Why are the mythicals only arriving now?

No no, don’t worry, there is a real reason for this.

It’s not just the fact that if every mythical took ages to arrive, the fic would be VERY boring (although that plays a tiny part)

In this au, while Cataliszt is an ancient being, it only met the Dream Crafter quite recently. Before that, it just hopped between monsters’ dreams and the Dreamspace, like we saw in Plucks of the Cradle.

As I alluded to a little in chapter 2, it does have the ability to delve deeper into monsters’ minds if it so chooses. However, since that is mostly a lot of noise and inner monologue (not as interesting as dreams), Cataliszt will only really do that for monsters it has taken an interest in.

Hmm. . . We shall see

Does it rifling through their heads like an old file cabinet constitute a huge invasion of privacy?

Ehhhhhhhhhhhh cats are nosy, what are you gonna do?

But ahh mythical island! When the Dream Crafter created the island for Cataliszt to watch over, the island did not come with a name.

However, Cataliszt had had its eye on the mythicals for a while at that point; these weird monsters that came from seemingly normal breeding pairings, no mishaps at the nursery, that have no duplicates at all!

(Also also in this au, I’m treating rare and epic monsters kind of like genetic rarities. Like being born with 6 fingers, other than that, totally normal)

Once the island was created though, and Cataliszt visited their minds, a mysterious new link seemed to be established. Think of it like the ‘teleport’ button in the game. Where there they have to be level 15, here they need to feel that they don’t belong on their original island, and then go to sleep in order to travel. Now, all of the mythicals have felt that at some point or another (some a lot more than others; I wonder if that has anything to do with the chapter order…), but at that point the link wasn’t established.

So that is my long, ramble-y way of explaining why all of the mythicals are going to appear in a matter of days, instead of weeks/months. Then there is the other fact that time DOES work weirdly on mythical island, which makes everything a bit squiggly.

Writing bts:

For the sake of pacing, I’m still trying to figure out how to introduce everyone without it feeling really repetitive and clunky. I don’t want to introduce everyone all at once, but I also don’t want to do the exact same introductions over and over again, especially as relationships start to develop.

I’ll figure it out, but bear with me as I do 😭. If you guys have any suggestions or feedback, I’d really love to hear it

Hi, I’m Kelsea! I am a stay at home mom, a lifelong horse girl and a dabbler in a legion of interests and activities.

I like crafting and collecting hobbies and hobby paraphernalia. We don’t talk about the state of my craft room.

I am trying to be more sustainable when it comes to the textiles in my home. Focusing a lot on repairing items I can and making items rather than buying new.

99% of my wardrobe is secondhand whether thrifted or given to me by someone. This includes my shoes.

I’m really focusing on finishing my projects and using what I have to make do. I love using found materials and making them useful again.

I am trying to get in touch with my inner green thumb as well so I will be posting some gardening content as well.
