I have a question to my fellow fic writers/headcanon people in the Hetalia fandom: When you think about Human AU versions of the characters, how do you decide on their religion (if you make them raised religious/actively religious)? Especially when you have a country with several, sizeable denominations or branches or ... versions of a religions? (I was raised Evangelical, aka Protestant in Germany, so I only know it's denomination for Christianity. But I do know that there's also different branches for other religions). Do you go with what's statistically most likely? Go with what you want to explore the most? Go with what you know the most? I'm curious.

I've been thinking about what brand of Christianity I should give my Scottish OCs, including the Scotsman himself, for a while now but I can't seem to make up my mind. He has a Highland Clan surname, so Catholic would make sense. He was born and raised in Edinburgh however and I also always find it quite funny when he calls the Irishman 'Cath boy.'

(I also mentioned Human versions specifically because I'd imagine that the thought process for headcanons set in the canon universe is a bit different, since they were alive for much longer and are influenced by their surroundings in a different manner).

Thoughts on soviet bloc hetalia (mostly interested in lithuania and prussia)?

Okay so I have some controversial opinions on Gil here

1. I don't think he's the rebellious suave spanner in the works people think he is. IRL DDR actually distrusted Poland because they thought the Poles were always up to something breaking the rules.

Gil is quite fine with having people having authority over him as long as it plays into his ego or suits him for the time being in some other way.

Gil is the type to mock someone else for not standing up to Ivan then go and do everything Ivan tells him to.

Sure he dislikes Ivan but given that he gets to be a nuisance to people like Tolys is always a plus. Unfortunately Tolys is in a rough place at the moment so he's not as fun to poke at. Gil will bring out that old fierce Lithuania he knew at Grunwald somehow. Until then he can mock lithuania and be an ass, along with the occasional act of kindness because he's the type.

And no, this doesn't mean he can't engage in the debauchery that he usually does in canon in fanon, it means he is simply like letting a dog run wild in a yard for a few hours before calling it back inside for the evening.

2. I don't think Gilbert deserves the amount of sympathy he gets for this period of his life.

He's Prussia, and I, like Tolys, know the history and call bullshit to his tale garnering sympathy.

If anything it's poetic irony that the person who betrayed and double-crossed in the name of power and divided the commonwealth putting Tolys at the mercy of Ivan, has ended up right in Ivan's hands, his country divided in half.

Moving on

Okay anyway I think if it weren't for Ivan's personality, Gilbert would be far more accepting of this situation. Ivan's just weird and canonically Gil is uncomfortable with him. Ivan also likes seeing Gilbert submit to him.

I think Gil mainly just is the type that tries to mold situations to his benefit rather than fighting against the situation.

This delights someone like Ivan though as Gilbert is like a new toy to him.

Speaking of Ivan

Oooh Ivan is the one holding the red strings of fate that brought Tolys and Gilbert into this predicament and it's perfect for him, now between that an the purges surely ivan's delusions dreams of having a wonderful family will be realised.

So naturally it's fun to keep these two together and watch them interact, making sure they know that they need to get along as they are are all equals here beneath Ivan and family. I totally see him doing things to force Gilbert and Tolys to bond. In a way though this backfires because Tolys is reminded of who he used to be when he sees Gilbert and the urge to break free from the restraints his current situation holds him in, and just beat the shit out of Gilbert just because is almost greater than the hold Ivan has on him. Gil likes it more when Tolys is more of a challenge so I think he weirdly lifts Tolys up slowly, both emotionally and mentally. Gilbert is a reminder to Liet that the current Tolys doesn't have to be permanent.

I can see Ivan doing that thing they do in sitcoms where someone "accidentally" locks two people in a storage closet to get them to figure out together how to get out and bond in the process.

It's fun for Ivan to watch them bicker only to remind the two of them that they belong to him.

I got into hetalia in middle school (maybe 2017-2018?) and actually ironically it was for a boy I liked. Because he asked me if i liked hetalia (he doesnt like hetalia he was just looking for conversation topics and knew I liked yaoi and knew hetalia had yaoi) and I had no clue what hetalia was and told him i LOVED hetalia. So then i immediately went home and consumed all of it so I could pretend I've been a diehard hetalia fan since forever, and just ended up actually liking it! I've been into vocaloid for as long as I've used youtube. I've grown up on a computer with unrestricted internet access, in fact i dont have any memories of my life when I didnt have any computer access (which surprisingly did NOT lead me to be heavily trauamtized and go insane! I'm a rare exception to this type of exposure) and have always liked watching vocaloid videos on youtube. I consider myself a vocaboomer lol because I prefer older style content and culture.

