Famous Florida Lottery Winners and Their Stories
The Florida Lottery has been a popular pastime for Floridians since its introduction in 1988. Over the years, many players have won incredible jackpots, and their stories are fascinating. From small town winners to historic record-breakers, the Florida Lottery has made dreams come true. This article will explore some of the most famous Florida lottery winners and their inspiring stories of financial success. From humble beginnings to overnight millionaires, these stories demonstrate how life can change with just one ticket.
-Jack Whittaker: Richest Winner
An article about famous Florida lottery winners would not be complete without mentioning Jack Whittaker. In 2002, this West Virginia entrepreneur became the biggest single lottery winner in U.S. history when he won a Powerball drawing and took home $314 million.
Whittaker was already a successful businessman before his big win, but the magnitude of his prize changed his life entirely. He donated millions to charity, set up trust funds for family members and enjoyed luxury vacations on private jets. But not all was easy for Whittaker; legal troubles and other family issues took their toll over time and tarnished some of his post-win success. Nevertheless, he remains one of the most iconic Florida lottery winners ever with an inspiring story that has been featured in documentaries and books alike.

-Gloria MacKenzie: Biggest Single Ticket Win
Gloria MacKenzie, an 84-year-old woman from Zephyrhills, Florida, is the biggest single lottery ticket winner in U.S. history. In May of 2013, after purchasing a Powerball ticket at Publix Supermarket, MacKenzie won a whopping $590 million jackpot prize. This incredible feat made her the biggest single lottery ticket winner ever in America and she was later listed among Forbes' list of billionaires for that year.
MacKenzie opted to take the lump sum payment for her winnings which was $370 million before taxes were taken out. After splitting it with her son Scott and giving some away to charity, Mackenzie had around $278 million left over - all from one lucky ticket!
-David Kaltschmidt & Maureen Smith: Powerball Surprise
When it comes to lottery winners, few are as well-known as David Kaltschmidt and Maureen Smith. The couple won an astonishing $528.8 million Powerball jackpot in January 2016, making them the fifth largest lottery winners ever. At the time, they were living in Melbourne Beach, Florida and working full time - David as a software engineer at Harris Corp., and Maureen working part-time at her husband's former aerospace company.
The couple kept their winning quiet for a few months before announcing their good fortune publicly in March of that same year. As part of the celebration with the media, they drove up to Tallahassee in a black Jaguar wearing matching tuxedos – truly embracing the moment! They chose to take the lump sum payout option of $327 million after taxes were deducted from their winnings.
-Abraham Shakespeare: Tragic Tale
Abraham Shakespeare of Florida was the winner of a $17 million lottery jackpot in 2006, making him one of the most famous lottery winners in Florida. But his story is now a tragic tale. After his big win, Shakespeare quickly squandered his fortune and became the victim of an unscrupulous woman who eventually drained him of all that remained. He soon disappeared and wasn't seen again until 2009 when his remains were found buried under a concrete slab behind a home owned by Dorice “Dee Dee” Moore. Moore was later convicted for her part in the slaying and sentenced to life in prison without parole.
-Sharon Tirabassi: Spending Spree
Sharon Tirabassi is one of the most famous lottery winners in Florida. In 2004, Sharon won a $10.5 million jackpot from the Canadian Lotto Super 7, and she had no idea just how much her life was about to change. The single mother of two decided to treat herself with some of the winnings, embarking on a spending spree that included buying a new home and several cars for her family.
Despite Sharon's extravagant purchases, she also made sure to be responsible with her money by hiring an accountant and financial advisors to manage it properly. After allocating funds for investments, tax payments and other expenses associated with winning such a large sum, there was still plenty left over for Sharon to enjoy guilt-free shopping trips around the world.
-Conclusion:
Impact of Lotto Wins The Florida lottery has been around since the late 1980s, and has seen its fair share of life-changing winners. From professional athletes to average citizens, many people have experienced the joy of winning millions from a single ticket. But what happens after the initial shock and joy wear off? The answer may surprise you.
While lottery winnings can bring financial freedom, it does come with the risk of losing it all in a very short amount of time if not managed properly. Studies show that about 70% of lottery winners find themselves worse off five years after becoming millionaires due to bad investments or simply overspending on wasteful things that do not add long-term value to their lives. Of course, some winnings are used for philanthropic efforts or investment into businesses that produce lasting value. In those cases, there is potential for positive impact beyond just personal wealth.

