To add to this, it’s a very…Lancastrian Christian view to see “god commanded me to love you” and following through with it as a good thing. I won’t say it’s American fundamentalism as a whole (although continued ticket sales at Sight & Sound, their expansion to Branson, MO, and their recent foray into actual movies instead of filmed stage shows speaks for itself) but it’s definitely very Lancaster County.
can’t remember what particular flavour of Christian fundamentalism the owners of Sight & Sound are, but they did grow up and found their theatre in a heavily Mennonite and Amish area. It’s a very heavy Mennonite and Amish area and those views, twisted with fundamentalism, are obvious in every Sight & Sound production, even their lighthearted “history of Christmas music and celebration” style show. Doing the will of God, in the eyes of the owners and their creative teams, must always be presented positively and as if you do personally like doing it.
In Esther and…I think also in Ruth (or maybe Moses?) there are times when one of the Hebrew characters talks about not liking God’s will but it’s always played for laughs. It’s something I’ve always fundamentally disagreed with and felt uncomfortable seeing in their productions. And thanks to my uncle working there, I’ve seen a lot of the shows. Esther, I think, was the first time I’d seen a character express fear over their situation and that was a massive development over how they previously wrote their protagonists as firm, resolute, and confident in doing God’s will. But even her fear felt inhumanly confident compared to, for example, Thor’s clear moment of doubt, looking at his hammer, in the Avengers after he fell from the Helicarier. Sight & Sound’s biblical heroes, frankly, aren’t human and aren’t relatable, unlike the people they’re meant to represent. And that is an intentional choice by Sight & Sound, fueled by Christian Fundamentalism.
I know in another post you mentioned how the actor made that line sound like hatred, I can tell you with confidence that it was the actor’s choice and he would have gotten a note about not doing it again after the show.
Drew a scene from the Daniel musical but added a more angsty tone. This moment in the musical is meant to be seen as: 'Aww, look! God is making Daniel love the king despite everything he’s done to him, and he even cares about the king! Isn’t this wholesome?'
But I’m sitting here thinking: 'THAT'S NOT CUTE AT ALL!'
Also, this is not King Darius, it’s the first king that Daniel served, King Nebuchadnezzar (they kinda look the same at the moment).
#side question#since I haven’t seen Daniel#did they pull the cross out and do a whole bloodline of Jesus bit at the end?#tw religion#also one time I interviewed to be on the grounds crew#they asked me about my personal relationship with Jesus Christ#I was so shocked I stumbled through a half-assed answer and am pretty sure it’s why I didn’t get the job#the head groundskeeper didn’t care and didn’t ask#HR called me up later and said their interview guy ‘forgot to ask’ and asked me themselves

It Had To Be You
Part 3
Dr Michael Robinavitch x f! resident (turned attending) OC
This is a Part 3 to my ongoing series
Heres the last part!
TW: yes there’s gonna be smut! P in v, oral, implied and said, kissing, medical setting, fighting, cheating, pregnancy, age gap relationship, dom sub relationship.
Robby knew where you lived because he’d started insisting on walking you home a few months ago. After your usual beers in the park with the crew, it’d end up to be you, Samira, Robby, and Jack. You’d be rehashing a pivotal case that day or laughing about how you or Samira, “the more inexperienced ones”, would intubate or draw a central line. Whatever, it was all jokes. And then it became less joking and more flirting, as you noticed Jack and Samira sitting subtly closer and closer to each other. It’d usually end in silence and either you or Samira would speak up about needing to finally head home. If it was you Robby would usually mutter something about having a question for you and sliding up to be shoulder to shoulder with you. He’d keep that pace, keeping quiet conversation about the weather, a brick building you were walking by, how he’d had an apartment on this street. He talked about whatever he could to keep your attention and not cause either of you to leave the little bubble you’d surround yourself with. Eventually you ended up at the foot of your place. You never invited him up. You couldn’t. He’s way too professional. He valued his job and your job and the working relationship too much to mess anything up. It’s not like it was explicitly against HR rules, but you were his subordinate. No matter how much it hurt to be in love with him and not be able to do anything about it. But you did always hoped he just wouldn’t stop and would follow you up one time.
And now here you were, all this time later, walking down your front steps greeted by your attending.
Man, he looks good. Really, really good. Like so tantalizingly good youre stopped in your tracks, and admire him. A charcoal Henley under an expensive grey linen jacket and black jeans. He looked mouthwatering, especially more when he smiled at you, eyes wide.
“You look amazing.” He beams.
“Hey, you don’t look to bad yourself, doctor.” You quip.
You follow down and come to stand in front of him, in a bodycon black cotton maxi dress, black strappy heels and silver earrings. He reaches out for you and stops. He tilts his head back and closes his eyes, taking a beat. He turns around and takes a step away rubbing his hands up and down his face, muttering groans of dissatisfaction.
You’re confused, very confused. “Hey, uh, Robby, what’s wrong?”
He turns back to you and says “Y/N, I just…I cannot control myself around you.” He speaks. You’re hiding your stun so he doesn’t stop going.
“This isn’t how I wanted to do this, but yeah, we’re gonna do it. I know you applied and interviewed with me at The Pitt and you’ve been waiting to hear back. Well, tonight, tonight, at dinner, at one of the fanciest restaurants in the city, I was going to offer you the attending position.”
Now you can’t hide your shock, your eyes go wide and your mouth drops open.
“I know, I know. And I know I’m not supposed to influence you and you haven’t even graduated yet, but I need to know right now if you’re taking it. Before I can go on. It’s been killing me. I, uh, don’t want to lose one of my best people ya know.” He says.
One of his best people? That’s what you were? Why is he freaking out?
You try to step closer to him. “Um, Robby, of course I’m taking the position. I don’t want to leave here. Why would you even think I’d want to leave the Pitt?”
He doesn’t answer. Where’s he going with this? Was that what he wanted to tell you at dinner, really? That’s really nice of your attending to take his coworkers out to celebrate a job offer. So maybe this wasn’t a date. You instantly feel defeated.
