Spent today starting to convert my Spotify library to Bandcamp/iTunes and a free media player app on my phone. It's an overdue change, though I'm struggling a bit with like, am I going to listen to this song enough? But whatever. I also downloaded my SPG CDs to my computer and got what I wanted onto my phone.

And I watched Nimona on YouTube. It was pretty much exactly what I expected, which isn't to say it's bad. Maybe I would've been surprised by more of it if it hadn't been so all over the place on Tumblr. I will say that in being exactly what I expected, I enjoyed it more than like, that latest Puss in Boots movie everyone was raving about.

Also I'm on the very last piece of work for my askblog. I'm not sold on the quality of the writing in it, I think it could be better, but I got a few more days before my promised deadline. At the same time, I'm piecing together a List of Goals for FBS, split into things I want to accomplish and things I want to consciously avoid. Gosh, and I still gotta write the writblr intro. I guess I gotta go look at a couple blogs to get the idea of what that should look like.

If he was 36 in 2003, that means he was born in 1967, the year she put out her first album. He grew up in Texas in prime Dolly time. I imagine his mother loved her and danced to her music in the kitchen and would periodically sing the songs to Joel and Tommy. There's no doubt in my mind that he not only loves Dolly's music, but had a bit of a crush on her too.

I can totally see the similarities to Joshua. The gruff man who keeps to himself. The woman who's lonely. Falling in love over time out beyond town. <3

I wouldn't call myself a fan of Dolly. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE her with big heart thumps. I only relinquish the title because I know there are people that know her music a heck of a lot better than me. I didn't grow up listening to that much country, but I truly do appreciate her and Patsy Cline and Hank Williams and Johnny Cash...

I will say that I am a fan of her heart; I love her as a human being, that I think she's tremendously generous and genuine, talented and fkn brilliant, charitable and a living saint in her true ways of loving everyone. She is, without a doubt or hyperbole, one of the very best humans presently walking the earth; truly exemplary. And while I don't seek it out, I very much enjoy listening to her music when I come across it. There was a Target ad a few years back that used one of her songs and I listened to it on loop forever and needed it in my library because it made me so happy. Dolly will always always bring a smile to my face.

You know you deserve it. 😉 - oh no, my one weakness. i think i do a good job establishing character voice and getting into the heads of individual characters - i put a lot of thought into that kind of close 3rd person pov and try to really consider how any individual would view the people around them and situations they're in and how it would be different for others, and i think i do a good job.

omg okay the ending i got was the sun!! i don’t think it’s a major spoiler to say that the way to get that ending is ask rogue for help and choose v instead of johnny at the end. i think you should replay the ending real quick just to see the sun ending too, unless you’d rather do another full play through for it. won’t say anything else about it other than its worth it!!

siding with arasaka feels so wrong considering they’re who you’re fighting against the entire game. i played the corpo path and it still wouldn’t have made sense, it seems they’re all set up so siding with arasaka seems like the wrong choice.

i pretty much had the same experience with the ending, at first i was scared of dying because i read there’s one ending where you only get one shot but i wasn’t sure if it was all or not, so i was nervous. but it’s just one ending and the rest you get checkpoints, so i was fine! i cried all through the credits, i was really heartbroken and guilty over choosing v

i haven’t read neuromancer but i placed a hold for it on my library app!! the cyberspace is one of my absolute favorite things about that game, it’s one of the things i’m looking forward to seeing again when i replay. i really want more on alt, she was one of my favorite characters in the entire game. if they could make a game about her, i would play it.

i’ve read about the pl ending they added but haven’t played it, so im excited to see your reaction to it!! i loved johnny’s character growth through the story, it’s so fun talking to him. i loved when he popped up randomly and gave advice on side missions, always sided with him bc i wanted him to like me. i think i’m gonna be boy v on my next playthrough so i’m interested to see what dialogue options change with him and how they interact vs with girl v.

i love that they had a real band playing samurai, it added a bit of depth to the game. and grimes as lizzy, that was really fun. i wanted more music in cyberpunk so i was always listening to cyberpunk playlists on spotify and found out about refused that way bc they have samurais music on spotify!

i am kinda curious to do the arasaka ending at some point just to see whether there's any kind of like...material difference in the outcomes, because you're right that it does feel like such an unappealing choice to make even if you're on the corpo lifepath?? there was just no point in the game where i started feeling any kind of empathy towards them or wanting to side with them and that felt deliberately done, so yeah, curious to see if there's some sort of completely different ending pathway for choosing that option.

