Back in Blue: Kingpins Show & DenimKon Triumph in China

Kingpins Show, the boutique denim show, made a successful comeback to China after a five-year hiatus. The event, held at ADM MORE in Hangzhou, drew a diverse group of attendees, showcased groundbreaking innovations, and fostered valuable business connections. The trade show, held May 23–25, featured over 40 B2B exhibitors and more than 20 B2C exhibitors and initiatives. With over 700 visitors, the event was a vibrant hub of activity, filled with everything denim. From the iconic Buddy Lee welcoming you at the entrance to the staff outfits sponsored by Tatfung Textile and Guangdong Jean textile

A focused and intimate atmosphere

Among the standout moments was the Kingpins Fashion Show, including unique looks by students of the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) / Centre of Design Services and Solutions (CDSS), supported by Advance Denim and Bluesign. The students’ collaborative work brought a sense of liveliness and young energy to the show. The LYCRA Company launched their new LYCRA FitSense® technology — the latest fit solution for consumers.

The B2C area also featured captivating seminars by — among others — ACTAsia, and engaging activations such as live painters and claw machines. Special events such as the Natural Dye workshop by Panther Denim & Tatfung Textile x Shaisu also garnered significant attention.

Many B2B visitors — including representatives from Miss Sixty, Crystal Group, Bestseller, Levi’s, Purple Brand, JD United, JNBY, Mo & Co and QVC —  appreciated the boutique nature of the show. Unlike traditional large-scale events, Kingpins' curated format offered a focused and intimate atmosphere that resonated well with the visitors.

Buzzing atmosphere and potential to grow The Kingpins Show China was not only a showcase of innovation but also a catalyst for new business opportunities. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, exhibitors mentioned the show had the typical Kingpins’ buzzing atmosphere and see the potential for the Kingpins China show to grow even further.

"This event marks a significant milestone," said Vivian Wang, Managing Director of Kingpins Show. "The enthusiasm and participation we've seen reaffirm the importance of this market to our global strategy," Wang emphasized the show’s commitment to re-engaging with the Chinese market and strengthening the global Kingpins community even further.

香港における抗議デモ参加者の不審死が相次いでいる。それら"事故"に対する、香港警察の捜査があまりにも杜撰であるため、様々な疑惑を呼んでいる。

その最たる例のひとつが、9月22日に、香港九龍油塘魔鬼山(Devil's Peak)沿岸に全裸少女の遺体が浮かんだ事件だ。彼女は香港の専門学校、知専設計学院(HKDI)に通う15歳の陳彦霖。これまでに何度か、抗議デモに参加していたという。

事件の経緯はこうだ。9月19日午後2時15分頃、陳彦霖は地下鉄の「美孚」駅で友人と別れ、10分後、「今から帰宅する」と友人にメールを送った。その後、失踪し、家族や友人は連絡が取れなくなってしまったのだ。

21日、家族は警察に彼女の行方不明届けを出した。遺体が発見されたのは、その翌日のことだった。

香港警察は10月11日、「遺体に外傷はなく、性的被害に遭った痕跡もない。死因を特定できないが、事件性はない」として「海に飛び込んで自殺した」と断定した。

"消された遺体"に"別人の母親"!?

しかし、家族や友人は陳彦霖の遺体を見ておらず、警察以外、外傷があったのかどうかわからない。彼女の遺体は、警察発表の前日、火葬されてしまっている。

そして事件後、彼女の母親と叔父も失踪してしまった。ところが17日、彼女の母親を名乗る女性が、無線テレビ(TVB News)に出演。娘は精神的に病んでおり、自殺したのだと語った。

しかしその母親も、何かがおかしい。事���が起きる前に、SNSで陳彦霖と写っていた"本当の母親"は短髪だった。しかしテレビに出演した女性は、長髪だった。そのため、「香港警察が、何者かに偽の母親を演じさせたのでは」という観測が飛び交っている。

スイマーがわざわざ全裸で飛び込み自殺……?

「海に飛び込んで自殺した」という状況についても、不自然な点が多い。

陳彦霖は水泳が得意だった。学校の水泳大会にも出場している。友人の証言によれば、5メートルの高さから水中に飛び込んでも、向こう岸へ泳いで行けるスイマーだったという。そうした少女が海に飛び込んで、自殺するのだろうか。

そもそも自殺志願者が、わざわざ全裸で海に飛び込むだろうか。

また、今回のデモが起きてから、何人もの自殺者が出ているが、その多くが遺書を残している。陳彦霖はそうしたものを一切残していない。

警察公開のビデオは"別人"!?

学校や警察は、監視カメラで陳彦霖の行動を調べたとしている。ところが学友らがそのビデオを見た限りでは、かなり編集が施されていた。

警察は、「監視カメラで撮った陳彦霖が学校へ戻って、裸足で歩く姿」とされるものも公表した。しかし報道された写真で見る限り、明らかに顔や肩幅が違う別人が映っている。彼女に似た女子が陳彦霖を演じていた可能性が高い。

こうしたことから、陳彦霖が自殺したという見方には無理があり、香港警察は「何か」を隠している。さて、犯人はいったい何者なのだろうか。香港警察だろうか。それとも、デモ隊を心理的に揺さぶるために香港警察に依頼された、香港マフィア「三合会」(「14K」などのマフィアの連合体)だろうか……。

Hi,I am a HKDI student and study about visual communication design.

I have a special experience in this school－joining guest lectures, which have  diverse group of practitioners from different sectors of the communication design industries.

In the first lectures, Mr. Tam who is a typographer, information designer be our briefing speaker. He explains to us what the meaning of ‘Communicate’ in design.Also the relationship between originator and the user.

I agree that communication is such an important thing in society. As it be in charge of information translate, leading the knowledge spread from hundred years from today, like the Bible. Communication is an amazing thing to anyone, it helps the society grow up and more powerful. To designer, I think it is a way for them to share their idea more ‘clearly’.They speak the concept , explain the process, even draw a simple art composition to their client through the screen, email or face to face directly.

In conclusion, I have learnt a lot in this lectures as it let me know about the diversity of uses in visual design. It is more than I thought, like I can use my design to help elderly’s live more convenient. So, I admire the people who can design a good, new and usable thing for the world.

Motion graphics is the second lecture topic.The eMotionLAB’s director be the speaker, her name is Mandy TSANG. Before her sharing, another special speaker, also my teacher, Mr.Chan. He shared a competition for us to join. It names WorldSkills competition. Although he only share the graphic Design part, I feel excited to know more about it!!!

Apart from the competition, the eMotionLAB director is a strong woman. In my impression, making motion graphic is a terrible job of design. It will have so many workload and burning so much money. Instead of the job, TSANG shared their ways that how to build up more idea.