His head pops up. It’s like you’ve unlocked something in him. Like he can read your mind at the current moment. The already started unraveling is speeding up. He finally reaches out to you and grabs your face. You expect him to stop, because that’s always what’s happened. And he does, he looks down at you, really searching for something.
“Am I crazy?” He asks.
You place your hands over his. “What? Why would you be-?”
He stops you and says, “What’s between us, what’s always been between us…I’m not imagining it. Me and you?”
You freeze. Were you awake? Was this really happening?
He’s waiting for an answer.
“What’s always been between us?” You ask. You need to hear him say it. You can’t your mouth betraying you.
You keep eye contact as he says, “Nothing. A good working relationship. I’m just having a moment, tired. Long shifts, ya know. Come on, let’s go to dinner. I’m starved.”
What? What? No, no, no, no, no, no. This is very bad. You realized you’ve answered wrong. He put the ball in your court and you threw it in the complete opposite direction. This is the most confusing man you’ve ever met in your life. What was happening? You could’ve sworn you knew exactly what he was going to say and again, you were wrong. Dead wrong.
He sticks his heads in his pockets, immediately making you miss the warmth of his touch. He starts heading down the sidewalk. So you follow him.
—
Your sat across the table from Robby, barely touched plates in front of you. It’s been a very awkward dinner. You can’t understand what went wrong. Maybe nothing had gone wrong and you were imagining everything. Maybe Robby has just needed a friend all this time.
“Do you work tomorrow?” You ask, making polite conversation. As if you don’t know this man better than he knows himself. He just shakes his head.
By the time the checks come you’ve finished 2 bottles of wine between the 2 of you. Obviously you weren’t the only one who needed your nerves calmed.
You don’t intend for him to walk you home, but you don’t mind his presence, even if you’re both walking in silence. Man this night didn’t end up like you expected.
—
2 Weeks Later
You’ve finally graduated residency. You feel such a wave of relief it’s insane. You’re also about to embark on a week off before you started as an attending at PTMC.
You’re still glad you’ve taken the job, even if you haven’t had a proper conversation with Robby since your not date. Man, you missed him. You missed being able to debrief after an especially long shift. You missed feeling the cool air on your skin as you sat next to each other sharing whatever candy you’d had in your pockets. You just missed his presence. Not as your coworker, not as your attending, but as your friend, your person.
You zone out of your thinking and come back to the bar you’re sitting at with Samara.
“To being attendings!” You clink 2 shot glasses together.
You throw the burning drinks back and suck a lime.
“These are for you too. From the guys down the bar.” The bartender places 2 sprites in front of you and you look at each other, then down the bar.
You see a familiar grey haired man with a friendly smile, Jack Abbot. He raises his glass in a sort of salute. You feel Samara light up. You notice movement next to Jack’s shoulder. There he is. An equally familiar for different ways brunette. Michael Robinavitch.
“Did they just send us soda? Really? Lame!” Samara jokingly yells. “Im going to personally complain. I’ll be back.” And before you can reply she’s picking up 2 more shots and heading over to the 2 attendings. You’d go see Robby, but you’d rather not sour your mood and you’re sure he’d rather be left alone.
You see Samara approach the guys and they offer a friendly smile. Samara leans into Robby and simultaneously makes him smile, causing him to look at you. Robby gets out of his seat, tips his drink to the fast approaching couple and leaves. He head towards you.
Almost in an instant he’s occupying the seat your friendly was just in.
“Hey.” He offers with a smile.
The presence of him next to you makes you want to melt. You just want your best friend back. Even if you’re not his. But your wants could be put aside. You were a doctor, you knew to put the greater good before a single person.
“Hey.” You offer back with a turn.
The silence that follows is awkward. It’s loud. This sucks. You’re annoyed, just what you didn’t want to happen. You’re about to open your mouth and say a lie about how you need to leave, but when Robby sees your awkwardly tense up he goes to say something.
“Listen, I’m no good at doing this. I think we both know that. Can we get out of here and talk?” He inquires.
He’s offering a metaphorical olive branch. You nod.
He’s called the bartender to settle both of your tabs, after sending another round of shots to Jack and Samara, stating “they’ll need it.”
You’re on the warm streets of Pittsburgh halfway to your apartment when you break the ice.
“What’s been going on with you? With us?”
He ponders this. “I know, like I said. I messed that up. I wanted to take you out and offer you the job, but I didn’t do it right. You deserve more.” He’s talking about the job but you feel he’s using job for a different term.
“Well, I accepted the job. I’m an attending now. We’re both attendings. We’re on the same level now.” You offer back. Which isn’t exactly true, but semantics, semantics. Maybe the alcohol you’d had in the hours before had made you calmer and looser than you thought. You’re pulling at what you feel he wants to say, trying to slowly reel it out of him so you can celebrate your prized catch. He looks at you.
“We are not on the same level here.” He offers.
You’re in front of your apartment now. “Michael, what the hell are you talking about? Can you just spit out what you’ve been wanting to tell me so we can go back to being friends?” You don’t mean to say it with such an attitude but you’re over it. You either stay friends and be fellow attendings, and maybe your relationship will stay the same. And maybe he doesn’t actually love you like you love him. Whatever. You’d take it. As long as he was in your life.
He’s silent for a long time. It’s like something is bubbling at the surface and he’s terrified of letting it erupt.
You decide to help. “Okay, whatever. I’m not your subordinate anymore and you can’t fire me so I’m just going to say it. I think I know what you wanted to tell me 2 weeks ago, or at least what I was hoping you’d tell me. And you’re scared as hell to say something. Which I get, I totally do. But it’s been way too long to keep playing games Michael. You owe me more than that. You owe it to yourself, to us..” You leave the last part out there.
Yup, the alcohol had made you very confident.
Something’s burst in him. Using us, as if there is an us.
“Us? What about us?” He asks.
Do I have to say it?
