Takes a deep breath. Ok so, I debated adding this fic. Not because I don't like it, but because I haven't actual read this in years, so I don't know how it stands up to the test of time.

I don't usually like adding fics that I can't certifiably recommend, but I also feel like if you haven't read this, you haven't Really experienced Undertale reader inserts. It's like. a classic.

I still remember vividly cringing from secondhand embarrassment SO many times while reading BUT I wouldn't trade in that experience for anything- I fucking loved this fic. It was wonderful and terrible and so incredibly fun, and honestly I kinda don't want to reread it so I can keep it in the shiny veneer of nostalgia forever.

Uhhhh, I don't actually have a good segue for this, but this one also has really complicated relationships. There is a happy ending! It's a fucking rollercoaster to get there though.

It's kinda in the same vein as The Party Incident for me, I consider it a classic, and it's also... very 2016/17. Take that how you will. I don't know if I'd recommend this fic, but I definitely think you should read it, if you know what I mean. I'm VERY fond of it despite my extremely conflicted emotions. It's definitely not for everyone though.

Oh, also it has the most fucked up form of skeleton reproduction ever <3 That's okay though, because it results in one of my favourite fankids ever. I'm love my boyyy Impact ;w;!!!!

Anyway I'm a little obsessed with this fic. There's a skeleton reader, who's a necromancer! The skeletons are thought to be gods, but actually they got isekai'd! It's a WILD RIDE and it's surprisingly good??? It feels like one of those webtoons or manga that you look at the cover/summary for and go *??????* at, but then you start reading it and go "OH, THIS IS REALLY FUN ACTUALLY."

There's pretty intense language barriers between the skeletons and the reader for a lot of the fic, but I love that sorta stuff, so that just makes it better for me lol. I adore the dynamics between the characters, they feel so diametrically opposed sometimes it's great.

Oh this one!!! Should probably actually go under misc but it's okay. This fic asks the question of: What if there was a MASSIVE multiversal mashup and some of the residents shared an apartment building where they now live completely normal domestic lives?

Hiya! I'd like to ask how do you do your ms paint art? Do you first make the outlines and then colours, or perhaps vice versa? I really adore your ms paint art and would love to know the process (for practice purposes:))

Depends! My two strategies, featuring Cactus Gunman of Gregory Horror Show fame:

I often just color right on top of my sketches when I'm being silly + designing characters + just trying to figure out what something looks like (and tend to use this to fiddle with details and colors) It's usually quicker for me to end up with something that I'm happy with.

Most of the time when I bother to do separate, cleaner line art, it's because I'm making a graphic for my website. LOL. I think it feels a little more cartoonish-silly, which is usually what I'm going for when I decide to do this. It's also a bit harder to make large changes to whatever I'm drawing, so I'm usually working off of a messier thing I've already made.

(Technically, I no longer use MS Paint and instead use Aseprite due to becoming a Linux user, but nothing has really changed about the way I draw + all of this can be done in MS Paint just fine.)

I know this because, and this is not an exaggeration, the vast majority of my manga revisits are to enjoy his expressions of anger, disdain, and malcontent. i shit you not, several of my bsd meta posts wholly unrelated to fyodor were written because I happened to notice something else while flipping through to imbibe fedya's hissy fits. I don't reread the manga when I do this, just those scenes, unless something else catches my attention.

Photoshop Meme Template Tutorial

I got bit by a bug to throw out a tutorial today because I had the time!

So for anyone who has found a neat little template online and wanted to use it - here's my attempt at explaining. This is assuming very little knowledge in these types of software. I will be using Clip Studio Paint as it's my preferred program, but anything with the ability to edit a .psd should have the same ability. (I will also add the inputs for Photopea as it is free and doesn't require any downloading.)

We'll be using this template by Ikara on Bluesky as our example.

First off, open your file. (Drag the template from Downloads to the "Drop Any File Here" box. Then I would go "Views > Extras" and unclick that option.) The most useful part about .psd files for templates is the Layers. Every program that can edit a .psd should have a section of the screen that displays the layers. For the 2024 Wrapped, the layers are named "December" and "Layer 0". Everything under the "December" layer will be blocked by the non-transparent portions of that layer, and everything above "Layer 0" will be above the white.

So now we want to add some images. Open up your desired screenshot in any program and Copy>Paste (Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V) into your editing program. They should generate a new layer with only the image in it, but if it doesn't you can do Layer>New Layer to make a fresh one.

But, err... that's kinda too big to fit, isn't it? It is. So what we need to do is scale it down and possibly cut some of it out.