the nobles are as middle-class as it gets. not upper, not low, just middle-middle-class. donna originally is very insistent on keeping her lifestyle that way, even after the lotto win & her company going stupid crazy well in their second year. she doesn’t have a mansion, its a comfortable two bed, two bath with an office space; her car is fully paid off but its an economic gas saver from 2008; she shops at the local plaza & still gawks at a blouse costing forty fucking pounds.
then around end of 2015, in the fourth year of her company with overall profits, things start changing. it’s not a conscious decision & no one in her family really calls her out on any of it. she starts getting more involved in humanitarian efforts, starts doing tv spots & documentary voiceovers, starts becoming more of a presence bc she is, undeniably, very good at getting & keeping people’s attention. she gets more things on her plate as her company starts helping out with refugee programs & pushes volunteer work in the company culture. she really isn’t just a middle-class business owner.
she has two personal assistants, two smartphones (for work & personal), she’s got a preferred stylist that she takes with her for public appearances, even gets a personal trainer to keep her in the same fit running shape from traveling with the d.octor. by mid 2016 she’s actually got enough things going on that when one of her assistants recommends getting a chauffeur, she doesn’t hesitate to agree to getting one. her wardrobe ends up shifting from an average price tag of twenty pounds to averaging closer to ninety pounds, with a couple coats & jewels well into the six-to-eight hundred pound mark. it just becomes normal. the social circles she’s in, the people she’s networking with, all of that is really in the upper-classes & she ends up matching it.
it’s thanks to her family & little rose that she doesn’t get completely sucked into it. she doesn’t lose touch with her school friends, still knows how to get loose & unwind from the constant checkmate that is her business life. she gets moments where her new socioeconomic status bursts through, it shows in a saying or how she doesn’t let / accept to be pushed to the back of the conversation or she has no problem with looking down her nose at times, but for the most part, the changes are mostly stuck to her use of money becoming much more willy-nilly.

Tokyo Olympics 2021: Every Video Game Song From the Opening Ceremony
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
While many people assumed the Tokyo Olympics 2021 opening ceremony would feature video games in some way, few suspected that the whole event would be scored by some truly incredible video game music.
Sure, it would have been easy to throw a couple of legendary video game songs into the ceremony’s soundtrack and call it a day, but the event’s organizers went one step further and found some surprising deep-dive tracks from the history of video game music. They’re all great tunes, but what’s more impressive are the ways that they so perfectly fit the energy and spirit of the Olympics.
Here’s a look (and a listen) at every video game song that was featured during the Tokyo Olympics opening ceremony:
Ace Combat – “First Flight”
The Ace Combat soundtracks are filled with gems, but this sweeping song from Ace Combat 5 may just be one of the most epic in the history of this underrated franchise.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
Chrono Trigger – “Frog’s Theme”
This song from legendary composer Yasunori Mitsuda may not jump to your mind when you think of Chrono Trigger, but its beautiful (if slow) start quickly escalates into a sweeping battle epic. It’s more than worthy of the character it’s named after.
Chrono Trigger – “Robo’s Theme”
This brilliant song is both a loving throwback to the chiptune era as well as a fitting theme for the eternally likable Robo.
Dragon Quest – “Introduction: Lotto Theme” (Dragon Quest Overture)
It doesn’t get much better than this timeless and truly impressive composition that somehow instantly reminds you of every JRPG you’ve ever loved the moment that you hear it.
Final Fantasy – “Main Theme”
Some call this the RPG national anthem, which is honestly hard to argue against from both a historical and quality standpoint. It’s certainly a classic in every sense of the word.
Final Fantasy – “Victory Fanfare”
This is one of those video game songs you might not know by name but almost certainly recognize the moment that it starts playing. It’s one of the most iconic and memorable tunes ever composed for a video game.
Gradius (Nemesis) – “01 ACT 1-1”
This is a truly beautiful tune that really isn’t celebrated enough, likely due to the fact that the Gradius series hasn’t exactly been prominently utilized in recent years. It’s a true epic, though.
Kingdom Hearts – “Hero’s Fanfare”
Kingdom Hearts got a lot of love during the opening ceremony, and tracks like this make it pretty clear why. Kingdom Hearts‘ soundtrack combines the best of JRPG compositions with the best of Disney soundtracks.
Kingdom Hearts – “Olympus Coliseum”
Honestly, this could probably be the theme song for every Olympic Games event moving forward, and we doubt anyone would find a reason to complain.
Monster Hunter – “Proof of Hero”
This wonderfully diverse track really highlights so many of the different kinds of songs you’ll find in the Monster Hunter series and how they combine to form something beautiful and cohesive.
Monster Hunter – “Wind of Departure”
This is absolutely one of Monster Hunter‘s best battle themes as well as a nice little throwback to a different era of JRPG combat tunes.
NieR – “Initiator” (Song of the Ancients)
If you’re a video game music fan who has never taken the time to listen to the NieR soundtracks…well, start with this one and just go from there if you want to experience some of the best music in all of gaming.
Phantasy Star Universe – “Guardians”
It’s always great when Phantasy Star gets a little love, especially when we get an excuse to celebrate a song as good as this one.
Saga Series – “Makai Ginyu Poetry-Saga Series Medley 2016”
This particular song doesn’t appear to have been uploaded online in any decent quality, but do yourself a favor and listen to some of the music from the Saga series, starting with the Saga Frontier soundtrack.
Sonic the Hedgehog – “Star Light Zone”
It’s a little strange that this was the Sonic song chosen to represent the franchise at the Olympics, but it’s undeniably a great video game song that ranks comfortably among the franchise’s best.
Soul Caliber – “The Brave New Stage of History”
This is another one of those series that doesn’t always get a lot of love for its soundtracks, but as you can tell, songs like this make a compelling argument that the franchise deserves more attention.