“Fine, I’ll say it. I’m in love with you. I have been for a really long time. And I know that might be stupid and I know you might not feel the same. Which is fine. I just couldn’t not tell you. It’s been driving me crazy and when I thought you felt the same and then didn’t, I thought I’d be okay hiding it. But I’m not. I’m too proud to hide my love for you anymore. I’m not good enough an actor to play like this doesn’t matter. Like you don’t matter to me.”You burst with words.
Michael looks at you and in an instant is in front of you hands darting to your jaw. He finally, finally, crashes his lips down to meet yours. Taking, searching, trying to absorb everything that you’ve been missing for so many years. You don’t know how long you stand there making out in the street in front of your apartment kissing like horny teenagers, but you don’t care. Eventually Robby pulls back.
“I love you too. If it wasn’t obvious enough already.” He says scanning your face.
“Finally.” You say.
“Do you want to come up?”
You hear Robby’s steps come up behind you as they wrap around your waist. His lips are on shoulders, slowly going up your neck. He’s handsy, you’d always suspected, but it’s nice to be reassured.
Here’s the next part!

Bianca go sleep!!!!!!!!!
I read the HR interview with Jake. He needs a little more confidence in himself. I get that it's a surprise to book an acting job but damn....if he always thinks it's his last or he doesn't believe in himself that much then he has some work to do personally.
He seems like one who won't get too into character like a method actor, like he'll act but not lose himself in it so he's still himself while acting a part. That's not something another person can help with he will have to realise that on his own.
Anyways chiiiiiiiii I think I'll get a pair of crocs and a bagel hat 😊
I slept but I could use some more 😴
Yeah the answers to some questions are interesting. I don’t know if I get a sense that he’s passionate about his jobs and work though.
Anyway, maybe we should start our own line of bagel hats or something.

What an interesting topic. I’ve heard that a large percentage of employees cite their bosses as the reason they leave their jobs. What are some ways companies try to mitigate this?
They don't.
I can really only answer for my company, which cared about retention (of employees) a lot. Many companies do, because it costs much less to recruit/onboard/train as little as possible, and because it can be hard to get the work done without adequate staffing. I'd add that my company had one area in which staffing was a nation-wide crisis; also my company was in the public sector and was in the press a lot, which mean they cared about their image.
They still didn't do that much to ensure that people had good bosses. That has less to do with this company and more to do with the structure of business in capitalist society. This is a big reason HR is never going to be that helpful unless you've got a tiny company that, completely by luck, has mostly good folks.
A company isn't going to take a generalized point about folks leaving their job because they don't like their bosses as fact. Companies feel they are too diverse and the financial risk is too great to pour money into something if they don't have hard data, so the first step to retention is getting data. You would think exit interviews would be really informative, but those require a lot of time which equals staff which equals money. Some employers do them but mine would only do one if you asked, and then they did nothing with the info. This is because the company's mentality was "well, if you're leaving you're probably really dissatisfied and we don't want to hear about that." I know this makes no sense. But in general, not just in the business but in this society (formed by capitalism), the idea seems to be if you're dissatisfied it's your fault. Meanwhile the company is interested in data about why people stay; they figure if folks are satisfied, that's the company's fault and they want to keep doing the same so they can retain employees.
Our company had a huge employee satisfaction survey they did every year that included questions about employee opinions about the company, their colleagues, and their bosses. You get emails to remind you to take it and if you can't get time in the workday, bosses are supposed to allow time for it. Some problems with that are you still have to remember to take it; if you don't have time you have to ask a boss you might not like to get that time; some folks at my company literally had jobs that literally are life or death so it can be hard to take time to take a survey; the survey is only in English; the survey is only in the computer; the reminders are only in email. So you have to be a moderately good English speaker who regularly checks email and knows how to use a computer and gets regular access to a computer for the company to get your data about your satisfaction. As you can imagine, our most vulnerable employees often get missed.
If the survey showed that folks were really dissatisfied with a particular boss, that boss got put into a series of trainings. Training is good, but US businesses (and plenty of employees themselves) seemed to have latched onto the idea that training is the be-all, end-all of improvement. Many of us saw this in response to the discussions about EDI (equity, diversity, and inclusion) that came about in 2020; business promised to be anti-racist and had some EDI seminars to prove it, and that was all. Why is it like this? What is really needed to make bosses better bosses? And why isn't that being done?
When it comes to "why is it like this": recruiting and retaining good leaders is hard. The way someone becomes a boss in almost any organization is a) management likes them, and/or b) they were good at a job in a lower level or different department, or c) they come from the outside with a good resume and what sounds like good experience. But a lot of time, management likes people who aren't disruptive, and sometimes folks who aren't disruptive are the folks who are not thinking for themselves and not asking questions and doing everything the way they're told even when it doesn't make sense. That doesn't make a good leader. As for folks who are good at the lower level job in the hierarchy or in another department, they aren't always good at managing. It's a different skill set, but I've seen a lot of leaders and employees make this mistake. They think that that the folks who are great at the job should be promoted, and honestly that really doesn't make sense. And last but not least, folks who get hired from the outside are a complete crapshoot, because experience with leadership does not necessarily a good leader make.
As for what is needed to make bosses better bosses, imo what you would really need is someone embedded within the department who is managed by the boss and is doing the same work as the other employees, but also has the training and experience to evaluate what the boss is doing well and isn't doing well, and then also has the authority and buy-in to work with the boss so that the boss can shadow and learn the leadership skills they need. Then, if the boss can't improve, there would need to be the will within the org to fire or demote that boss, and often that will doesn't exist because recruiting bosses is so hard and the training is usually monumental.
Side note, what I'm describing is what consultants should do and normally don't. Consultants come in and ask a lot of questions and do focus groups and maybe some observations, but they are not in there doing the work understanding what it is like to live in this world, and without that I frankly find a lot of the work they do useless. That said, consultants are almost always hired to identify inefficiencies; they're not really there to make it a more satisfying job. Imo, the greatest efficiency is a satisfied worker, but it is hard to get the data to point that way, and again, companies only want data, and again, your dissatisfaction is your own fault.
