AHHHHH OKAY, GET STRAPPED IN !!

so i wasn’t able to get the like, small talk, i only got the meet & greet bc your girl was BROKE when i bought tickets lmaoo. i went with my sister, who is not a fan at all HAHA, and we kind of made like a little girls trip out of it.

the show itself was so fun (i was a little sad that the boys weren’t on stage for as long as tril and malcom, but i still had so much fun), my sister enjoyed the music a lot and thought the boys were funny and all that, which i was grateful that she had fun as well. so we’re in line to meet them after the show, and then i start wigging out HAHAHA. i’ve never met anyone at a meet & greet before, so i was especially nervous.

when it was my turn next, i REALLY started wigging out, and i basically threw my sister my phone and was like “RECORD ME PLS” and then i had to go.

i turned the corner, and there was chris and i was like “holy fucking shit” and he smiled at me and was like “hi ! how ya doin ?” and held his arms out, and bc i was wigging out i was like “can i like, hug you ?” and he goes “oh absolutely, bring it in”. and when i tell you, he gives great hugs, i’m not exaggerating at all

i turned to nick and almost had a heart attack (as a nick girl, i was this close 🤏🏻 to losing it) he said “hello, how are you ?” and i was like “OH MY GOD I’M GOOD HOW ARE YOU” and he grinned at me and said he was good, and then i got to matt.

i was absolutely so intimidated by matt, and i have no idea why. i only looked at him for a split second, and my stomach dropped before i hugged him. he was grinning so wide, and he hugged me so tight and oh my goodness, i was almost sobbing, but he was so sweet ???? it was crazy ?

i panicked, bc i realized i only had limited time with them, and i had questions, but bc i was anxious, all i got out was “are you guys tired ??” bc it was their like, tenth tour date and matt answered first and goes “oh definitely not, wide awake” and nick goes “eh, not really” and chris went “what ? oh, no. wide awake”

and then we took the picture, and bc i was again, wigging out, i didn’t look back at them as i went back to my sister, i just went “thank you SOOO MUCH” and walked away. i watched the video on the car ride home a million times, and sobbed when i saw that matt smiled down at me, shit was crazy oh my god i love them so much.

as for my favorite, i’d have to say matt (even though i was wigging out and so intimidated by him) bc he was so smiley and he hugged me so tight, and i could tell he could tell i was nervous (i love him so so much).

lemme tell you, videos and pictures don’t do these boys justice, which is CRAZY considering how good they look in pictures and videos. like we know that their eyes are super blue, but in person ??? it’s like they’re almost WHITE with how blue they are. i’m like 4’10, so i was SHOCKED at how tall they were compared to me

all in all, i can say it was one of the best nights of my life. the next time they go on tour (i couldn’t go to versus unfortunately), i’m getting the small talk option bc i would love to chat with each of them individually for longer than like 20 seconds

Unrelated to MASH, but outside of BJ, what is your favorite character that Mike has done? You don't have to consider the movie/show he was in to be good, but like what other character(s) that he's played do you like the most?

Bard, you are such a joy for asking me this. You know me. I love any and all opportunities to ramble on and on about Mike and anything he has ever done outside of MASH.

For those of you who don't know, Mike Farrell is absolutely my favorite "celebrity," and has been since... forever. I've followed his career for years and years and years and I've seen probably 93% of the things he has a credit for. There's a few items that I've never been able to get my hands on, but slowly but surely I will. ANYWAY.

I have a few that I just love him in.

1.) Al Socconis in The Bill Cosby Show. He's not even in this for very long, but he really shines when he does comedy. Plus LOOK AT HIM?

2.) Jack in "Love and the Hot Spell" (Love, American Style). HOLY SHIT IS HE FUNNY IN THIS. Honestly, Mike really shines in comedy. This is just... it's so funny.

3.) Jonah Malcom in "Persona" (Law and Order SVU). He's the sweetest old man in this episode, and ugh. Breaks my heart.

4.) Finally, Lee Miglin in The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story. Admittedly, I have only watched this twice because... it hurts too much. It's not for the faint of heart. I had no idea about this story, and when I heard Mike was in it - I just...latched on. I watched because I love Mike and watched anything he was in. I was not prepared, but he's so good in it. It's one of the only things he's been in (since MASH) that he has made me cry in. I cried at Providence, but that's from laughter and secondhand embarrassment so it doesn't count.

