I find highly ironic that people will harass new fans just because "ew you don't know all the 400 books and 200+ short stories, you're new and ignorant, ew", then will proceed to correct them and

They are wrong or hold incomplete knowledge themselves.

#since tumblr cut off my curious george tag rant i'll continue it here#i mentioned the curious george episode with the little free library ON A DIRT ROAD#the episode ends with george learning they need LOTS of little free libraries that let people swap different kinds of supplies#and they're ALL on a dirt road#among a small friendly community that should be able to ask each other for things#you see in joe and ken's worldview people have neighbors that they know and have friendships with and help out when they need it#in pete's worldview you have a faceless public that needs to be served by generic good works and/or a community institution#and the former makes for much better stories#because it's about people! and relationships!#instead of an impersonal idea#same thing happened in arthur#joe's take on 'how a community should respond to a big storm' is#'band together with your neighbors and help each other out'#pete's take is 'arthur is a good person because this EIGHT YEAR OLD CHILD started a WEBSITE that reunites people with lost pets'#it's impersonal AND wildly unrealistic#not applicable to the real life of any actual child#a story about characters helping each other out is always going to work better#than one that's aim is 'let's show these characters doing things that YOU the generic audience should do'#idea needs to come out of realistic interaction between characters#instead of character becoming generic vessel for idea

put 712 of the worst words ever put in a google doc tonight BUT! it is 712 more words in the google doc than i had yesterday. this fic will be more than 2k, so help me god

Im really tempted to follow the therian tag on youtube just so I can comment on these poor kids's videos something kind and let them know that if they arent hurting anybody they can do whatever they want forever
#do I. fully understand it?#not at all#but the amount of outright hate these poor kids get#so i think they should be making youtube shirts or tiktoks when it looks like theyre like 11 or 12? also no#but they need support to some degree#they need to hear that some people dont understand but dont hate either#because these kids are just having fun and expressing themselves#its honestly pretty relateable in an odd way#like as a neurodivergent kid i did all sorts of “weird” or “cringe” things that i WISH somebody saw and just went#i dont really get what this is#but im glad youre happy!#it would have literally helped me avoid so much pain and depression#the amount of small kids? critters? idk how they like to be reffered to#like i said i dont really understand it#who have pinned my comments or done the youtube love thing?#because they only have like 10 comments but theyre 90% outright hate and bullying?#i think people on the internet should relearn that if you cant say anything nice dont say anything at all#plus i get to reccomend these critters/kids look at maia arson crimew!#i get to let them know that even though im not a therian there are big important powerful people out there like maia who are!#who have a whole group of people who admire and support them!#anyway the tldr of this is i may have adopted a community of weird youtube kids even though i dont really understand their interest#and i feel like the old grandpa you run imto at the library about it if that makes sense

I've been bored of Marvel since the beginning.
All I could say about the first Avengers film was "that was too much movie" and "now I have a headache".
I do not understand the characters. I am not drawn to them.
With the massive budgets there ought to be a lot of world-class sci-fi but somehow there isn't. The settings are so big and so overproduced and so forgettable, visually and thematically.
The character development is "I have reasons to be mad and I am mad and I'm here to fight".
I could go on and on and on but I am stopping here to remember that the entire business proposition of Marvel is "BIG FILM for teenage boys" and then they know by market research that everyone else will probably go see it too.
#my blog#I've been reading long articles by industry analysts#it must feel so validating if you're a person that is deeply moved by marvel stories#to have the billions of dollars invested in things that really speak to you#that the movies you LOVE are seen by nearly everyone#not making fun here - it really must be pretty joyful and that every film is a big global celebration of your fav stuff#this year I've been in a season of acute awareness of what I don't like and mild interest to indifference for everything else#I think it's a systems-level phenomena bc of other things going on for me#plus a general desire to hide away in a library or cabin with a small stack of stories instead of whatever national culture has been lately#seasons of life are so surprising#noticing how I change or grow or diminish#every week is a new adventure

#eca orichird#daily eca#lil' eca#not the only one with shades and opinions (asks)#imagine you are a scrawny 4 year old runaway in a big city. the sidewalks are crowded; the afternoon sun beats down; and you're bustled#along with the movement of pedestrians because if you stop moving you're going to get trampled or caught. the movement of the crowd splits#slightly and in the blur you try to move where there's less foot traffic; hit your knees against a metal ledge; and clamber up the step#there's the sound of beeping and coins; but no one notices as you're pushed inward (you realize you're now inside something; a building?)#every chair is taken; there's a disorienting amount of people standing around you. it's loud and scary. your voice catches in your throat#and if you weren't nonverbal already; you sure are now. you dont know what’s happening. the thing you're in jolts and you'd almost fall ove#if you weren't packed in on all sides; there's a rumbling roar that mixes with the rush in your ears and through the sparse gaps in people#you can see the world passing by through glass; the thing you're in is /moving/ and you don't know where and you dont know how to escape an#you can’t find an exit and there's so many people and no one seems to care about you; you’re surrounded by legs much taller than you.#the metal around you rumbles and jolts and screeches and stops and starts and you’re knocked against strangers and you’re scared.#you are in there for an eternity; the people around you shift but more always take their place. at some point; the crowd thins a little#you scramble to follow a lady who seems to know where to go and you emerge onto a sidewalk in front of a library. you’ve never been here#you dont know how far you are from the orphanage. you dont know how to get back. you are very small and scared and feel like things are#never going to be the same again. the suffocation of the bus clings to you; though it may just be a panic attack. lady enters the library#and you unsteadily follow her inside; you spend the rest of the day hiding on a beanbag chair under the stairs and crying silently#at 4 years old this is the worst experience of your life and it sticks with you forever. not to worry though; there will be more.

everyday i see people online like "oh yeah if revolution is so good why havent you done it yet" "go ahead and solve our problems by revolutioning ill sit here trying to gradually fix them in reality" is like. has the voting done anything either. has the liberal change youve argued for helped either. no. did the voting solve the problems.

fucking tired of you all doing free libby advertising. my local library network has access to three books via libby. not three books I'm interested in. three books total.
#you don't just log on and get the whole catalogue of everything ever made#that's not how any lending app works#you get what your library has contracted for#when your library funding is being repeatedly cut#they don't pay for access to big collections of anything#if your library has a bad physical selection#it probably will have a bad digital selection also#because audiobooks cost the library money#libraries are not magic portals to a world where everything is wonderful#libraries are publicly funded organisations with complex remits#and should be understood in the same light as any other publicly funded service#as schools and social work#they are not ethereal#they are real

you can get video games from your local library. if your specific town library doesn't have any, you can get them through inter-library loan. some libraries even have consoles you can check out. just ask a librarian and you will gain access to expensive video games for FREE.