thoughts on PL so far: i'm only on the third storyline quest so pretty early on so far but i really like that it's got such a focus on stealth and kind of puzzle elements with all the climbing etc, it kinda reminds me a bit of portal compared to half-life if that makes sense (and if those references aren't so hopelesly outdated that you have no idea what i'm referring to lmao)

My music production process

Step 1: the idea

Inspiration usually stems from listening to artists I really like (Listed in the likes of my profiles). It can be a riff, a whole section or a line of lyrics. The first step is to lay down this one section, the tone of the song and the lyrics (if any). If I write instrumental music, it's usually because I'm bored or want to jam.

The tone can change during the process of course, but I usually stick to the initial idea since it is connected to the lyrics, the messag of the song.

I usually write songs in times of inner turmoil. My lyrics reflect that, they help me to process my emotions and I record the songs when I'm in a better place mentally. I still helps to sometimes scream out what you hide inside yourself. But I got better at voicing my problems and not eating them up over the years. In the same way I got better at writing more happy music.

Step 2: the rhythm

As noted before, I am not proficient with percussion. Nonetheless, my songs too need a reliable rhythm group that isn't just a metronome. That's why I program my drums. This also dictates the structure (which section follows which).

Step 3: Rhythm guitar, riffing

I record my guitar directly through my Lexicon Lambda interface into Garageband's digital amps. I start with the chord progressions and main riffs, then add bass as foundation.

In songs where I don't play guitar (which are an exception) I just arrange loops from the library and maybe program some Midi parts.

Step 4: melodies

Metalcore riffs are usually rather simple. They require good technique to play fast, but on their own they get uninteresting with every repetition. What makes them so interesting are the harmonies, the second voices. I absolutely love how the riffs glow up when combined with a simple transposed version. Of course, solos are important too.

Step 5: vocals

On top of the instruments I record my vocals through a Sennheiser MK4. I usually have two voice tracks, one for melodic lines, second voices and melodic parts and one for screams, spoken or rapped parts. If needed, more tracks of each type can be added.

Step 6: mix

Once everything is recorded, I equialize each individual track. Then I adjust volumes and other automation parameters over the project. That way I add fade-ins and -outs, effects like a reverbed section and layers.

Step 7: master

When everything sounds fine in the mix, I export each individual category to sidechain them. I have 3 to 4 categories: Vocals, guitar and drums. Sometimes, there's effects or strings/synths. I only adjust volumes between the categories and maybe add an overall EQ. In this stage I listen to each category and track on their own and revise sections because either they don't sound good on their own or in the mix. Sounddesign is mainly done through the built-in speakers of my Macbook Pro or my headphones (Marley Positive vibration 2 wireless), but they amplify the bass too much. I sometimes listen back to my songs via my stereo system.

Step 8: let it sit!

After mastering (sidechaining) all the tracks, I export the project, listen to it one last time and - let it sit for at least two days. During this time I listen to other music. Maybe I gain more inspiration or want to try another effect on a section. Then I actually finish and upload the track after a final listen.

The whole process takes between 2 and 20 hours pure work time. But it usually stretches over several weeks from the initial idea to the mastering stage.

For my game music I used a synth I found on fl studio in the Flex synth library

with the preset computer tape. This creates a digital esque sound

Above shows a video I found of someone demonstrating how the synth sounds normally. The track starts off with the synth playin in different keys panning to different sides of the stereo. From there I added quick progression, roomy hi-hats. This adds suspense and intensity to the game. At 30 seconds in I've added a sampled voice that separates the first part to the second part, allowing for a smoother transition. In the second part I've added dancehall drums, paired with the sampled voice. Giving a sort of dubstep-esque to the whole game which goes well with the environment of the game.

Around 45 seconds into the track I decided to add a glitch effect that lasts around 20 seconds. This is to break up the track and to stop it becoming boring or annoying with the same synth and beat playing.

Towards the end the track drops the beat and voice and reverts back to just the synth slowly losing the keys. This is to mimic the start of the song to transition into a seamless loop.

