Howdy! I was just curious, and I don’t know if I’ve seen you answer this for anyone else. What made you decide to have pov in your fic be a coder?
hello there! i'm not sure anybody else has asked, so thank you for being among the first! (or just straight up the first, my memory is goofysilly)
i wanted to fill a role on the ship that seemed realistic and aligned enough with my own skills! granted, i am so not a coder! my actual job is an artist and moderate for art groups. i hire coders for my own site instead of doing it myself lol. but that's a hyper-specific job that wouldn't be needed on the Tulpar, and i did take python classes in highschool and know some limited html/css, so... coder it was!
after putting that into the story, i realized that i could actually do something fairly powerful with it, such as having the reader character straight up access stuff in the cockpit through bug fixing and getting a little nosy while working. a job in tech could certainly come in handy if one wanted to change the gears of fate, even if only a little... 🤔
also, in the chapter named "twenty-five" (which isn't 25, haha, it's like chapter 23) i also sprinkled in a little bit of my special interest in nuclear (disaster) history with mentioning the therac-25! malfunctioning code can sometimes be a life or death issue, and while that never presented itself in the canon of mouthwashing, i figured it felt realistic enough given the tulpar's age and pony express's tendency to cut corners.

Why Emotional Intelligence Is More Important Than IQ in Tech Hiring
Published by Prism HRC – Leading IT Recruitment Agency in Mumbai Since coding tests, technical interviews, and online certifications are so important in recruitment today, many think a high IQ is all you need to get into the tech world. Surprisingly, many companies today are turning away from brains and more towards a talent less widely discussed, yet much more important—Emotional Intelligence (EQ). If you ask if that’s important when so much is computer-driven, the answer is a simple yes.
What Is Emotional Intelligence, and Why Does It Matter in Tech? Emotional intelligence, or EQ, is the ability to recognize, understand, and manage your own emotions while also being able to read and respond appropriately to the emotions of others. In simpler terms, it’s how well you work with people. In tech, where team dynamics, collaboration, and cross-functional projects are the norm, EQ is the glue that holds great teams together. And in our experience at PrismHRC, it's often the trait that separates a competent candidate from a great hire.
Tumblr media
Here’s Why EQ Now Outranks IQ in Tech Hiring 1. Technical Skills Can Be Taught; EQ Can’t You can train someone in Python. You can teach someone how to use Kubernetes. But it’s far harder to teach someone how to listen actively, give constructive feedback, or stay calm under pressure. Tech hiring managers we work with increasingly prioritize attitude over aptitude. Why? Because technical gaps can be closed with time. But emotional blind spots? Those tend to create friction, reduce team morale, and lead to turnover. 2. Remote Work Demands Better Self-Awareness and Communication Let’s not forget: many tech teams are now fully remote or hybrid. Without body language, casual desk conversations, or quick sync-ups, communication has become more complex. In 2025, a candidate with high EQ knows: • How to read tone in an email • When to speak up in meetings and when to listen • How to handle misunderstandings without blowing things up We’ve seen clients at Prism HRC hire candidates not because they had the most certifications, but because they could collaborate smoothly across time zones and personalities. 3. Great Coders Don’t Always Make Great Team Members Brilliant developers can still derail projects if they can’t take feedback, reject ideas without empathy, or struggle to collaborate. Hiring managers now ask: • Can this person navigate disagreement professionally? • Will they mentor junior devs with patience? • Do they uplift team morale or quietly drain it? Technical brilliance without emotional maturity can actually slow teams down. Companies are learning that the hard way and adjusting their hiring processes accordingly. 4. Leadership in Tech Is Now EQ-Driven As tech roles grow into product ownership, team leads, or engineering management, EQ becomes essential. Today’s leaders need to: • Navigate conflict • Handle stress gracefully • Empathize with stakeholders • Support mental wellness within their teams At PrismHRC, we often help our clients identify high-potential talent not just based on skills, but on leadership qualities rooted in emotional intelligence.
Tumblr media
What Companies Are Looking For in 2025 When evaluating EQ, here’s what stands out: • Self-awareness: You know your strengths and limitations. • Empathy: You understand and care about others' perspectives. • Communication: You’re clear, respectful, and thoughtful. • Adaptability: You handle change and feedback constructively. • Conflict resolution: You can disagree without being disagreeable. And the good news? These are all skills you can grow with practice, feedback, and intention. Before you go In 2025, emotional intelligence isn’t just a “nice to have.” It’s a core hiring criterion, especially in companies that care about long-term culture, collaboration, and leadership development. At Prism HRC, we’ve worked with hundreds of clients who are no longer just hiring the “smartest person in the room”; they’re hiring the one who can build bridges, stay grounded under pressure, and inspire others. If you’re preparing for your next big opportunity in tech, don’t just polish your coding skills. Work on your presence, your patience, and your empathy. Those are the qualities that will carry you further than any technical certificate ever will.