Tales of Series – “Royal Capital-Dignified”
“Royal” is certainly the word to use here, as this song sounds like it could play in any capital city ever lovingly crafted to be the centerpiece of an RPG world.
Tales of Series – “Sley’s Theme – Guru”
This is another one of those songs that appear to have not been properly uploaded to any service I could find, so just sit back and enjoy the incredible Tales of Symphonia soundtrack when you get a chance.
Winning Eleven (Pro Evolution Soccer) – “eFootball walk-on theme”
This particular song also seems to have escaped the internet (so far as I can tell), but this is another series that has some surprisingly memorable music that’s generally worth listening to.

A lot of your advertisements will certainly fail as well. You can cross out the loss naturally, however it's quite easy to shed a great deal of cash.

One More Turn Of The Screw At Medium
Announced with fanfare a few days ago: Medium Seeks Partners to Launch New Publications. This is jaw-dropping considering how many pivots the company has undertaken, and how many 'partners' it has screwed over in the process.
Medium's current strategy seems to be growing into a media giant, like a redo of the old Huffington Post or Forbes, before those pubs chased away all the flakes. But in the meantime, they are attracting all the 'thought leaders' writing listcicles and self-help manifestos, and on top are trying to create their own 'publications' with paid writers.
The site is maddening, oversaturated, and terrible to navigate.
Sadly, many writers I know and admire write there.
I am involved in a new publishing venture (about which more later) and I had considered publishing it there, but I think I will go a different route. I don't believe Williams.
My friend Rafat Ali tweeted about this:
Since this is Medium, unfortunately this will close down in a year too. Sad to see writers being fooled & falling for this again & again & again. This NYT story is surprisingly context-free. https://t.co/9GyraZ5a3d
— Rafat Ali, Media Operator (@rafat) March 19, 2019
The NYTimes article was a Bittman puff piece with no discussion of the many pivots at Medium. And no mention of the departure of Hackernoon from Medium and Medium's efforts to screw them as they were moving.
I've written about Medium numerous times:
June 2015 What’s Going On At Medium?
January 2017 Medium shifts direction, away from ads and towards … what, exactly?
January 2018 Medium Continues Dismantling Publications
February 2018 Ev Williams Hires Siobhan O’Conner from Time, to continue Transition into Megamagazine
For those who want to review the various zigs and zags in Medium's history, I recommend Medium's Mess: The rise and fall of the site that was supposed to save journalism by Katie Fustich. Here's one long excerpt:
In 2014 the company acquired and relaunched the digital magazine Matter as a general-interest publication with the goal of creating a home for “timely, original journalism that combines the reporting and scope of serious publications with the fun and intimacy of the social web.” Originally a subscription-funded, Kickstarter-launched science publication, Matter got a new editor-in-chief, the veteran GQ editor Mark Lotto, and became the mouthpiece of Medium itself, commissioning glossy, high-budget content that served as a tentpole for the platform. It published elaborate features like an account of lawyer Shannon Liss-Riordan’s 2015 lawsuit against Uber, as well as Awl-ish musings on neon signs, and an epically long essay on selfies. (Disclosure: Study Hall publisher Kyle Chayka was a contributor.) The aggressive editorial strategy nabbed Matter a National Magazine Award for Joshua Hammer’s long-form reporting on the Ebola crisis, making it the first digital publication to win the award.
In addition to re-launching Matter, Medium expanded its staff. The site raised $25 million and $57 million in 2014 and 2015, respectively, giving the company a $400 million valuation. Medium also continued to roll out new publications funded by its own capital as well as scattered ad deals, like Re:form, a design blog sponsored early on by BMW.
With a sleek publishing interface and shiny, award-winning content, Medium became an attractive publishing option for media newcomers and websites struggling to make it on their own in the digital platform era. In 2013, comics publisher The Nib launched with Medium under cartoonist Matt Bors, and in 2015, by-and-for women’s news site The Establishment set up shop. Smaller media companies like Pacific Standard, The Awl, and The Ringer also began using Medium’s platform as a content management system, in deals sweetened with guaranteed revenue from Medium’s inchoate ad operations. In 2016, Pacific Standard magazine editor-in-chief Nicholas Jackson gushed, “Moving to Medium was an obvious solution for what we wanted to do.”
But there were persistent tremors of uncertainty. In summer 2014, Medium announced it would be rolling out native ads and sponsored posts, finally answering the question of how the site planned to make money (Williams had previously stated that traditional banner ads would tarnish Medium’s aesthetic). In 2015 Matter began to slow down its publishing, and by 2016 it was crumbling, publishing its final post in November. The title relaunched as an independent media incubator-slash-studio that March, with funding from Williams himself and leadership by Lotto and his wife Hillary Frey, the former executive editor of Fusion (now executive editor at Huffington Post). Then the studio closed abruptly in January 2017 due to management issues, leaving writers with potential collaborative projects—book deals and film aspirations—in the lurch. The studio did, however, produce a trailer and swag for its rebrand logo.
