Another poll related to my project ideas (please DO NOT STEAL)
Some clarification because the poll options had a word limit
the girl reporter lead in my queer Twelve Dancing Princesses is intended to be inspired by Katherine from Broadway's version of Newsies (and this movie would take place around that same historical era) and I thought it'd just be better to have a girl reporter lead initially after the story (and who can blend in better with the twelve princesses) who then ends up falling for one of the princesses than how the original story has a guy after princess-as-prize-to-be-won
the Tiger Lily thing is because not only have I felt Disney should deserve a shot at redemption for how the original Peter Pan ended up but (unless it was explained and I just don't know) it's always fascinated me what the hell Native Americans were doing in Neverland in the first place so I thought (if it wouldn't be offensive to write about a fictional tribe that doesn't exist in reality) it'd be a cool sort of prequel to write (albeit with Native cultural consultants or w/e) about a tribe escaping white settlers to a land always thought to be mythical perhaps mainly due to a badass princess leading the way. I apologize if any of this would end up being insensitive, I won't make it if it's too disliked and it wasn't meant to be.
what I mean by modernized-a-la-Tangled is my version of The Marvelous Land Of Oz would be tweaked-somewhat for modern sensibilities the way Tangled did to the original Rapunzel story (e.g. getting rid of the scene where this book's particular wicked witch gets scared off via talking mice because women are afraid of mice right) but it'd keep more of the core story than Tangled did
yeah I know the story of Purim goes to some R-rated places but those would be toned down (e.g. offscreen implied-violence or the sexual elements getting dialed back to around the level something like Aladdin could get away with) and while this would still be on the thematically-darker side of Disney movies if it was indeed made one (like The Hunchback Of Notre Dame or even Coco) I think it still has the potential for a cool story with some relevant themes (like inner beauty or the importance of speaking out) and it'd give us a Jewish Disney Princess that's more than just what Elena Of Avalor gave us with Princess Rebecca and do so without mentioning God (as the story of Purim is one of the only "Jewish holiday backstories" if not the only one that doesn't involve god at all)

I had an egg and it ended up "dying" but only because the alternative would be the ridiculous-even-if-this-were-a-sitcom-plot situation of me taking the "egg baby" on a plane because this assignment was over a break and my family was flying out of state
okay americans i gotta ask because as an European i grew up with lots of american shows and cartoons and in a lot of them there was an episode where they give the protags a doll or an egg or a bag of flour or whatever and told them pretend to be its parents or something

Thoughts on a very anxiety-inducing Tracker
that's a different opening (and different kind of needle drop)
Obligatory shirtless scene but boy am I glad to see Reenie
guess we're getting another kinda-tracking-both-stuff-and-people episode like "Lexington"
Also another Reenie "mythology episode"
Sounds like their dads would get along
Oh hell no skydiving no
So the dude's mad shady please don't get in danger again Reenie
wasn't it not a clear day but good to see he's in the sunlight
there's your plane crash
ok not the dead guy we were expecting
Guess that's one way to gain access
There, now he gets to actually do some tracking (people on Reddit were complaining he wasn't)
another bit of chaotic good coolness from Reenie (I wonder if she has a Snake/Slytherin secondary in the sortinghatchats system)
As expected, they're heading for the border
that's one of the missing people found
in action shows as in horror movies, going for help means the bad guys beat you there
tea, earl grey, pretty damn useful
thanks for not having her wait in the truck
geez how many bodies has it been
both missing siblings found
am I missing something or (rhetorically) how the hell did Colter pull off that shot
and there's the more-like-the-show's-usual-sound needle drop (and what the hell was that song it sounded freaking familiar)
Another potential could-be-a-date-if-you-want-to-take-it-that-way scheduled (and I'm not sure if it's a good or bad thing that Reenie wants to wear Manolos on a fishing trip just to prove to Colter she can beat him while in them)

And now I'm just thinking about my desire for Disney to make some kind of A Bug's Life musical and how, yeah, they'd need to rename the character named after that moth species and the new name would sound too weird as a character name so maybe she'd actually get a proper name like Rosie the spider or pillbugs Tuck and Roll
On related note, a few years ago, the Entomological Society of America officially discontinued the use of "gypsy moth" and "gyspy ant" as common names for Lymantria dispar and Aphaenogaster araneoides. L. Dispar is now known as the "spongy moth," so named for the appearance of their eggs, but I don't think a new common name has caught on for the ant species yet.
These changes we brought about, in large part, by the advocacy of Romani people in academia. You might not think that bug names are a very serious issue, but I believe that language matters. These species became known as "gypsies" because their attributes were likened to certain stereotypes and negative perceptions of actual Roma, so the continued use of those names reaffirmed those negative associations in the public consciousness. Slurs and pejoratives can never be truly decontexualized.
In my mind, one of the biggest obstacles that Romani people face when we are trying to advocate for ourselves is a lack of recognition as a marginalized group that deserves the necessary consideration. Even for seemingly trivial matters, like bugs or comic book characters, the way that people talk about us-- and talk down to us, when we get involved-- is telling. So, I always think that changes like this are a win, because it means that people are willing to learn and grant us the dignity we deserve. And there's nothing wrong with wanting to effect change in your own field, even arts and science.

