hi this is re: roier but too long for a reply !

ive been out of qsmp for awhile and don't pay attention anymore but i wanna just like . place this quietly into the conversation lmfao... when i was watching and seeing things fans posted, i noticed roier is routinely feminized (a combo of misogyny/homophobia + racism) he's placed as "the woman" in the spiderbit relationship constantly in fan art etc. roier as a person irl isn't particularly feminine, but bc he's expressive and openly queer and not white, he's placed as Less Than and under more scrutiny constantly . there's a lot of complex things happening but the usamerican portion of the qsmp world does a lot of heavy lifting in misconstruing roier's character (too flirty, bad parent, too cruel, too harsh, slutty, the wife, whatever else he's gotten that i haven't seen) . so. if he's the woman of the relationship, and Women Belong To Their Husbands, well. they couldn't possibly see roier with anyone else, and it's his fault if others make advances. it's very strange to witness

I feel like I have just received a new point of view right now, and it has blown my mind away to the point where I need this plastered over Twitter (which won’t happen since it is HELL out there).

I have never thought of it this way because I never saw him like that but you are so right now that I put more thought into it ;-;. They really do see him as the woman of the relationship, and I’m pretty sure that it’s something subconscious for all of them (but not all).

I totally agree with you btw. The more I think about it, the more it makes sense. As someone who watches him constantly I can agree with you, his character is actively feminine. It just stinks having your favorite character being seen like this, it makes me so upset sometimes I just want him to be FREE lol. I don’t think that people stop drawing him in this small, feminine way, until like purgatory maybe? Because well, he’s a strong character.

Everyone knows how flirty he is, but it was expected to go away as soon as he got married. And he never means harm :/ it’s just the way he is. It is very strange to watch people get possessive over him, and I feel like this will ultimately lead to the ship ending. Heartbreaking. If people actually knew his character, they’d know he hates betrayal so it makes no sense for them to get tilted over ships.

Sometimes you just want to have honest conversations about the characters, and Twitter isn’t the place because then they accuse you of hating the CCs which isn’t the case ☹️.

The series Suits

I finished the 7th season and watched one episode from the 8th so my judgment will not be on the whole series.

!!!Spoiler alert!!!

I really enjoyed Suits. It felt planned, the action logical and thought-through. I like how it shows both the good and the bad side of being a lawyer. It shows how hard it is to succeed in the world no matter how hard you try ( Luis as an example). Also where women stand along with different races and skin colours. With the cases we were able to see different life challenges/ problems people deal with. Even if you are not interested in law it is still a good opportunity to learn a bit about how the law sistem works. Now, I can’t say if it is actually like that but it definitely gave me an idea of the world of law and what I could do if ever in a difficult situation.

The caracters are built very well. I like how Mike even by being a genius threw away his life because of bad influence which shows how much your life depends on your choices more than you as a person. Though I think after prison we kind of lost his witty sense of humor and his movie quotes with Harvey. I think it was a wrong choice for him to get a license. If he brcame a teacher as it was mentioned he could, it would be just right.

Harvey’s caracter is very complex. We see him as the “bad boy” type of caracter which of course is a bit stereotypical and worn out. But if done right it can do miracles. I , personally, loved him but I guess it’s about the way you look at him. I love how he opened up. Definitely his relationship with Paula ( the therapist) was a big step to his emotional growth. The moment his panic attacks started I felt the series were the most interesting as well as when was Mike’s trial. During that time I feel that Harvey’s caracter was in a bad place mentality but definitely in a good place as a development.

Donna. I love her. I mean who doesn’t? She is funny, charming, smart. Donna has a dream of becoming an actress, faithful to Harvey. Her caracter was just the” light “ of the show. The relationship between her and Harvey was great though I think their romantic one should have been established and progressed earlier in the show. Otherwise, I love everything about Donna.

Now, Rachel in general is very sweet. I really like how they made her cheat bacuse that made her imperfect. Before that she was very idealised. ( This also goes for when Donna screwed up with that evidence file) But what I love most about Rachel is how she shows us that grades and wether you go to Harvard or no make you agood lawyer or worthy to be one. ( This kind of goes for Mike but not exactly because be is a geniusBut she doesn’t give up fighting for her dream. I love how the series show that your worth is not based on grades, marks or always results. ( This can also be seen in the 7th season with that associate Luis became friends with) In general Rachel is a really sweet person and her growth was more in a career/ relationship way than mentaly.