First, select your image layer and find a "Transform"  or "Scale" tool. This is Edit>Free Transform (there is also "Transform" but I preferred free transform) in Photopea. There should be some options on the Scale section that are important. "Keep Aspect Ratio" is important to make sure that you don't squash or stretch your image. This is the set of chain links in Photopea. "Free Transform" also allows you to move the image into the right spot.

You can also use the numbers to scale it down from 100% to 50% or what ever your desired scale is (I liked 32-35% for Landscapes and 22-25% for Portraits for this template). Once it's to your liking, you can accept your transformation and move on. You can either delete the extraneous section of your image, or just leave it to be covered up by the other layers.

You will want to repeat this process until you have the template filled, making sure that each image is its own layer. This allows the most freedom when editing images if you want to go back and change anything. You can also use the layers to cover up other portions of different layers by moving it above or below each other.

If you have overlapping sections that can't be resolved with just layers, I would recommend deleting under the template rather than at the edge of the section because you might delete more than you wish. (I do not recommend using the "Crop" tool in Photopea as it effects your entire image rather than just your layer.) Use a Rectangle Select to pick the area you want deleted and hit "Delete" to do so.

So you've gotten all your images where you like them and cropped any overlapping bits, it's time to Export a new .png using File>Export as>PNG. "Export" creates a completely new image where "Save" just saves the image. You can Save the .psd for future use or if you feel like there may be a mistake that you aren't catching (which has definitely happened to me before) and then you have the ability to edit the entire thing again. A .png will not save the Layers, just all the visible stuff.

And that should be it! Feel free to ask any questions, it's entirely possible I didn't communicate something clearly or a tool works differently in the program you're using. I also included the .psd for the version I did so you can see behind the curtain. Happy memeing!

I commented idly to my friend "Sometimes I don't buy a book because it's a translation and I always prefer to read in the original language when possible" and she said in an agreeing-with-me way, "Yeah it would make more sense to read it in English"

and I realized she assumed I meant English when I said "original language"

but I couldn't bring myself to say "Yeah, or French or Dutch or Spanish or Italian or Portuguese or one of the other languages I read..." because like. who says that kind of thing.

I really would love an idea of your process I'm still learning how to digital art and you're such an inspiration! I know you have a lot of info but I wanna get better and you do such good work! Sorry if this is rude to ask, I've followed you for years and just was able to afford a tablet. ^w^ If you don't want to answer you don't have to I love your art!!

YEAS OFC!! congrats on your first tablet, i know how excited i was w mine (tho i had been using mouse for so long that it took a long time to get used to it haha)

honestly there's a lot i could give tips for it really depends on what program you're using ! I still use Paint Tool SAI personally, but there really isnt any one best program guaranteed to make your art better, never get caught in the trap of thinking your program makes or breaks your art cuz it's really not true..!

but general tips for digital art itself:

experiment with layers, this is the very base of anything digital art (you can still use single layer but i gotta stress how understanding layering and layers is a skill that transfers to a LOT of digital anything, even video editing)

relatedly, here's a tutorial i did on layer folders and clipping! it might be a lot at first and i understand! all of my past tutorials are tagged as #tut ~

get to know your program's tools and shortcuts. shortcuts will make you faster at digital art without even needing to get faster at the art itself (assuming you're using something with a keyboard). majority of my speed these days comes from experience w what im drawing but definitely also from shortcuts.

if you see any tutorials you want to try, try them!! don't sit on them and do nothing with them, art is as much muscle memory as it is knowledge. even if you know all the steps you still gotta "train" yourself for it yanno?? it prolly won't do much just sitting there in a reblog tag..!

don't be afraid to colour pick to learn. lots of artists say dont colour pick, but like, as long as you aren't doing it to recreate their character then tbh you can still do that to learn what's going on. sometimes a colour isn't what you think it is..!

trust the process!! if u really aren't feeling a piece that's ok, but if you ever try digital painting you NEED to trust your process. it will always look like garbo mess at first before it's refined, don't get discouraged each time cuz then you won't finish anything!! likewise not everything needs to be shared, no one has to see the drawings you give up on or didn't like, so try not to feel bad about something not turning out either!

try not to get hung up on comparisons between you and other artists. this kind of thinking can really make art not fun anymore 0(

ultimately art is about fun imo, if you are having fun trying something, or making something, or you just want to draw the same OC over and over then do it! i personally have done a study on figures maybe 3 times in my entire life because that kind of thing bores me, i do art because it's fun and feels good, intrinsic motivation is the best imo!