For the track, I didn't use any direct inspiration. Other than making the synth by mistake then following it with drums until it was into what it is now

So, for this project, I did a film score for the Doctor Strangelove trailer! I tried to keep things relatively simplistic to keep things somewhat similar to the original sound and to preserve that old-movie feel, but I also added some extra things to utilize the freedoms of modern technology. The soundtrack itself is simple, it's a jazz drum loop and a synth-ish melody on top of some chords. I tried to keep the vibe mysterious and a little tense to match with the tone of the trailer, but not so tense that you feel uncomfortable watching/listening to it. For the sound effects, I largely relied on Ableton's (admittedly small) sample library, keeping things in line with the immature humor of the film. I cut the trailer off a bit short--I wish I could've added the Doctor Strangelove narration that's in the end, but I wasn't sure if it'd be okay since there's music mixed in there.

My two biggest problems were dealing with Ableton's lackluster support for video, and not knowing/forgetting the BPM of the original track. I had to download 2 video encoders before I was able to get the video working properly... And even then, Ableton wouldn't load it correctly 75% of the time. I guess if I do film scoring again, I'll have to look into working with a different DAW...

Before starting, I have read some articles about how to remix a song on the internet, they said we could mess with the melody, change the chord/BPM etc., but there are no golden elements of a remix, therefore I chose to have a listen of the song first, then just follow my heart in re-creating and composing.

After I listened to Peter Sculthorpe’s piece, Little Passacaglia and read his artistic vision, I thought of a melody that I have heard before on TV that I felt like it’s matched with the feeling of the piece. I remembered that the melody comes from a piece of background music from some TV series, it usually comes out with scenes of sadness, betrayal or people crying, but I couldn't recall completely so I just re-created the music based on my memory and by improvisation.

Then I started to think of the artistic vision of my piece, since the original piece is a response to the terrorist act in Bali, it reflects the grief of families whose loved ones were maimed or killed in the bombing, and it hopes for the island's future, for an end to terrorism and an end to US imperialism. Thus, I want to put part of this piece as the third section of my work and create opening, build-up and ending sections for it.

The first section I think of conveys a feeling of a sunny beach in Bali, with sea and bird sounds, and maybe some human noise and laughter.  The second part will be more intense, which gives the feeling of war. Then it turns to the original piece and the melody I created as an end with a little sadness with a letting go kind of feel.

For the first section, I mainly used sea, bird and beach sound combined with peaceful harp music, I also tried to use the sea wave to create beats. The transition from the first section to the second was the sound of a sea wave turning into a gun sound, which represents the start of the war.

The first problem I encountered was in creating the second section. I want to create music like during a war/combat but I don’t know how to generate that feeling, thus I searched “war music” on YouTube and listened to the instruments used, and I found out that this kind of music is usually rhythmic. But I still don't have an idea of how this kind of melody should be created so I chose a pre-loop from the library and then add drums. I also added the rumbling, crashes and people screaming sounds with echoed and panning.

The third section was the original piano piece, I added some bass and pad to increase the layer of music. Then it turns to the end with the piano melody I created, I also added some bass and strings in this part. I actually tried to add some drums in these parts but I felt like it did not sound good and consistent so I chose to delete them and only used drums in the second part.

(y/n) wished she could tell her soulmate to turn it off, to at least wait for her to finish her homework. She couldn't do that due to only one reason; she didnt know who her soulmate was. It was hard to find yours in a school with hundrends of students and even harder if you were afraid to get disappointed or get your soulmate disappointed. Was her soulmate trying to annoy her or wasn't he sure if he liked the song? She had no idea. In other circumstances she would have enjoyed it,like every other song of her soulmates playlist.

The next time a song intruded her soulmate's playlist, (Y/N) was in her common room talking to a couple of housemates. That time she laughed at his choice and she couldnt stop, the people she was talking to were looking her with a puzzled expression.

"Sorry, my soulmate is listening a song" She apologised,finally serius and ready to continue their conversation

Summary -  After spending the day at Purgatory Hall, you return home to learn that Mammon is missing.

It was Saturday evening and you were on your way home, after spending much of the day, at Purgatory Hall baking sweets with Luke. Since both of you shared a love for baking, it was something you often enjoyed together. And you went to Purgatory Hall to do it because cooking in the kitchen at the House of Lamentation also meant trying to keep 7 very nosey brothers (including 1 very hungry Beel) away long enough for you to finish.