• William Andrew Solace was born in Texas but has tempratlily lived in and been too; New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Nevada, California, Washington, New York, and later on in life Massachusetts and Maine. The only states he vividly remembers when he was young was New Mexico and Nevada, as they spent the longest time there besides Texas.

• Will left to camp when his mother stopped in new york and a monster attack very close to camp happened and the nearest satyr recognized him as a half-blood, dragging him with the other demigods (i headcannon one of them was Drew And that’s how those two met) and was introduced. He found his mother again and was able to stay there after some plot stuff i will flesh…later.

• cat person he is such a cat person he’s a golden retriever boy yes but he’s a cat person i’m sorry i’m right i am i know him he told me

• Will did get bullied when he went to a public school for a short time in new Mexico for being/acting “Gay” and it stuck with him a bit as he was worried what camp half blood would be like. but the camp was very friendly and he adapted fairly quickly after his siblings supported his coming out

• Will is Bi to me, and i feel he figured out fairly easily. Naomi wasn’t as religious as her parents and her traveling gave her a wider world veiw, so she wasn’t exactly homophobic but didn’t really let will know gay people existed. he kinda just got context clues along the way.

• Will came out to naomi when he was 14 and she accepted him, after some suprise and tears. it was confusing for both of them but she wasn’t angry.

• Will goes though whipped cream like a maniac. he puts it on everything. everything. i don’t know where i got this headcannon from but it’s mine now it’s my baby his favorite dessert is literally just reddi whip striaght into his mouth and nico is always absoloutley horrified whenever he finds his boyfriend straight up drinking reddi whip out of the fridge after a late night at the hospital wing.

• WORKAHOLIC!! BIGGEST WORKAHOLIC!!! EVER!!! does NOT take breaks does NOT talk about his own feelings. major case of therapist friend with no therapy

• Nico summons skeletons to help will with studying sometimes, hey, it’s better than a textbook

• Due to all the Shit He’s Seen, will isn’t really freaked out by nico or macabre at all. as to contrast, nico hates medical stuff and finds it kinda freaky

• Will has a very Work for what you get attitude and seeing his mother scrape by and work herself up made will similarly hardworking, independent and self sufficient. But he’s also a stubborn bastard who would rather take and remove a bullet then let someone help him either work wise or financially. It got even worse as he became the head of his cabin so much younger with so many younger kids to take care if

• Living in new mexico for as long as they did Naomi decided it was a good idea to have will learn at least some spanish when he was young and he picked up on it nicely, and decided to continue. he’s fairly fluent now and loves freaking Leo out all the time by talking to him in spanish when nobody else is around and he can’t prove it.

• Did also have a minor crush on percy, but mostly as a “woah look at that guy holy shit” and loved teasing annabeth about it (“If YOU love him so much why do you want us to get her together?” “nooo you guys are my OTP i’m not having that up just because he’s hot” <- COMPLETELY REAL INTERACTION THEY E HAD MHM TRUST ME BRO)

• Wants to pick up on some italian so he can do the same thing he does with leo to nico

• TRANSGENDER AND AUTISTIC IM NOT ELABORATING FUCK YOU ( i do have reasons but this is more fun)

• Favorite vide game is a tie between tetris and Majoras mask

Yeah I’m not sure it would have worked perfectly (it might have undercut the previous moment) but I also feel like Rita’s (final) send off was just… bad.

Before getting on tumblr today I could not have told you that man’s name (or alias). I remember he had a bird in his chest, he and Rita were in love, and that Rouge ruined things for them. I’m sure there were other people watching remembered even less than me! Making him Rita’s ultimate happy ending just wasn’t earned, and makes it seem like the Doom Patrol could never hope to matter as much to her. There were elements of that before when she was sort of stuck between them and the Sisterhood, but when’s the last time Rita even mentioned the Sisterhood? I know losing him was the ultimate reason Rita was so unhappy this season but I feel like this resolution is just an underwhelming bummer?

This is minor, but I also felt like sticking that in the middle of a montage felt out of place. Rita got her send off, now all the other threads are wrapping up, wait no we’re back to Rita, okay montage again. Like it shouldn’t be there, either at all or in that place; put it at the end of the episode, the end of the funeral, or cut it.

