For the first month this year, no one I know has died. As far as I'm aware. 🎉🥲

I've been doing Spanish on Duolingo for three full years as of this month, and taking classes for two (with some of the same people! so cool : )). It really feels like my life is just Spanish on Wednesdays sometimes, but if my count is correct I should be at the end of B1 by next summer!! :o

Went to the Stitch Festival, bought a load of stuff. I keep buying more and more yarn from Hobbii because I run out of one specific colour or have An Idea. Goal - don't buy any more in April?! I appreciate having a yarn shop 10 minutes from my house and I try to buy stuff from them whenever poss but to be completely honest the yarn selection is ass, they did not even have blue cotton. :[

Work is mostly stable, new Delivery Manager is settling in fast but I'm hanging around for a bit cos someone is going away for a month so a team needs cover. Still not sure what next, I've had chats about agile coaching. Hopefully not something that's a technology in search of an application - you know what I mean. 🙄

I made it to Data Bites (great talk about waste! all the girls love talking about incineration plants and waste tracking!!! 💖 ) and Product for the People where the vibe was honestly so nice, I really enjoyed myself even though I basically had to work throughout tee day. Also I met someone I've not seen for YEARS there cos they just came back in the UK and are doing something interesting again in one of my old depts. \o/

Anyway, I just started TNG and it kicked off strong with one of the divas of all time so my hopes are high. Maybe fewer aliens will be just blonde bombshells with funky hairdos this time (would it kill you to pledge your eternal devotion to a sentient pile of rocks that can revive Genghis Khan at least ONCE McCoy you coward! >:( ).

Honest Thoughts: JSA & Metamorpho

So, with the release of Absolute Flash today to start Wave 2 of DC's Absolute Universe with Wally, John, and Jo being introduced in this wave, I've decided to check out on the other current works that the writers are doing, or for DC at least since I'm still waiting for an opportunity to get Camp's original comic, Assorted Crisis Events, when I have the time and money. The two comics from DC I'm reading right now from these writers are Lemire's current run of JSA and Ewing's run on Metamorpho. I'll try to make it quick since there's some university work for me to do.

JSA #1-5 (Lemire/Orlortegui)- I have a good appreciation for some Golden Age superhero comics, even if they're not entirely perfect with some uhhh... dated content really, but I still enjoy that era of comics, especially with one of the earliest superhero teams in comics with the Justice Society of America, being DC's premiere superhero group being made way before the Justice League. I know some of these members from both the comics and from the DCAU with Justice League Unlimited, like the first Green Lantern Alan Scott, the first Flash Jay Garrett, Hourman, Doctor Midnite, Dr. Fate, Wildcat, Hawkman, the first Black Canary, and the first Sandman (not the Gaiman creation). Already in issue 1, I essentially have no idea on who some of the new characters are since they don't do much of an introduction to them other than showing their personalities. Throughout the issues though, I do get some more bits and pieces on who they are, like how the new Doctor Midnite can literally only see in the dark as she can't see when there's light around if she doesn't have her glasses on. The story itself essentially has the JSA be separated following an attack from the Injustice Society, with the older guard being stuck in the Tower of Fate in Hell, while the younger members are left on earth trying to figure out how to find them. Its basic, but I do like the art from Orlortegui and how they drew the expansive spaces in Hell and the characters have a sort of cartoon-ish feel to them, which is a character design I always love in comics. I do find the Demons Three to be fun, but other than that, the comic is overall ok with me probably dropping the run when the first arc is done. It's not a good first impression on Lemire's work for me as I have heard some great stuff from him, like his Moon Knight run in Marvel, or his original work with Sweet Tooth, but hey, maybe his upcoming work with Absolute Flash might turn my opinion around on his writing.

