Challenge #04221-K203: Good For What Ails You
Deregger escapees in a stolen ship nearly crash into the station due to lack of power to steer. Once rescued, the Gyiik in the station realize these Dereggers are badly starved, and kick into action to help them. -- Anon Guest
It had come in drifting, leaking, and clearly out of control. The comms were down, the lights were off, and scans recognised the atmosphere content inside it as 'terrible'. In the end of all things, it was a mercy that the station's Hungry Caterpillar devoured it.
One hundred and fifty souls were crammed in the ruin of a ship made for twenty, most of them were children. One hundred and fifty filthy human beings were decanted into emergency quarantine shelters. As soon as familial ties were identified, those families were re-united.
And then the Temple of Plenty sprang into action. Yes, the local Gyiiks argued, these people were in quarantine. Yes, they did have fragile systems that needed careful attention to detail... but they were also poor unfortunate souls who desperately needed something nice in their lives. Flavour. Variety. Choice!

Challenge #04007-J355: Essential Operations
Wraithvine and friends are asked to help teach apprentice healers who are going to be assigned to local orphanages to help care for the kids and keep them healthy. Some of the children come up to them with torn, or otherwise damaged, stuffies and ask the healers to please treat their "friends". -- Anon Guest
In any large enough city, it's no accident that Healer's schools are in close proximity to the orphanages or poorhouses. They are, after all, the places that need the most help, and more likely to take anything they can get.
Some are luckier than others, and have special guests who can accelerate the student Healer's progress.
Wraithvine took some time on a chair in a corner as hir class went through their patience. All of them practicing, When in doubt, clean and examine, as they went. Washing hands between patients was becoming a habit. Excellent. Ze'd just about worn hir tongue out in telling them. Bibrid was nervously teaching his methods to those who could use the relevant magics.

MiqoMarch Day 01 - Introduction
Arsay is not one to boast, but still she would speak of her roles and titles with pride. She saw them as proof of her worth in the world. After a break from facing apocalyptic scenarios, Arsay has begun to learn that she should strive to view herself beyond her accolades.

Because I can't move past this,
Tumblr media
All the images that Atom saw were of Zen just existing. Atom was shirtless when Zen tended to his wound. Atom has been touched by Zen at the pool. Atom has touched Zen on the porch. BUT HE THOUGHT OF NONE OF THOSE PHYSICAL MOMENTS!
Tumblr media
Atom didn't begin until after Zen messaged him because Zen was worried.
Tumblr media
Atom is so starved for affection and tenderness, that what he finds attractive about Zen is that Zen cares about him! This is also why Atom (and Ryu) love Grandma!
Tumblr media
Atom's dad does not listen to him. Atom's dad wasn't even concerned about Atom when he got into the fight. He was only worried about the scholarship!
Tumblr media
So for Atom to end this in tears emphasizes how much he just needs to be hugged.
Tumblr media
He tears up because he remembers that he isn't special. Zen smiles at Ryu too. Zen cares about everyone!
Tumblr media
Atom was a top basketball player, but he threw that punch knowing he would be expelled, and he didn't care because that isn't his dream. Atom may not know what he wants out of life because he has never been given a choice, but he knows he wants kindness and tenderness, which is why he checks on Zen, brings him food, and stands up for Ryu.
It's why he wanted Zen.
And it's why even when he is being his worst, he still cares.
Tumblr media
Someone hug my boy and tell him he was helpful.
Tumblr media
Someone treat him with care.

So my husband got sick last week from another coworker coming in while she was contagious, and as a result he missed a couple days of work. Because of that his paycheck this week was a few hundred less than what he usually gets, and since rent was due it basically took his entire check.
We don't have enough left to get us food and drinks to last the next two weeks and, of course, our roommates can't help with that and, in fact, have actively been making it more difficult to keep ourselves fed because they keep sneaking when we either aren't home or are asleep and eating our food without asking.
We haven't confronted them on this because neither of them handle being called out on bullshit well and tend to take even minor things that aren't of an accusatory nature at all as a Personal Attack for some reason. And we don't have, like, proper proof aside from our word against theirs that they've been taking our food and in general it just is not worth the headache and anxiety it would cause to bring it up.
We have a contingency plan to keep future groceries that don't have to be refrigerated in our room where they can't get to things, but, right now we can't even get ourselves anything because we are flat broke. So.
Opening Emergency Commissions for $5 headshot icons, and $15 full body single character deals. As long as you have a decent ref I can draw for pretty much any fandom, though I will admit that heavily robotic characters are not my strong suit. Some examples of my art can be found under my blog tag #nocturnal emissions!
If you don't need/want a commission but still feel like helping out, my PayPal is at [email protected], and reblogs of this post are much appreciated to get the word out!
And for anyone curious about how much we'd need to both get groceries and still ensure my husband has a way to get to work on the days he can't get a ride with coworkers, it'd likely be around 3-4 hundred to get by.