Another side note, this is why unions are so great. Union stewards are folks who work for the company but can act as a union representative. This means they're embedded in the department and doing the work everyone does, but they can also at times step outside that role and carry the authority of an outside entity that does have some power to use against the employer. This is why all employees should have a union.
So, why aren't companies doing this? As you can imagine, hiring the ambassador to embed within a department, training them, paying them for their time--all of these are just too cost prohibitive to justify when they only thing you're getting out of it is employee satisfaction. It is also possible to improve employee satisfaction by paying employees more, which is in fact why I stayed in this job I hated as long as I did. I was getting paid so much that it just did not make sense to walk away without a firm plan in place. In the end, paying employees more costs less than ensuring they have a good boss.
I have lots more to say about this, but I've said a lot already, so if anyone has follow up questions, feel free to send more asks.

Binary Star
Part II

Pairing: academic rival!Satoru Gojo x reader
Warnings: yandere, obsession, power play, hurt/comfort, no curse au, this series will get darker as the story progresses.
Words: 1.2k
Summary: It has to pay off, he thinks as he waits for the headmaster to finally announce the valedictorian, knowing she is there too, shifting from one foot to the other impatiently. What face is she going to make when his name will be called? Is she going to cry? To yell at him and publicly demand a re-evaluation? Or will she, perhaps, finally admit he’s done a fantastic job and won fair and square?
Part I
P.S. Academic rival -> CEO!Gojo
_____________
When he spots her name in the stack of papers his HR left on her desk, Satoru gets a brain freeze for a second. Couldn't be the girl he had once studied together with, no. It's been what, more than ten years since he had last seen her? It must be some other woman wearing the same name.
But he can't just leave the paper be, immediately taking it in his hands while the manager makes a confused face: Satoru only looks at the candidates' profiles when they are aiming for the high management positions in his company, nothing less. This woman, however, applied for the middle-level position, only recently becoming a senior at her old job. Why is the CEO looking at her CV so intently?
All Gojo sees is the name of the school they both graduated what feels like a hundred years ago, and he knows it's her. It's the girl who was his one and only rival, someone he had finally considered his equal when they both were fighting for the position of a valedictorian. It's her. He can finally understand what has happened.
Not that he wasn't searching for answers right after graduation. Knowing Shoko sometimes hung out with her, he was showering the girl with questions until she groaned something about the family of his classmate moving and that it's likely he would never see her again. She didn't tell why. Said she had no idea.
It's true, Satoru sees now: his old rival did move god knows where, nearly half across the country to a place he didn't even know existed. Some tiny city, he thinks as he googles the college she attended only to realize that it is, in fact, a community college. Community college? For someone as talented as her? Was she out of her goddamn mind? Even if she, for some unfathomable reason, didn't want to go to Harvard like him, despite her scholarchip, she could have chosen any other decent place with her marks. How could she do this to herself?
He continues reading the resume, the memories of her annoyingly pretty face fresh in his mind as if it all happened just yesterday. Internships at some tiny companies, assistant positions, and other entry-level jobs she should have never taken in places he has never heard of either... Until she finally moved here about two years ago and started slowly climbing the career ladder. Unfortunately, her CV leaves Gojo with more questions than answers he expected.
"I want you to interview her," he finally says to his HR manager, who's been shifting in her seat impatiently ever since he had taken the printed papers from her desk. "And if she says yes, I want to know when she'll come."
He isn't sure why he's doing it. It's been far too long to be holding any grudges, and, honestly speaking, he isn't angry at his old school rival. Curious, perhaps? This must be it. He just wants a closure of sorts. He wants to know why she has abandoned everything she believed in, even if it's selfish of him to be prying into her past. Clearly, something had happened. Something horrible.
Did she get pregnant, maybe? Gave birth? Remembering her father, he wouldn't be surprised if it was the reason they had to move. And yet, she didn't seem the type to do something like that... Not when he had never seen her speaking to boys outside of school, and even then, she would only be talking to them about lessons and future college or university prospects.
He has to have some patience, Satoru thinks. Surely, she'll accept the interview and come in person.
And she does, walking in the building - Gojo watches her from above, peering down from his fancy cabinet with enormous windows - just two days later. She looks somewhat different - not that he didn’t expect her to change after all these years - but there's the same air about her, he can feel it in his bones. It makes him strangely nostalgic, and he starts to itch to go down and talk to her the second she waltzes into the office of his HR. He needs to know why she left. Her secrets are making him restless like a child.
He needs to see her face when she realizes he's both the owner and the CEO of the company she wants to work for.
After giving her about 10 minutes, Gojo runs down the building as if he's a boy chasing an ice cream truck. He needs to see her. The itch that has been dormant for almost ten years is almost unbearable now, and he has no time to waste before she disappears again from his life.
"Yuki, I have a question..." he starts as if he has no idea she's conducting an interview at this very moment, making a surprised face and almost shouting the name of the woman he once called his equal. "Woah, I can't believe it! Is it really you?!"
Satoru knows it's not right to be that happy about her baffled - if not fearful - expression, but he can't help himself. Here she is, the girl who could never shut up in class whenever a teacher asked them a question, sitting in the office he built with the money he earned, not borrowed from his father. He is where she has always wanted to be, Gojo is sure. Geto would probably smack him for being a smug bastard in front of a woman who surely has nothing against him, but Satoru feels ecstatic.
Until he sees she is not only scared: she is terrified. Why? Is it because her old rival ended up doing much better than her? She must be feeling upset and jealous, but she shouldn't be horrified. There's nothing to be scared of. Is she worried she won't get this job because she thinks Satoru is a manchild who can't forgive her for their silly school competition?
Or is she scared of him?
He doesn't like the thought.
"I'm so happy to see you!" He adds with a too-wide smile. "What are you doing here?"
It's concerning how she bites down on her lower lip, nearly ripping the thin skin covered in lipstick.
Thankfully, Yuki finally acknowledges his presence with an awkward smile, "Mr. Gojo, good morning. I apologize, but we are in the middle of a job interview. If it's alright with you, I'll come see you a little later."