You waved goodbye to Solomon, who had done you the courtesy of escorting you home after dinner, and let yourself inside to find absolute chaos waiting for you. Raised voices could be heard coming from the library area, so you headed there to see what all the fuss was about.

“Hey guys, I’m home.”

“MC!” Levi said, as he rushed over to greet you with a hug.

“Um, Levi? Is everything ok?” It was unusual enough for Levi to initiate any sort of physical contact when you were alone, so being hugged in front of everyone...mostly everyone...struck you as incredibly odd.

“Where’s Mammon?”, you asked, trying to catch a glimpse of Levi’s face as he pulled away. He refused to meet your eyes, and as you scanned the room you realized no one else was looking at you either. Finally Lucifer stepped forward, attempting to explain the situation.

“Apparently there was a bit of a misunderstanding today, and he was accused of stealing something of Levi’s.”

“Oookkkayy...and where is he…?” Mammon being accused of theft wasn’t exactly unusual. Even though he was only ever guilty less than half the time, that didn’t stop everyone from always blaming him whenever pretty much anything went missing.

“He left around lunch and hasn’t come back,” offered Satan.

“Lunch? That’s only 8 hours ago. On a Saturday. That doesn’t really seem like anything to worry about.”

“He may or may not have said that he was fed up with us for never believing him and always ganging up on him,” added Asmodeus, “...and something about never coming back.”

Ah, now things are starting to make more sense , you thought.

“So you all cornered him, accused him of something he didn’t do, he ran off, and then you found out he was actually innocent and now feel guilty because he wasn’t back before I got home? Is that about the gist of it?”, you asked, your anger rising as you watched the 6 men in front of you fidget and shuffle uncomfortably while you waited for a response.

“That would be one way to describe the situation, yes,” answered Lucifer, finally.

You heaved a sigh and pulled your DDD out of your pocket to see that the battery had died sometime earlier that afternoon. You were annoyed with yourself for not noticing sooner. The lack of notifications you received all day should have been a clue, but you had been having so much fun you let yourself carry on without checking in with anyone. You hoped Mammon wasn’t now mad at you too for thinking you had been ignoring him.

“I’m going to charge this and see if I can get a hold of him. The rest of you just stay out of my room. I’m not in the mood,” you said as you walked off.

You really shouldn’t have been surprised by what you heard, but part of you always tried to have faith in the brothers that they would actually learn from their mistakes.

For as long as you had been there, (and as you later learned, long before) Mammon always took the brunt of the blame for anything that went wrong, even when he wasn’t actually responsible or even involved. It was probably one of the first things you noticed when you had arrived here and were introduced to him. After getting to know him though, you realized just how hard he tried to do the right thing and even when he messed up, his heart was usually in the right place. Not to say he never actually did any of the things he was accused of - but more often than not, he was innocent or just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

As you made your way to your room, you hoped that Mammon didn’t actually mean that he would never come back and that it had only been something he had said in the heat of the moment. You knew how sensitive he could be sometimes, and found yourself growing increasingly worried that maybe he did mean it and you wouldn’t get to see him again or even say goodbye properly when it was time for you to return to the human realm.

With those thoughts in mind, you entered your room, only for an arm to shoot out of the darkness and cover your mouth, pinning you to the door as soon as it had closed. You had been about to scream when you heard a familiar voice speaking to you.

“It’s me! Just me! Keep it down, alright?”, Mammon said in a loud whisper, as he tried to keep you restrained until he was sure you were calm. He knew if his brothers heard you, they would come rushing in to check without even knocking, and he really wasn’t ready to deal with them yet.

As soon as you recognized Mammon’s voice, your body relaxed, and you gave him a small nod as you placed your hands on the one held over your mouth to reassure him you weren’t going to scream. He then released you with a sigh, only for you to wrap your arms around his neck and hug him close.

“I was worried about you. I just heard what happened.”

“...I tried to call ya, but you didn’t answer,” he said, wrapping his arms around your waist and returning your hug.

“I’m sorry, my DDD died and I didn’t notice until I got back. I wasn’t ignoring you, I promise.”

Mammon nodded in understanding before letting you go and turning on the lights to your room. You released your grip on him as well, but left your hands resting on his shoulders to keep him near.

“Can you tell me why you’re here? All your brothers think you left.”

