High Polycount mesh

So I'm currently converting a piece of clothing by SeoulSoul (literally the best cc cretor in sims 4 imo lol) But now the item I am converting has a polycount of 36K! What a way to destroy your sims 3 gameplay... I've been looking for tutorials on how to reduce the polcount without losing much of the quality. Here's what I know:

I can use the Decimate Modifier to reduce the polycount. BUT! With that, it splits the mesh... is there a way to work around that?

I can use Milkshape and use the Direct X Mesh Tool and reduce t by 1000 each time.... Is that more effective?

Is there any other way? Or can I use these ways but more effectively? If so can someone help me out!

I've been slowly optimizing the CC I use and as a part of it, I've limited the texture size of smaller deco items to 512x512 (still a big texture!).

Results?

My downloads folder is half a GB lighter.

I was able to play the heaviest beach lot of mine without a single crash or flash. As well as the super deco-heavy lot before it.

I don't really zoom in to observe these objects while playing so I didn't even notice the quality loss. Also, the mushiness comes from resizing. No one could tell the difference if these textures were made smaller in the first place.

One interesting observation I've made is that the older 'HQ' stuff (read: BPS content) might have crazy polycounts but they most often come with very reasonable texture sizes. No wonder pink flashing wasn't a plague back then.

TS3 Functional Closet Mod

The idea for this mod started with my want to convert TS2 Apartment Life closet. I could have used the Supernatural wardrobe as a base, but I wanted the doors to have proper animations and the ability to function like real closet doors against the wall, similar to how doors work in the game. So, this mod was created! 😊

What is this mod?

This mod functions as a dresser but includes a new animation that allows the doors to slide open like an actual closet. When the closet opens and closes, the Sim plays an idle animation, and when changing clothes, they use the spin animation.

The mod includes two different types, depending on the closet:

Dresser Type – Offers the same interactions as the base game dresser. This type is best for closets without mirrors.

Mirror Type – Includes interactions from the vanity table in Supernatural and Showtime (Don’t worry, the mod is 100% base game compatible!).

Important! This mod does not add a closet object to the game by itself. It only provides the necessary functionality for closet objects to work properly!

The Closet Object:

As mentioned earlier, this mod was created because I wanted to convert TS2 closet. The conversion is included with the mod, and you're welcome to use it as a base for creating your own closets! 😊

The closet comes in three different versions:

Opaque

Mirror – This version is split into two parts: the closet and a separate mirror for the animated door. To use it properly, simply place the mirror on the closet—it will slot into place and move with the door 😊

Glass

Both merged and unmerged versions are included—please install only one! (The merged file does not include the mod itself.)

How to Install?

Place the mod and the closet objects in your Mods/Packages folder.

Choose the version you'd like to clone as your base and ensure the OBJK is set correctly in S3PE for the closet type you want.

Sooo, recently I've found a way to fix (in my opinion) "unfinished", alpha custom content made for TS4. First I tried to remodel a high-poly shirt and copy the UV map from the original to the low-poly one. With this method I was able to decrease the polycount from 19k to 1,8k in 2-3 hours.

After that I tried to figure out a faster method and found an open source auto remesher addon/plugin for Blender which cut the work time in half, 1 hour! Tried this plugin out with another shirt and I was able to cut down ~8k polies AND keep the quality that the original shirt had!

Then another one!

I honestly don't know what to say. I am convinced now that most TS4 CC creators only make their work to fill their pockets and wallets. I know they say that they do this out of a hobby, but PLEASE, if you put your work behind a paywall, at least make sure it's optimized.

Unrelated to what I've been posting (or maybe not?) but I converted a lamp yesterday from ts4 which was 24-something k poly and managed to get it down to 9k WHILE keeping its details so with all due respect but HOW??

Do the fancy cc creators from ts4 (read: those obsessed with rules and tous and patreon but will pretend to be blind to EA's terms :p) even check polycounts? Like, there's absolutely no way a bloody sofa blanket is +15k poly either 😤