The woman in front of him still doesn't utter a single word, and he feels like she'll escape him again if he lets her. With a dramatic sigh and a smile so wide it's a wonder how his face hasn't cracked yet, he announces to her, "Oh dear, I'm so sorry for interrupting! But you'll wait for me after your interview, alright? We can go grab a coffee together! It's not like it's against our company policy, right, Yuki?"
If eyes could kill, he would definitely be dead by now because his HR is ready to stab him with a fork she once stole from a cafeteria and is now keeping in one of her drawers. Satoru isn't that suicidal yet, so he quietly leaves her office before his old rival can utter a single word.
Now, this is about to get interesting.

How to answer tough interview questions.
Subscribing to the Harvard Business Review was one of the best decisions I made. I have learned so much about career development, personal branding, and job crafting. This article summarizes some of the questions you will get asked in a behavioral interview (courtesy of HBR) and I have included my responses to all of them. Assume I am seeking a HR role in a Fortune 500 company
Tell me about yourself and describe your background in brief?
How did you hear about this position?
What type of work environment do you prefer?
How do you deal with pressure or a stressful situation?
Do you prefer working independently or on a team?
How do you keep yourself organized when balancing multiple projects?
What did you do in the last year to improve your knowledge?
Tell me about yourself and describe your background in brief?
I grew up in small country in West Africa. I went to a great school through scholarship with the condition that I would pay it forward to the younger generation. So, after high-school I spent two years teaching math to elementary school kids. It was there I discovered my interest of people development. I enjoyed taking a kid from "I don't like math to can I get more homework? When I moved to the U.S for college I chose to study Psychology with a minor in Organizational Development. And my internship as a Human Capital Manager has allowed me to further develop my communication and leadership skills.
How did you hear about this position?
I learned about this position through Stacy Williams. She was one of the panelists on the fireside chat I convened in my school on the importance of women in leadership positions. I followed up with her through a coffee chat. She really enjoyed her job and the company culture. Her enthusiasm about her work encouraged me to apply and I am really excited to be going through the interview process.
What type of work environment do you prefer?
I thrive in environments where I am constantly learning. A place where each days brings a fresh set of challenges that I can solve. I also like working with teams where we can collaborate on tasks and brainstorm solution-oriented ideas. In my former internship I worked with an incredible team as a project manager in the human resources division and I worked on certain projects where I had full creative control on the outcome. I enjoyed the balance of both.
How do you deal with pressure or a stressful situation?
Stressful situations are inevitable and I learned to navigate them successful throughout my college career and my various internships. The first time I came across a stressful situation was in my Sophomore year. I worked as a customer service representative at a big department store and it was holiday season. You can imagine the amount of pressure - long lines of customers all waiting to get attended too. Instead of succumbing to the pressure I made sure to really understand the pain point of each customer which were long wait times and stock outs. If we were out of one brand of sparkling water, I would quickly recommend a different brand. If lines were long, I would go to the floor to help the bagging process. Customers left feeling satisfied with their shopping experience. Overtime, I have realized that the key to dealing with pressure is willingly choosing to complete the tasks with a positive mindset instead of worrying.
Do you prefer working independently or on a team?
I like a mix of both. I enjoy working on a team. The process of strategizing with my teammates on the best way to approach a problem allows for critical analysis and diverse points of view. Wh I also build camaraderie and trust with them while we tackle big problems. I enjoy working alone as well because I get to see how I approach different problems and compare my current performance to my previous ones. Working alone also gives me an opportunity to get feedback from my managers on my progress or areas of improvement. I like a balance of both.
How do you keep yourself organized when balancing multiple projects?
I am used to working on multiple projects. A typical semester for me is juggling between my classes, weekend job, extracurricular activities, and passion projects. So to stay on top of my deadlines and due dates I like to prioritize my tasks based on their level of urgency and importance. I use the time blocking method to schedule time for my projects. I take advantage of tools like Google calendar to keep track of due dates and appointments and Notion to manage big projects.
What did you do in the last year to improve your knowledge?
Last summer, I took some time off to really learn about veganism. It seemed intimidating at first because I did not know enough. So I turned to research to understand the facts. I began making home-cooked meals by following recipes from people I trusted and liked on YouTube. As I began noticing changes in my gut health and productivity levels, I started a blog to share my experiences. Now my blog has over 500 enthusiastic vegans who are on the same journey as I am. it was one of the best investment I made in myself.

We've been interviewing for another person doing work similar to mine but for our client. One person that I wasn't sure about a higher up was impressed by.
My notes were that I had more questions about the resume and screening questions because things didn't make sense. I couldn't get a clear sense of what the person's current job role was. There were buzz words / phrases that didn't fit. If it was just me and my boss, I wouldn't have picked this candidate.
I work with this higher up, too. She is savvy about her subject area but maybe hasn't read a lot of resumes. While my boss knows I used to be in staffing/recruiting before my career switch, this person doesn't.
When the candidate interviewed, my reservations became clear. They were not as experienced as the resume tried to show. We all agreed that they weren't a fit.
They mentioned having a friend who works here in both their interview and HR screen. I'm guessing they were an employee referral.
That employee IMed the week after the interview. I gave a neutral answer of 'thanks for reaching out' and let my boss and the other interviewer know. We all had a similar "ugh" reaction.
I rarely get IMed at this place (a blessing). I was working with the higher up on a thing yesterday and thought this IM I just got was her. Nope. It's the employee.
I'm waiting for Teams to email me about the unread message to see what it is. Whatever it is, it's pushy. They're smart enough to not have messaged my boss or the other interviewer last week when I let them know. They aren't smart enough to realize I'm letting them know anyway.