Matter’s sudden shift coincided with the departure of Pacific Standard, The Ringer, and The Awl from the Medium platform. In May 2017, less than a year after joining Medium, Jackson was already explaining that Pacific Standard’s departure from Medium would allow it to increase subscriber growth and develop new features. The Awl departed several months later without much fanfare. Editor Silvia Killingsworth described the publication’s return to WordPress in a post that referred to Medium as “a cool experiment, in my opinion.” She continued, “Personally I missed the ads.” (The Medium detour seemed to help derail The Awl permanently; it shut down in January of this year.)
Medium’s meandering business model meant that in early 2017 it was forced to lay off approximately 50 staffers (one-third of the company at the time) and close offices in New York City and Washington, D.C. Under duress, the company pivoted away from serving as a platform for other media brands and doubled down on its own fraught editorial strategy.

Earlier @fourteenacross wrote this post about our experience of getting to see the dress rehearsal for Rent Live (which I guess turns out to mostly mean that we saw the actual performance of Rent Not-Live) and I wrote this mess of feelings about my 20 year history with Rent the musical as well as the online and IRL community surrounding the musical. I’m depositing it here beneath a cut. (If you’re friends with me on Facebook: it’s the same thing I posted there.)
I've lost count of how many times I've had to awkwardly explain to someone, "I used to be into the musical Rent. No, like….REALLY into it?" Just in case I've never had to explain it to you: I used to be REALLY into the musical Rent. My junior high school chorus sang "Seasons of Love;" I adored it and eventually purchased the 2-disc CD set at Best Buy. I listened to it, oh, let's say 525,600 times. I convinced my mom to take me to see the tour for my 14th birthday. In Green Bay, Wisconsin, a 6-hour drive from our home. I loved it; I spent hours hogging our dialup internet connection to talk about the show with strangers. My friends at school didn't get the obsession. I'm not entirely sure I get the obsession; I was a 14-year-old straight cis white girl from the Midwest hung up on mostly-queer starving artists in New York. (I note this because I know for a lot of Rent fans, part of the excitement was seeing themselves represented in a way that they weren’t often repsented in the media in general/musical theater in specific; I know that wasn’t my situation.) The closest I can come to identifying the source of my obsession might be the line "connection in an isolating age." Loving Rent brought me into a whole community of people who, in some way or another, didn't quite fit in a lot of places. I met new friends waiting overnight in rush ticket lines to see the tour (bless my parents for indulging my quest to sleep outside of every theater in the Midwest; I think my mom in particular understood that something about this was giving me a place to fit in).
But mostly I talked to my Rent friends online. We talked about the musical, our favorite songs and actors and characters, but we also talked about our lives. At first I was one of the younger ones on the boards and mailing lists, and in retrospect I'm pretty sure I was a monster, but I felt so empowered to talk to cool adults who were like, IN COLLEGE and stuff. I learned about their lives and what was possible outside of my rural hometown.
As I got older, I grew apart from Rent. I stopped listening to the cast recording so much, then entirely. I got embarrassed about how obsessed I'd been. I knew the general consensus was that Rent was cheesy and overwrought. Ha ha, yes, of course, Mark and Roger should just get jobs. Benny's just trying to follow his dreams of real estate ownership. Ha, right, what even IS a "season of love"?
Then in 2009, my best friend Megan, who I'd met through Rent--who co-ran a Rent website with me, who waited in Rent lines with me, who had simply the stupidest inside jokes in the world with me….died suddenly. I was devastated, obviously, and for a long time after that, Rent was just ruined for me, simply too emotionally overwhelming on every level. Some department store started using "Seasons of Love" in their commercials and it was like a kick in the face every time I heard even a few seconds of it.
In 2012 I took a trip to New York and decided to go see the Off-Broadway production of Rent. I went by myself and wasn't sure what to expect--I knew the staging was different from what I was familiar with. I honestly don't remember a fucking thing about that production except that I cried for pretty much two hours straight, at varying levels of intensity, from the very first opening note through the finale. It was emotionally overwhelming and really just a reboot to my system.
2016 marked the TWENTY YEAR anniversary of Rent, and with it, a new tour. I saw it in 2017 with another dear friend I'd made through Rent fandom. Again: I remember nothing of this experience except crying. Well--and talking to people in the lobby while waiting for lotto to be drawn; other people with very fond memories of having seen Rent years and years ago, people who remembered the message boards and the drama.
Last year, they announced one of the upcoming live TV musicals would be Rent. "That's wild," I thought. Rent was now mainstream enough to be broadcast on network television, like Grease. But hey--I'd watch it.
At the beginning of this year--2019, 10 years (5,256,000 minutes) since Megan died--I saw a posting for an online raffle to win a trip to see the dress rehearsal for Rent Live. I entered it of course, not thinking anything of it.
And then 2 weeks ago I got an apparently legit email--I'd WON this drawing. It didn't seem possible--so many people must have entered, how on earth would I win? (Like: I'm not saying that the ghost/angel of my Rent-obsessed best friend somehow rigged this online contest for me, but I can't prove that she DIDN'T.)
The rules of the contest didn't allow me to publicly announce it, and I was scared to talk about it anyway because I was not fully convinced that it was real. Still, I asked Kait, one of my other best friends--who I also met because of Rent, twenty years ago, and who remains a hugely integral part of my life to this day--if she'd want to be my guest on this trip, proving it turned out to be real.
