I would love to get into more new farm sim and visual novel games, but I feel like a lot of them not only fail to create their own unique games, but present a very sanitized story and characters.
For the uniqueness aspect - it's not enough to create "stardew valley but 3d and in space" or something. It's still a stardew valley copy. Taking inspiration is one thing, but what new are you bringing to the table if your only source of inspiration is one game? I've already spent hundreds of hours with these exact mechanics on another game, why should I do that on something that is basically just a reskin of that?
And I feel like when it comes to characters and story, a lot of creators are afraid of negative feedback or doing something wrong, so they keep all of their characters very "morally good" and pure and sanitized so there's no real character development. Characters may have a troubled past or struggle with something, but god forbid if it affects them as a character in any negative way.
Idk something about marketability ruining creativity.

I love games that, upon completion, shatters my sense of reality, leaves me full of emotions for days or weeks at end, and changes me as a person, for better or worse

bloodborne x hollow knight crossover
i realized my fav bloodborne character so far was a man protecting a ruined city from a tower over looking said city.
if i had a nickel for every time this happened then i'd have two nickels. which isn't much, but it's weird that it happened twice.

video games are, to me, one of the best mediums to tell a story through. i don't know why, exactly. maybe it's how personal it feels - no matter how good a show or a book or a movie is, the character you follow is still not you. you're not the one moving the narrative along at whatever pace you decide on. you're not the one making choices that can alter everything. you're not the one losing wars or fighting gods or simply watering your garden. but in a video game, it is you. even when you don't get to make your own character and have to play as someone who already exists as their own person, you end up just...feeling like they're an extension of yourself. feeling like you're getting asked 'okay, how would you act in a dying, infected world? how would you act in the wild west? on an alien planet? in a cabin in the woods surrounded by monsters? in a post-apocalyptic world with no hope? in one that does hope? would you be curious and search every corner? would you be scared and hesitant? would you be gleeful? would you not care? would you choose to care? will you be kind, or cruel? will you give up, or fight? will you live out this life and then return to your own unchanged, or affected?'
not to mention, video games are also fun as fuck

Also if I had a nickel for every piece of media I got obsessed with that had a dead baby pit, I would have so many nickels. Why does this keep happening. What is going on

my last daily-ish art fight attacks 34 to 38:
@/horrorboros' hanagoaka, the fusion of emolga and gollet
@/leapsterarts' frida, the friendly nauti (revenge; kirby oc)
@/oversyourhaul's spiny, the timid sweetheart (hollow knight oc)
@artdeitech's amira, the dragoon droid
@/pigeon-pidgin's pompadour, the hunter (revenge; bloodborne oc)
phew. that makes 38 models in a month. last night was a scramble since i received two attacks yesterday and didn't want to leave any challenge unanswered. had to channel my inner @b0tster to attempt the bloodborne revenge.
