Heronleg lives a fairly boring life, and he's never been all that into warrior life either, unlike his dedicated and loyal sister, Smallbrook, who became deputy. He often thought there was something wrong for him for not being as thrilled about being a warrior like his sister and clanmates. He dreamed of being a loner and exploring the world, or a kittypet learning the ways of a twoleg, but he never dared act on those thoughts, feeling ashamed of himself.

He enjoyed training his apprentice, Sheeppaw (warrior name unknown), though, and considered him his best friend under Tumblespring.