Luis is also great. I loved his caracter even though I feel the writers were too harsh with him. He should have married Sheila the first time and this with kids shouldn’t have happened in my opinion. He deserved that happy marriage. He is the caracter with the most obvious imperfections. He is quirky and weird but you cannot not love him. Luis improved as a person the most.

Jessica! God help if you don’t admire that woman for everything she is and does for the others. Absolutely stunning! Brave and wise at the same time. Even if I was sad when she desided to give up the firm I felt it was the right thing to do because it would give Harvey a chance to step up to his full potential. I am glad she returned for some episodes from time to time.

I can’t talk about all the caracters but I love how they were built and created. How their actions matched their personalities and way of thinking.

The MUSIC! Let’s talk about the music. I usually don’t notice it or if I do I don’t really like it. But HERE... probably one of the best features of the series. I shazamed so much my spotify playlist is Suits based. They also chose unknown artists which probably deserve more recognition and I really value that. Especially because when being unknown they are kind of only yours.

So the 8th season is just too big of a change for me. I am afraid I won’t like it and never see the series the same way again. What I wished is for it to end the 7th season with Ross and Rachel getting married. Harvy finally stables the firm after Jessica and either starts dating Donna or stayes with Paula. Luis having a kid with Sheila or not... whatever just them together.

Loved it but I won’t watch the 8th season.

outside of writting and illustration, I grow fruits to sell or consume myself ( despise my utter distaste to the fruits i have, but hey - it’s free bundles of vitamins for a better nutrition! ) which end with me either forgetting to use gloves or get cuts here and there due some of them have thorns. For some reason, my abilities favoir sour fruits such as lemons, oranges and golden berries - this? is a personal attack from the higher beings to me as I like more sweet and bitter fruits!!! Yet no matter how hard I try, such fruits die one me, only the sour ones survive and thrive as if nothing has ever happened.

I do tend to mention it a lot, or if you have me on twitter, you can see my art and stuff! I like illustrating and mainly I work on fan-art – Freelance works that I cannot publish and other things that require, too, my hands. Drawing is my burden and passion, and thanks to gb/f I’ve been studying wing anatomy just for the sake of drawing angels – it’s horrible and a crime.

 Ever since a kid, I loved plushies – and living in a country where hardly collection exclusive brands hardly reach, i never had much of them beyond generic cat and goofy dragon plushies. But with modernization and money I get from work, since I’m terribly good at saving funds for everything I need AND save, at the same time, for my hobbies, now I have a collection I’m proud of. Like a little hoard of a combination of pok/emon plushies, GB/F plushies (my sandalphon and lucifer plushies are currently my fave ones), a few rare yo/kai-watch ones, etc. I like collecting them, especially if they are super soft and cute!!

This is a hard one, but I do recall having RPed on the ol’ fa/cebook days – my memory is not as good as I’d like it to be so I’d be lying just which characers I RPed and how I slowly learned english throught assimilating it entirely in my struggle to get better at it. But it’s been a big part of my life, and with it I learned a lot!

 This... Is hard. Since it varies from harboiled detectives with quick temperament to villains who have complex backgrounds. Maybe it’s because of said complexities that drives them to try and do better or worse that I favor characters that are somewhat hard to tell what goes in their mind – plus is funny to bully them or allow a window of development that the source they come from wont give to them, or could be expanded more!

FLUFF: Fluff is my live, from just trivial things as home settings to love both platonic and romanti for the caracter to let themselves go and fluorish? I love it. Watch me ramble about the many ways just simple gestures of appreciation can do a change even on the most terribly wounded characters whose heart doesn’t allow help just yet.

ANGST: Generally speaking, hurt and angst for the sake of sadness is something I tend to avoid. But angst for the sake of positive development in the future is something I love to explore, but could also turn my attention away as it drains a little off me. When it’s about a character’s tragic past and using it as a drive for them to heal, or explore the wounds they still cannot heal so easily, things that take time, ages for them to accept and move on? now that’s delicious food I’d adore to write! 

SMUT: INow this is something I’m... selective about. I enjoy it when it’s in an emotional side, exploring intimacy in ways a character slowly realizes what they feel for the other - smut for the sake of smut is... a line i tend to not cross too much due to my own small insecurity at my ability to write. I feel like i need practice to fully write better scenarions that convey the catargic depth emotional smut can envoy – so i tend to take my sweet time if it’s my turn to write something in that sense. ( but? I admit liking sometimes plotless smut, it’s just not something I’m confident enough to write yet. )

PLOT / MEMES: Memes serve as a base for me to bloom a whole thread, plotting, too, is nice to flesh out further ideas I may already be festering in silence. So... both are good!