#it's nice to know that i can still read a resume and get a decent sense#recruiting lost it's appeal when the big 3 in MI switched to a automatic screening system#this was in the early 00s and it's not gotten better#this company's hr has only forwarded 15 resumes and only 1 was really decent#by big 3 i meant the us automotive big 3 at the time which were GM Ford and Chrysler

i applied for a job at a call center, even tho it was the worst job i've ever had when i did it for a year in 2014-2015. but i have no choice, i need a job. here are the steps to get hired. the wage would be between $16 and $18 CAD (minimum wage where i live is $15.75 CAD so it's not even a great wage)
send your resume + cover letter and hope to be selected
first assessment on the phone (conversation of about 15 minutes)
french test of 20 questions (only 60 seconds for each question)
english test of 20 questions (only 60 seconds for each question)
a "PI behavorial assessment" of 2 "there's no good or bad answer, we just wanna get to know you" questions
audio test of four difficult 30-second questions that are real work situations/calls where you have to read, listen, and type at the same time (2 in french, 2 in english)
if all of this works out, there's a 30-minute video interview with HR
and another final video interview with the supervisor
is it just me or its fucking CRAZY for a position that's barely above minimum wage???? like. what the fuck why is it so demanding skdfjbndfsds.
but then the dude also told me they received 250 resumes and there are only looking for 2 people, so i guess they have to filter people out, somehow...
#i'm just so flabbergasted#i just did all the tests but the audio test#tests weren't too hard and i think the english one was easier than the french one tbh lol#which. should worry me since french *is* my mother tongue#anyway kasdjhbsda#shut up alie

You, me and Vegas! Part 4

Warning- Fluff, little angst, job rejection.
Bucky fidgeted nervously in the waiting area of the office building. The air of the room was thick with anticipation. He adjusted his tie, tried to smoothen out the wrinkles in his suit, and kept running through potential questions and answers in his mind.
Each minute felt like an eternity as he waited for his name to be called. His heart thumped loudly in his chest, a heavy reminder of the weight of this interview.
Other candidates sat in nearby chairs, some of them exuding confidence and calm, others mirroring Bucky's nervousness. He couldn't help but glance at them occasionally, wondering how they managed to keep their cool while he felt like he was about to vibrate out of his skin.
A man, who looked like the human resources manager, suddenly stepped out of a room and looked around the waiting area. “James Barnes?” he called out, his voice slicing through the tension.
The manager gave him a once-over, his gaze taking in Bucky's appearance. “Right, follow me.” he said, gesturing for Bucky to follow him into the room.
Bucky inhaled a deep breath and followed the HR manager, the sound of his heart beating in his ears growing louder with each step. The moment of truth was here. He just hoped he could pull this off and get the job.
The HR manager led Bucky to a small but tidy office. The manager gestured to a chair in front of a desk and settled himself behind it. “Please, sit down.” he said, his tone polite yet firm.
Bucky complied, his eyes darting around the room, taking in the diplomas and degrees hung on the walls. He perched on the edge of the chair, his hands gripping the arms tightly.
The manager picked up a file that was on his desk, flipping through it briefly. “So, Mr. Barnes,” he began, looking up at Bucky. “Tell me a little bit about yourself.”
This was it, the dreaded question. Bucky swallowed, his mind momentarily blank. He took another deep breath, attempting to steady his voice. “Well, I've worked in the renovation field for about six years now,” he started, his voice a little hoarse but regaining strength as he continued. “I'm good with my hands, I've worked on both small and large-scale projects...”
The interview proceeded, the manager asking a series of questions, each one meticulously designed to assess Bucky's skills, experience, and aptitude for the job. Bucky, despite his initial nervousness, found himself answering as honestly and confidently as he could, his years of experience coming through in his responses.
After a series of questions, the HR manager placed his pen down on the table. “Mr. Barnes, you have impressive credentials, but I must ask, why did you leave your last job?”
Bucky tensed at the question, expecting it but still not quite prepared. He had anticipated this question and had spent time thinking of an answer that wouldn't make him seem unprofessional or unreliable.
Taking a moment to gather his thoughts, he responded. “There were... some disagreements with the management there,” he chose his words carefully. “I believe the work environment wasn't the best fit for me.”
Bucky, after answering the final question, felt a mix of relief now that the interview was over and a pang of disappointment, waiting for the result. The HR manager looked at him apologetically.
“Mr. Barnes, I must say, you have some remarkable skills and experience,” he began, a hint of regret in his voice. “Unfortunately, for this job, we will be going with a different candidate who better fits the role.”
Peach stood outside the courthouse, waiting for Bucky to arrive after his job interview. Seeing him emerge from his car, across the street, she saw the look on his face even from afar. His shoulders were slumped, his expression despondent. It was clear the interview hadn't gone well.
She watched as Bucky made his way over to her, his steps slow and heavy. As he approached, she noticed the defeated look in his eyes. He didn't even need to say anything. The disappointment was written all over his face.
“Hey,” she greeted, trying to sound casual, though concern was evident in her voice. “How'd the interview go?”
Bucky let out a heavy sigh. “Didn't get the job,” he replied, his voice hollow. The rejection still stung, his confidence taking a hit.
Peach's heart went out to him. She could easily imagine how hard he'd worked on preparing for that interview, how much pressure he must have been under. “I'm sorry,” she said, her tone sincere. “That sucks.”
Bucky nodded, shoving his hands into his pockets. “Yeah, it does,” he muttered. “I really thought I had that one. Just can't seem to catch a break lately.”
Peach studied him for a moment, the tension in his shoulders, the slight downturn of his mouth. She knew things had been tough for him lately, and he was trying his best.
She reached out, placing a gentle hand on his arm. “Hey,” she said softly, “don't let this get to you too much, okay? You'll find something else.”
Bucky looked at her, a flicker of appreciation in his eyes. Her words calmed him a bit, her touch grounding him. “Yeah, I know,” he said, managing a small smile. “Just feels like one step forward, two steps back lately, y'know?”
Peach nodded. “Trust me, I get it. Life has a weird way of throwing you curveballs, just when you think you've got it all figured out. But you're strong, Bucky. You'll get through this.”
Bucky looked at her, really looked. There was something about her.
