Prompt #4: Reticent
He’d never say it to her face.
He’d watched her the whole time she was sat out there. The drink in her hand glinted in the sunlight, that slow amber flow, that kiss of the Warden’s love that crept its way over the mountains to light them in gold before it winked out for the night.
He didn’t see the way the drink and bottle shimmered in it.
Fool’s gold eyes didn’t glint. Instead, as they looked out towards a land new to them, it was as if he was staring straight into the falling sun itself. That fiery gold in her gaze that had slowed from a pyre but not gone out-
Strands of road-dirt blonde fell in the way of her gaze as she looked back at him. What had he even said? Certainly he wasn’t telling her he was staring at her eyes. Was he even paying attention? Too busy etching the sight of her sitting there, the lines in her face without their tension and her hair framing her in a way that was far too harried to be holy, into the parts of his mind that even time hadn’t managed to erode. But he couldn’t help but let that smile fall lazily across his lips.
Couldn’t stop the well-trod road of their words. Their call and response.
Their sign.
Everything was okay.
Yeah.
Dugald dropped down beside her. Slipped into her shadow with a laugh, with a grin. She bumped into him.
He bumped into her.
He couldn’t remember what she said after. But the smile on her face was finally too much for him to ignore. Too there, too present, too blessed by the sunset for him to do anything but lift up a hand and trace her cheek with a rough-worn thumb.
She blew him off, of course, with a slight smack of his hand. Hair fell in front of her face again as she wordlessly gave him a look that all but told him that he was lucky he was cute. Or at least that’s how he took it.
He was, after all, very cute. And knew he could get away with it.
And to hells with it. She wasn’t a painting.
The sunset wasn’t a stain to seal in a carving’s beauty.
This was Sif.
So he pushed the hair out of her face. He tucked it back up into her hair line and combed his fingertips through it to straighten it all back into place. The pads of his fingers freed and knocked away bits of road dust that had clung to her and him both like leftover bits of a trail far away. Ghosts of a million malms, they were. So easy to brush them off when it was just them. Just the sun. Just a moment as it settled into quiet.
She didn’t stop him as he worked his way through her hair like she did his so often. She tilted her head wordlessly as he did. She closed her eyes and took a long draw from her bottle. She held it lazily in her hand. The strength of her grip weak like a dream.
Neither of them said a word.
He didn’t want to.
It was a long moment before he let his touch fall from her hair. For a few after that he didn’t even do much else. Just leaned against her as she leaned against him. She’d turned, at some point, so that her back was now rested against his side. One of her legs lay stretched out on the porch while the other hung down and swayed in the breeze.
He wrapped his arm around her middle and squeezed tight. It was an awkward movement. Mildly uncomfortable. She almost made a noise to tell him as much as he already knew… then a sigh, instead. The clink of an empty bottle being set down and aside. The slow, steady noise of her breath leaving as she leaned back fully as he let go.
Her head was in his lap as the sun went down.
His thumb gently circled her cheeks. He bridged them by tracing the scar across her nose, going to the other and continuing.
Her eyes were half-lidded. Her hair was splayed across his legs.
The gods’ gift to him, he’d said.
Their worst angel, he thought. Like the sunset still glimmered in her hair.
Too holy to be a halo.
He’d never say it to her face.

The Kooci Umwelt
The umwelt (plural umwelten) is the perceptual world of an organism - the slice of reality that they can sense.
The Kooci Umwelt is dominated by distance. Being migratory desert creatures they spend their lives navigating far-flung horizons, and as such their senses are tuned to vastness.
Smell is the Kooci’s most worldview-defining sense. Smell interprets information carried from vast distances on the wind, and seeping up from beneath the sand. Kooci use this sense to detect food and water, and either chase it down or dig it up from underground - among many other things. Kooci can also sense storms, competition, landmarks, and each other. They can identify another Kooci’s pack, sex, age, and many things about their health by scent alone.
Sight and electroreception are also notable senses of the Kooci, and both are inextricably linked. Kooci are far-sighted, and have very limited color vision. They have a wide field of view, but they still have fairly good depth perception thanks to having multiple fovea (focal centers) in each eye. Electroreception is handled by a small sensory organ on the top of the head. The input from this electroreptor is combined with input from the eyes, meaning the two senses are experienced as one by Kooci. They can literally see and navigate by the magnetic field high in the sky. Severe storms and magnetic ore deposits can have a faint glow as they develop their own electromagnetic fields.

KAIJUMORPHA AU OVERVIEW:
what is the au about and what are kaijumorphs?
Kaijumorpha au is an anthological Alternate universe that is primarily based on creature features, folklore, and me brainrotting over creature aus. The main central point of the au are those called kaijumorphs, humans with monstrous or pokemon like traits, that have been as old as when humans have been around in the pokemon universe.
In the Au, kaijumorphs can come in three different forms, these being demihumans, werebeasts, and Therus(working on the name).
Demihumans humans with Pokémon-like traits that are based on the type the person has birth (like dragon types having draconic/dinosaurian features and flying types having feathers or a patagium.)
( for example, my sada design.)
the next are werebeasts, and as their names imply, they are humans who can transform into a more monstrous version of an animal/Pokémon if given certain stimuli (the moon, sun, fight or flight etc). the amount of Sapience someone had in their werebeast form is based how many times the person has been used to the form (like the first few times, the person is nothing more than a feral beast but a few more times they become used to it).
I don’t have a picture for this but think of the werebeasts from the sonic freaks au as an example.
The final category of these kaijumorphs are the mythical Therus. mostly bestial beings considered to be the “legendaries” among both humans and animals (oh yeah, animals exist in the au btw). This group are most than not, artificially created via either human hubris or fusing human and pokemon. Therus are able to transform back into humans, but it takes considerable energy on the Therus and many of them (mostly unnaturally created ones) are unable to know how to turn back into humans.
The main stories
the main stories within the kaijumorpha au include (and tldr)
“child of the golden phoenix” (Johto games and Ethan being ho-oh’s parent and has a shoenn vibe.)
“emeralds under the delta sky” (Pokemon emerald/Oras fusion but Brendan is the biological son of Archie and Maxie)
“Tales of platinum borea” (pokemon platinum with a more ghibli vibe and Cyrus is actually a polar sauropod)
“scars of black and white” (Unova games but I draw HEAVY inspiration from the manga and FMA)
“crossed and splitting paths” (XY but It has a better story and I made Calem a centaur.)
“Eclipse at the edge of the horizon” (how absolutely powerful can I make the Elio/Selene in here? Oh I know! “Gives them kaiju forms that fistfight ultra necrozma)
“Fenrir’s chosen wolves” (Scottish werewolf twins fistfight eternatus and the armor dogs are ancient werewolves.)
“bonds forged in scarlet” (“how much found family can I put into Scatlet?”)
“power always comes at a price” (the Kieran story)
“Hisui’s boreal Titan” (Cyrus gets sent to hisui alongside Lucas and meet akari who is actually a clone created by Arceus)