If you're excusing Ben for what he did then don't be an hypocrite and do the same for Grey and Leo. What's the fucking difference?

All of them had shitty childhood, awful parents and did horrible things. They also have a "soft side". So why don't I see the same love for Grey or Leo or Stuart.

Ben was supposed to be different. He didn't plan to kill heather. He was a terrified teenager and It was an accident. He called off the hit on Billy. He started getting better. Cleared the air with Lola. Got closer to Lexi. Had some heartfelt moments with his mother. Fell in love with the sweetest guy and sacrificed a lot to be with him.

He was never meant to turn 100% straight. That would have been boring. He's always been good at lying, stealing, money laundering, blackmailing, you name it.. but he's never been a cold blooded murderer. That's straight up evil.

Ben just killed someone's son and his niece's father. Just because Keanu slept with Sharon. What a stupid motive! And He didn't lose sleep over it either.

Phil is not to blame. Ben could have done what Martin did.

Ben's characterisation is just inconsistent. One week he's a saint and too soft and the next he's the devil incarnate. He's not a complex character. It's just bad writing.

This is a caracter we're supposed to root for. How can we still do that and ship him with Callum and not look like hypocrites?

She is the goddaughter to Sarah and also, Lady H and Lady P so she feel herself more into the society, than Sian ever can be, after Sarah spill her some tea. She is so close to her grandmother, so she feel it when she lying about where she met with Sir John, before. She began so suspicious about it. As, she also set to began when Jack Morrison is back in the 'town'. Lily is not a walk in the park. She's walk in the Jurassic Park, as Sarah is always saying about both of them as a ship.

The issue with Nadia isn't her "finding" empowerment by removing her hijab by another non-hijabi actress for the million time, but when the writers establishing in season 1 that Nadia feels empowered by it same as Skam's Sana as an identity then they erase it in season 2 to be "cool", while whitesplaining why it's ok?!

But that's the fact, i don’t think it’s about empowerment i don’t think the show portaits it as liberation is just a choice she makes of going out without the hijab, the love interest doesn’t finally notices her and finds her hot because of it, it’s established in s1 that guzman was attracted to her like she was. He’s put off by her trying to drink and party because he is not sure why she is duing it and she never apologizes for her choices.And the actress is not hijabi but she is muslim maybe the caracter is inspired on her idk.To be honest sana season had more withe saviour complex than this season of elite in my opinion with the whole noora paralel and isak telling her maybe the bulling was her fault, i think druck did sana A LOT better than the og.I really don’t see it as earsing season 1 but as proggresing the story in a different direction. I don’t know i just really liked it but i understand why some people didn’t, i think. I just don’t agree it was a bad story or whitespaining but that’s just my opinion.

Galra Empire issue and the problematic "evil civilization" trope

A evil intergalactic empire is a popular trope of the space opera genre. And how the fantasy dialogue with the ordinary world, those empires were usually portrayed with European elements, with the caracters using European names (usually german) and a militar culture similar of the totalitarianism regime. This characterization reflects the period when the space opera, sci-fi and spacial adventures become popular in western (pos World War), and gradually take part in pop-culture. 

But the thing is: nowadays, in a time that supposed value the respect for diversity and with a better notion the social complexity of morality, is it valide show a hole society as "evil"?

The problem in Voltron case is in answer of the follow question: 

What means be a galra?

When this question implicit appears it focus in a style of life. Galras are strong, violent and proud creatures that were raise to conquer and explore other civilizations. But in Daibazaal's times seems to be a galra wasnt so barbaric. Pre- quintessence Zarkon was perfect diplomatic and friendly in his alliance with alteans rulers.

He even got marry with a altean. So galras didn't have prejudices with other races since they were totally okay with let a foreign be their Empress and introduce a altean blood in the royal bloodline. 

So we can conclude there was a time when galras knew soft feelings. What is distinguishes them from the zentraedi from Macross ( a civilization that never ever experience another thing than violence). The example of Macross is relevant, cause this anime play well the problem of communication between two civilizations completely different. The whole conflict start because a disastrous encounter with miscommunication that start a war and it end with the help of the music affecting emotionally the cold zentraedi people. It seems silly but a with careful look the resolution make sense, the conflict is solved with an alternative way that the enemy couldn't prevent or emulate. The power of emotions. 

