First Completed FWA Lance
Tumblr media
Singles are below the wall of text
Finally, after lots of relearning and waiting on international shipments, they're done! Got the whole lance ready for the table. I'm not too big on the Free World Alliance, but this paint scheme slaps. I started with drybrush and speed paints to let me focus on the stripes and details. I'm not super happy about that choice, but it still more or less worked out. These guys pushed me pretty hard away from speed paints or even washes. I think I'm going to start glazing and manually edge highlighting from here on out. All that said, I'm still fairly happy. This lance most definitely passes the "from here" test and is completely servicable for a small loaner lance for 5KBV games.
My biggest lessons from this go around were:
If you use speed paints and need to fix something in your base layer it's going to be rough to try and land a 100% match to the surrounding area. Speed paints are faster, but require a different skill set to do well.
Don't thin your paints to much for edge highlighting. They will constantly get ahead of you.
Sometimes telling yourself you won't go back to fix something can help slow you down. I found it helped me decide to chill out and take it easy after the first few mistakes I refused to go back to.
I need to get A LOT better at taking pictures :/

Did a 300pt game of Battletech: Alpha Strike tonight, my Draconis Combine vs my friend's Free Worlds League. The Dragons operating like cavalry threw him off a lot, as he would expect them to go one way but then I'd have them whip around another. At one point two whipped into a corner to catch a Hatchetman trying to flank, and obliterated it with 6/6 successful rolls. Meanwhile, the Panthers gave the Guillotine and Cyclops a small but noteworthy extra punch. Of special note was the Rokurokubi, who not only survived the match with a single hit point left, but headshot a mech two weightclasses above it with a single shot. He has earned much honor for his unit, and will be getting special attention when I paint him.

Listbuilding Infodump
Hello! I'm a Battletech player lucky enough to have an active community at my FLGS but I am also a massive nerd who loves building lists that I may or may not use.
My group's standard format is 5000 BV for Classic and 250 PL for Alpha Strike. Because I'm super open to pickup games either in place of or after a scheduled game I make 2 lists. And now I'm going to infodump about what I'm bringing and why!
Tumblr media
First up is my Classic list because it's smaller and (relatively) simpler. From left to right I am bringing a Warhawk (in Clan Sea Fox colors), a Vindicator (House Marik), a Hunchback (sporting my own Free Worlds Wolves urban scheme), and a Locust (again in FWW livery).
I own 2 Warhawks. Despite this, I've never actually run one because most models are like 3000 points and I don't feel comfortable sinking 60% of my roster's value in a single mech. Thankfully, the model A only costs 2,399 points and features one of my favorite weapons: the LB-X 10 (Mech-sized scattergun).
Due to the sheer cost of the Warhawk, my next choices needed to be more thrifty. I chose the Vindicator because I have a bit of a soft spot for it. It was the first mech I played with when I got the beginner's box and was one of the first mechs I painted. The PPC and LRMs didn't hurt either.
Next was the Hunchback. I love this thing. Just a big ol boi with an AC 20 or as I like to refer to it "the pilot check gun." Every time the 20 hits, there is a chance the target topples over and eats shit. That's too great to pass up.
Finally, there is the Locust. I'm running the 1-V for both sentimental and practical reasons. A) Locusts are dead cheap. B) because they're so cheap no one expects them to do something awesome!
All told I think this list is pretty well-rounded. The Warhawk and Vindicator bring the long-range pain while the Hunchback is a compelling reason to stay back and the Locust is an excellent, annoying linebreaker.
So that's Classic, but what about Alpha Strike I don't hear you mention? Well!
Tumblr media
BEHOLD!
The entire conceit of this list is that I had vehicles and wanted to use them in an actual game. So I am running 1 Vehicle Lance and 2 Mech Lances.
The Vehicle Lance is a Recon formation consisting of 3 machine Gun Heavy APCs and a Rommel Tank. As a Recon Lance, they'll be forward observers. For what you may wonder? Well....
For my Fire Support Lance! This Lance features a Javelin (House Kurita), a Howler (Clan Ghost Bear), a Valkyrie (Highlander Camo), and a Horned Owl (Clan Snow Raven). The Fire Support Lance allows these mechs to fire indirectly at targets designated by the Recon Lance.
Finally, there is the Command Lance! The commander is in the All-Powerful Urbanmech (also Kurita), supported by an Enforcer (house Marik), a Trebuchet (tragically unpainted), and a Hunchback again (because I love them). The command is meant to provide frontline fighters as well as playing shenanigans with initiative and firing.
Overall this list is a bit more of a meme list and bringing a full company is probably ill-advised but I think it could be fun!

