-!- by Dead Poet Society Indie, blues rock, extremely grungy and emotionally charged, music that simultaneously makes me want to belt out the lyrics and tear things apart with my teeth Highlights: .intoodeep., .CoDA.

MILDRED by Grim Salvo Horrorcore, prog rap (??? is that a genre??), weird and scary with some extremely smooth and clever lyrical contortions Highlights: CLOSE TIES, Feasting.On.The.Guts.Of.Angels.

Glitchcraft, Vol 1: Temptation in the Garden at Dark by Glass Battles Electropop, experimental, just really fun and high energy, you're at the club and this album has been flirting with you on the dance floor for the last hour Highlights: Lullaby, All Hearts

favorite games is a little harder to narrow down hmmmmm... I'm gonna list games that I've specifically gone back and replayed many times :v but I'm not including Shadowrun: Hong Kong because it's too obvious (but also everyone play it I am not asking)

Frostpunk: base builder/colony sim/resource management, that sort of thing. Stupidly atmospheric between the really distinctive visual style, great sound design, and showstopping musical score. Satisfyingly challenging in that "the world hates and punishes you but you feel a deep need and responsibility to persist and survive" way... the Dark Souls of base builders

Hacknet: Fairly lightweight hacking simulator that's actually rooted in real UNIX commands, very visually satisfying, with a story that swings between fun self-aware humor and very earnest commentary. This game is like cheese popcorn to me, don't ask me to explain that.

Okami: you are a dog!! And also the sun goddess of Japanese mythology!! You alter reality by drawing things into existence and you can also get a giant fuck-off sword!! You have a dedicated bark button!!!! What more do you WANT

“BACKUP PLAN” is the official lead single from @robberrobber.info’s forthcoming debut LP titled ‘Wild Guess’ (7/26) & it finds the Burlington, VT-based quartet of Nina Cates (vox/guitar/bass), Zack James (drums/percussion/guitar/bass), Will Krulak (guitar) & Carney Hemler (bass) exploring the unease of unaddressed issues across 5 mins of minimally/maximized & krautly jangled PostPunk.

@sam.wrangle is here w/ a brand-new standalone single titled “HOLIDAY LULL” & it finds the Brisbane-based artist embracing his “beautiful fretless fender bass” across 2 ½ mins of cleanly strummed, wonderfully weird & Flying Nun-ish JanglePop.

@spiritual_slum are here w/ “A TERRIBLE PHASE,” a choice cut from their latest LP titled ‘Vertigo’ & it finds the increasingly prolific Melbourne-based artist bringing the darkened bounce across a sub-4 min slice of body_moving & synth_waving ElectroPop.

莉莉周她說 Lily Chou-Chou Lied  soft electro w/ m/f vocal. Very soothing sound.

Pasha  Hong Kong electronic dreampop. Nookie Ho-music programmer, Shadow Choy-vocal.  They tend to take long hiatus between albums, but definitely check them out.

To tell you the truth, it seems almost every TW act has added some electronic elements to their sound, especially the folkies that both lead bands and do solo shows. Lots of live looping and sample tracks.  

Another place to check out is Dark Paradise Records (run by producer 黃少雍 Shao-Yong Huang from matelin) they have 6 or 7 electronic compilations, and you’ll surely find some things you like there! (fb: 派樂黛唱片 & SoundCloud)

Music Monday #159: Jackson Wang - 100 Ways release: March 2020 genre: C-pop*, electropop

So, the * is to note the elephant in the room that is regional subgenres (Jpop, Kpop, and so on). To be honest, I almost didn't put a regional on this, because yeah Jackson's Chinese (Hong Kong native), but the song's in English and we know him because of Kpop group GOT7 (who have deserved better, but that's not for here). But while I could easily picture hearing this on American radio (does anyone even use terrestrial radio anymore? XD), that video? Would not be made here, especially not with that ending. I won't spoil it for you, but it's just not how music videos over here are generally scripted to run, not with a song like "100 Ways". Which I have now listened to fifteen times in a row because I can't stop and you can't make me. It's just such a beautiful hybrid of dance beat and love ballad and the video blends with it perfectly, in my admittedly quite biased opinion.