Her sincerity, her understanding that made him feel less alone in this moment. “Thanks,” he said, his voice soft. “I guess I needed to hear that. Come on let's get done with this.”
They turned and walked towards the courthouse. Peach could see Bucky's mind was elsewhere, probably still processing the rejection. She wanted to say more, do something to lighten his mood, but knew he needed silence more than anything else right now.
With that, they walked towards the courthouse, both of them bracing themselves for the task ahead.
As they entered the courthouse, they were greeted by the sight of lawyers and couples going about their business. The atmosphere was a mix of seriousness and tension.
They walked in silence for a few moments. The weight of the unsuccessful interview still hung heavily in the air, but Bucky seemed to have lightened up a bit. Peach kept stealing glances at him, her heart aching for him and his struggles.
Bucky and Peach waited in the lobby, feeling a bit out of place amidst the couples. They looked at each other, a shared sense of uncertainty in their eyes. The impending annulment hung heavy between them. It was a reminder of the mistake they'd made, the situation they found themselves in.
As they waited for their turn, Bucky glanced at Peach from time to time. She was quiet, her gaze fixed on her hands that were clutched together on her lap. He wanted to say something, anything, to lighten the mood, but the gravity of the situation made him stay silent.
A woman, a clerk at the courthouse, called out their names, breaking the silence that had settled over them. “Mr. Barnes and Ms. L/n?” she called out, glancing at a paper in her hand.
Bucky and Peach looked at each other, acknowledging that their turn had come. They stood up, their movements a bit stiff, and headed towards the clerk, preparing themselves for the proceeding.
The clerk led them into an office, a lawyer and his assistant already waiting for them. The two of them found themselves sitting on opposite ends of a desk, the reality of the situation finally setting in.
The lawyer, a middle-aged man with a stern but neutral expression, started the proceeding. “Alright, Mr. Barnes and Ms. L/n,” he began, his tone professional. “In order to start the annulment process, I need to ask a few questions.”
Bucky and Peach nodded, bracing themselves for the questions that were about to come their way.
The lawyer started asking them series of questions such as influence of alcohol, pressure or force. But the last question was the cheery on the cake.
The lawyer, his tone firm, looked at them directly. His eyes fixed on them, “Did you two have sex?”
Bucky felt his cheeks warm up, as he replied, “Yes?”
Peach nodded in agreement, her face flushed as well. “I don’t know…”
Bucky changed his answer again, “I don’t know too…” Peach changed her answer too, “Yes?”
The lawyer made another note on the paper, while Peach mouthed ‘Sorry’ to Bucky, who gave her a smile.
The lawyer, satisfied with the answers he had received, moved onto explaining the process of annulment. “Alright,” he began, his voice a calm professional. “Since your circumstances fall under the legal terms for an annulment, we can start the process.”
“In about a month,” he continued, “the papers will be ready. You'll need to sign them, and the marriage will be annulled as if it never existed.”
Bucky and Peach listened intently, the words hitting them. Just a month. That's all it would take for this mistake to be undone. It was a simple process, but the implications felt huge.
They exchanged a glance, seeing the same mixture of relief and discomfort mirrored in each other's eyes.
The ride back home was unusually silent. Bucky was driving, his focus on the road but his mind elsewhere. Occasionally looking at Peach from the corner of his eye, he could sense her nervousness and unease, mirrored his own.
Peach, on the other hand, sat quietly in the passenger seat, gazing out of the window. The cityscape outside was just a blur to her as her thoughts swirled in her head.
The silence was thick, both of them not knowing quite how to break it.
Her wandering gaze fell on the backseat, where she noticed a file lying there. Bucky's interview file. The sight of it made her heart ache. It was a reminder of his recent job interview, and the subsequent rejection.
Peach felt a pang of empathy. She could only imagine how hard Bucky must have worked on the preparation, how much hope he must have had, only to have it dashed by a single, regretful ‘No’.
“How are you feeling?”
Bucky glanced at her, surprised by the sudden question. He hadn't expected her to bring up the topic. “Uh, fine,” he answered, his voice noncommittal. “Just... need to find a new job, I guess.”
Peach looked at him, seeing the slight tensing of his shoulders as he spoke. She knew he was trying to downplay it, but she could see the disappointment and worry etched on his face.
“I have an idea, that will help you feel better…”
Bucky, sensing the underlying insinuation in her words, glanced at her. He wasn't sure where she was going with this, but the look in her eyes made him curious. “Yeah? What's your idea?” he inquired, raising an eyebrow.
Peach looked at him, her eyes reflecting her dilemma. “I don't know if it's the best idea considering...I should be saving money…”
Bucky, noticing her hesitance, wanted to ease her mind. He gave her a reassuring smile. “Come on,” he said, “tell me, I'm paying. What is it?”
With Bucky's insistence, Peach seemed to make up her mind. Her eyes lit up as she gave the instruction, a hint of excitement in her voice. “Just take a left turn here.”

ch. vi - fire ?
neurosurgeon!hongjoong × reader
buy me coffee ?
tw : medical emergency
where love and peace is held, i never expected for this to happen. i planned and i planned, i expected, and i hoped, but it was never you. you held what i wanted hostage to make room for you, the thing that i needed but has no means of acceptance. deny me, live your best life.

It had been a while since you stepped into a hospital in the hopes of getting a job. Last time you did, you were younger and more naïve, unaware of what the job entails. Unaware of what was waiting for you.
The thought of working as a nurse kind of made your palms sweaty and knees knock slightly. You suddenly wanted to run but you had already told the HR that you were there and Yeonjun had spent a good amount of time prepping you. Not to mention Wooyoung who gave you the opportunity itself. You can't disappoint them and you can't disappoint yourself. You kept repeating the words your dad told you after that morning's call, "Calm down, take a deep breath, hold until 3, then bust a move."
He's dorky but you love him.