🎲 Experience the epic conflicts of The Succession Wars board game, set in the BattleTech universe. Engage in strategic warfare reminiscent of Risk. Conquer, dominate, and seize your path to power! #BattleTech #MechWarrior #Gaming #SciFi #Mechs
Ah, The Succession Wars tabletop board game, a captivating embodiment of the tumultuous era that has shaped the very fabric of our noble houses of the Inner Sphere. As a House noble, I find myself drawn to the intricate tapestry of political intrigue and military strategy that unfolds upon the interstellar battlefield. It allows me to indulge in the art of grand manipulation, deftly navigating…

if marik ishtar used tumblr dot com he would have a normal cute blog that's all virtual pets and indie videogame fanart and his friends but he would also have an anonymous sideblog that's unreadable purple-on-black with a title like "GOD (SELF-DIAGNOSED)" where he just reblogs edgy aesthetic posts of knives while getting into the most insane 64-page-callout-google-doc internet shitfights you can imagine with people in his askbox. i drafted this post two weeks ago but if i had to think it you all have to read it

Fragileshipping is just "me and the bad bitch I pulled with my nervous autistic + socially anxious swag" but it goes both ways. They both think the other is sooooo cool and likeable and they're lucky to even be near them meanwhile everyone else looks at them and is like wow how have either of those two survived this long in the world. You just know that they are that one couple holding onto each other's hands for dear life at loud parties like a pair of scared baby otters adrift at sea.

Got that King Crab done as much as I can without decals. Those are holding me up since I have to clear coat for the decal BEFORE I base it. I don't like House Marik, but I am loving this paint scheme.
Here's to getting this year started on a better foot!

I accidently gave this guy goofy eyes when I forgot that I already put the lens glare dot on the other side. WHOOPS!

Had my first game of Battletech: Alpha Strike tonight, and the sibko cadets of Epsilon Galaxy performed admirably against a reinforced lance of Marik freebirths. Despite being at a weight disadvantage, my mech's better firepower and positioning allowed me to score much needed hits in the early game to wound the Locust and Shadow Hawk and finish them off in short order. Despite blistering firepower, the Fire Falcon didn't accomplish much through the match, having missed most of its shots. The MVPs were definitely the Kit Fox and Cougar, even though the Cougar was eventually finished off by a shot in the back from the dishonorable Phoenix Hawk pilot. All in all, it was a lot of fun, and I look forward to more matches in the future.