Germany is my absolute favorite hetalia character! And also just my favorite character in general (he has been since around 2018/2019... so 5-6 years now!). Hmmm... I have a whole playlist of itager songs, but I dont have many songs I associate with just germany alone. I think its because a lot of the vocaloid songs I listen to aren't the type that would usually have things that remind me of germany because of the music genre and subject type. I can't think of any vocaloid songs off the top of my head, but I do have an iosys touhou song that reminds me of him! (I love touhou!!)

This song is very much germany to me. In fact sakuya in general reminds me deeply of germany ^_^ I think the flowering night theme is very much a germany song.

My favorite Hetalia Headcanon

In my mind, Prussia never "died". It was assimilated into the GDR (DDR) and when the wall fell, he and Germany "died" and were reborn as West and East. Maybe Germany's now West hair got a little more silver and maybe Prussia's now East got a little more blonde. Maybe they have now the same eyecolor. After all, the wall fell, but in the minds of many Germans, the wall still exists.

People in Hetalia are kind of aware of countries. Kind of, like the French Soldier in "Though I May Depart, You Shall Remain", the tourist that didn't recognize France as an eldritch being in "A Bientôt! (Until We Meet Again)", or Ireland's neighbor in HWS 413 having to deal with Ireland screaming at night...?

If they are just doing their life, unless someone already knows them as part of "those people" (<-tiny bit of nudity there), people could just see them as regular humans, enough to even work as spies.

...But then you have mf Prussia. Except a more than 10 years old occasion when he showed blue eyes, Hideraz always paints his eyes in some tone of red, pink, or light-blue/pink. Having albinism or not (headcanons vary), a soldier with such peculiar eye color would stick out.

And sadly, irl people often stare... Gilbert still could be seen as a ordinary person, albeit a bit distinctive, right? Except that he often has a wild bird with him--besides he's so loud.

I headcanon that people in Berlin know who is Gilbert on sight--like the people knowing France in Paris--but Gil is also very evident even outside the capital. Germany alone maybe just looks like some muscular young man, while if he is hanging around with Prussia, by looking at both faces, it becomes obvious they are "Mister" Germany and "Mister" Prussia.

Fellow nation people 99% of the time use Prussia to call Gilbert (and vice versa), but some normal citizens may call him GDR, after all that country existed for 41 years... Nowadays, Gil may tell some common people he likes and sees more frequently to just use Gilbert or Beilschmidt.

I just had a dream...

So I'm with a bunch of friends, strangers, and a dude who I don't recognize but is a host of a gameshow (dream logic). We have the Wii set to the tv. WiiFit U is in the game, the newest version to date, and when we got the game going, they were like "Oh it's a new day. You have to do the daily test."

The host of a gameshow made himself the photo of my profile for fun and handed me to remote. I stand up and get ready for exercise, "Oh great I'm going to fail some easy warmup thing for balance, and I'll make myself a fool." I think to myself.

Surprise, the test is something I haven't seen before from the WiiFit. It's a dance exercise like Just Dance or DDR. Now I'm suprisingly good at Just Dance, so this is fine. Except it seems there is this new feature where it can take a video off the internet randomly. Okay, that's fine, since it's still a video of a subject dancing who I can copy.

We see the title of the intro, and it's this early 2010's windowmakers PowerPoint animation intro with visible pixels, maybe 720p.

I was halfway embarrassed for what appeared because I knew exactly what appeared, no one else in the room knew either the song, or that these types of videos were so popular when I was a kid. I'm not mentally prepared, but I can do this.

The video? What does WiiFit want me to do in front of friends and strangers?

Since Gilbert is the weirdest hetalia character (who else has represented multiple states?) Which one of his "aspects" do you like to think about most? religion from his Teutonic days? war in Prussia days? DDR days? reconciling his past in modern times?

I don't have the best background information on Prussia admittedly which makes me feel like I don't understand a lot of the historical Hetalia surrounding Gilbert. I only know shit mainly from how it relates to Poland. One day I'll finally understand Prussia.

I think DDR gil is interesting but I'm still trying figure him out. It's just funny because like the DDR just feels like an experiment and it's very different than prior eras. Apparently this period was described as a period of forced friendship between Poland and The DDR. These two have issues and I feel like Gil is enjoying his new role while Feliks is still really pissed off and just trying to move forward but doesn't give a shit about this whole communism thing.

I don't think I'm well knowledged enough to really write any era Gil.

I'm a bit turned off from Teutonic Gil now. That's a long story...
