GYM LEADER THOUGHTS PT. 3

VALERIE

Yes, I'm still mad that the first episode within Laverre (that even has Serena's face in the title card sequence for JP version) didn't have Serena vs Valerie. It was perfect. It was cool. For once Serena knew about the Gym Leader before everyone and just happened to not tell them until they were already there. But enough about Serena and more about the star of this show.

Honestly I wish we got more of Valerie as a whole. She's a lady from Johto who decided to stick around Kalos and set up shop here as a fashion designer (which looks to be a pretty lucarative buisiness if all of those crowds and hearsay mean something). She looks as light and drifty as a feather, but also can come down as hard as a mallet.

(ngl every sylveon encounter sans serena's one scares me in the anime, why are they Like That)

It really is a testament to how much she truly understands her Pokemon to be able to make full use of their abilities, like Sylveon's feelers or utilizing Trick Room to boost Spritzee's speed (in which, hey, why is its speed stat so low fr??), and I love how much that connects with her keen eye for Pokemon-styled fashion and her love for Pokemon overall.

The very fact that one of her most leading desires, if not the most leading desire, is that she wants to be a Pokemon as well/becoming one with them is amazing as it is, thematically and from a characterisation standpoint. That's the reason why she designs her clothes the way they are-- to mimic the Pokemon to a T and hopefully transfer that feeling and replicate the effect. It's such an interesting goal in Kalos itself: where people and Pokemon bonding together can cause the rise of the local phenomenon, where we have previously learnt a lesson with Korrina about the roles in a battle, where we are at the third quarter of the journey to the Kalos League. It feels almost late, except that I feel like it's more of a late AND early 'concept' as it is.

Late as in we've already delved into the roles of people and Pokemon, and how each of them fufill their own roles in battle and have their own strengths/weaknesses, covering each other up through trust and love (basically the whole basis of Mega Evolution). But in a way, isn't Valerie already following that principle by talking to Sylveon pre-battle, telling the Pokemon what to do, keeping focused on what Ash is calling out or is possibly planning?? (but also seriously, major parallels to Ramos talking with Gogoat in battle and satisfying its bloodlust lol)

And early when we think about Ash-Greninja; wasn't Ash, in that state, becoming Greninja? Weren't they merging, becoming one, beyond one? And didn't they viscerally need that connection? And didn't they understand each other beyond words? And didn't Greninja adopt Ash's look and Ash adopt Greninja's stance, a physcial reminder of their bond?

(c'mon let me have this gif... at least it looked nice here and actually showed the whole similarities to mega evo in a way that even i can tell...)

The fact that her designs are based on Pokemon are also what she views as 'true beauty' 'inspired by nature itself' (subs surprised me by giving her a rural accent lol), which ALSO links a lot to the upcoming Team Flare arc (well... whatever part of the arc we got) (look, all we got was a rushed rant about beauty and sharing for two eps in terms of 'themes' and it still gets me :c) with their own perceptions of beauty. In a way it's fitting that we get this in the Fairy Gym, where beauty is expected and sort of standardised, especially since Valerie is a designer. She has to make beautiful clothes, so she can sell them to enough people and get enough hype to start the next collection.

But beauty is in the eye of the beholder, right? And I like how Fairy Type Pokemon in and of themselves aren't conventionally 'attractive' or y'know, the common image of fairies themselves. We've got the Marill line, Snubbull line, the Mimes; Pokemon like Klefki and even Xerneas, Life itself. What all connects them is that idea of mystique and wonder (and lots of pink, Opal was right heh) and glamour, that is, not everything appearing as it really is. While I like the direction of Valerie designing famous fashionware, it would've been amazing to see some of that 'glamour' at its true form, beyond her slightly feral Gym Leader personality (no seriously why are Kalos Gym Leaders like that)-- maybe she adopts some of Bill's (from Kanto, y'know, the lighthouse guy) philosophy and acts as a Pokemon to really get a feel for their skin since her clothes are designed for battle. Maybe she forgoes speaking some days and surrounds herself with her Pokemon to get that purest essence of them. Maybe she gets challengers to indulge some 'connection' time with their Pokemon too, in a similar way of how Ramos got Ash to try out tea and gardening before the Gym Battle. Or maybe she designs some clothes off challengers Pokemon lol. Idk just give us more unhinged Valerie and I'm yours, people.