Poor antagonist is confusing/disgusting because of this demonstration of affection, this gesture and caring in general doesn't exist in his planet. 

But modern galras and current enemies of Voltron are presenting as rude people and, unfortunately, the audience just see the military force.

They have a serie of codes that translate their brutal and warrior way of life like "Victory or Death". What shows they dont value the life in general and prefer die to surrender.

BoM seems to appear as the only resistance force that prove not all galras are adepts of "Victory or Death" style of life. But, unfortunately BoM was used in the narrative more to comfort Keith and show that he belongs and come from the "good galras" than to portray, at least, a little of complexity in be part of a oppressive culture where values are distorted and the collectivity guilty seems a very problematic issue. 

Lotor and his generals could have been a good element to the debate, since they were excluded thanks their mix genes but the whole discussion die where the narrative tried to channel this institutional hate in a single person. Axca and Zentrad blamed Lotor for all wrong they did, while no one of them seems to feel Lotor himself suffered with galra prejudice. 

And then we have Lotor parents blame his genetic (again)

So...be a galra is bad cause it is like... a disguise? Is it acceptable, even in a alien context, say someone race is a problem? What part of this isn't problematic? 

But then we think, it is a villain discourse. They gonna be called out of this. But no. Actually, even heroes repeat this reasoning. It was completely out of the place put Allura to have prejudice against galras "but they destroyed Altea!" Wrong! It was Zarkon! And who started all the catastrophe was a altean named Hoverna. Altean wasnt colonized by galras to her picture all galras are oppressors or it is galra nature destroy things. The way they wrote her behavior just reflect how the writers are ignorants about serious issues as racism, genocide and PSTD.  They should have make her have issue with Zarkon only not galras at all.

And then we have Keith and Allura issue, that could have be better written (just like it was with Judy and Nick in Zootopia). But no. They had to make Allura be wrong cause, you know, they dont care for her. Even so, Allura learned her lesson: galras aren't bad. Or at least not all galras are bad. However, what make me sad is the narrative never care in ask "why the galras are bad?" No one asked it. Worse, they make mixed race characters feel angry, upset and ashamed for their own race. I am not saying they should be proud, galras were real destroyers, but shame someone because of their blood is sick! And it is even more repulsive hear from the own creators there is a good and a bad representation of mixed race. And it is intriguing how in the ending it is more about luck than atitute, Keith had luck for be kid of Krolia instead Zarkon and had a nice parental figure in Shiro and had human appereance.

Sebastian: trash demon darling. I never had an emo phase but I sure as fuck I like edgy characters.I really love how much of a nerd he is, how savage he can become, and how genuinily he likes his job. It’s amazing  9/10 needs me some more development

Sieglinde: beautiful baby witch scientist. Sieglinde still liking the witch aesthetic isn’t canon since she went full mecha, but I do and I always have that arc to go back. 1000/10 pure sunshine. (i also like mecha so that’s a plus)

Aleister: did i say before i love my problematic favs? I do. But being honest? I love Wonderland of Immorality more than anything else. Bless that caracter song. 8/10 should be around more often.

Edward: on the other hand i like my pure pure boys as well. Flustered repressed victorian boy makes me go ugh. He’s even blond1 9/10 why did he just dissapeared

Soma: pure, pure, pure. But also hot as fuck. The ugh is different in this one. Many of the characters on this list are just characters that I find appealing in a fangirling way, because that’s just how we roll in fandom. 100/10

Vincent: devilish dilf? sign me the fuck on. Too bad he’s a commited man to his wife and dog. 9/10 needs to be fire proof to be perfect

Diederich: loyal tsudenre? my heart! Diederich is such an amazing character, I love him so much! 10/10 pretty solid all around. 

Finny: my other pure sunshine boy. Two of the fluffiest characters are Germans! Nice move Toboso. Anyway, Finny is the only servant Ciel really really trust in, we all see it in GWA. Their relationship is bless, all hail Finny, 1000/10

Frances: badass proper victorian woman. Hey! All the midfords hit my favorite victorian tropes. Anyway, 9/10 if only because she doesn’t get enough screentime. 

