To Boldly, or Not To Boldly: Starfleet Zoo Scene

"They're just a bunch of cartoon characters, were dividing onto new teams" She said "I don't know, maybe we'll just call Starfleet to report them?" Brad Boimler said "Nonesense, we don't such thing to call the Starfleet officers. Alright, Starfleet requests to capture those persons!" Mariner said with a speaker. Until the All-Star team saw the Starfleet officers were running each other holding phases together to shoot the All-Star team "Oh, boy. We've been ratted out" Starshadow said while raising their arms "You said my favorite phrase" Skipper said to Starshadow "I know" "Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait! They're mine! Tendi, you okay?" Boimler and the Lower Decks crew running abroad to see that Tendi is okay. "You alright?" Sam Rutherford said to her "I'm fine, thanks to those blue pony human" Tendi said to Starshadow while he smiled until Brad Boimler shows up "What is he like, tiny cadet of the Starfleet?" Starshadow scoffs him "I think he dyed his hair" Scott Pilgrim said to Starshadow "Maybe he dyed his hair" he said while looking at Boimler's hair "Welcome, new visitors" Brad Boimler said while Starfleet officers stand down their phasers to having a talk to them "We gladly thank you for saving this Starfleet zoo from this horrible cute creature as Moopsy herself" Mariner said to Jim "The hoopsy?" Jim Lake asked "The Moopsy, you know… it sucks through the bones while you're dead" Boimler "Oh great, I know you from Derpibooru. I'm officialy disgusted to you, Ensign Boimler" Starshadow said to Boimler "Oh, my. You already know his name, nice call" Tendi said to Starshadow "Haha, you must tell me, who the heck are you?" Boimler is pointing to Starshadow "I'm Starshadow Skystalker, Jim Lake, Miles Morales, Scott Pilgrim. And my penguins, Skipper, Kowalski, Rico and Private" Starshadow said while introduce their names of the All-Star team "So what brings you here on Starfleet at San Francisco?" Mariner said to Miles Morales "We discover an ape who stole it from the… Klingons, using a weather machine to summon hurricane to destroy the city" Miles Morales said while Boimler using a time-out sign while he's remembering The Voyage Home movie "You saying… a weather machine?" Tendi said to Starshadow but they circle around a meeting "Alright, those Starfleet knows to watch the Kelvin Timeline movies. Thinking about a black hole is a hurricane one." Starshadow said to Jim "Yeah but, how do we stop the Klingons?" He said "Excuse me, those Klingons were my collection" Mariner said to Starshadow while she's joining the team "Gah, okay" Starshadow shocked while they're talking "Alright, were going to find that Klingons. But you may choose your group from the Lower Decks crew" Mariner said while Starshadow is confusing like the Sorting Hat ceremony "Could you excuse me for a moment?" Starshadow said nervously. And the All-Star team were having a conversation meeting at the circle "I have two persons, why should I do?" Starshadow said to Jim "Maybe you just choose one person that you like, you look colorful, Starshadow" he said "Maybe, We don't know about those names" Scott Pilgrim said "Boimler, Mariner, Tendi and Rutherford, I know those name either" Starshadow said while he's memorizing their Lower Decks names "Don't worry, I can handle this." Skipper said while he's doing it "Phew… thank you" Starshadow said to Skipper until Skipper shows up for having a words "Starshadow Skystalker will be join as… D'Vana Tendi!" Skipper shouts and Starshadow shocks his pain "WHAT?!" All Starfleet officers were cheering to join Starshadow because he was acutally blue "Alright, alright. You got me, Tendi. Jim, Boimler, Miles, Mariner, and Scotty, Rutherford!" Starshadow smiles nervously while he's raising their hands to the All-Star team for having a cheer of the Lower Decks team "Okay…" Miles Morales said with a nervous moment. And the Lower Decks team were smiling each other.

Meet Hoopsie Snails !

This is the redesign of a character I created in 2018 ; she was supposed to be an one-shot character for an art contest, but I’ve decided to bring her back as I found her cute.

She is a kittysnail, aka a cat-snail hybrid. Her mom Trixie Snails is... a snail, and her father Comet Calico is a cat.

If I remember correctly, the contest I entered on Google+ in 2018 was about using pastel colors. As I was listening to Pixel Galaxy by Snail’s House on repeat, I decided to take inspiration from its music video. I also mixed in some elements of the French comics Lou !, and Hoopsie and Trixie were born !

Their backstory was barebone as they were initially there for a single piece, but there were already a few elements of story inspired by the two medias I’ve cited. Trixie was a single mother, Hoopsie’s dad having left Trixie during her pregnancy, and she was a caffeine lover that struggled with a pretty boring job to sustain both her and Hoopsie. Meanwhile Hoopsie was 6, innocent, and prone to get involved in magical misadventures. As a reference to Pixel Galaxy, the first drawing of them had Hoopsie holding a magical ballon that lifted her through the air.

I used to be very proud of this drawing...

Hoopsie’s redesign shows her a little older than on the old piece ; on the newer one she is about 10 instead of 6. I initially considered keeping her “oversized sweater and nothing else” look, but I eventually decided against it. Not because she is a girl (on the contrary I’m all for Mobians of all genders dressing as little as Sonic), but because I like drawing shorts, I had shorts ideas and shorts made Hoopsie look a little older.

On the topic of clothes : I took inspiration from The New Style Boutique 3 for Hoopsie’s new outfit in general, but you can really see it for the shorts and a bit for the sweater. This game is just so great for clothe references (and just a great game overall). The legwarmers are here for the same reasons as Léa : back when I first created Hoopsie I drew socks like legwarmers (so that’s a little nod to that), I like legwarmers and they’re just a cute touch to an outfit in my opinion. Oh and I unified the palette of the clothes, the magentas clashed too much with the rest.

In general I’ve adjusted Hoopsie’s color palette to have less unnecessary color clashes. I didn’t even color pick the original piece !

I have yet to fully write her an actual story, but she might do a little magic with Purple... Oh I really need to finish Purple’s redesign too !