OLYMPIA

Psychic-Type Gym Leaders are unusally busted in the anime (re: whatever Sabrina is on in OG/S1), but I find it so cool that Olympia can actually see the future. Not only it works so well with the Kalos themes of Life and Death and even Order, but also just the whole idea of her going out of her way to protect Kalos with this gift as well as guiding other trainers to also harness their Psychic powers.

Her apprentice, Charlene, describes this power as being led by the voice of the stars, which makes it feel like this outer force that has been determined long before anyone was around-- with the fact that the light of stars reaches Earth after travelling for millions of years, echoes of the past appearing before us today. I feel like this is especially poigant with (presumably) her duplicate ancestor in 'The Legend of X, Y and Z' Olympica, who literally looks just like her and even managed to survive the whole Yveltal Oblivion Wing buisness. I mean, we have no proof that she isn't the same person, but also just the fact that they both have predicted the rise of a Legendary and a person who follows it is pretty neat imo.

I really do want to talk about the fact that she used her powers to protect Kalos from the TSME incident regarding Kyogre and Groudon, though; because honestly, we don't really get to see the actual effects of Legendary clashes and that's one thing I like about XY, that they at least think about that (even though we just got a side mention of it here).

Beyond the fact that it's Sycamore who brings it up (hi bro, how's Lysandre and Alain doing heh), I find it interesting that most of her visions regard what the Legendary Pokemon are doing. Which makes sense in a way, because they are the major movers in the Pokemon world-- most plots, human-caused or otherwise, usually involve them. And the fact that Charlene talks about having to decipher what Olympia's current predictions means to figure out their scale and significance really shows that it's not only the work of Olympia to save everyone, but something that the whole city/the Psychic Trainers take part in. Something something teamwork makes the dream work something.

On top of that, the way that they 'took all possible countermeasures' in Kalos to prevent any casualties or negative effects really speaks to the peace that the Kalos region truly enjoys, and how that banks on Olympia's predictions and the analysis of Anistar City residents. Because all Kalosian are protected from threats like these, I feel like that really softened them up in a way. Hoenn over here has dealt with Groudon and Kyogre at least twice in Ash's run, while Kalos has, up to this point (anime-wise) only had that Jan problem with the XY special, since there is no indication of the Pokemon War having happened. And maybe that factors towards Lysandre believing that he has a right to cull the world as he sees fit with Legendaries, because there hasn't been anything like this before, and maybe that leads to the reduced amount of participants in the League, and maybe that is something that Alain reflects when he compares his past self to his present self (hardened by circumstances beyond his control).

And maybe the way that Olympia goes through this visions is her own way of doing what's right, even if it means coddling them, even if it means holding their hand with the Psychic Trainers getting guided through a meditation session (which leads to Carrie getting 'carried' away with her own views on the future), because only she can truly see the visions and in a way, she's always going to be a little biased. Being a Leader (in more ways than one) would probably mean for her that she has to make the hard decisions, especially since the bulk of the predictions falls onto her to view and describe them. I know that she comes around with Charlene to admonish Carrie but imo the way that it's a 'habit' speaks a lot as to how long this has been going on, and honestly I just like imagining the great oracle being a mother hen and wanting to protect everyone no matter the cost. Also also I wish her predictions made more sense sometimes ('deep green eyes' 'green fire' girl it's clearly red fire and the only thing green is Squishy's body, not his eyes) (ik I'm not supposed to take it literally but also it's not just me, right?? it could've been cooler) and also because she relies so much on 'seeing' past and future, I'm having her in the AU have a blindfold on so she can focus 100% on her visions (which can be shown as pinpricks of light/ 'stars' that she views in the darkness of the blindfold) with her Meowstic and Charlene guiding her in the physical world. Look, I'm just having fun with this AU lol :P

WULFRIC

We know him, we hopefully love him: the guy who ended Ash's relentless winning streak against all of the other Gym Leaders and who indirectly forced him to self-reflect and reconnect with Greninja (no matter how quick that reconnection was :/). Wulfric to me is such a mixed bag in the way that we don't get to see as much of him as the others, even though in-games we initially meet him in the Pokemon Village and see how much he cares about other Pokemon, looking after all of these wild ones and even asking us to check around.