“Ummm...well...about that…” he gave a nervous laugh and scratched the back of his neck, “I did leave…jus’ ya know...I couldn’t think of anywhere to go...so I came back.”

“...and hid in my room for the rest of the day?”

He nodded again, offering you a sheepish grin. You laughed and gave him another hug around the neck before taking his hand and leading him to your bed. Something about the fact he thought hiding in your room was “safe” warmed your heart and brought a smile to your face.

“So,” you said, kicking your shoes off and crawling into bed, motioning for Mammon to join you, “do you want to tell me what happened? I already heard their version, so I want to hear yours.”

Mammon blushed at your concern as he laid down beside you, resting his head on your chest and looping an arm around your waist. He hadn’t wanted to admit it, but the real reason he had waited in your room was because he knew you’d eventually come back and cuddle with him like you were doing now. It had taken him some time to get used to just how nice you were to him, but after awhile he started to seek you out just so he could be spoiled...if only a little...and preferably without his brothers around. Though sometimes seeing the looks on their faces as you showered him with praise or affection was worth the minor embarrassment of them watching the whole thing.

“I was just hangin’ out in my room listen’ to music when Levi barged in and started yellin’ at me. Something about some limited edition blah blah blah figurine. Said he bought two of ‘em but now he could only find one,” Mammon explained, while you began to comb your fingers through his hair, “I asked him why he thought it was me and he just said ‘of course it was you! Who else would it have been!’ and like, how does he know that huh? Just because he thinks I’m a scumbag doesn’t mean I steal from him all the time, ya know? Wasn’t even like that figurine was worth that much anyways...and he just goes accusing me without any proof! How is that fair? It ain’t!”

You listened carefully as Mammon vented his frustrations, carding your fingers through his hair in a slow and steady rhythm to help him relax.

“And they always do that ya know? Always accusin’ me without any proof, sayin’ I’m a money grubber and a scumbag and whatever other insult they can think up on the spot. Don’t matter how many times they find out they were wrong, or how many good things I do either. They always blame me when somethin’ goes wrong.”

“So Mammon...can I ask you something?”, you said, giving him a reassuring squeeze with your arms.

“Yeah?”

“Did you take the figurine?”

Mammon stiffened, “...umm...well...that’s not really the point is it? The point is he accused me without proper proof!...ya know…?”

You couldn’t help but laugh at that confession, and hugged him closer to you. The more you thought about it, the more the entire situation seemed ridiculous. From Levi accusing Mammon of something (he was guilty of) without proof to Mammon hiding in your room all day to his brothers downstairs right now feeling guilty over chasing him off. It was just so...funny.

“Hey! Whattya laughin’ for? It ain’t funny!”

“Oh Mammon,” you laughed again as you hugged him tighter and placed a kiss on the top of his head. He never failed to keep things interesting for you, that’s for sure. And even though he was at fault, you knew this was about more than just him getting caught.

“Well, I suppose Levi did still accuse you without proof, and everyone else still ganged up on you, didn’t they? So I guess it’s alright to let them sit with their own guilt a little longer, don’t you think?”

“...maybe a little,” he said, trying to hide his smile.

“And don’t worry, we can figure out how to fix the mess with Levi’s figurine tomorrow. I’ll help you ok? So why don’t we just watch a movie for now and relax some, hmm?”

“No horror movies?”

“No horror movies.”

As Mammon watched you get up to grab your laptop, he thought about how glad he was that even though you learned the truth you were still being supportive. You didn’t lecture him like Lucifer would have, or mock him like Asmo might have. You simply promised to help him figure things out, without judgement.

And he knew he could always count on you to have his back and be there for him, regardless of the situation he found himself in. You always listened to him, and believed in him, sometimes even when he couldn’t believe in himself. He didn’t think he’d ever be able to tell you how thankful he was for that, and how much of a difference it made just to have one person on his side.

Maybe someday though, he thought, maybe someday he’d be able to tell you how he feels.

To start with, I don't exactly have a playlist in the traditional sense, let alone a favorite one lol. When I'm obsessed with a new song, I'm looping that shit all week or even months. That song is the playlist :'))))) (like I have a playlist of all versions of the rebecca song like I'm talking rebecca 1, finale 1st act, rebecca reprise and ich hor dich singen, from 2006 vienna, 2012 stuttgart to 2013 korea LMAO)