So in your attempt to distract yourself from your nerves, you began looking around the hospital, taking note of the things around you and naming them. It was then that a noise caught your attention from the end of the hall, causing you to immediately snap your head towards the direction. You couldn't see it clearly but you saw an abandoned cart rattling and shaking slightly before a tiny figure emerged, going on his tippy toes trying to get something from the top. It worried you to see a kid rummaging through carts like that as in hospitals, there's a chance that the cart could be filled with medical equipment that children shouldn't play with. You would've attended to the boy and brought him back to his parents but you were about to get called in for the interview any time and frankly, you learn to leave things that are not your responsibility alone. As hard as it was. So you looked back to your lap and took a scan through your resume, recalling the things Wooyoung wanted you to mention and the way you should explain things.
As you were deep in your own head, practising answers to potential questions, you heard clattering sounds from the direction where you saw the boy and soon you saw him on his back on the floor. Your eyes squinted in hopes of getting a better view of what was going on, both curious and worried, so you let your legs move on their own, walking closer to the figure only to hear strangled noises coming from the boy who was slowly turning blue.
"Oh my God," you whispered, body freezing in shock. No matter how much you were trained to face emergencies, the sight of the boy convulsing on the floor with his lips turning blue was scary enough to render you useless. Your hands shook and flashes of memories passed in your head, the figure of the boy who was in front of you mixed together with flashes of another child who was lying on his bed with blaring alarms from machines flooding your mind, almost suffocating you as well.
"No, no," You whimpered, bottom lip trembling as your eyes swam with tears, "Not again."
The boy lay not far from you, face red and lips turning blue in a position that made his choking even worse. You knew you had to help, you knew that at that moment, there was no one else but you who could help him and you needed to act fast.
With a bit of struggle, you managed to get your frozen body moving again slowly, step by step. You fell to his side and saw that the boy was clutching an empty jello container. You immediately put the information in your head, slightly relieved that it was a rather softer food instead of literally anything that wasn't food or worse, something sharp.
Though you were practically trembling in a mixture of fear and PTSD, you braced yourself, you grabbed the boy and dragged him to your lap, placing his chest on your thigh as you made sure his mouth was opened. As you manhandled the boy, you could feel how rigid his body was and it did not make you any more relieved/ Heck, it reminded you how you had to move fast or else it was another kid's life in your hands.
For a moment, you hesitated, you didn't want to do something you felt you were not ready for yet. But what were you supposed to do? So after successfully pushing the thought aside, you began striking the boy's back hard, right between his shoulder blades. The first hit made you stiffen, afraid that you might have done more harm than good and slightly hoping that it was all it took. But alas, the boy's face was turning purple and when you saw his eyes rolling back, something took over your whole body, something that was a mixture of determination and fear. You can not lose this boy, not when you can do something about it, you decided. So you sent blow after blow, one by one, and with each one delivered, you felt your mental state slipping slightly to the point that it seemed like you were not in control of your body anymore. You were fully aware that you had been trying to get the boy to cough up the jello he choked on, but you had absolutely no idea how to stop.
You swore you processed what went on, you swore you finally heard the boy's clear, loud cries from his lung that was no longer congested. You realized that you managed to save the boy but your hand wouldn't stop hitting him until you were yanked away and thrown to the other side. With your body slumping, you slowly regained consciousness of what was going on. Your cognition came back like a wave of cold water crashing onto your body. You hadn't had time to fully comprehend at what point of time you were at when you were yanked up to your feet.
"What did you think you were doing!?" you recognized her as the HR personnel who was supposed to interview you. "What?" you gasped out, a little delirious from your dissociated state but she didn't care, "Why were you hitting that boy!?" she yelled out, surprising you. At the mention of the boy, however, your eyes darted around until you fell to his crying figure. He was being held by a nurse who was glaring at you as we wailed loudly, so loud that it caught the attention of the people who were slowly gathering around. It didn't occur to you earlier at all but once reality crashed down on you, you recognized the boy as Kijoong, the boy Wooyoung brought to Yeonjun's cafe a couple days back.
Just as you felt relieve, the HR personnel snapped her fingers in front of your line of sight. "Well?" She asked, seeking an explanation out of you. Dread crawled to your chest and the look of absolute distaste and Kijoong's wails only made you feel worse, it struck a deep sense of fear in you. "I-I was, I saw him there all alone a-and I noticed he was taking, I think it was jellos? He got up and a-and got like a jello from the unattended cart so-," "So you punished- no, ASSAULTED a child you don't know because he was being juvenile?" She snapped, voice loud as she stressed the word 'assaulted'. Your eyes widened and you shook your head quickly and you moved to take a step back only to fail. That moment you realized that you were being held by a security guard who was rather bulky, unable to escape even if it was just to create some distance. "No! I-I, look, I was-" the words were at the tip of your tongue but your brain was muddled, your cognition was not working correctly and maybe it was because you had had what could only be practically described as an out of body experience, but it was also due to the situation you were put in. Who would be able to stay calm in that situation?
Though she could've waited for you to explain, she simply rolled her eyes and told the security guard to escort you out the hospital after making sure that security has your picture and profile.
"P-profile? Wha- Excuse me?" Things weren't making sense and the people who were there did not provide clarity. The HR personnel paused momentarily in front of you, letting out one sharp exhale, "I'm afraid we can't process you in our hospital, Ms. (y/l/n). The behaviour you had just shown in this very unnecessary situation tells a lot about your personality and I do believe with absolute certainty that you would not fit in with this hospital. Frankly, I do not think you are fit to work in this profession whatsoever. The interview is off, you are no longer permitted back into this hospital, effective immediately," she then turned sharply just as you saw Kijoong being put on a gurney and getting strolled out.
"Wait!" You called out, what for? You weren't sure. It didn't matter anyway because just as Kijoong's voice grew further as he got wheeled away, you were dragged with such force by the security, past the group of people who were glaring, leering, and whispering at your expense.
Honestly, you didn't even care about the interview or the job opportunity, you just wanted to make sure that the kid was okay. Sure, his voice was loud and clear, but you wished there was a way for you to be absolutely sure.
One thing is for sure though, you may have lost an opportunity, but you had potentially saved a life.
