Julian and Keiko headcanons because Keiko gets sidelined so much and deserves the world and I wish we got to see them interact more

when they get stumped on their respective projects, they'll do late night work sessions together and bounce their research off each other to see if the other can help them figure out where the problem is. they'll do this in person when theyre both on the station, but also over call if one of them is away, and after the O'Briens move back to Earth

they edit each other's papers (Keiko marvels at Julian's ability to spell out complex chemical compounds with his eyes closed, and somehow use 'their' instead of 'there') (in his defense he wrote that bit at 4 in the morning after going 2 straight days without sleep) (she threatens to sedate him)

Julian sometimes brings back plants from planets they explore in the Gamma Quadrant and gives them to Keiko. sometimes he does it because the plant has medicinal properties and the two of them can do a joint research project, but most of the time he does it just to give her a nice gift

when Miles goes away for particularly dangerous missions, Julian will keep Keiko company and help keep her mind off of it. sometimes she has trouble sleeping because shes so worried, so he'll hang around and start rambling on about whatever he's currently working on until she falls asleep. he jokes he's boring her to sleep, but it actually means a lot to her

they have a weekly tea date. this is their prime gossip time. sometimes Jadzia is invited

when Keiko's mad at Miles she'll rant to Julian about it. Julian learned very quickly that this is not a time where advice is wanted, so he sits back and lets her get it all off her chest, because she really just wants someone to listen and let her blow off some steam

Julian makes a concentrated effort to learn more about plant husbandry and care after the incident where he accidentally killed some of Keiko's prized plants because he actually does feel very bad about it

Julian hovered over Keiko nearly as bad as Miles did when she was pregnant with Kirayoshi (and then he hovered over her even more after the pregnancy transfer, and he wouldnt tell anybody why, but Keiko knew it was because nearly losing her shook him up pretty bad)

when Julian gets outed for being augmented, Keiko goes to him and gives him the tightest, warmest hug he's ever gotten in his entire life

Julian gets invited to girls nights with Keiko and Molly (steady surgeon's hands make him the best one to paint nails) (he pretends to complain but he loves it)

anytime Julian has to go away for a scientific conference of any kind, if he gets to bring someone with him, his first choice is always Keiko

Literally he walks in— she’s asleep at TSJ’s side, direct parallel to him finding her at his side after his withdrawal— he wakes her, there’s this intense like “!!! You’re here!!!” thing between them, and then she goes to hug him and call him gege and he GETS UP AND LEAVES because he CANT FUCKING HANDLE THE FIRST THING SHE SAYS BEING GEGE.

She’s like ??? wtf why are you mad at me??? And he LEAVES THE ROOM— STILL HAVING NOT ACTUALLY HUGGED HER— and then she follows— still calling him gege— at which point he puts on the mask, repeats don’t call me gege, then says you’re so heartless you don’t even come to see me when you get better, the intensity gone so it sounds like he’s childishly petulantly jealous rather than INTENSELY AND VERY ADULTLY HURT, on account of the fact that his feelings are NOT what he felt when he was played by a precocious child actor.

So she cajoles and she soothes and she says gege gege gege until he pulls himself together enough to accept it again and be very nearly normal.

And then the rest of the episode is him being repeatedly hit over the head with the reality that she a) is completely in love with Tushan Jing/Ye Shiqi, (Xinyue and Fenglong are rather alarmed and distressed bc they had their perfect double marriage plot ready to go, but that’s neither here nor there)

and b) even if she weren’t in love with someone else, it certainly wouldn’t make her fall in love with him, as evidenced by the fact that she (blameless but oblivious!) sees no need to compromise about bringing her husband to stay by Cang Xuan’s side. “If you get married, how can you stay with me?” “Oh that won’t be a problem it will be him and I, and he will understand that I go with you, and he’ll go with me and then everything will be fine bam all childhood plans fulfilled!” Meanwhile Cang Xuan is about ten seconds from actually screaming because he has to give her NORMAL, DISINTERESTED advice about how Tushan Jing is too caught up in his family’s problems to disentangle himself, so she needs to think about this shit, and not the advice he wants to give, which is that well you could marry me. Or just stay. Don’t marry anyone else. And then everything would be fine.

Why are you in here, anyway?" She can only think of two reasons a fellow nonhuman would be inside this supposedly cursed estate of an eccentric collector. Her eyes widen. "Forget uncanny-- you're in trouble is what you are!"

wait wait wait tlou au where joel and tess get to robert after marlene has already left with ellie and the remaining fireflies, and so they head back to their apartment to figure out what to do. while they’re there, the radio turns on— never let me down again. 80’s. bill and frank are in trouble (dead, but they don’t know this yet). they pack up their stuff, and start making their way to their town to figure out what’s going on.

everything goes smoothly for the most part, but they reach the city and realize they have to go to the museum. with a sigh, they head that way. it’s as they’re getting closer that they hear it: gunfire and the screeching of clickers. joel and tess don’t even speak a word before they’re bursting through the door. they find ellie, marlene, and the fireflies fighting like hell, but it’s not going too well. marlene is injured from the fight with robert, ellie is unarmed, and the other fireflies aren’t in much better shape.

joel and tess take care of the clickers, and joel is itching to go and get to bill and frank, but tess is curious about just what marlene is up to, so she starts asking questions. who’s the girl. where are you going. how are you going to get her there if you’re bleeding out. that sort of thing.

and marlene— she doesn’t want to give answers. she doesn’t want to tell these two smugglers what’s going on. but she’s in a bad shape, she just lost multiple members of her team, and she knows she can’t get ellie where they’re going alone. but joel and tess… they can. so she says if they can get them to the statehouse, she’ll give them a car. supplies. whatever they need.

tess shrugs and convinces joel— it’s not that out of their way, and they could use the car to continue on to wyoming to find tommy after getting the girl where she needs to be. so they go, the four of them and what remains of marlene’s crew. anyways, something happens at the statehouse— maybe marlene gets infected, or she stays behind to fight the hoard, or whatever. but suddenly marlene cant go on, and joel and tess have to leave, and ellie has no choice but to follow them.

and then things go from there.

Thinking about Shigeo talking about his lack of control on s3 to his parents and being all anxious and still having the lingering "I am a monster" thoughts but both of his parents are just very happy that their son cried without exploding in powers like he did as a kid like !!!!
