to clean up after himself.
Charlie see's Vox as a fixer upper. This is a opportunity. She Will Befriend This Sad Little TV Man. Time to break out the superfine rainbow glitter.
Valentino was initially grumpy but the new scripts Alastor handed him are actually quite good. (It's Niffty, Niffty is writing the scripts Alastor hands him.)
The rest of the Overlord's who were witness to this deal/bet are having the time of their lives watching the relatively harmless chaos.
My ONLY problem with this honestly is the idea of Alastor doing anything to improve television. That sort of bet implies that the reigns will be going back to Vox as soon as the bet/deal is done, right? Alastor would then be increasing Vox's viewership and quality, therefore Vox's power. And, well, Vox already proved himself to be an uncreative little shit who's happy to trample on the hopes and dreams of true artists. Why on EARTH would Alastor do anything to improve the situation, only for it to be completely demolished soon after? It's a waste of time, and benefits Vox more than it ever would Alastor.
No, Alastor would operate the shitty position the exact same way Vox did. That way, Vox can't find any fault in his work, and Vox doesn't gain anything.
Besides, Vox would undeniably be doing worse in Alastor's position. He has no reason to be empowering Vox when the man is actively doing a bad job with Alastor's broadcasting and hotelier duties.
The only way I can see Alastor actually doing the improvements he wants to do is if the bet/deal forces him to do the job to the best of his ability, and that the bet/deal is public so that everyone in the pentagram are fully aware that the two traded places. That way everyone knows that if there's any improvements, it's all Alastor's achievements, not Vox's.
#hazbin hotel#hazbin alastor#hazbin vox#vox is a businessman not an artist and it shows#he's also a cult leader and brainwashes the masses to accomplish his goals and that ALSO shows

On Air [Chapter One] Smile [Alastor]
A/n: this is my first attempt at a Hazbin Hotel fic. I was inspired by 'Trials and Tribulations' by Mrs_Divinity on AO3(if you have not read this, please do) to write this. The story will contain dark content, so please heed the warnings. I'll add more as I go. Please enjoy.
The first chapter is going to be short for various reasons. And because I have lots of fics to update, this story will be a bit slow on updates but don't worry I won't abandon it.
Summary: Aelia is a hopeless romantic, so much so, that she makes a deal with an enigmatic man named Alastor whom she communicates with via a wireless radio that she found in the attic of her new home. It's not until she winds up in hell after a spree of brutal murders does she come to realize that the voice she trusted and longed to meet belongs to a demon overlord who now owns her soul.
And to make matters worse, her new demon body only reacts to him.
Will she seek redemption? Or be forever stuck to a demon who wishes to use her as an escape from boredom? Stay tuned.
Warning(s): Original female character, blood, and death, emotional manipulation, the OC is a serial killer, hopeless romantic, dark content, short chapter, false love, unhealthy relationship, and dark content.
No Minors Allowed!!
The putrid stench of death permeated the humid Tennessee air, a blend of feces and rotting flesh, but that was the least of Aelia’s concerns.
She was at the end of the line.
Red and blue lights bounced off the walls of her 50s fixer-upper home and despite the persistent thundering bang on her front door, Aelia did not move. She remained hunched in the corner of her bedroom, embracing a wireless Cathedral radio in a cherry wood case against her chest.
Her heart raced as the fear of being caught dawned on her. After everything she had done; the brutal murders and the kidnappings, now she was feeling remorse. But why? She had the world in her hands. What was there to be scared of? Her life was just starting.
“Alastor–” Aelia paused upon hearing the sound of her voice. Never had she heard something so pathetic and weak. “Talk to me…please.”
The radio hissed as two separate sound waves tried to simultaneously coexist, and then a voice as low and intense as radio static broke through; a voice Aelia yearned to hear.
“It's nearly that time, isn't it? Tick tock. Tick tock.”
“I'm scared,” Aelia admitted. As soon as the words left her mouth, she instantly regretted it. But she knew better than to apologize.
Alastor tsked.
“Don't lose your pluck, my dear. I still need you.”
Her heart raced and her face heated up. He needed her. His patience knew no bounds. Aelia clutched the radio tighter, wishing to hold the man behind the voice for he was the only one who gave her a reason to smile. Alastor was the angel on her shoulder, helping her take back her life.
The day she found the radio sealed off in the attic of her new home was the best day of her life.
“You're everything to me.”
Alastor chuckled.
“Yes, yes. I know.”
A loud bang shook the house as the front door was kicked from its hinges. Aelia could hear the heavy footsteps of the officers as they piled into the house. The fear returned, but she took an uneasy breath and tried to sound brave.
“What do I do?”
“Why, go and meet your guests, my dear. Don't be rude,” Alastor insisted. “And remember to smile. You're not fully dressed without one.”
Aelia stood, despite her body begging her not to, and tottered toward her bedroom door; her blood-stained dress clung to her like a second skin. She could hear the shock and disgust of the officers as she stood at the top of the stairs, knowing that it did not take them long to locate her most recent victims; she left them out as a sign of hospitality.
An officer with an elderly appearance was the first to see her, widening his eyes. Aiming his Glock 22 at her, he yelled at her to get down, gaining the attention of the other three.
Each of them raised their guns, but Aelia did not cower. She hugged the radio against her chest and with all the strength she could, she forced a wide smile.
Soon…my love.

One of the worst feelings is watching the fandom you loved so dearly once now crumble into a pit of misery and hate.
So here's to the hope that FNaF, Hazbin Hotel, and MCYT (and possibly so many other fandoms) get themselves a fixer-upper and rise from the ashes.
Happy Chosen One Day, and Happy Holidays.
Please learn what respect is, you filthy animals.
#The toxicity (and reposts) in these fandoms can be so horrible sometimes it's hard to look at it in a positive light anymore#But you can't leave because it's such an integrated part of you to stay and guide whatever little hope is left#So here's to hoping that the world turns for the better#And that those in fandoms learn what respect means for once in their lives

[OOC] Its my personal belief that once upon a time people in the hazbin universe went to heaven and hell rather evenly tbh. But Heaven seemed to be very bureaucratic and uncaring despite its shiny happy image. Given Vivs love of musicals, I can see a touch of the devils carnival element being possible. Heaven doesn't WANT people redeemed anymore. they dont want the lessers, the fixer uppers, when they can the unblemished. The Perfect shiny examples of that perfect image. Lucifer thinks its useless for his child to do this - because it may very well be useless. But he also is a being that has always spoken up in support of free will, so he allowed her to use his hotel and do it anyway. Knowing she’ll learn on her own. At least thats how my Lucifer thinks xD
#also charlie seems to have a weirdly positive view of heaven for her position#and thats almost 100% going to crash around her

Deals change people, look at the sick post-deal look that @i-write-sin-not-tragedy made for Sunlight! I'm so in love with the little details! I love this goofy little axolotl inspired menace <3
Sunlight doesn't care what the deal does to her. She's on a mission to find her bestie, and if that means making a deal with Vox to get the information she needs to find him? It's worth it. Cloud is worth that.
In the meantime, streaming video games and working as an assistant is keeping her busy. Busier than ever before, and she's never been happier.
Sunlight's hobbies include annoying Vox, swimming around in the tank under his desk, dancing, and being a general online menace.
#hazbin: fixer upper#hellsona#hazbin hotel oc#yall would not believe how little I put into this design I just threw some very vague ideas and a hair color at Cloud and went I trust you#and he delivers every time#This was entirely their idea too and im just like!!!!!!!#the biggest of brains over there