Strictly talking about anime though, he's definitely a character. After spending the better part of a season getting to his Gym, he absolutely wipes the floor with Ash. And I find it interesting that it's not the first match but in the rematch that he whips out Mega Evolution, especially since (a) no other Gym Leader in any continuity, I believe, uses that except Korrina and (b) he actually and actively makes the rematch harder right in front of Ash's eyes and goads him into doing his best against his Abomasnow. Just straight-up chills lol. Can't say that he isn't testing Ash for all he's worth. And his quote, ugh /pos!!!

(yes his anime line is the same as the games, that's just Gym Leaders at this point lol)

Going through the in-game quotes, it really seems that he's an honest guy (to a fault) who likes to state things as they are, no matter how hard or soft it may come off as (which is very much shown in anime, even with the little screentime). He's unrelenting, hard-headed, and as inflexible as ice + numerous other faults that he's glad to list lol. But he's also got a family and he keeps a picture of them in his locket (get away, anime) and is glad to have supportive friends and if that isn't the true depth and duality of this man then idk what is heh (old man opposite of Ramos over here with the fluidity of man instead lol).

And honestly? I think these traits are such good ones to come across for the last Gym, for Ash and for us. That you can survive life being stubborn and unrelenting, and you can also be as fluid as water, and each of these ways have their own strengths and weaknesses. And it is about covering for those weaknesses and leaning to those strengths that make all the difference-- No, rather it is through the bond you make, with both people and Pokemon, that allows for the covering of your faults and the boost to your own strength.

As any self-respecting XY AU will do /j, I'm obviously going to linger on Snowbelle and the effects that it has on everybody. We desperately needed more of Wulfric as a whole, not only as a Gym Leader but as... well... himself. For a Gym at such a pivotal moment of Ash's (and everyone else's) journey, we should be getting oodles out of him. And the games literally gives us an option with the Pokemon Village!! Like imagine Ash and Greninja facing such a place, a place where Wulfric said was filled with Pokemon that were abandoned or too strong for their own good (isn't that what Greninja was, so long ago?). Or just Ash finding out that Wulfric has a life outside of the Gym a la Brawly style in Hoenn, realising that battling isn't everything. That this super strong Gym Leader that is demolishing his team isn't even training non-stop like he has been (can you tell how many times I wish Ash got that reminder in XY???). At this point of time where Ash is distancing himself from his friends and they can't do anything, where Sawyer has surpassed his idol and Serena is disillusioned, shouldn't Wulfric, in all of his stubborn and woman-respecting (no seriously, have you seen his face when Ash handed Serena his jacket the first time they battled?? also family of girls and His Wife) glory be the one to show Ash the way?? Not in words, I don't feel like he's the type of guy to wax poetry or lecture him on some grand moral. But in actions. In just being himself.

CRISIS TIME (OKAY ❤️ YAY ❤️)

Honestly there isn't much to say about the Gym Leaders together, except that it was very sudden lol. We don't get much chemistry out of them beyond the very obvious Grant + Viola (hey guys), but there is the fact that they decided to come together at Lumiose together, and before that, watch the whole Lysandre talk (which meant that they were definitely paying attention for the League). Does it make much sense?? Not really, especially since... Umm... where are they watching this again??

Yeah. Fun places to watch. Don't fall off a cliff, Grant. And also cool 5G network you got there, Olympia, must be nice to pirate channels like that.

But I do like the fact that they all came to work together rather than just them all doing their seperate things. It must've been hard with all of their differing personalities and battling styles, but they were stronger for it, working towards that one goal together: stopping the Megalith.

Valerie pulling out Spritzee with Moonblast, Korrina running ahead with Mega Lucario and Bone Rush, Ramos paving a way with Grass Knot and such powerful words:

(even though once again, please, we need more work on Ash for this to be applicable... but yes, for once, he can't afford to look back, he has to keep going, this is the price of strength - that it's only you who can handle the burden at the very end)

Viola freeing them from the vines and getting one-shotted herself, Grant building his own wall for them to climb before seeing what happened to her and jumping to save her anyways, because they care. Wulfric stopping the vines coming in from behind them, because he cares. Because they all care-- Malva going ahead to clear the way besides Diantha, Sycamore, Clemont and yes, even *suppresses laughter* Blaziken Mask. Olympia somehow surviving all of this to blast off a few Future Sight attacks. And even afterwards with the Lysandre Rock (yes, I'm calling it that), the way that they all collaborated together (Valerie calling out Light Screen/acts as Protect against the first attack, Clemont directing everyone to the device on Lysandre's arm as an attack point, the way they kept attacking and believing and trusting that this will do it, that they will stop it, that all their efforts aren't for naught, a force so strong it tided Zygarde over to fight for their side--). All of this is the accumulation of them, deep down, deciding that they love this world as it is and will do anything for it. Will protect it, will fight for it, will even sacrifice themselves for it. As Ash aptly says:

And even though we never get any time for the Gym Leaders to, y'know, actually talk to each other, I can't say that it was nothing. Because taking down the Megalith? It was a team effort, and actually needed some sort of collaboration and mutual understanding to fight it the way they did. Even if we do go with the assumption that none of them know each other beyond strictly canon, well, you can't say they didn't make memories together.

Of course the Crisis had more than them and I can go into that, but since we're going about the Gym Leaders here we're sticking with it. But man, for a big event that had somewhat patchy leadup, you have to admit it was flashy. Not going to spoil for the AU, but basically you can catch some of my drift here lol, and honestly, feel free to drop your suggestions (everyone!!). Because while it was okay, I honestly, truly, believe that the Kalos Crisis and everything before it could've been oodles more better and fleshed out while retaining that dramatic effect.

and the way it completely flips the little power dynamic they had going on. because whether desmond likes it or not, whether he wants it or not, lucy's life is now completely at his mercy. one wrong word and. well. they're called assassins for a reason. and while i think there's multiple stories in the series of assassins becoming templars, there's basically none about templars becoming assassins (or assassins again) which tells you about all you need to know about how willing they'd be to let a "traitor" back into their little gang.

and that's just got to feel terrible, right? especially now that desmond knows. if he can just read between the lines of what lucy has told him about vidic from her perspective, what clay has shown him about how she was turned. terrible awful moment of realizing that it's playing out all over again; only now lucy owes her life to him for not giving her over to the assassins. i don't think desmond would like that at all.

and like. to me there is zero question that part of the reason lucy latched onto desmond more than she was probably supposed to according to the whole templar double-agent plan was that he was someone she had a modicum of control over. she was very much in control of the flow of information to him, he owed her for getting him out of abstergo, and in all likelihood, she probably intended to protect him from them as best he could (a track record which does not reflect well on her! considering what happened to clay! but i really do think she intended to.)

so, that is gone. not only is that gone, but her world's been up-ended, again. she's not a quite a templar, not quite an assassin, and oh, right, the sun is still going to explode, and they barely know how they're going to stop it. desmond was in a coma for who knows how long, and now he looks at her different. he knows. and now they're all going to be in close proximity with his dad and her mentor who will not risk the whole world for either of them, shaun's still being twitchy about 'what if desmond was a templar spy' with no idea how close and how far off that assumption is, and there's also that fucking alien isu ghost lady who tried to kill her through desmond! not a fun time for lucy, all things considered.

and like despite that, i think the old dynamic they had still remains. desmond relies on lucy. she's now proven that she's a completely unreliable anchor to reality, but still, she's the one he's got. they started this animus shit together; they're gonna finish it together. lucy is still trying to pull the incredible balancing act of pushing desmond far enough to get what they need without breaking him entirely, something that's getting harder and harder by the day because like. three. well, no, four, huh. haytham, too. so four memory dives in, there's... if not damage, then a disconnect. between desmond and reality. that can't be undone, only managed.

everything that happens already leaves their little team so isolated from the outside world, but alsjdlksa i fucking love the idea of lucy & desmond being even isolated from the other assassins. terrible secret gang.

things I wish I could relive for the first time again:

that magical window where you finish a new piece of media, having watched/read it all by yourself with no fandom contact whatsoever, and you are just so happy about it, and full of interesting theories and takeaways, and just in love with it as a gorgeous piece of art.

because I swear to god as soon as you join the fandom for anything, you're bombarded with how you're supposed to view characters and their arcs, how you're supposed to morally and ethically judge the plot and the ways it apparently failed to present the right message, and if you don't you'll either be shunned for not sharing the popular headcanons or you'll be harassed for not criticizing the source material enough.

like how is it that the fans of a piece of media are also the ones being the most negative about it? If I like a show or a movie or a book, well, I liked it. That's kind of the point. I'm actually not here to tear it apart and talk about how it didn't live up to standards other people had! I enjoyed it for what it was, and forcing myself to find negative things to say about it doesn't actually bring me more enjoyment of it or reap any benefit to me. Fandom's a double-edged sword; you want to join a community to share your love for a piece of art, and the price you pay for a modicum of joy is a mountain of negativity. that's one main reason that I never engage with fandom until I'm completely done with a show, because if I was plugged into all of that commentary and discourse during the process, I'd be completely colored by how I'm expected to interpret everything this piece of art is presenting to me without being able to even form my own opinions.

