More speculation - Ed jumps off a cliff with a rock tied to him? Hornigold (also speculating that this is him here) has psychologically convinced him to do so? He's punishing himself for throwing Lucius overboard and forever maiming Izzy? He needs to get deep in the the water to find something? HELP! Tell me WHY!

I spent a year rewatching Black Sails and tracking all the bits of music that repeated at any point during the show, and my findings are reinforcing that Bear McCreary is a genius and this show should have been called 'parallels that will kill you over and over again'* (tag | chronological)

i know the point of hornigold being made up by edward's mind was to understand that he actually hates himself because of the person he's becoming and all that but i also think that it's heartbreaking to watch the way he tries to play out the customer service scene with himself and hornigold shuts down the idea of being happy.

edward wants so desperately to be ok and to enjoy life. and he won't even allow himself to entertain the thought. he shuts himself down and imagines the worst case scenario.

of course you won't like it. you're terrible with people! you get angry quickly! you wouldn't even know where to start! why would you think you're allowed to be happy trying something else? give up. don't even try.

maybe by not allowing the parts of himself he hates to literally drown him to death, he' ll be able to let go of that self doubt as well.

the fact that hornigold is a manifestation of ed's self-loathing so anything hornigold says is stuff ed's saying to himself

the fact that after hornigold throws the rock off the cliff and ed goes flying off the cliff he chuckles to himself and says "you're welcome old chum" like he's doing ed a favor

the fact that ed is falling to his death and screaming panicking and fighting against it but there's still a part of himself that's standing there watching and laughing about it.

anyway this renew as a crew rewatch is going great im having a blast

when Ed first "kills" Hornigold the scene constantly flashes back to Ed killing his father

I just....... Ed at his lowest point has become Hornigold, become his father, and I think that for Ed that's a fate worse than death

also "just Ben" being a crazy character marooned alone on a desert island in a pirate story is either a fun coincidence or a treasure island homage. Either way I'm here for it

Concept: Hornigold era THE SWEDE

Swede is the same age as Ed, he would've been a young man the same time

What kept this little thing alive? Did he speak only Swedish at first?

I'm actually crying would he have run into Hornigold, Ed, Izzy and Jack at some point?

Or would the most beautiful woman he'd ever seen, young Spanish Jackie, have saved his life once? <3 Like he was being attacked or creeps harrassed him and she came out of nowhere to bring him back to his Swedish ship?