It was real. We went. I felt very stressed and uncertain about it all, but on Saturday, January 26th we turned up at Fox Studios and they accepted my paperwork and gave us paper wristbands and made us wait in a long line and eventually? They let us sit down on chairs in a big studio, and some actors performed Rent in that studio. It was an amazing experience; there were 1300 other fans in there with us, all so excited to see this show that must have meant something to us--it wasn't easy to get tickets to be there, everyone there wanted to be there. While we were waiting for the show, all around us we heard people reminiscing about seeing it on Broadway, meeting the cast, hating the movie version.
There were changes made to the script and staging--of course we noticed, of course we all of us had the entire full text of the original show preserved in amber in our brains. For the most part, I didn't mind--most of the changes I thought were good, or at least okay. A few annoyed me but mostly...it was Rent! I cried, of course, the minute the lights went up and Mark began his familiar monologue. Eventually I stopped crying and I laughed and screamed and just enjoyed the songs; enough time had passed that I could experience the show in a new way. It felt like coming home.
(Years on Broadway message boards have made me aware of how unprepared I am to actually discuss theatrical performances; I don't know musical or theatrical terms, I can't tell if things are off-key unless it's very drastic. I am overall a very forgiving audience member; I want to like shows and performers and generally I do, though of course sometimes I have critiques. As I type this it's been a day since Rent "Live"--which turned out to mostly actually be the dress rehearsal that I saw, due to Brennin Hunt's injury--and plenty of people have plenty to say about how low energy it was, how so and so couldn't hit the appropriate notes...and I don't know about any of that. I just know that when I was there, watching it, I felt every moment and fell in love with every character, even though yeah they should totally try to get actual jobs or whatever.)
And then--we'd already known, from the internet, from some of our old Rent friends, that the Original Broadway cast was there that night too. We suspected they'd make an appearance for us; surely they wouldn't be there just to observe. And indeed...after the finale, they bounded out on stage and sang a reprise of "Seasons of Love." If that had happened to me when I was 16, I think I might have literally passed out. I'd listened to them on the cast recording so so many times, but of course they'd all left the show by 1999, when I got into Rent. (I've been lucky enough to see original actors in other projects since then, but not Rent.) Seeing them, hearing them...honestly I felt like I had full-on Beatlemania, I was literally shaking. I couldn't believe I was so lucky to see that and hear that and feel that.
And then the next day, I got home from LA in time to watch 2/3 of the show on TV. I livetweeted it and chatted in a group chat with a bunch of my Rent friends, people from all around the country. And that's what Rent is about, really--it's about the power and importance of community, and I'm so grateful to be a part of this one. #CompulsiveBowlers #FriendshipIsThickerThanBlood #NDBT
Anyway that's why I was in LA last weekend.

Some thoughts that I had that just needed to be written down... Now, I’m not going to say anything groundbreaking here, but writing things out helps me work through my own opinions. So read or don’t read, that’s up to you.
So if there’s one thing that Sabres fans have been through over the past four years, it’s been a perpetual state of ‘we’re going to be better next season.’ Now, that’s honestly just a normal product of the off-season, you kinda forget just how bad things were, changes are or aren’t made, promises are made and not fullfilled.
Just a quick outline of the off-season hype:
After 2014-15 (54 pts): Tank season had just finished, people believed things couldn’t get any worse, Eichel was drafted, and despite what everyone says, people were still looking forward to the season coming.
After 2015-16 (81 pts): the season was actually a pretty decent improvement over Tank Season, Bylsma promises that team will be at 95 pts the next season and in playoff contention, Jack and Sam had exhibited their chem in the last few weeks and people were excited to see them again.
After 2016-17 (78 pts): Big disappointing season,  steps promised not made, Tim Murray and Dan Bylsma are fired, Jason Botterill is hired, the team on paper seems to be a good one in theory.
After 2017-18 (62 pts): ....well.... 17-18 is gunna need its own paragraph here real Quick...
So 17-18 is arguably and also not arguably the worst season in Sabres history, even if the point total is slightly better than Tank Season. Like I said, on paper, the team looked to be a good one. People were excited with the change high up on the food chain, GMTM’s firing really opening people’s eyes to how fucked he kinda was and Jason Botterill pretty much built the Penguins into the perennial organization it is ( unlike Dan Bylsma who inherited his Cup winning team ).
But everyone knows that a team is more than just players thrown together --- there were teams in the NHL that on paper, did not promise to be as successful as the Sabres but were. And all that has to do with team chemistry and having players that wanted to not only play the game but play for each other.
The Sabres, to put it lightly, did not have that.
And that is why people say that 17-18 is the worst season in history, because even in tank year, while the players were BAD, they played with passion and put the best product they could out on the ice and people could see that. It couldn’t have been easy, especially in the end when people would cheer for the opposing team ( still not proud of that at all ). It was obvious this past season that there was a whole lot more not connecting than just passes. Players didn’t want to be there, they weren’t a team let alone a family that winning teams require, and that just drove the depressing circle around and around and around.