"Gil," the Ice Queen chided as his lips moved from her cheek towards her neck. Usually her hair sat in his way, but she had twisted it up at the back of her head for the rare occasion.

"What?" he whispered directly against her skin, inhaling as if she were his favourite delicacy.

"We're nearly there," she pushed faintly against his chest. Perhaps it was her own fault for allowing herself to be swayed into sitting in his lap in the back of the limo. Maybe she too was riding the high of their nuptial elation.

"Nearly," he asserted, nuzzling the base of her neck and trailing his fingers down the area of her back her dress exposed. "I like this thing."

Thena tittered faintly as his touch both tickled and soothed. "You picked it out--I imagine you do."

"I like everything you wear," he somewhat corrected her statement as his hand moved from her shoulder to her thigh. He didn't grip strong enough to leave a mark, but he traced where the hem of her dress met her knife holster.

"Leave it," she told him mildly. "We don't have time."

The Tyrant King pulled away and pouted at her.

She laughed. He just looked so uncharacteristically jilted when he used that face--like a dog teased with a treat only for it to disappear on him. She cupped his cheeks, "or do you wish to be interrupted in the midst of things?"

He pursed his lips - just like she did - emphasizing the sharp peaks of his cupid's bow. "Would you really leave in the middle of things?"

Well, no, she would be just as eager and willing to finish. But that was not the point. She shook her head and kissed him again. "It's bad decorum to be late to your own reception, Gilgamesh. Especially appearing mussed and reeking of sex."

He grinned like a fiend, leaning in to kiss her more passionately again. The kind of kiss that made her have to gasp in air upon surfacing, as if she were drowning in him. "But you never look more beautiful than when you're all messy and smell like me."

"Of course you would think that," she murmured, although if she were being completely honest, smelling like him was not strictly something she despised.

Gil leaned back against the seat again, toying with some of the strands of blonde dancing around her face, curling up around the sharp line of her jaw. He lazily twirled one around his finger. "Can't a man simp over his new wife?"

Thena shook her head at him again, only because her smile was far too extreme to control. Even then, her body betrayed her, leaning into his embrace again. She pressed her nose into the shoulder of his - rather fetching, actually - light checked suit. "Are you not the one who has insisted all this time that we have been married for years?"

He chuckled again, his hand running down her back to the bow of her dress at its smallest part. He slipped his hand under the knot, claiming that particular spot as his own territory. "You're right. You've been my wife for a long time, Ice."

What a romantic, her Tyrant.

He had told her so, all this time. And he included it when they were in Korea, and in Russia as well. Gil always made it clear that she was the woman for him.

Imo knew, of course. She had overseen their business in Korea. Gil still hadn't told her all that Imo said to him, but apparently it was laden with compliments for her and lecturing him to be a good husband and cook for her and not skip on helping clean at home.

Thena hired cleaners for that (she wasn't good at remembering to clean either). She did tell Imo that he always took care of the dishwasher and made sure their laundry was sorted for their cleaning service and took care of the grocery deliveries.

Gil was right, they had been married in all the ways it mattered for quite some time.

But now they had two pieces of paper to certify that. Three, actually; that was what the party here was to inaugurate--their third marriage certificate.

It was just a piece of paper. There was no reason it should feel different, she had always said--always insisted. But then something had felt different. She had woken one morning, looked at Gil in bed beside her. That was all it was; even when he asked she didn't have a better explanation for him than that.

They were in Korea already for business, why not get married? That was all she had said. And he had no questions or concerns. He immediately kissed her and told her he would call Imo and arrange everything.

And then why not stop by Russia on their way home?

Gil still had no way of knowing who of her associates in Russia were actually old 'contacts', as it were. His Russian was rusty, and his accent when speaking often caused miscommunication.

She did all of the talking for him. Especially when her excommunicated family contacts happily informed them that marriage was not for the feint of heart, and if any trouble happened, they wouldn't be receiving help. They would instead be coming to cut off the fingers with their wedding rings thereupon. She had happily told each and every one of them to go to hell and she wouldn't be allowing that.