Thoughts on a show CBS should give a second chance and a show that perfectly complements it enough that they should stay together
So Help Me Todd (#savesohelpmetodd #renewsohelpmetodd #wrongdecisionCBS)
Interesting opening
Feeling sympathetically overloaded on Margaret's behalf
Is she going through some sort of Lesson Zero scenario
oy Todd, really, tacos
Nice meta reference to show's fate struggle
Now that's a different way to commit a crime
Of course Todd watches Ghosts (or their universe's version)
Todd and his ego applied to funeral arrangements, holy Hamilton
nice to see more Todd and Lyle even if it is "Lyle after dentist"
Ok Folding backstory please, why does he have a server despite not showing up at work
Of course Lyle's the sysadmin
LYLE SAID THE SHIPNAME!
What is with everyone and the really obnoxious patterns this episode (some might be fine on their own but not all at once!)
OK this just turned into a Shakespearean comedy
I really hope more seasons of this show mean more of Todd pretending to be a lawyer (perhaps as potential foreshadowing)
Did Todd-as-Folding, Susan and Lyle just pull a Leverage and let's go steal a client?
Hmm... wonder if more seasons might reveal some identity thieving ring shenanigans as that reminds me of Veronica and there's still the Tuttle case implicitly up in the air
Again, Allison, a little too relatable
Very Murder She Wrote of a case crack
instance #2 of Todd making himself come off as a lawyer that could foreshadow things in more seasons
and Todd figures out what I figured out
and proof of the Shawn/Gus inspiration for Tyle
sweet ending
Was the part about trust the product them pleading with the network
Elsbeth
doctors, dinner parties that almost feel like family dinners, rejected partnerships, what is this So Help Me Todd
Well hello another example of how "kids these days" are the Elsbeth writers' kryptonite
First Grey Gardens in E4 now a needle dropera (I guess it halfway-counts as the Musical Reference Of The Episode to have some Carmen show up), this show never ceases to amaze
And Elsbeth gets more and more neurodivergent every episode
Worst foe of anyone with ADHD, someone else using speech-to-text
Hey don't knock the polka dots
oh how convenient with the doctor thing
Further proof why the shows shouldn't be separated, that reenactment thingie was totally a Todd/Lyle move
Thank you texts on screen
Elsbeth standing out against the white and stimming with things she shouldn't
Elsbeth, they're lesbians
I'd be concerned about anything coming at my face
Sheep placenta, ew
is this whole episode just going to have a generation gap theme
Hello symbolism (and good taste) with Elsbeth's love for Alice In Wonderland and her climbing through the statue and hello clarification on what she's here to do
Kaia saw, Kaia sus or nah
either way another couple-or-just-besties-coded moment with the sneaking up behind and that close to her mouth
Smooth trying to sneak the insinuation at Wagner's guilty conscience
Ok so what's the wife got to do with anything
Oh so that's what (fake chart info)
Thank you other surgeon for not making Elsbeth feel insecure
sympathizing with um actuallying someone about the law
If the shoes fit
Girls bonding over mod-podge and Elsbeth spills the beans, let's see how this ripples

That's kind of a weird question for me as most of my "emotional support Arthurian fiction" was either animated, books/comic books or certain urban fantasy TV shows that didn't feature Arthurian characters directly (or at least not King Arthur) but featured other aspects of the mythos had a lot of subtext to imply its ensemble were somehow certain Arthurian characters reborn. I guess my answer would be Bradley James even though I only watched a little bit of Merlin as thanks to the fandom and my best friend that show means a lot to me even if by proxy/indirectly and also he still was technically the first live-action Arthur I saw as King Arthur and co. didn't show up on Once Upon A Time until around 2016
Limiting the choice to the shows and movies I have seen/know of. I'm not asking who the first actor you have seem playing Arthur was, rather the one you instinctively think about when someone mentions him or the one closest to your heart.

