I decided to go for a walk to the forest (and a beach under hill) and maked some bug photos (more under the cut):

I've got lucky and gotten photos of 3 hoverfly species new to me. Hornety one is the Volucella zonaria.

Another one from this genus. Volucella pellucens, both of them are males.

Very beautiful Spilomyia diophthalma does a good job of mimicking wasps, their eyes are marvelous.

Little moth with big antennae (Coleophora deauratella). Their wings are actually shine with green when exposed to the light:

Some obscure orthopterian, i update the post if i get info from inat experts or from something else.

Incredible tiger beetle, remind me of a jewel. Elaphrus riparius.

A wee hoverfly (Toxomerus geminatus) resting on a blade of fennel.

@turquoisewaves07 submitted: Can you help me ID this bug I found on a Pak Choi leaf I bought from the shop? I'm in north west england but the Pak Choi box didn't have a country of origin. I left the box in the fridge for a few days and this was on a leaf today.

Suuuure it's a hover fly pupa. Can't confirm species for sure just from this photo, but marmalade hover fly pupae look just like this. Could be that or a related species. If that's the case, they're native to England. As they develop inside the pupa, they become darker and you can start to see their black and yellow stripes, so if this one is still alive, it's not done cooking yet.

This species only has 7 observations worldwide on iNaturalist, so it was an amazing find.