Metamorpho: The Element Man #1-3 (Ewing/Lieber)- I first known about Metamorpho thanks to, again, Justice League Unlimited, but not much about his history other than that one funny issue in Justice League Europe where an amnesiaced Rex meets Sapphire and Java and the whole thing plays out like a cheesy soap opera, it's great. I do know he was created during the Silver Age and was sort of treated as a half serious/ half comedic character. So, with me hearing about Ewing doing Absolute Green Lantern and seeing that he's doing Metamorpho for what I believe to be his first main DC book he's working on and with Metamorpho appearing in Gunn's upcoming Superman movie, I couldn't pass up and THANK GOD I PICKED IT UP! This run is great while still at three issues right now in how it pays tribute to those Silver Age comics, from the first page being based on those clickbaity comic covers showing ridiculous situations on them, to the wacky lingo used in its writing, to how the stories in each issue are influenced by 60s culture with music and films. The characters are great too, with my favorite just being Java and how bluntly honest he is in just wanting to see Rex die, he's great especially in issue 3. I'll get this out of the way right now, the Stagg's BOTH SUCK, like they are horrible people in how they treat Rex in these stories. There's Simon who just wants to keep Rex as his personal asset to protect him while saying that he's "making a cure" which is total BS and is a straight-up AI supporter in issue 2. And then there's Sapphire, who at first glance seems to be nicer than her father, Simon, and she is... to a degree. I'd argue and say that she's equally as bad as her dad in how she uses Rex for popularity, which is what kickstarts the conflict in the second issue. I'm just glad Rex has moved on from her, but I'm worried that he'll be back together with her. The art is great here with Lieber doing great small details in the background and in how Rex transforms a part of himself to a certain element where you can see the chemical symbol on his body somewhere like Cu for copper, O for oxygen, and Cs for cesium which pleases the science nerd in me. This is a great run that I highly recommend to anyone that wants to know who Metamorpho is with Gunn's Superman movie coming up as it does a great job in introducing people to Rex with issue 1. I love this run, and I can expect the same joy I'm feeling in reading Ewing's next released work with Absolute Green Lantern, and I have no doubt that this statement will age poorly when that first issue is released!

So, there you have it: one ok run with JSA and a great run with Metamorpho, I'm still waiting for my chance with Camp's Assorted Crisis Events #1, but I would still pick up Absolute Martian Manhunter since I loved Camp's Ultimates run for Marvel's new Ultimate Universe. I will do the same write-up post for Wave 2's new origins for the characters like how I did with Wave 1, and I will do a write-up for the first completed arcs of Wave 1 after I've read Absolute Batman #6. University is dragging me a bit, but I still want to make posts about comics and movies and to still be able to do my art.

I've recently gotten a job where I'm meant to be inputting a bunch of items into a spreadsheet - basically making a masterlist of machines, their location, last service date, various notes, and a link to their manuals.

This was previously held in a word document, I've been given basically no stipulations on how it should be held together other than it needs to be easy to navigate for people who have like, no computer knowledge.

Currently I'm using an excel sheet, however this is getting increasingly difficult for me to work with, as I'm not super familiar with excel, it's navigation, and how to automate things.

Due to the nature of this, it feels like a database would be better equip to handle this, but I also do not know how to code a database, and especially not one that would be easy for someone to use who doesn't how to use computers well.

Basically, my question is, are there any, preferably free open source, softwares and/or libraries/frameworks that people know of that are useful for a beginner java coder to make a database that would be flexible (can add more items/colums/categories if needed) for this type of thing?

tl;dr - I'm looking for an alternative to excel for data entry, needs a non-tecchy-friendly user-end. I have beginner java experience, very limited css and html experience, no database experience.

how did he become a shell waste exporter?

Before Covid, he got an offer from his good friend to build a business together, then they tried to collect and process shell waste before exporting it to a client, they got a client from Dubai so the waste was being exported to Dubai at the time.

Is there any export client from another country?

They only exported the waste to Dubai, because at that time they only had one buyer, even though he actually didn't know whether it would be distributed again to other countries or not.

Do you know what those waste will be used for?

unfortunately, they kept it as a secret, but because we were curious we asked and got information that they made a crop fertilizer out of the waste, then it turns out there are rumor says because the shell waste contains high calcium, they made it as a mixture for dairy products like infant formula and sell it to other countries. Some people said it could be used as a mixture for cosmetics and even food supplements, even though the truth is not certain and the client/buyer has highly covered what products they make so we don't really know about that.  The same buyer also ordered the same waste from the Philippines.

what process did you do before shipping/exporting the waste?

first of all, they paid several waste collectors around Jepara to collect the waste that they need and put it all together in one place called a collection point.

because the shells from the collectors are usually still dirty (many remnants of meat still attached), so when it comes to the collection point, they clean it first by pulling it out manually by hand and then wash it in a rotary concrete machine without a mixture of chemicals or soap but clean water, after that, we dried it under the sun until perfectly dry. Pack it and arrange it into a container before ready to be shipped.

I heard that your exporting business has been in a vacuum since the pandemic. what's the reason?

Actually, the order itself is still coming, but the purchase price they offered can't give any profit, because during the pandemic the production cost was getting more expensive but the buyer tried to buy it at a lower price. So they gained hardly any profit, they even lost one container once. Until finally they decided to just vacuum. Even though the buyer is still asking for cooperation even though without considering increasing the purchase price.

last time they had the chance to open an exporting branch in Maros, Makassar, because they knew that there are many shell waste was abundant there, but it didn't work because operational costs increased more than what they expected, after one year they were returned to focused only in Java.

