I just love drawing families of fictional characters, its interesting to think of how each sibling would look. I try to make them different from one another but at the same time maintain familial similarities.
Jinzha resembles their mom, Muzha their dad, and Nezha's a good mix of both.
Also get ready with some sibling dynamic rant, mostly relation HCs by me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Enough with the parent child dynamic
I want sibling dynamic. Where these three come to terms on what happened between them. Specifically Muzha and Nezha's interaction is the one I want to see.
Tbh those two's fates in the myth reminded me of Hyakkimaru and Tahomaru in Dororo.
Like Nezha and Muzha had so much potential to gain solidarity with each other. Because Jinzha could never relate to them as the ignored or unwanted child. Muzha has that middle child stuggle fr.
Tumblr media
Muzha is the one so eager to gain their fathers favor trying to meet Jinzha's level . Nezha wants nothing from his father so he makes himself worse.
Muzha's frustration with Nezha is that Nezha is rebellious, disrespectful of their dad
Tumblr media
While Nezha's frustration to Muzha is that Muzha is so blinded and always struggling to achieve something so futile. Deep down he hates how Muzha is suffering this way but he wouldnt speak of it. This is why they always at odds.
They should make a movie focusin the Li brothers fr
Other than overusing the actual myths.
Fuck the ending from the original myth, they didnt even consider how the children felt from all the abuse. Not even mention of Muzha's death.
Enough Ao Bing, what about Muzha???
And the moral lesson is just about "respecting elders"?? The story still had so much to wrap up. How can you call this a family if there is some sort of hierarchal system. A family requires empathy to maintain that connection.
Tbh its kinda realistic
Families and siblings can still inflict trauma from each other .And a story based on reconcilation is a good way for this to be about family counselling.
I wanna see the "what ifs". It could be each brothers own story of self healing from the trauma caused on each other.
Maybe Im getting my hopes up too much, but it could be a development for them to forgive, start anew and an opportunity to connect and catch up on what they missed on each other.
Edit:
As for Jinzha he also has his own struggles as the eldest. Keeping up the station as the golden favored and perfect son. But its Asian family dynamics, which means hes in a lot of pressure. But he is mentally and emotionally strong. The brothers always busy on his studies ,future responsibilities and training to be able to spend time together. Their timetables seemed to be planned out to always not meet. Jinzha especially had less freetime. And if he ever came across any of his brothers, it was only one of them never both.
He doesnt mind being a buffer for the other two feuding but it does stress him out that it will never change. But he'll make sure to give time and attention to both of them as much as he can.
Other than keeping up his fathers expectations he also doesnt want to fail as a big brother to them🥺😭
Muzha and Nezha can see his efforts so they do not dare hold anything against him. Muzha still keeps his competitive attitude when Jinzha's around but accepts any offered kindness from Jinzha. While Nezha enjoys his company when he gets the chance.
Tumblr media
Also because I tend to hold on to this little bit of bonding😭🥺🥺Jinzha trying to be the best big bro
Thinking of the contrast in the future where Jinzha was tasked to torture Nezha destroyed me😭😭😭What did Jinzha even feel while he had to do it??
Also here some Nezha with his hair down again

[Capcom vs. Osamu Tezuka Characters] : Mega Man Style Astro Boy Sprites
Tumblr media
Capcom vs. Osamu Tezuka Characters isn't a video game, but an art project created by the two title companies. Exhibits have been held twice now, the first event was simply called Capcom vs. Osamu Tezuka Characters whereas the follow-up was titled Capcom vs. Osamu Tezuka Characters'. ( The dash likely being a reference to Street Fighter II' aka Street Fighter II: Championship Edition. )
Tumblr media
The pieces created for this collaboration are a delight to flip through. Seeing Capcom characters like Chun Li, Leon Kennedy and Phoenix Wright rendered in Tezuka's classic style is something I never knew I needed. And of course, Mega Man looks incredible when styled like Astro Boy.
Tumblr media
Capcom's characters weren't the only ones to sport a new look, Tezuka's characters were also rendered to reference the artistry of Capcom's creatives ( Hyakkimaru by Shinkiro! 😱 ). One of the more clever ways the video game developer achieved this is by using pixel art.
Tumblr media
These Mega Man style Astro Boy sprites were created for promotional materials and merchandise. Since there's no game to rip these sprites from, I assembled these by eyeballing those references.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Most of the 8-bit Astro Boy sprites are simple edits of Mega Man's, but two (mostly) original sprites were created to reference some of his signature gestures/actions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I had to make an educated guess as to what shades of grey, red and yellow to use since these are recreations and not actual sprite rips. And because the sprite of Astro Boy using his back cannon is only seen against a black background, I can't even be 100% sure if some details like the pixel between his chin and chest should or shouldn't be there. Them the breaks!)