Redmond: naughty pretty murderous boy, who is shy with girls because he’s actually gay? ok the last part is only canon in my heart, but I live for it. 7/10 honey... you are in such bad arcs

Violet: edgy emo self-sacrificing artist? nice. Also he’s gay for his friends and honestly, mood. 8/10 you were also in terrible arcs but I love you babe. 

Lau: i love the fact he doesn’t give a shit about Sebastan and that his eyes look like that when he opens them. The ugh is more raw in this. Also every crackship I have with him is super funny and nice and hot and honestly, nice. 10/10 best boy, why doesn’t he appear more often 

Charles Grey: (i always forget to add him but!) i really like him, in a low-key way. Many prefer soft boy Phipps, but I like my men thots. But Double Charles is a nice childhood friends ship. 6/10 love you babye but you never around. 

Madam Red: I’ve seen some posts lately about how bad it was that she killed all those prostitutes. Not to put everyone who writes those posts or reblogs them in a same bag, but I feel some of them come across as somewhat paternalistic. I know it may be surprising, but maybe people have functioning brains and did read the arc? And decided they don’t care because she was still a tragic and sympathetic character? And they felt bad for the prostitutes but they just rather to focus on the main character of the arc? I know, shocking. I mean, it’s okay to adress all the shit she did, but let’s face it, not everyone has the time, energy, or interest in engaging in that. Maybe people just want to share a pretty picture of Madam Red, call her a queen, and move on. Madam Red, you were a fantastic, complex, dark and troubled character and I loved you. Too sad to see you go, in every itteration that you went away. 100/10 the heartwreck of that arc is what keeps you in this hellish manga, 100%. 

Meyrin: the badass shy girl. Her crush on Sebastian is adorable, and I wish her all the happiness in the world. She’s one of the characters that makes you think: wow, in this show everyone is really cool. Because if she can be cool, we can all be cool. I really love the servants all in all. Bard would be right next to her. 1000/10 I wish I’d known your full backstory.

A few thoughts on ‘The Rise of Skywalker’

Not that any of you asked me to do this, but after watching the movie yesterday I felt compelled to write something, most likely to organize and register my thoughts and feelings about it and this ‘New Trilogy’ as a whole. If (for some reason) you feel like reading it, be warned that the whole post is filled with spoilers.

I remember when the first teaser to ‘The Force Awakens’ was released back in 2015 and the impact it had on me. Star Wars was a huge part of m me growing up - I’ve never been one of those die-hard fans, obsessed with the Expanded Universe and theories and basically living the franchise 24/7, but still, it was one of my favorite movies overall. I always felt very passionate about it, particularly about the mythology, a few outstanding characters and about the overall universe created by George Lucas and the way it has impacted science fiction since 1977. Of course, there were a lot of mistakes a long this ride, a lot of storylines and characters that could (and perhaps should) have been handled way better, but still - the plot was great, the development was great, and even after the weak and (let’s be honest, sloppy) start of the Prequel Trilogy, it still was able to develop what was promised and gave us a decent origin story to one of the most iconic characters of the science fiction genre.

Back to 2015, when the first teaser to TFA was released, I remember feeling thrilled in a manner I find difficult to explain. As I said, I was never obsessed by the EU and honestly knew very little about its mythology, but I have always been curious to what could happend to that franchise, how those characters could be developed further and what more could be told about that galaxy far, far away. And when more news about the movie came out, my excitement only grew - there’s no hero, there’s a heroine! There’s a POC who’s not a mere supporting character! Leia is there! Han if there! It felt like a dream come true, if I can be this sappy. And when the movie came out, boy, I wasn’t disappointed. The new storylines were great, the characters were interesting and complex, and even though the original characters didn’t stand out in this new movie (and even after Han died) I felt like the movie did what it needed to do: introduced new possibilities, new stories to develop without harming what was done before and (from my point of view) not relying too much on what was done before, something that was really important to me back then. The message I got after watching TFA was “This is a new story. It’s not about Luke or Leia or Han or Vader or the Empire. It’s a sequel to that, but it’s new”. And I was excited to see what was coming next. 

