Ok so it's taking me forever to get through my Walker re-watch because of the toddler and life in general but I have made a list of all heb products in the first 11 episodes so far.

Hey Sam - could you help out a Wisconsinite currently in Texas with a Very Pressing Issue? Is it pronounced "aitch ee bee" or "heeb" (or something else)?

It's pronounced as an acronym, Aitch Ee Bee, though generally it sounds to me like "Itchy bee".

I was trying to find the "Brisket in FIVE MINUTES" ad from HEB so you could see how it's said, but the Brisket In Five Minutes ad is hard to find so here, instead, enjoy some beefy guys talking beef:

As a natural-born, life-long Texan I am about to say something that might get me exiled from the state.

(Though that wouldn't be unusual. The king of France did exile my ancestors. Twice*)

Last year, H-E-B, a very prominent and popular grocery store chain in Texas, began opening some locations in the Dallas area.

Today, I decided to finally visit and see why it's so popular and I must say that I absolutely do not get the hype at all. Every time a new location opens, it is flooded with die-hard "fans" and I don't understand why.

Sure, many of the store-brand products are a little cheaper and are as good, if not better than, the similar major name-brand items. Other than that, it all seems to be just a fairly typical large grocery store.

Not to mention, a few of those H-E-B branded products are actually available in some local Mart-of-Wals locations here in Texas. Also, that supersized, blue and yellow, nationwide chain still has cheaper prices and a much larger selection of products.

I've been shopping at WallyWorld for so long, that I've even become accustomed to using the large self-service registers to check out. It's actually nice being able to purchase products without someone else handling them, potentially judging my choices, or wanting to engage in conversation. This H-E-B location did not have that option. The self-service stands were only available for people with 15 or less items. Not for those like me making a full-service grocery run. I think the last time I used a standard staffed register was before the apocalypse of 2020.

Essentially, the only reasons I can find for shopping at H-E-B are either to buy a few specific items or to try and develop some strange superiority complex over other Texans.

I will now sit here and wait for state troopers to come kick down my door and drag me across state lines; forbidding me from ever returning home.

(*Yes. My ancestors were literally exiled by the king of France twice. I don't know the story, but they were first exiled from France and settled in Canada. There is even a tiny town near Quebec named after them. Then the king exiled them again, forcing them out of Canada. Where they fled and eventually settled in Louisiana with some of the Acadian exiles.)