Are there still other types of seafood waste that are abundant in Indonesia?

especially in Jepara, there is a lot of waste from green mussels (Perna viridis) and river mussels (Pilsbryoconcha Exilis), but in Jepara the waste is usually just thrown away to the landfils, he heard that in the East Java area it is still being used as a livestock feed. They also took the shell waste not only in Jepara because there certainly weren't enough of them that met the buyer's specific type and criteria. So they went around the island of Java.

They once tried to find it in Cikarang, but in Cikarang it turned out that the shells were dead, maybe the sea there was polluted, so the shells had dark stains on their skin.

In Central Java, they stopped at Cilacap, but the shells there were already ancient, so buyers didn't really like them. They found the shell in Nusa Kambangan route. only the skin left and the skin is hard and thick. they must be hundreds of years old, still not what buyers want.

he saw a lot of seafood waste being dumped on the side of the road, mostly close to the street food stalls, and the rest from households or restaurants was just being dumped into the landfill and mixed with the other waste.

often emits an unpleasant odor, and makes the scenery dirty. also some places become polluted and invite a lot of unwanted insects. I'm sure it can also be a source of disease. Seafood waste cannot be degradable in the soil, in Gersik, East Java, Shell waste was used to pile up with soil before building houses, but this seems to have resulted in poor soil quality.

Is there a seafood factory that only takes and sells seafood meat, so it produces a lot of waste from the production?

As far as he know, there are some in Jepara but the factory scale is small compared with East Java like Gresik. but it's not a factory, it's just farmers who separate the meat and shells and then send them to Jakarta. Most farmers here got orders from Jakarta and another big city. Right in Makassar, we just found out that the big commodity is a crab called Rajungan. Even there, they separate the meat and send it to Jakarta. He believes crab shells could be utilized for many things as well as shell waste.

Because according to their perception, seafood waste already has no function. Because in the past when he went to the farmers they were shocked and confused because they thought this was unwanted trash without value.

Annie Nardolilli and Louisa Hall, the masterminds behind DC duo Griefcat, are set to release their brilliant album Late Stage Capitalism, April 19.  They’ve been compared to Flight of the Conchords, Tenacious D, Norwegian duo Ylvis, and Garfunkel and Oates by fans but Griefcat brings their own unique voice to the genre. The nine tracks on Late Stage Capitalism range from flat out hilarious to unexpectedly thought provoking, each with a unique sound, beautifully blended harmonies, and brilliant lyrics all with an unpredictable twist.  The musicianship stands out on its own too; traditional instruments abound but you will also hear slide guitar, ukulele, trumpet, trombone, violin, and cello peppered throughout the album. Says the duo, “We are overjoyed to finally share these songs with the world! We’ve been working on this album since 2020, and it has been a labor of love to bring our full vision to fruition.” Late Stage Capitalism explores how unbridled capitalism has invaded every facet of modern life, from workplace politics to interpersonal relationships, and even our most private moments. They came up with the title in early 2020 when they wrote arguably their most well-known song on the album to date, “Revolution (Poop At Work),” a song about how even the smallest acts of defiance can be revolutionary, catapulted the duo to viral infamy and a strong following with over 25 million organic views of their videos, more than 15 million of those views for that song alone.  Even Questlovecommented on the song, saying “LOL I feel seen, I see my version as a political act.”  They’ve also received likes from SZA and actor Alan Tudyk for their posts, among others. Other songs on the album include “I Just Want To Get Inside (Your Bank Account),” an unanticipated, ‘90s-style love song with a hilarious contradiction between two women looking for two different things when it comes to a new relationship.  Are they looking for love or money? It also shines a light on dating culture and how much sensitive personal information we share online every day.  “Crytpobro” is a traditional country tune with all the makings of a hit song.  It’s a melodic, catchy, and current, and a breakup song about losing love, in this case to the cult of Cryptocurrency and the church of Elon Musk.  The opening track, “Benevolent Billionaire,” featuring standout vocalist Jarreau Williams along with many of DC’s brightest musical talent, is loosely based on ‘80s supergroup charity singles like “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” and “We are the World.”  “Love The Sinner” was written while Annie was working as a deputy sheriff and was inspired by two narrow-minded coworkers she didn’t get along with. All these songs would never have existed if it weren’t for the mind melding of the opposites attract duo.  Annie, from Arlington, VA is a Mormon and former sheriff’s deputy while Louisa, from Alexandria, VA (now lives in Reston VA), is a long-time lapsed Catholic and a career tech employee.  That dichotomy in perspectives has been the key to the duo’s success both in songwriting and in their friendship.  They met at a DC-based variety show and were the only musicians in a group of comedians performing that night. They scheduled their first rehearsal, wrote a song about vaccines and egg rolls, and the rest is (recent) history.