But ‘The Last Jedi’ came out two years later and my expectations were smashed. The brand-new feeling I got after watching TFA was gone, the complex characters I fell in love with were turned into abnormal, weak, nonsense versions of themselves. The plot had barely any link to the plot of TFA, it basically didn’t feel like I was watching a sequel to that movie. It felt like I was watching a sloppy attempt to reconnect the sequel to the original movies and fill it with stupid, unnecessary twists that bring nothing to the story or the development of the characters and are simply there to provide shock value. I understood the intention Disney had to subvert the common sense regarding some concepts and characters in order to produce a different, new approach to a Star Wars movie. And honestly, there’s nothing wrong with that: it just wasn’t developed in a way that made sense. And I’m not talking about making sense in regard of the original movies - I’m talking about not making sense regarding TFA, released only two years prior. What happened to the bond between Finn and Rey? Why is Poe acting like a drunk, low-witted heteronormative straight man? What the fuck did they do to Luke Skywalker? Why Kylo Ren (arguably one of the most interesting and complex chaarcters introduced in TFA, who had a great potential to be developed into one of the most memorable characters of this new trilogy) was turned into a whining, spoiled toddler who acts as if he was just told he cannot have dessert before dinner by his parents?

Anyway, I’m writing all of this just so you’ll understand the mixed feelings I had when I entered the movie yesterday. Part of me knew nohing good could happen after that mess called TLJ, but a part of me was still too attached to TFA and wanted an ending that fitted and made justice to everything that was promised back then. But well, that first part of me wasn’t wrong. Unfortunately.

It is clear to me now that this entire trilogy was simply develop so Disney could fill their already full safes with a bit more million, billion dollars. Yes I know that’s not surprising and all and honestly we all knew that was (and still is) their intention, but as long as I am aware, it is possible to conciliate both approaches - the greed and a decent storyline, or at least the intention of developing one. But after TROS, it is clear to me there was never a central plot connecting these new movies, there was never a story to be told, there was never anything. Or at least that’s the impression that was left on me. The new movie is rushed, truncated, badly developed, filled with more holes than a slice of Swiss cheese. The atmosphere of freshness that existed in TFA was completely obliterated only to be susbtituted by an overeliance on the original trilogy. Damn, the movie itself was advertised as ‘the end of the Skywalker saga’ as if it was a good thing! The Skywalker saga finished 36 years ago, in ‘Return of the Jedi’. I didn’t want that ending to be reimagined and retold. I didn’t ask for it. I wanted to see the story that began in TFA expanded, developed, finished. But what did I get? A reeling chimera, a mindless Frankenstein monster constructed through fragments of the other eight movies.

It’s like Disney suddenly remembered that Finn and Rey existed in the same space and decided they needed to interact agaun, but had forgotten completely they tried to build something between Finn and Rose (was that her name? I don’t know, and apparently Disney doesn’t either), a character that barely had anything to say in the entire movie. And now suddenly Finn has a new friend, a forgetable character that contributed very little to anything. I’m not even gonna comment on the Finn/Poe relationship and the blatant heteronormativity regarding both because that would need a whole other post. Poe, on the other hand... I don’t know what they did to that character. I think Oscar Isaac and John Boyega are better qualified than me to discuss these issues regarding their characters - and, well, they did. If not even the actors who play the caracters you invented are satisfied with what you made of them, well, that’s a big red flag.

And the remaining of the characters? You don’t bring Lando Calrissian back for nothing like that. What happened to Maz Kanata, one of the most interesting characters in TFA? I mean, you don’t bring Lupita Nyong’o to the set only so she could record four sentences and then go back home. General Hux was a spy? Okay, but give me more thoughts on that. Oh too bad he was already blasted. Where is BB8? Why isn’t it doing anything? 

And then we get to Kylo Ren. Such wasted potential. This character could have developed in SO MANY WAYS only to become exactly what everyone knew (and nobody wanted) he would become: the once-evil-turned-good-guy-that-saves-the-girl-then-kisses-here-and-dies-and-she-is-sad. Jesus fucking Christ. Disney, I thought the entire point of TLJ was “we’re taking everything that was convential and smashing that and creating something new’ but I’m story, this boring trope has already been used and reused and reused again thousands of times. It’s not new. It’s not interesting. You could have done so much with this character, but in the end, you did nothing. And that’s frustrating. 

Finally, we get to the part that frustrates me the most: the return of Palpatine and imminent rise of the “Final Order”, or, as I prefer to label it, “Return of the Jedi re-imagined by a straight, low-witted white guy who had nothing better to do”. I’m not even gonna comment on the complete nonsense of this entire storyline because I think the movie talks by itself in this matter. The thing is: this entire plot was unnecessary and had approximately nothing to do with what was developed back in TFA, but since you chose to use it, the least that could be done was DO IT RIGHT. Do I need to say it wasn’t? 