Which brings finally bring us to the off-season of the 17-18 Sabres, and why it’s so different and important.
Granted, had the Sabres not won the lottery, I might be writing a much different narrative, though in the end, I don’t think it changes what I say all that much. Besides that’s not what actually happened so who cares?
Before the lottery people were fed up and I don’t exaggerate when I say that had they not won the lotto, viewership would have gone down a metric ton. Which honestly, is pretty long for a team to keep it’s viewership when the product has been subpar at best. It’s the kind of city that Buffalo is ---they want to trust their teams and believe in them (ha Billieve), but for the Sabres, 17-18 was the last season people were going to take. The Sabres had finally entered the “prove it” stage to the fans.
But then, the Sabres win the lottery when no one was expecting them to. That in itself is important. I could talk another thousand words on why Draft 2018 is so much different than Draft 2015, but it boils down to: no one expected to win it and get Dahlin. It was lightheartedly joked about, but honestly, almost everyone was resigned to picking four. No one had this expectation or entitlement to winning the rights to draft Dahlin, and because of that, when the Sabres did win him, everyone was pleasantly surprised.
It completely changed the off-season landscape. With a few bounces of ping pong balls, GMBOT’s offseason work became a BIT easier. Certainly, that off-season hope was quickly reinstated with little to no work at all. Fast forward to the draft and to when Dahlin and the organization is free to speak on Dahlin + Sabres 4ever. And Dahlin certainly blew away everyone’s expectations: a prospect that loves us and excited to be here? I could write another 1000 words on this and its important, but maybe on another post. Point is, Buffalo has always loved players that love the city and will love them back. That’s one of the reasons why Casey is loved so much, and why the love for Dahlin practically skyrocketed.
Dahlin brings his own shot of hope, but that’s not the only thing the 18-19 Sabres have going for them and that is what makes this upcoming season so different to Post-Tank Season.
The thing about GMBOT is that he understands how organizations and perennial playoff teams are built, and unfortunately for him, the GMs before him drastically cut down the time he has to work with. That’s not stopping him though, he’s building this team right ---finally.
While Dahlin is a big piece of this off-season hope and the team going forward, he’s not the only reason fans should be excited for next year. It’s in the fact that Dahlin will not be alone. GMBOT is finally building the core that he wants, and it’s going to be the core that he wants: a youthful promising core age 18-23 that will grow and mature together into its prime. By my count, the Sabres will have: Dahlin, Jack Eichel, Sam Reinhart, Rasmus Ristolainen, Casey Mittelstadt, Linus Ullmark, and Brendan Guhle on the team next year and that doesn’t even touch on some of the periphery players that could make it out of camp. That is a lot of new blood and guess what? New blood, rookies change the culture.
Which brings me to my next point: Culture Change.
It’s been said a ton that the atmosphere in the dressing room is so so important. We saw it especially in Vegas, who was a team on paper should not have performed nearly as well as the team that made it to the Stanley Cup Final. It’s simple, good people who want to play hockey and want to play for each other.
The Sabres dressing room has been called a lot of things that boils down to toxic, and it showed on the ice. Perhaps helped along by Dahlin’s presence in that they want that dressing room to be perfect when he steps into it, this off-season has been dedicated to righting the ship in that regard ( while yes, beginning to patch up the many, many holes in the depth charts ).
Development Camp is a great example of this working. Assistant GM Randy Sexton said that they’re not just looking for good players but good people, and that it’s sometimes hard to find both. Dev Camp is a great example of the culture finally beginning to shift. It was stated that the atmosphere at Dev Camp was so much different from last year, that this was the best one in a long time. Amerks Coach Chris Taylor said that last year on the first day he had to stop about five times to talk to the players because they were nervous and making mistakes do to that.
This year? Taylor said, "I didn't have to stop it this time around. That shows you the leadership, because we always practice what we're going to do drill-wise. The attention to detail that they watched and how much they wanted to learn, that they're ready in the corners, ready to go. Just that right there, that maturity level and the leadership qualities means a lot to me, that they weren't just putting their head down and just going through another meeting."
Sticking with the culture change rule brings us to the (somewhat) controversial Ryan O’Rielly trade.
Skill-wise, there’s absolutely no reason for ROR to be traded. He did what was asked of him and was a large offensive piece to this team. As several others have stated before me, GMBOT can say all he wants that ROR didn’t fit into his young core (he’s 27), but everyone knows this was an improvement by reduction. I think had ROR not made the comments he did at the end of the season about losing his love for the game that he would have stuck around a little longer, but not much (he would have been moved at trade deadline this upcoming season, in my opinion --after Casey had proven he would be comfortable with 2C alone).
ROR was a very good player and a very nice man, but he was a downer in that dressing room and maybe there were other things happening as well that we’ll never quite get the full story on (namely, the Eichel and O’Rielly rift). The Sabres were always going to lose the best player in the trade when dealing with ANY trade involving him, but I am personally happy with the outcome of it. The Sabres have patched up the bottom six, gained a tremendous prospect in Tage Thompson, and the 1st and 2nd around picks next year. That is a tremendous haul and honestly more than anyone expected him to get in the first place.