If you’re going to have a finale where the found family all decide to go their separate ways, two members of said family die, and there’s an afterlife reunion, I feel like it should probably be between the two dead family members? And Malcom could have had a presence there, secondary to what would have actually been emotional for general audience members: have him and/or his bird there with Rita as she hugs cliff and/or ribs him about stealing her act.

That little reassurance that even though they went their separate ways, they’ll always be family would have made a big difference, at least for me

TWP: my arthurian headcanon - Interlude

Ok, i meant to do part 3 and then the interlude but the interlude goes better near pt.2 so...

Warnings: 1) You better show some respect for my boy Tavvy. 2) He is just a sweet little baby. 3) All Blackthorn Siblings will plot your death if you disrespect him.

I know, i know, he won't be a major character in The Wicked Powers BUT HE IS A MAJOR CHARACTER IN MY HEART SO BE SILENT WHILE I RANT.

Octavian Blackthorn, seventh of the Seven Blackthorn Siblings: my lovely Lancelot of the Lake. Lancelot is commonly known as Guinevere's affair, the bright knight with a pristine record until he fell for his Queen. He had a strong connection with the Holy Grail but ultimately failed in achieving his full glory due to his earthly sins.

In part 1 i used the Black Book of the Dead as an allegory for the Holy Grail, and compared Ash to Galahad because they were the only ones to survive its powers - and become and elevated being after that connection. In LM, Octavian was targeted to be the final sacrifice the prophecy required. However, he is deprived from that (horrible) faith by his family - his own earthly connection, here, storge instead of eros.

But my main argument is this: as a young child, Lancelot is left orphaned and the Lady of the Lake takes him as her pupil and raises him in her own domain. Her influence it's the first to shape his character.

When we first meet the Blackthorns, Octavian and Drusilla are not there. Emma, Julian, Mark, Livvy and Ty are in the same room (Helen has already been introduced and is abroad) when Sebastian invades the Institute: this is the day Andrew Blackthorn dies. Emma runs to find Dru and Tavvy when she realizes what is happening and this is how we are introduced to them: Drusilla is 8 years old and is trying to maintain hold of a heavy sword to protect her baby brother from harm, doing her best to keep her composure for the sake of a scared 2 year old Tavvy, even though at the time she hadn't started her training yet.

Now the Blackthorns are officially war orphans. Octavian and Drusilla are the very last of the Blackthorn family, oftentimes in the company of each other. When Tavvy is taken by Malcom in LM, Dru is the one with him (until she was convinced to leave); when the twins leave to their own adventures, Dru is the one tasked to take care of him; in the majority of the last book Octavian's actions and behaviors are influenced by Drusilla's own actions and behaviors.

At last, i'll leave you with the part that broke my heart (and Dru's):

“No!” Tavvy wailed as Dru pushed him toward Maryse and the red front door of the Graymark house. “No, ’Silla, I want to go with you! NO! ” he shrieked, the word tearing her heart as she let go of him and backed away.”

We have been blurry and rapid switching for the past TWO FUCKING DAYS. I'm one of few that's been able to consistently stay in front while everyone else flows in and out.

Don't get me wrong, I'll take this over frontlocked quiet and seldom seeing/hearing from headmates for weeks or months at a time any day. And frankly, I missed the activity and chatter.

But there's a special sort of déjà vu and whiplash that one only experiences when you have headmates running in and out and having different responses to ONE THING, I'm realizing.

Prime example using our HLVRV fictives since they're the main ones running in and out: Every time we see a tomagotchi our Y2K headmates get excited and start rambling as though they just saw this yesterday. Meanwhile the Neos are like "oh damn I had one of these as a kid it's been AGES since I saw this", the Malcoms are "holy shit a fucking tomagotchi? People still play with those??", MST Benny gets nostalgic and starts missing the one he had as a kid, Polybius wishes he had one...

And the Swaps are confused as to why anyone would want to get that at all, when they could just get an actual pet to take care of.

All of this happened within 10 minutes.

When Dr. Makenzie Lystrup was sworn in as the new director of NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center last week, she didn’t take her oath of office on the Bible or the U.S. Constitution, but rather on a tome revered by space enthusiasts everywhere: Carl Sagan’s Pale Blue Dot.

The book, published in 1994, is named after an iconic image of Earth, snapped by the Voyager I probe, that depicts the planet as a small speck smothered by the emptiness of space. That photo inspired astronomer Carl Sagan to write: “Look again at that dot. That’s here. That’s home. That’s us.” For many, the book serves as a reminder of humanity’s place in the universe and the need to preserve our home planet, which makes it similar to holy scripture for a newly appointed NASA director.