Thank you so much for the icons, Story! Hyakkimaru is very dear to me even if his story does turn into a curing disability one unfortunately. But I really do appreciate how he's characterized and relate to him a lot in my own experiences as a seriously disabled person. If only you did more edit types for his source, but it might be too dark/bloody for your tastes. Thanks again though! -🃏

✦ you're welcome!! im happy to have been able to make something for a character who is so important to you, and i completely understand loving something very much while still being unhappy with how it handled certain things. wishing you a wonderful day!!

whats dororo?
Oh, man, where do I begin? (I'll try to keep this spoiler-free)
When I refer to Dororo, I usually refer to the 2019 anime adaptation. There was also an animated adaptation released in 1969, and both are based off of a manga published in the late 1960s. The 2019 version is available to watch on prime video, and it's only 24 episodes long, so it's very easy to get through. The first time I watched it, I binged the whole thing over the course of a single night, and if you know me, you know that that's something that I NEVER do. I stayed up until the early hours of the morning to finish this show. If I had to choose just one show to watch for the rest of my life, it would be Dororo (2019).
(WAIT IT'S AVAILABLE ON BLU-RAY NOW???)
(Edit: Somebody also put the whole thing on youtube)
It's hilarious. It's heartbreaking. The aesthetics are incredible, the fight scenes are great, and the quiet moments show their importance. A single episode can make me both laugh and cry. It's also vehemently anti-war, and a large part of this show focuses on ordinary people who are just trying to live despite the conflict around themselves. I also think it introduces just the right amount of fantasy; despite the magical aspects, the world always feels very real.
The only disappointing moment I can think of is the last five minutes or so of the final episode, but I've heard that the ending isn't necessarily canon to the manga, so???
Onto the two main characters:
Dororo
Tumblr media
Most of Dororo's backstory is revealed throughout the series, so I won't go into it here, but essentially, he's a young trans boy that uses thievery to survive. In the first episode, he is saved by Hyakkimaru and confidently slots himself into the role of Hyakkimaru's younger brother.
Hyakkimaru
Tumblr media
Long story short, Hyakkimaru's father made a deal with a bunch of demons wherein the demons could eat his firstborn, and in exchange, his father's land would see prosperous times. One of the demons failed, so though Hyakkimaru was born a husk, he was born alive. After being abandoned, he's found by a prosthetist. His face? A mask. His limbs? Prosthetics. His ears, nose, and eyes? All decorative. He has a fake spine and no senses except for maybe taste. Eventually, he figures out that if he kills demons, he can regain the parts of his body that the demons stole. There's a flipside, but it's a spoiler.
At first glance, this sounds like a story of disability being cured, and there is an aspect of that, but Hyakkimaru's new sensory experiences tend to lead to setbacks and challenges (as he has to learn to experience the world in a whole new way), though again, I don't want to get into any spoilers.
His story is moreso about revenge and justice, and though the show brings up a lot of moral questions, it never passes any moral judgements. I find it absolutely fascinating.
not to mention, Hyakkimaru is a gender envy icon
If you're getting into Dororo for the first time, be prepared for some disturbing imagery in the first few episodes. Iirc it's rated 18+, so some of the themes are VERY mature and the episodes aren't afraid to show some gore. When swept up in the charm of the main characters, found family, and exploration of trauma, it's easy to forget that this is also a war story.
Hope this helps!