What the ROR trade does is shake the core of the team ( something that needed to be done and ROR was the most ready choice ) and it fully hands the reigns over to the young core of Jack Eichel, Sam Reinhart and Co. Both Jack and Sam will be off their ELC contracts this upcoming season, they’re no longer rookies, and this has to be their team to take. Ridding the team of ROR helps ease that position along.
GMBOT also made the choice to trade Evander Kane (both a character piece and a ‘cannot afford in the future’ move) and Robin Lehner (much to the delight of fans everywhere). He is building his core and he’s saying to them, here, take over.
The Sabres culture is changing, and the approach is changing as well. It’s a copycat league and dareisay... the Sabres are slightly copying VGK. Sound fake? Just humour me a bit.
A lot of Vegas’ success was built on creating a team that loved each other and building a team out of basically, NHL rejects and giving them something to play for.
With the Sabres, we see that so far they have brought in the Blue’s Carter Hutton and prospect Tage Thompson. You hear the quotes in their post-signing/post-trade media scrums and you hear some interesting things, namely that both players felt extremely wanted by Buffalo. Hutton: "With Buffalo I was their guy and it gave me a lot of confidence.” Thompson: "Buffalo really wanted me and it's nice to be wanted.” Thompson also says some things along the line of feeling pigeonholed in STL and that the Sabres had big top 6 plans for him that he really liked and enjoyed having a team that had confidence in home.
It’s just interesting to me: Buffalo finally making players feel welcomed and giving them reasons to be thankful and to want to play here. Even Sheary (Pens got fucking robbed with that btw), was excited to help an upcoming young core and be on a team on the rise. With Sheary though, there is of course the factor that GMBOT was a big reason he was signed to the Pens in the first place.
To me, all these things just add up to a dedication to Culture Change.
People ( like my father ) criticize that past season, Housley, and GMBOT to no end and think they’re trash because they didn’t turn things around in one season, but the truth is that they never were going to do that. GMTM (and Darcy before him) did a lot of things to the organization that would take forever to heal. GMTM tried his best to make a quick turnaround, and in the process mined away what little foundation the Sabres had to begin with.
Well guess what people, you really shouldn’t be surprised: GMBOT said early on that he was going to take a year to learn the lay of Sabreland and figure out what needed to be done. And boy, what there a ton of shit that he found. This team was lightyears beyond the horrible he expected. And now, he’s finally making those key changes that need to be made. That man said he was going to make changes at the end of the disastrous 17-18 season and by god, he’s making them.
Darcy and Murray burned away years to try to be successful quickly and now and that was never going to work. When was the last time that the Sabres have had a late round gem? It’s been a while: Marcus Foligno was drafted 4th round. Olofsson was drafted 7th and could be a gem, we’ll have to see.
But GMBOT understands building through the draft, through Rochester, and through development. He is trying his best to fix the team now but while also setting the Sabres up for the future, and this is why the post 17-18 offseason hope is so different from off-season hopes from the past four years.
The Sabres have a lot going for them in years to come: the young gun core that will mature together, the prospects that excite people Dev Camp, the new blood in Dahlin and Mittelstadt, a lovable goalie duo that fans have been thirsting for since Miller was traded, a very tangible promise of an offensive defense, the obvious signs of culture change, the promise that this team is a family and it’s a family that loves its home of Buffalo.
Which is why I will end this as I have been saying for months now:
Sabres 2020, watch out NHL.

We all have different preferences, and a method that works for one person may 사설 안전파워볼사이트 not work for another. Do you think it can help you win the Powerball Megamillions jackpot? More than these two variables should be considered before making a decision, but they are the most important.

Ways to Keep 오래된 안전파워볼사이트 Playing Powerball Even After You Win
Let’s define “perpetual motion machine” first. This will help us better understand how this works. A made-up contraption that can run eternally without power is referred to as a “perpetual motion machine.” The implication is that once it gets going, it doesn’t let up. The idea is that the machine can keep moving forward on its internal energy.
We can play for as long as we like in the Powerball lottery after we’ve spent $4, and we don’t have to pay any more money. Surely you can agree that it’s enough of a draw to keep you playing long enough to win the big prize.
How do we go about 엔트리 안전파워볼사이트 making that machine?
Picking the winning Powerball number nets you $4 if you look at all 9 chances to win.
Since there are 292,201,338 chances of winning the Powerball, the odds of winning are 38.32 percent. To keep our machine working, we only have to pick the proper Powerball number every other time we buy a ticket for $2. We’ll play twice for a total of $4. If we get it right in one round, we get our $4 back and are allowed to play again. Once the machine is turned on, it will continue to operate indefinitely.
On the lotto sheet, there are 26 numbers, and we must now figure out how to pick the correct Powerball number from them. Let’s begin with the data.
there are 파워볼사이트 numerous reasons to play the variety powerball
Based on the last two Powerball numbers, which were drawn in January 2016 and January 2017, it seems unlikely that they will be drawn again. Is this something that has ever happened? This doesn’t happen very often, but we just need to get it correctly every other time so that these statistics are no longer significant.
