According to folklore, there was once a church where the hill now stands. My first visit to Lithuania was in 2016. That summer, I totally missed the crazy coup in Turkey cos I was camped out at a music festival in neighbouring Latvia. I read about this hill of crosses but was too lazy to figure out the bus connections tsk tsk. @jvahiz drove down a gravel country road to get here, no thanks to Google Maps and I think we totally earned the free parking for this visit.