On Thursday, when Lystrup chose to place her left hand on a copy of Sagan’s book while being sworn in by NASA Administrator Bill Nelson, a photographer captured the moment, and NASA Goddard’s social media shared the image.

The constitution does not require that government officials be sworn in using a particular text, just that they “shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution.” Most U.S. politicians and officials end up using the Bible.

But over the years, many officeholders have improvised while taking their oath. In 2018, Mariah Parker was sworn in as a member of the Athens-Clarke County commissioners with her hand placed on a copy of “The Autobiography of Malcom X.” When former U.S. ambassador to Switzerland Suzi LeVine took her oath in 2014, she put a hand on her Kindle. Keith Ellison, the first Muslim to be elected to Congress, took his oath in 2007 using the Quran.

Sagan is a revered figure in the space sciences community for his pioneering contributions to space exploration. “Like many astronomers and space scientists, my passion started with watching Carl Sagan’s ‘Cosmos’ on public television as a child,” Lystrup, who is a planetary scientist like Sagan, said in an emailed statement. “Sagan worked very hard to make science accessible and meaningful to everyone, and ‘Pale Blue Dot’ emphasizes the importance of exploring our universe and understanding our home planet.” 

“Given its personal significance to me and how its message resonates with the work we do at NASA Goddard on behalf of the world, it felt apropos to include it in the ceremony,” she added.

Lystrup will be the first female center director of the Goddard Space Flight Center, which includes a primary campus in Greenbelt, Maryland, as well as Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia, the Katherine Johnson Independent Verification & Validation Facility in West Virginia, the Goddard Institute for Space Studies in New York, the White Sands Complex in New Mexico, and the Columbia Scientific Balloon Facility in Texas.

Goddard is home to the nation’s largest concentration of scientists, engineers and technologists dedicated to Earth and space science, according to NASA.

One of the most heartbreaking exchanges in Watchmen (Josephine)

Josephine: “I don’t wanna understand shit! I just want to go to bed with you one time! I... just wanna be straight. And i wanna be dead.“

Aline: Joey, please. I can’t handle handle this..

Josephine: ..And i wuh- wanna be straight..

Aline: Oh Joey, don’t..

Josephine: ..And, and i wanna be dead...!

(No matter how many breaks I take from the book, every time I get back on and get to this exchange. Hits hard. Holy shit.)

You see a lot of LGBT centric drama’s dealing with tough topics, but rarely ya see “Superhero” books delve into this with that kind of lack of care for giving you the “fuzzies” or some kind of resolve. 

The lack of comfort or regard for your desire to see a happy ending.

And even more rare do Novels get this gritty with LGBT characters without sugarcoated romanticism/idealistic portrayal.

This is raw shit, domestic violence, couples coming apart, horrifically, cause what Josephine did afterwards was just unforgivable.

But because of how they’re written, their issues as a couple was reaching a boiling point for them both, & Josephine snapped.

Humanized characters for the sole fact that they’re flawed, going through a severe fallout. Gritty shit that makes them feel real.

Joey had that air that she was 100% confident in that aspect of herself, but in that moment it all poured out. She wanted “to be” straight, just wow.

Alan Moore either gave zero shits, or he gave more shits than most. Cause nobody sits down and just writes something like this on a whim.

Some of the most humanized lesbian characters, cause they’re not idealized, they’re not politicized, or more importantly: Not Sexualized. It’s grounded, brutal, tragic, both dramatized yet it feels too real. 

And they’re just extras, and still leave that kind of impression. (Though I’m sure not for everyone, but when you read it, you’re going to feel something.)

Malcom & Gloria’s parallel breakup was tragic as well, because his disconnect with her began with Rorschach. 2 different falling outs, moment before- you know what.

I genuinely wanted them all (namely “Joey” & Aline) to be okay, but this ain’t that kind of story where tragedy is fixed with a speech, friendship or a final punch.

I was not ready first time I saw/heard that panel, like a hole was punched in my chest. Makes the ending of the chapter that much more tragic.

The chance to reconcile, to apologize, move on, to heal those emotional wounds- all gone.

Life, absent.

Watchmen is the epitome of: How To “Flawed Characters” for dummies. 

The book is merciless.