OK so how do we use that to get Warner Bros. to stop shelving movies for those reasons without either doing the thing or tipping our hand
One of these days some enterprising con artist is going to make up a fake quirky little sci-fi movie, claim that it's been fully produced but Warner Bros. permanently shelved it for a tax writeoff, raise a couple million dollars in crowdfunding to "buy back the rights", then disappear off the face of the planet and take the money with them, and they'll 100% get away with it because really, who are we going to believe?

yeah just saw perhaps one of the worst of it (or at least the worst performatively-hating on this new album specifically), guy claims that she can't be a "tortured poet"/tortured artist because she's a billionaire and has hurt the environment something something private jet meme when "true tortured artists live paycheck to paycheck at a garbage job they hate" said with an implicit tone (as much as tone like one would say a thing can be implicit in text) that implies that the only way a "tortured poet"/"tortured artist" who's a musician can blow up without selling out and proving they're a shill who might as well having being an industry plant retconned into their backstory would be posthumously when their recorded-in-their-bedroom albums are found in their run-down apartment after they committed suicide in a way that's either cheap or the-sort-of-way-people-who-claim-the-dark-academia-aesthetic-would-thematically-do-so (depending on what this person wants to emphasize about real tortured artists vs Taylor supposedly being a fake one) but either way probably has a 50% chance of involving some kind of drug or alcohol overdose
the bravest person in the world

Bad take but not for the reason you think, your overromanticization of tortured artists in the equal and opposite way to try and pit them against your perception of her. Are you not a tortured poet if you're apathetic (even if you don't love it) about your job or anything more than dirt poor (even if you, like, have a mental illness or w/e, not saying she does but that's an angle you didn't mention of what might make someone this) and is the only way a "tortured poet" musician can blow up without selling out posthumously when their self-recorded CDs are discovered in their run-down apartment (not even a house) after they've committed suicide via a method either cheap (if what you want to pit against her being a supposed fake tortured poet is the poverty angle) or #aesthetic (if you instead want to emphasize the dark-romanticism)
miss swift you are not a tortured poet you are a billionaire

No but I have twice stopped watching a show because a misleading trailer made me think a character was going to die (or at least as-close-as-we-could-get-to-talking-about-dying-on-a-kids'-show because I was in elementary school at the time and these were kinda the closest my era had to dark-but-still-light adults-could-watch-them-with-their-kids cartoons like Steven Universe or The Owl House)
Im curious.

But inquiring aspiring musician wants to know, can you write your "little stories" in first-person from someone else's POV (like people don't realize Taylor Swift does more often than you think because of the reason I'm about to state) or if it's not third-person and nothing too out-of-the-ordinary happens will people automatically assume it's about your own life if you say "I"/"me" etc. esp. if you're a female-identified artist who has a somewhat "relatable" image (because I guess people assume women always write their personal stories unless it's otherwise obvious it's not personal e.g. even in non-Taylor-related female country alone Vicki Lawrence never killed her brother's cheating wife and Carrie Underwood never trashed her boyfriend's car)
i think we should remind musicians they can absolutely make up little stories for their songs btw. it doesn鈥檛 have to be about them at all. you can invent a guy and put him in situations to music. time honoured tradition in fact.

And also the way I see Hanukkah as important to American Jewish culture is a little different from most people as given the story and themes of Hanukkah the more (within reason) Hanukkah is brought-mainstream-even-if-it-can-only-do-so-through-commercialization the more it's our way of saying "we are here, we are here" against the overwhelming Christmas pressure (and Hanukkah being made a big deal of actually benefits non-Jews who still don't like the over-commercialization of Christmas as as most of the time Hanukkah comes before it, a "Hanukkah season" in the same way there's a "Christmas season" basically puts a temporal line in the sand which the Christmas season cannot reach behind to e.g. have Christmas stuff start before Halloween or even the day after)
You know, I used to feel a little guilty about how important Chanukah was to me and my family, until I realized that American Jewish is itself a culture.聽 Chanukah has become important in that culture.聽 These things happen in a diaspora.聽 (And yes, it commemorates some politically questionable acts, but come on, I don鈥檛 want the Greek Syrians to have won, and everyone likes twinkly lights, and I don鈥檛 harass Christians about the history of Easter pogroms.)

or if that wouldn't conflict with any promised-land-y stuff about Israel said constitutional monarchy is essentially as close otherwise as you could get to something that's to Jewish people as Wakanda is to black people and the prince initially has to hide who he is until the revelation but the public sector chick becomes the first Jew from the outside world to see this place so she's even more of a big deal
What if they made one of those royal romance holiday movies for Jewish holidays鈥n Passover a harried New York public sector employee meets the prince of a small Jewish-majority constitutional monarchy.聽 No explanation for where this country is.聽 No explanation for what its place in history has been.聽 It just exists and no one questions it.
(Alternately, she does question it, and he just blows it off with a remark about how bad Americans are at keeping up with international politics.)