It’s frustrating, you know. To see something that was so promising once become such a waste of potential, waste of character development, waste of opportunities, waste of innovation. I’m not gonna lie - I was expecting the movie to be WAY WORSE than it actually was, but that’s most likely because I already was with the lowest expectation possible. In the end, TROS was a fitting end for the Sequel Trilogy, because it symbolizes and summarizes it in a very simple and true manner: it is forgetable. It’s is superfluous. Just like the appendix attached to the large intestine: it contributes nothing and most of the time you forget it exists, and when you remember, you wish you didn’t. And, to me, that’s the worst thing a Star Wars movie can be: forgetable.

I feel so sad for the people whom have never seen this masterpiece... 

Here are my thoughts about it:

Attack on Titan is not your typical anime “superhero” bullshit... it´s not simply an “action anime” and that´s what i love so much about it. It´s a story so complete and beautiful in every way possible... It´s so much more than just action and fights... The thing i love the most is that there is no actual hero or villain, this anime teaches important lessons of life, as well as how the world actually works. It teaches us that there is always two sides of any coin, and that everything we see is not actually what we think it is... it explains that he world is not binary and always black and white... everything is so complex and simmilar to reality. IT´S GENIOUS!

 It doesn´t just focus on a single aspect... Attack on titan is not a story of “good” against “evil”.... it´s about two different mindsets fighting for their own piece... it doesn´t just speak about one caracter, or one single main goal... It doesn´t just speak about “heroes against villains”, because in this story, even the villains are victims in their own way.  The story doesn´t focus on a single preson or feeling... it speaks about every human feeling in life... It´s about Love, Friendship, Bravery, Wisdom, Power... it´s about Loyalty, Betrayal, Rage, Piece, DREAMS...!  It´s about will to live and struggle to learn more... it´s about fighting for FREEDOM and ending the misery and suffering of an opressing world.  

Everything about this anime... the story, the caracters and the way they are portrayed, all almost equally important, (instead of being only the main caracter), and to witness how they all grow and develop, all equally important and originally distinguishable... really touches my heart.  A beautiful story that portrays a unique hero, whom, relatably with real human beings, is not actually special. But has a heart of gold and, despite his phisical weakness, has the mentality of steel better than any hero i have ever seen from any story in my life.

I am imensly mesmerized inside and out... the beautiful mind blowing animation, the genious wrecking plot twists, to the most epic and original music and soundtracks...  the way how everything is so perfectly conected and, despite being a work of fiction, makes so much sense and touches our hearts in every single weak spot..!

Attack on titan is a fucking GENIOUS anime! This is everything you could expect from a series and a lot more... From an amazing incredibly written storyline, to tagic and devastating events, it can be at the same time so joyful and even funny.  It makes me cry my lungs out in sadness and pitty for the poor characters whom have died for a single dream.. or whom sacrificed themselves to allow their commarades to live on, and it makes me laught until my tummy hurts at same time with the caracter´s humour... IT´S BEAUTIFUL... and i cry amazed only by the beauty of it...

It´s tragic, it´s cruel, it´s real pain...!! But damn... it´s so fucking good, it´s so innocent like the heart of a child... it´s so emotional... But most of all, it warms my heart with the most pure, loving heat... A world so full of wisdom, yet so purely innocent at same time... and it just hugs our souls with love... I LOVE THIS SERIES...!!!  This is not even an anime... this is a work of Art. And it is... without any doubt, the best series in the history of anime!

( This is my favourite opening of this series, the one that shows the true heart of “Attack on Titan”  <3  Where we can see our loving Eren Jaeger looking up to his older self, innocently wanting to play, while his heart is full of hate and dreams. It makes me cry... it´s too precious... <3 :’(  )

The art in Akatsuki

Akatsuki is a group of very powerfull and complex characters of "Naruto" anime. They are in conflict with the main caracter and his village.

They show two visions of art through their members: Sasori and Deidara; Sasori is a master of puppets, meanwhile Deidara is a master of the use of clay.

It shows that both studied the realization of the artwork that they specialized in, with the instruction a master, the greatest different in them is the way of thinking.