Gil had happily just nodded and said 'da' most of the night. Such a good boy.

Thena kissed him again, laying her arms on the solid width of his shoulders. Their lips parted as if it was torturous, like each kiss felt like the last and they were desperate for more.

"As far as I'm concerned," Gilgamesh brought up his last train of thought again. "You've always been the one for me, babe."

Thena gave him her driest, most icy glare.

The Tyrant King didn't even flinch. "From the first time we made love. Maybe even before, really."

Thena rolled her eyes at that. She could no longer deny that even when they were having purely carnal trysts with each other, perhaps there had always been a layer of feeling to it that she had always tried to deny. "Always?--truly, Gilgamesh?"

He softened, though, bowing his head to her to all but hide against her exposed clavicle. "Always, Princess, even if I wasn't always the best at showing you that."

Thena ran her fingers through the hair on the back of his head. Even now, long after the fact - long even after his shooting incident - he carried the remorse about the Little Heiress deep in him. She had long forgiven him, even if she once thought that she never, ever would. But it was Gil who had never forgiven himself for it. "Gil-"

He turned his face into the hollow of her throat, wrapping both arms tightly around her waist. "You're my one and only, Thena. I don't need some paper to prove that to anyone."

Thena let him cling to her, only because it was to help him feel better about it. She pressed her cheek to his hair. "All is said and done, Muzh. You know I've forgiven it."

He said nothing about whether he could join her in her forgiveness. But he pulled his head up again, kissing her cheek. "Y'know her family contacted Imo?"

"What?!" Thena actually squawked, forgetting her usual comportment and gripping Gil's shoulders. She all but shook him. "When--how?!"

He laughed faintly, letting her rattle him over it. "I was shocked, too. And I'm sure Imo absolutely let 'em have it for having the audacity to speak with her directly."

Thena could only imagine. She had never truly been on the receiving end of real, unmitigated fury from Imo. And she never wanted to be. The small, 149cm (4'11") crime mogul was her one and only true fear in this world. She also loved her dearly.

"She told them that they had no right asking about her son's marriage," Gil chuckled, obviously proud to state that his aunt was still the terrifying mother figure he had always known, and that telling people to mind their own was still her specialty.

"Leave it to Imo," Thena mused with a smile of her own. She would have liked to see what kind of fear Imo could strike into the Little Heiress' family. Sometimes she wondered how the nine-fingered brat was faring. She had been the last time she had practiced the tradition of those in the business from her home country.

Gil gazed at her, his thoughts shifting. "You looked beautiful."

Thena's gaze shied away from his. "You always say that."

He traced his lips along her cheek, though. "Doesn't make it any less true. I think Imo was secretly really happy you wanted to wear it."

Thena had never worn a hanbok before. "It was truly stunning. And I consider myself lucky to have worn something made by a textile master like Imo."

Gil had burst into tears as soon as he saw her in it. Her sweet, romantic, sentimental Tyrant. She'd had to hold back her own tears purely in reaction to him.

Russia had far less pomp and circumstance. She had introduced Gil to a few people, not as a boyfriend but as a husband. She had worn a dress she already had with her, although using her lace as a veil was a tradition Gil thought was just a cute idea she'd had the day of.

"My blushing bride."

She huffed and pinched his side. He did not have to bring it up.

"We could make a thing of it," he suggested with renewed glee. "Get remarried every year?"

Thena laughed, letting him pepper kisses along whatever part of her he could reach. "You mean renew our vows, I believe. And that sounds like far too much upkeep for us."

She was right. They had businesses to run. Business was the primary point of their trips; marriage had been a - very, very - happy addition to the itinerary.

"Fine," Gil feigned a long, deep sigh. Before, of course, giving her a devillish grin again. "I'll settle for going on a honeymoon every year."

"You certainly have your priorities," she drawled. She meant it as an indictment of his lack of self control when it came to matters of the flesh. She refused to acknowledge that she was hardly better in matters like those.

"Damn right I do," Gil growled, using his renewed vigour to grasp at her with his bear paws. "I've got the most beautiful woman in the world as my wife, why wouldn't I want all the alone time with her I can get?"

"We have had nothing but alone time since returning home," she reminded him, still determined to arrive in a presentable state (making out aside).