This brings our total amount of numbers available to 24. Because each expert has a unique perspective that they can back up with evidence, this is where things become tricky. This strategy is what I use, and it’s based on the belief that the numbers will eventually balance out.
Since a perpetual motion machine is a hypothetical machine, I must make an educated guess to arrive at the proper answer. Please let me know if you come across any others.
This means we can 메이저 안전파워볼사이트 finally start having fun.
FIRST,
Keep in mind that winning Powerball numbers often fall anywhere between low and high. Numbers from low to high in value could be drawn from the hat. Because these two possibilities rarely occur simultaneously, while choosing your Power Ball numbers, stick with those that reflect these two truths.
TWO MINUTES NOW
The winning Powerball combinations for the week should be recorded in a notebook or other written record. Until it’s put down, you won’t know what you’re missing out on.
The vast majority of people view this game as a waste of time and money. What they do 안전파워볼사이트 추천코드 and think causes them to continue to lose. Every detail must be recorded if you want to win. Keeping track of the statistics doesn’t matter as long as you do it.
THIRD
Investing time and money into a system is essential. If you are in a position to win the Powerball lottery, you have the opportunity to become extremely wealthy. I don’t want you to lose, but I can’t help but tell you the truth if I don’t. Have you given any thought to the likelihood of your victory in this game?
When I say that the chances are stacked against you, believe me when I say that. Let’s say for the sake of argument that the numbers are on your side. Count how long it will take to come up with the correct number sequence on your own. You can never get enough of it. In this circumstance, it may take the remainder of your life. Set up a support system to help you out.

3 Money Habits That Are Keeping You Poor
Tumblr media
Barely putting food on the table and struggling to work all day long just to spend all earning for the necessities can be exhausting. Being in such a situation can make you feel like nothing is working anymore, and it may appear like there’s no way out from living paycheck to paycheck. Don’t worry. You can escape from a dark financial situation.
If I may ask, what would you do to your money if, by chance, you won the lottery worth $1.5 billion? Although this may sound like a dream beyond reality, something like this actually happened back in 2016, when the biggest PowerBall prize in history was won.
However, since the prize was divided into three winners from three different states, they didn’t get to be a billionaire. And even if they did, the hefty taxes and other expenses that come along with the prize won’t let them get away with billion dollars that easily. Despite all the costly expenses, the money that will be left is enough to keep them wealthy for the rest of their lives.
If you placed the lotto prize on a good investment vehicle, its interest could provide you with a more lavish lifestyle that even some CEOs can only dream of. However, if you would look at the data gathered about most people who won the lottery, you will notice that what happened to them is the opposite— they went bankrupt.
Research shows that individuals who made fortunes by winning the lottery are most likely to wind up their money in just one year or less. But why do these instant millionaires have this tendency to lose their money real fast?
While a stroke of luck can make a person a millionaire, bad habits have the power to drag them down powerfully. Millions of dollars can easily distinguish in a single day with a destructive habit. So, it doesn’t usually matter how much money you make or have, but it is about how you manage them.
If you want to achieve financial freedom, then stop sabotaging yourself by keeping habits that are not good for you. Here are the five money habits that will keep you poor forever:
Not giving value to time
Time is among the best resources you could ever have. So, even if this isn’t a direct money habit, this is probably the number one reason people struggle financially. Every single minute you spend on something that doesn’t give you anything in return could have been spent on improving yourself or building a business.
People, especially the young ones, tend to spend time as if they have unlimited time. However, you should know by now that time isn’t unlimited, and no one knows when the gift of time will be taken away from them.
You don’t have all the time in the world, so begin looking at every hour you spend as the time that you will never have again. Either you take advantage of it or stay mediocre the rest of your life.
Letting money rule your life
This sounds a bit weird, but the more you run after money, the more it flees from you. Individuals who prioritize money tend to show off how much money they have, spending a hefty amount of money on things they cannot afford.
Most people who let money rule their life often live from paycheck to paycheck, sinking from debt just to look well-off and successful on the outer appearance. Yet, behind the “successful” facade is the truth that they are in deep trouble financially.
If you do anything for money, you’re most likely to miss valuable opportunities. It becomes relatively hard to see the bigger picture when you are too focused on money. For instance, what may not seem like a profitable business when you look at it short term, might be insanely rewarding in the long run.
Always keep in mind that money isn’t always the end goal. Life isn’t about making as much money as possible since money would not mean a thing if you were a breathless human being lying in the morgue. Treat money as a resource and not a destination.
Jumping from one get-rich-scheme to another
Individuals who get into a get-rich-scheme tend to jump from one undertaking to another with the hopes of winning the jackpot. These types of people are those who are always looking for a shortcut. They want the easy way to wealth and don’t invest a sweat in paving the way to their dream riches.
Although some truly hit the jackpot, the chances of you obtaining it is one in a million, or perhaps, a hundred million. If luck is on your side and you get to be that one person, good for you. Nevertheless, it would help if you always kept in mind that luck is not a strategy, and it will never be.
Stop wasting your time and effort on shortcuts, but instead, use your time wisely by taking courses that will help you gain valuable skills that can earn you big bucks.