Both members make art, but at his on way with a very different perception of the definition and the practice of it: in one side is Sasori who is like the old approach (before the avant-garde), he define it like something that lives on, that is made below the trade of art (understand the trade of art, like work hard on it, when is invested a lot of time to learn and make, the correct and best way to work with, creating a sempiternal or a long lasting object). In the other side, is Deidara, who define the art like after Marcel Duchamp, where the art is what the artists establish it to be, in this case, Deidara thinks the clay pieces like a way to get close to his definitive art: the finite moment of an explosion, romanticizing the act of destruction because he admires the magnificent and beautiful moment that it’s seen in chaos with his eyes.

The feeling that they transmit is different, too; First, Sasori feel the art like a beautiful everlasting object (that he use to protect himself), despite that this can be interpreted like a craftwork, the way that the character is structured won’t accept that definition; Second, Deidara thinks the art like a way to feel like something supreme, kind of a God-complex, the supreme feeling of making something that just the nature can create, the sublime chaos.

In fact, the Naruto’s anime is influenced by the different trends of art, and the perspectives of them specifically in Japan, that can be seen in their characters.

Before I start this review, a word of warning. Valium’s work is not for the faint of heart. It can be shocking and go against your core values. Especially if you are a religious person. His albums contain a lot of violence, porn and about everything that anybody has ever been disturbed by. It gives me a lot of joy to hold in my hands this new album. I first learned about Valium around 1998, while I was studying graphic design. I had a blast around those years, discovering what it could mean to be a comic book artist. There was this great store called Fichtre! and the owner, Yves, was the gracious host of a bunch of small press book launches. I didn’t miss a single one for a couple of years. This is where I discovered Valium. There was this giant book, impossible to ignore, right in my face. It was called “Primitive crétin”. I bought it without blinking.

Valium in all it’s glory

For those of you who don’t know of him, he’s considered by many has one of the pillards of Montréal’s underground art scene. For more than 30 years, he’s been producing incredible work. Comics of course, but painting, collages, sculpture, and ambient music.

Let me give you my appreciation of his body of work. Some people will look at Valium and dismiss it without having a second look. Many get vertigo just by looking at his pages. He clearly shakes us up in our comfort zone. He shares with us a sort of overdose of urban life. His vision of the complexity of our world and of the ambiant corruption that it contains. He shows us until which point the human condition can be pitiful. His way of doing things make him most likely of the biggest iconoclast that I know of. I feel like he gets pleasure out of bringing down institutions from their pedestal. His art culminates into a visual orgasm where all are equal and ridiculous.

The book

Simply superb. The printer did a great job. It’s quite a treat to see his work at this level of quality. All pages are bleed and most are illuminated in a fashion befitting a middle ages monk. Most of the illuminations are a mix of religious mosaics. All done by hand. If he ever does a gallery show, it’s quite a sight to see the original pages. The amount of time he spends on a page is borderline obscene. One drawback of the perfect bind is that some details is hidden in between the pages since you can’t open the book completely. Not sure what could’ve been done about that.

Comparaison between Primitive crétin, Valium ab bédex compilato and The Palace of Champions

The large format silk-screen books he used to print had a certain charm but a lot of details were lost. But you can find them all reproduced in a large high quality anthology book published by l’Association. I heartily recommend it. I saw a copy at Librairie Z, last time I was there.

The stories

Like most of his books it’s an uneven mix of many story types. The first, called « Lâcher de chiens » happens in Montréal’s alleys. Valium (the character) is attacked by two unwatched dogs. The police intervenes and things go wild. A classic Valium tale where a seemingly mondain event goes into a psychotic frenzy.

« Quebec is a schizophrenic » is inspired by tarot and medieval illuminations. Truly superb work. Not really a story, more like a series of illustrations.

« If you dig a hole in a forest and, later, an animal fall down in it and die, will it be your fault? » Is pretty funny and talks about his experience with his fans that want to be like him.

Jean-Guy (sous l’évier) et Valium

I think that my favorite story was Jean-Guy’s tale. One day a guy decides to go live under his kitchen sink. Jean-Guy came from a family living under a viaduct. Valium befriends him but one day, Jean-Guy disappears, oh no!

Interesting diseases

In « There’s better than lying: restrain the truth » you will find 3 hyper-detailed spreads. One with his famous Lekron et Iceberg caracters, another about invented diseases (a theme he seems to fancy) and another with a snake and latter gameboard.

Considering the amount of details he puts into one page. A new Valium book is an event to cherish. So I urge you to indulge and check it out.