It wasn't even upon their return home. The plane ride back from the other side of the globe was long, and they'd had plenty of time to...celebrate. And in the car home. And then for the three days at home before arranging this reception, as it were.

She was walking fine, but the insides of her thighs were showing signs of redness from the frequency with which Gilgamesh...attended to her.

"Enough is never enough of you, Ice."

Thena kissed him one last time. Their lips fit together and their tongues stole what time they could, weaving in a most ungraced way. She allowed it, though, tasting the coffee on his tongue. It had been a whirlwind of a month, from start to finish.

Perhaps they could take a vacation next year, whether they called it a second honeymoon or not.

The limo came to a stop, and Gil adjusted her on his lap. His fingers dragged down the line of her thigh muscles. She could hear him grinning. "We're here, Sweetness-unless you'd like to continue."

She gave his chest a light smack. "Very funny."

"Fine, fine," he sighed, letting her slither off him. He turned in the seat, following her out.

Thena paused, half in the car and half out of it. She leaned back in to him. His knees parted, letting her rest her weight on the seat to kiss him. His hand so naturally came up and spread out over her back, sealing his skin to hers at any opportunity. Her body breathed a sigh of relief, unnaturally happy just to have him close.

Gil blinked, the dazed one - for once - as she pulled away.

She swiped at her lips to make sure her lip tint was still in place, then at his to make sure not too much lingered on him. "Shall we?"

Gil chuckled, leaving one last kiss on her hand before it escaped him. "After you, Dear."

"Darling," she humoured him, pulling his hand out of the car with her. He smacked the door closed, letting his hand land on her thigh again. She almost told him to behave himself.

"Hey," he barked, half serious and half joking. "Get that camera off my wife's legs."

Druig winked at them, promising to send them the picture he had just snapped of their newlywed nonsense. Knowing Gil, he would make it his new phone background (much to her mortification).

Ajak was at the front of the crowd waiting for them to arrive. She raised her champagne to them. "To the happy couple!"

Those invited cheered for them. Thena pushed against Gil, as if she could disappear inside of him until all the extra attention had drained away. He held her to him, happy to absorb the well wishes for her.

Ajak took a sip of her drink before feeling the need to add, "at least you never fucked each other in my office."

Truly the most evil of all the crime lords in this city.

Is Johnny capable of losing to things that isn't a competition? If Johnny were put into a boxing match with MC and he hypothetically was less skilled and physically weaker than MC. Would Johnny still some how win.

Alright, Anon, so you're not the one I'm mostly talking about. You're fine and just asking about Johnny. But I'm getting a lot of asks about Johnny (some just rude) and just to put some minds at ease I'll tell you how his powers work. Not really spoilers at all but I'm putting it under in case someone doesn't want to see.

If it's a competition he'll win. I'd like everyone to just read that before we continue. Those are the only rules to his powers. If you compete in anything against Johnny. You will lose. No ifs ands or buts about it. If the universe has to give you a heart attack and kill you to do it then it will. That being said I'm absolutely sure you can think of about a billion ways to get around that or use that against him. "Winner has to pay for dinner." or "I bet I can jump into that spike pit quicker than you can." type of deal (of course he needs to agree. but he's competitive to a fault so I can see him agreeing to anything if you word it well enough.) I'm doing my absolute best to avoid spoilers so i'm not giving any examples that will actually happen in the story.

This is why he's like 99% just in Dame's romance. Dame feels like they're only useful to be an object, or in other words a prize. Johnny wins all prizes. Do not think of Dame as a prize and you'll """"beat"""" Johnny. (Love isn't a competition.)

comic fans aren’t saying that we hate the fact that cherik are in the mcu we just hate how badly it’s going to affect the comics (and how it’s CURRENTLY affecting the comics) Charles and erik’s relationship is one of the staples of x men and they’re literally ruining it before our eyes since they’re bringing them to the mcu, and let’s be honest the comics are 10x more important for these characters then the movies (changes in the comics can change how the characters are portrayed in the movies so who knows maybe they’ll bring lilandra to doomsday to fight off the cherik gay stuff like what happened to the fox movies ahem ahem charles and moira stuff) It’s not only affecting cheriks dynamic and relationship ofc but also the other characters and where the storyline of the modern comics is heading!! so much regression has been going on!! the comics have been backpedaling into old storylines that we’ve heard thousands of times to appeal to the movie watchers + 97 fans.
