A full transcript is below the cut!
Panel one: Hollow and The Shade Lord stand in quiet silence, leaving Hollow to be slightly confused.
Panel two: Suddenly The Shade Lord moves down to make them be on eye level, and they're glaring daggers at them.
Panels three and four: Hollow attempts to run away, but is caught by a giant void tendril. Shade Lord is growling at them with a loud "Rrrahgr."
Panel five: "NO!" Hornet yells, dropping her needle in surprise as she watches them get whisked away.
Panel six: "NO NO NO NO NO!" She continues to scream, trying to run over to them as fast as she possibly can.
Panel seven: She reaches out to attempt to grab their hand, even if her own is smaller than their palm.
Panel eight: Yet all she grabs is air as Hollow's hand disappears out of frame with a blur.
Panel nine: Hornet stares down into the voided elevator shaft, an expression of pure horror on her face. She's bent over, her arm dangling over the edge of the platform.
Panel ten: "HOLLOW KNIGHT!!" She screams into the void, but it does not call back.
So. Hollow Knight, we all know it, everyone loves it.
But I'm just here to say something about how I have come to (recently) see The Knight's (or ghost, if you prefer) and the Pale King's relationship.
Well, more so on The Knight's side anyway.
I have seen people make The Knight absolutely livid when it comes to the Pale King, sometimes sad at what became of him, neutrality or just a simple curiosity.
But here's what I propose to you. What if, The Knight feels none of that?
What if, The Knight just, loves and is enraptured by the Pale King? Not who he is as a being but more so....
The idea of him.
Like, The Knight doesn't hate him, or anything. The Knight just enraptured by his glow; I mean his glow is the first thing The Knight ever saw in the abyss (iirc) and was pulled to climb up and out of the abyss based on his glow.
Like a moth to a flame.
The Knight loves the Pale King. More specifically his glow.
you can have this not change when The Knight ascends into the Shade Lord, or you can. Up to you really.
Just, think about it.
In a fanfic where the Pale King is somehow alive and all that. The Knight won't try to kill him, be angry or anything of that sort.
Instead, the Shade Lord would just. Steal him away? if that makes sense. So caught by his glow that the Shade Lord just wants to take him away and watch him forever.
The Delicate Flower gave off the same glow, but it never had the same effect on The Knight/Shade Lord like the Pale King's glow had. It was a shame that he ended up dying and no longer gave off that sweet, beautiful breath taking glow.
But not, he's back. He's back and that mean his glow is back, and his glow is mine.
The Shade Lord is far, far stronger than him. So, why can't they just, take him? Who would stop them?
The Great Knights? Only 1 is still around and even then, they would be too weak to actually pose an issue.
The White Lady? Chained and is fading away as we speak, what would she be able to do?
Hornet? The Knight has beaten her more than once.
The Hollow Knight? They probably feel the same way and as long as they don't hurt their father, would they really stop them?
The Nightmare King? Well, he won't try to stop them anyways.
The Pale King? Hah.
The only one who could've posed a threat to them is already dead, killed by the Shade Lord. Even if she was alive, why would she help her enemy?
The Pale King is theirs and only theirs. His glow belongs to them and no one else.
(What the fuck, how did it turn into some type of yandere beat type shit, anyways have it I guess Hollow Knight Fandom)
I'm very much aware my idea of non-Ghost Shade Lord is kinda stupid & not at all supported by the lore, but fuck it, I'm writing it down in case I'm going to recycle the idea (...somehow)
started out existing by the godly focus of the original worshippers of the void, partly caused by their hope they'll stop the Radiance from spreading outwards (which they did)
they just kept existing afterwards, sometimes interacting with the worshippers but mostly just vibing
as worshippers died down, so did their power, to where the last worshipper died and they could barely move with intent
then the pale eggs came and Void Entity decided ¨fuck it, I'm basically dead anyway. Might as well recycle myself¨ and put pieces of themselves in the eggs till there was nothing left to give
the embrace the void ending in canon is most of the shades fusing back together into the Void Entity (with help of the godly focus of the Godseekers), and all the death and pain and fury just combusted into them seeking to destroy everything that had ever caused a piece pain
¨but wait! Hollow still exists in that ending¨ welp since this is non-canon bullshit anyway, the reason Ghost and Hollow are still alive in this weirdo version of HK is cause they still were alive when the shades fused together
i have more headcanons, but they're even more non-canon then this post already is
low key very obsessed with sex-adverse Astarion. like he's The Thirst Companion. The fucking Only Fangs joke. All the smut fan content. And then it does a total 180 and he's like "actually my sexual identity was weaponized against me and i was forced to use it to lead hundreds of people to their deaths". It's just such a compelling and interesting twist on his character. I love it.
"Beware the Well of Shade, for the shadows run deep through its endless walls and twisting caverns"
I've been messing around with this rig on and off for awhile, but I finally finished this little side project making a short scene in the style of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
I've never been quite happy with how Starswirl the Bearded looked in the show when he finally appeared but, last year I happened upon a really cool fan design of Starswirl by the user Orin311 that I fell in love with. I decided to make a one view puppet rig this year directly based off their vector art as a surprise, complete with show style lip sync and a full walk cycle. One thing led to another in adding a background, a few illustrator texture brushes, multiple sound effects, re-purposing some old fire animation of mine and suddenly it became a whole completed scene. With such a cool wizard design, the choice for using Gandalf's voice to test the rig with was a no brainier. The background is based on the Well of Shade location in the Season 7 finale of MLP.
I had a lot of fun making this and it was great practice for some future personal animation projects I wanna start next year!

Au where Hollow and Ghost survive and then SILKSONG happens but- hear me out, hear me out-
Hornet was so, so young when the infection destroyed Hallownest. All her abilities in silk are derived from violence and hunting— unlike her weaver brethren, she never delved deep into the arts or healing beyond the basics to survive the destroyed husk of the kingdom.
This has direct consequences when Hollow survives in HK. Despite Hornet’s best attempts, Hollow’s wounds don’t heal quite right.
Hornet can’t forgive herself, never mind the insane reality she managed to save a voided godling from the brink.
(When Pharloom steals her, when she realizes there’s a history of thread, where she can learn how to spin silk maybe to heal-
-at the terrible cost of herself to save people she loves?
Hornet’s never been great about self preservation. All her life, she’s watched other people throw themselves into the abyss.
Now it’s her turn.)
Alas. Her siblings do not agree with that mindset. And they’re going to get their sister back, hell or high water.