Challenge #04271-K253: You're With Us
The kobolds' burrows had collapsed in the trembler. They were lucky the entire warren had survived without a single one, nor any egg lost. The nearby adventurers with shovels and magic, helped rebuild the tunnels, and proof them against ever collapsing again no matter how hard the earth shook. -- Anon Guest
Propshore was a mining town, and Kobolds were treasured there. They had a sense for three-dimensional space that few could equal. They could tell the vulnerabilities in stone with a skill that was only rivaled by the D'varuv. The semi-reckless little Dragonkindred were favourites amongst all the miners and their families.
The mines survived the earthquake with little damage. The Kobold tunnels... could not be reached. Not by the means they all knew.
The reaction was instant. All of Propshore set out. Mothers had their newborns strapped to their chests. The infirm and the under-capable did sit-down work like winding bandages and mixing medicines, or looking after the ones too small to help but just big enough to get underfoot.

Challenge #04135-K117: Baby Steps
Vrax became closer to the badly harmed human. Introducing them to individuals who, though they didn't wear the uniforms, were highly trained therapists. It would take a long time, and a lot of careful, gentle, care. But this human was going to get the help they needed, even if it was in a round-about manner at first.
https://peakd.com/fiction/@internutter/challenge-02486-f296-some-of-parts -- Anon Guest
Nobody went homeless in the Alliance. Even if they chose not to avail themselves of the public services. There was always somewhere to take up a residence. If someone is found sleeping on a public bench, they're simply offered a place in a niche hotel[1] for the evening.
Nobody is punished for having nothing. If such a lack is revealed, the public services are offered.
Aunties are one such free-roaming services. They have a neighbourhood to patrol and regular residents to check on. Most people know to ask for help when they need it. Some need a little encouragement to recognise that they need help. One... believed they didn't deserve help. That's who Unty Vrax was working with.

I think the way nonprofits and public agencies are funded leads us to adopt some of the worst aspects of a capitalist mindset towards our service users.
In a business, the goal is clear: Generate profit. Sell more product, to generate more profit. Recruit more customers, to generate more profit. Upsell customers to a more expensive product, to generate more profit. Convince customers to keep coming back and buying more things, to generate more profit.
Manipulation is built into the process, and it's understood by all parties. When a business does something "for you," it's in the hopes that you'll buy (or keep buying, or buy more of, or persuade other people to buy) their product. When a company offers free ice cream with your insurance quote, it's not because they like you and and want you to have ice cream; it's because they want you to come for the ice cream, stay for the insurance quote, and buy their insurance policy before you leave, so they can get your money. Everybody knows this.
Nonprofits and public agencies theoretically don't have this motive. Theoretically, the services we offer are for you, the service user. Theoretically, there is no profit motive, and thus no motive for manipulation. Theoretically, whether or not people choose to use the services we offer has no effect on us, so our only goal in promoting or raising awareness of our services is so that potential users can know about them and decide whether or not to use them.
Theoretically.
But in reality, public agencies and nonprofits are funded by governments, foundations, and donors. They demand "data" to justify their funding, and a major source of "data" is the number of service users. Markers of success have to be measurable and numerical, even if that metric doesn't really make sense. So even if there's not directly a profit motive for recruiting service users as "paying customers," there can still be a financial incentive for recruiting as many service users as possible, including using "sales" techniques like giveaways and gimmicks.
Now, this isn't inherently a bad thing -- after all, people in the nonprofit sector want people to use our services, so we want to get the word out about what we have to offer. I'm not saying it's inherently wrong for a nonprofit to use a raffle or a giveaway or a pizza party or whatever to get the word out and recruit new service users.
But since the services we offer are supposed to be for the service users' own benefit, sometimes the attitude around promoting them slips into the idea that the people we're ostensibly trying to serve have to be manipulated or bribed or tricked into accepting services for their own good, because they don't know or care what's good for them.
This can get into some really unfortunate implications territory in the context of the demographics of people who tend to work at nonprofits and public agencies, compared to the demographics of people those agencies tend to serve.
Attitudes can quickly morph into "Those People don't care about their children's health/education/etc., so we have to trick and manipulate and bribe them with food and prizes."
There's a difference between "Giveaways are a fun way to get the word out about our services" and "Those People don't care about their children's diabetes risk unless we make them sit through a lecture before we give them food." And way too many public agency and nonprofit workers, in private, in what they think is a sympathetic audience, are way too open about saying the latter.