Headcanons -- Proposals
Boundshipping -- Bakura does a close recreation of how his father asked his mother to marry him (at least, based on the stories that he remembers): he saves up to buy a house, and tells Yuugi that he'd like to share his home with him for the rest of his life. Needless to say, Yuugi cries, says yes, and insists that they have multiple game rooms to fit their respective collections. In that order. Kleptoshipping -- Bakura kind of just stuck an engagement ring on Yuugi's finger when he was sleeping one night, and when Yuugi questioned the ring, he sneered at him: "What, am I not allowed to stake my claim on what's mine?" Yuugi responds by doing the same thing with Bakura a week or so later. Bakura acts like he doesn't notice or care, but he preens and smiles at it when he thinks nobody's looking. Fragileshipping -- Atem, openly nervous and far more awkward than one would expect, asks Ryou to go to KaibaLand with him to test out the new dueling arena. He gives Ryou a deck that he "wants him to try", though the poor guy nearly fumbles handing it to him at least twice. Ryou thinks something's up, but doesn't say anything...until he realizes the deck Atem gave him was a custom variant on the Destiny board/occult deck that Bakura used at battle city. A wedding-themed variant, specifically. The win condition involved the player to spell out the words: "I WILL". The moment Ryou realized what was going on, he hopped off the platform, ran to Atem, and pulled him into a kiss so long and passionate that they both had to break for air. ...Before accepting with a cheeky "I will," of course. Liberashipping -- Marik had a really elaborate proposal planned. He was going to take Yuugi on a moonlight picnic, wait until the moon was brightest and then propose with all of the debonair charm of a romance novel hero. But then...right when Marik was about to propose... Yuugi went down on one knee. "Marik Ishtar," he said, "Would you do me the honor of letting me be your wings, and take your family name?" Marik wasn't sure whether to laugh at how cheesy that was or cry because Yuugi wanted to become an Ishtar. He did both. Riftshipping -- Polygamy isn't exactly legal, but a little thing like that wouldn't stop TKB from asking his partners to be with him forever. ...At least, that's what he thought, but Ryou and Yuugi beat him to the punch. They set up a private 'wedding' in their shared house for the three of them, complete with dancing, vows, and a "Honeymoon suite" that Ryou spent at least a month making the props for. Then they went on their actual honeymoon: A several-month long trip around the world (paid for by Kaiba as his 'wedding' present to three of his most useful employees AND NOTHING ELSE) where they played games, tasted new foods, and enjoyed their time spent with each other.

I rate Yu-Gi-Oh characters fit 2 because Tumblr said no to more that 10 images Ó╭╮Ò
Tumblr media
8/10
This is what everyone in the Midwest looks like. He is the perfect representation of America. Every time I see him I feel 0.01% more patriotic.
Tumblr media
10/10
This is what peak character design is. He looks not only like a zombie, but like he unironically listens to Ayesha Erotica. Perfection at its finest.
Tumblr media
7/10
His clothes and glasses are great, don't get me wrong, but my friend said his hair made him look like Aloysius O'Hair and I can't unsee it.
Tumblr media
5/10
Where is his dino fit? Where is his inflatable dinosaur costume? This is boring! Love his hair though.
Tumblr media
9/10
I love the 90's punk look. Her deck holder-thing being a garter is smart and looks great. If this were her season 4 outfit though, it'd be a 10
Tumblr media
20/10
Takahashi didn't need to give us a woman this beautiful and stunning, but he did. He did that for all of us. Everything about her is fantastic.
Tumblr media
9/10
He is the definition of badass. The purple compliments his eyes, the double belts are aesthetically pleasing, he is wearing arm wraps. Need I say more?
Tumblr media
4/10
What the fuck happened? Who let him walk out of his house in that? The jewelry is nice and looks good on him, but the shirt. The shirt is so ugly. The shirt does not look good on him, it would look better on literally every other character. His final outfit was a massive improvement, but I will never forget that none of his mindslaves stepped out of bounds to tell him he looked goofy.
Tumblr media
9/10
Everything is better now. Why didn't Marik just wear this? This is so much better! The jewelry is still the best part, but at least my eyes aren't melting at the sight of his shirt. The cape is a little random, but I think it suits him. His also kind of has the same shape as Yami/Yugi's, and that's a nice parallel.

citron/thief being a combination "guy whose preferred fashion items include a tiara" + "guy who considers himself the king of all thieves but has never figured out how to express affection normally" means the first three months of this relationship are a serious test of how much you can overstuff Marik Ishtar's jewelry box before it just stops closing and how long he can pretend not to notice you're silently leaving him shiny things the same way a cat leaves dead birds on the back porch