Why Modern Businesses Must Hire Data Scientists To Stay Ahead
In today's data-driven world, every click, transaction, and customer interaction holds value. But unlocking that value requires more than just technology—it demands the right people who can transform raw data into strategic decisions. That’s where the need to hire data scientists becomes not just an option, but a necessity for forward-thinking businesses.
From startups to Fortune 500 companies, organizations are investing heavily in data science talent to gain a competitive edge. But what exactly makes data scientists so essential in this digital era? And how can businesses ensure they’re hiring the right experts?
Let’s dive deep into the world of data science, understand its growing importance, and explore how hiring data scientists can radically reshape your business outcomes.
Understanding The Role Of A Data Scientist
A data scientist is not just a statistician or a coder—they are problem solvers, storytellers, and strategists rolled into one. Their core responsibility is to extract actionable insights from massive datasets using a mix of programming, mathematics, machine learning, and business knowledge.
Here’s what a skilled data scientist typically does:
Collects and cleans data from multiple sources.
Analyzes patterns and trends that affect business performance.
Builds predictive models using machine learning algorithms.
Creates data visualizations to communicate complex findings.
Works with decision-makers to implement data-driven strategies.
In essence, they act as a bridge between data and business strategy.
Why Businesses Are Racing To Hire Data Scientists
The sheer volume of data available today is both a blessing and a challenge. With so much information at your fingertips, knowing what to do with it is where the real value lies.
Here are the top reasons why companies are scrambling to hire data scientists:
1. Data-Driven Decision Making
Gut instinct doesn’t cut it anymore. Businesses now rely on data to guide everything from product development to marketing campaigns. Data scientists help decode customer behavior, forecast trends, and identify areas of improvement using real-time analytics.
2. Improved Operational Efficiency
By analyzing internal workflows and system performance, data scientists can identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and cost leaks. This enables organizations to streamline operations and boost productivity.
3. Customer Personalization
Ever wondered how Netflix recommends shows or how Amazon knows what you want to buy next? That’s the magic of data science. Personalization algorithms powered by data scientists enhance customer experience and increase engagement.
4. Fraud Detection & Risk Management
In sectors like banking, insurance, and e-commerce, fraud detection is paramount. Data scientists use advanced algorithms to detect suspicious patterns and flag them before any real damage is done.

Investing in data infrastructure and governance.
Promoting transparency in how data is used.
When everyone understands and respects the power of data, the entire organization becomes more agile and responsive.
Final Thoughts: Data Is The New Currency
We live in a time where data is more valuable than oil. But like crude oil, it must be refined to extract its true worth. That’s the job of a data scientist.
Choosing to hire data scientists today is a step toward building a smarter, faster, and more resilient business. Whether you're a startup looking to uncover customer trends or an enterprise aiming to optimize operations, the insights that data scientists provide can make the difference between surviving and thriving.
So, don’t treat data science as a luxury. It’s a necessity. Invest wisely in talent, and watch your data evolve from a collection of numbers into a compass that guides your every move
